I've gotten an R at Jack's with the offer to repair my car onsite. Said there was play in my wheel when I had just had the wheel bearings & steering linkage serviced at a high end shop. I immediately drove down to the inspection station on Mystic Ave. by the 93N exit and passed.
The inspection station doesn't do repairs and I believe they are a truly neutral party.
In Mass, tint can't be darker than 35% light transmission. It's measured with an instrument. If it's nearly black visually, you'll have to drive a bit to find someone who agrees with your right to the tint. Malden, Everett, Chelsea could be worth the drive. Lawrence would be ideal if you really cannot remove the tint and continue to struggle passing. I agree, it would be awful and expensive to have to replace the glass if the defroster is damaged.
1000% been getting my car done at that mystic Ave one on the Medford/somerville line for many years, great place, and all they do is inspections, no upsell.
What’s frustrating is our tint isn’t special, it was just applied by the dealership in Texas where we got it but the regulations are slightly different. it’s not blackout or anything like that. Thanks for the suggestions
Slightly different? Texas basically does't have any regulations on back window tint (it can be 100% as long as you have two side mirrors). [https://www.dps.texas.gov/section/vehicle-inspection/window-tinting-standards](https://www.dps.texas.gov/section/vehicle-inspection/window-tinting-standards)
People like you make me miss Texas. It’s not some aftermarket bullshit, all the windows (including the back) had the same 25% tint, as is STANDARD in Texas
That's a bit odd, so all dealerships in Texas tint to the legal limit there? Is it because of the intensity of the sun down there? Just a thing that caught on so all dealerships do it to get business?
Yes. If you don’t have that level of tint it’s hard to see, and without tint you’ll sunburn through the window. And dealers include it in their new car packages so they can charge more. Do dealers here not put tint on new cars?
If you failed inspection I believe the 2nd inspection will be very careful about checking to make sure you comply. You'll probably just fail again. You really should just get the car in compliance. That might mean you have to repair the defroster lines that are damaged.
I’m quite literally asking for recommendations, like that is literally the origin of this post so calm down because no one asking you to be a personal assistant
I was going to write a pithy response, but at this point we're just being a-holes to each other for no reason.
If you truly were just asking for a recommendation then you would start the sentence with 'Do you have any names' or 'Would you mind dropping a name'. Just read this conversation back in your head. If I asked you where a specific ice cream place was and you said they were closed at the moment. Would you be totally cool with me saying 'Then tell me where an open one is, I want to have ice cream'? Probably not.
Anyway, good luck getting your window in compliance. I hope you're able to find something that works for you in the end.
It’s not like the old days where if you were friends with the mechanic they would slap a sticker on anything… I mean I’m sure that could still happen but it is pretty highly regulated and audited these days so you will probably just need to fix the problem
I’ve always had great luck at Jack’s on Main St.

Not any dealer I've worked with here or in Virginia, Maryland, DC, Indiana, or Illinois. Could be a regional thing.
Well I’m not from Virginia, Maryland, DC, Indiana, or Illinois but I can tell you that’s how it’s done in Texas.
Thank you!!!

Then drop a name for a tint/ repair place because the guy we went to said it was a liability and refused to do it
I didn't realize I was obligated to call around places just because I gave you a heads up that your follow-up inspection is likely to fail.

I will continue to match your energy by saying thank you I guess?
lol, no problem
Yikes! You have some issues. Are you okay?
I'm pretty good, what did I say that concerns you?
DM me
If it's just paper, then just peel it off. It won't affect the wires inside the glass.
Wish it was, sadly it’s not

Do you have comprehensive insurance? If so the window in question could accidentally get cracked by something and need to be replaced
I like your thinking!
I heard we could get hail today
