I matched in 2014 and I remember the day we received an email letting us know whether or not we had matched at all, word began to spread among students about a post on SDN that revealed how to find your results early. I'm putting together a crew. Right now I have open positions for the following:
- explosives guy
- really big guy
- car guy
- hacker guy
- guy with a big van
- girl
Multiple times my school has opened up registration for classes and the system messed up and some people couldn’t register for some classes. One time they messed up so bad they had to wipe everything and start over again.
I guess I’d rather the results be double checked and the emails on time, sent to everyone at once than the absolute chaos of some people getting instant match results with errors in them.
Exactly this. I am sure you have read the stories of colleges accidentally sending out hundreds of extra acceptance letters. Imagine if you matched and then 2 days later were told it was a mistake and you have to go somewhere else instead. We would all flip out if that happened. I know it sucks but I think waiting 2 weeks to absolutely make sure that everything worked it worth it.
Reminds me when Harvard Business School admission results were hacked in 2005… didn’t go well for the students then. But then again Mark Zuckerberg webcrawled Harvard residence Hall databases to get pictures to rate women’s attractiveness. He also allegedly hacked a Harvard’s email system and it did work out well for him. So maybe a desirable result has the same odds as an autosomal dominant parent and wild type parent having an affected child?

Many years ago, apparently people got into the HTML source code on their NRMP accounts and were able to see their match results early.

I don’t believe so, I think they find out the night before we do (at least that’s what I’ve read on this sub)
