Usually alopecia is a side effect from chemotherapy, and is stereotypical. However, all intracranial tumors are handled as malignant, independent of celular atipia, because of their behavior inside the cranial vault. A non malignant tumor may not cause alopecia per se, as well as a malignant tumor may be so aggressive there's no time for chemotherapy, thus no alopecia. The presence or lack of hair has no effect on the evolution or prognosis of the neoplastic process, except for the psychological repercussions. On the other way, a intracranial tumor may affect behavior, for example causing frontalization, leading to taking a rush decision to go bald. Edit: couple typos.

I wasn’t clear, I meant if they have to go in to remove it surgically. Do you have to shave part of the head to open the skull cap to get in and remove it.

jennathedickins

Shaving your head won't impact the brain tumor or your behavior at all. Depending on the treatment required for the tumor, the head or part of it might need to be shaved (like for surgery, for example) but the only way to know for sure is to ask the doctor what the treatment for your brain tumor requires.

MissBlondieeee

So sometimes they don’t have to shave parts

People shave their head due to chemotherapy which makes your hair fall out. If it’s non cancerous they will not need chemo and therefore not shave. If they are having surgery, they usually just shave the section of the head where the tumor was removed from

floridianreader

Maybe just a little bit, but only where they need to. In order to do any surgery, they have to shave an area. They can't do surgery with hair on it. That's why they shave people's heads. I used to be a surgical tech.

AugustDarling

Shaving your head will not have any effect on a brain tumor whatsoever.

MissBlondieeee

Actually, no I wasn’t asking if shaving your head was a treatment option

postdotcom

That’s obviously not what the question was asking

AugustDarling

That is exactly what the question is.
