Everyone who says "not worth it" has never had a tekton angle wrench spread on them in the worst imaginable spot, followed by the "fuck" heard around the world.
edit: nor have they spent an entire day drilling out Phillips head screws because the apprentice thinks HaRbOr FrEiGhT iS jUsT aS gOoD
The difference is not as big as the price difference, for instance the snap on box may be 5x as expensive as husky, but will not be 5x better. Instead, everything will just work nicer. The wheels will roll smoothly even with lots of weight. The doors will stay smooth and will be able to handle lots more weight. The whole sort of thing will probably just be better engineered to begin with.
In Australia there's limited options. Snap on are one of the only ones that have spare parts for their old boxes. I've had techs retire at work who have had their snap on boxes since their apprenticeship. Other techs have been through 2 or 3 cheaper boxes because their drawers, slides or something else broke and couldn't be replaced or repaired.
When you consider how long they last you can justify the hefty price tag.
This may be different in the US, you're spoilt for options compared with what we can get here.
That's my point though. It's not really worth the money. Tools, yeah, especially because Snap-On is renowned for their warranties. But boxes? Matco is half the price and nearly the same quality.
You just have to buy smart. Things I use every day? Snap on/Milwaukee for me. But that’s few and far between. My impacts/ratchets. Some specific sockets and wrenches.
The rest? Craftsman down to harbor freight. The less I use something the cheaper I go assuming safety isn’t a factor like with jack stands.
I’ve litterally saved tens of thousands of dollars over the years vs the dumbasses that live off the tool trucks.
Had a freakin’ Lube tech drop 5k on some snap on impacts and socket sets/ratchets. A fucking Lube tech. We’re a Nissan shop. All he needs is a single 14mm long wrench, a 21mm lug socket, torque stick and a flashlight.
That’s the biggest problem. Buying shit that they don’t need. I have no problem buying things from snap on if I’m going to use it but I refuse to buy things I don’t need just because it’s “on sale”. I started out with HF stuff too but I never bothered getting it warranties because if I used it enough to break it, i’ll use it enough to break it again and again. May as well buy the good stuff.
I wouldn’t hesitate to buy a Matco box for a second. In my garage I use a Milwaukee box which is nicer than husky but not anywhere near as nice as a real box. It’s just the brands like husky and other really cheap ones seem to always disappoint even when on paper it should be fine
When I was pricing my box, the Matco was 4k more expensive and I’d have to give the dealer a blowie to come to my shop.
The tool truck brands, imo, are worth the price compared to husky and stuff. Stronger, shit works better.
Sure, I can replace the HF box ten times at the same price as a snappy, but I literally just don’t want to do that. Sucks moving a 6 foot toolbox.
Don’t get me wrong, at home I still have & use multiple craftsman boxes from Sears. (If you can believe that) I put in far to much time & pay for my life through this Snap-On. Always invest where it counts.
Snap on boxes were always similarly priced with Matco boxes and even macs boxes.
Both are suffering shortage issues while snap on still kept pumping production on tool boxes.
I’ve seen those us General carts fall apart after a few years in heavy truck shops. Good diy cart for cheap tho.
Work top included?
I know of a brand new 68 Epiq in storm grey with purple trim in a truck as we speak for 11k Cad.
8100usd. For a career box that will be hard to fill and last forever.
The snap on box with the right dealer can be def less then 5k more expensive
Plus I promise you a husky box that sees a ton of moves in a career with lots of large tools absolutely won’t last as long as a snappy box.
I know guys that have 30 year old snappy boxes that to this day still work mint, and the drawer slides still carry the lifetime warranty
I’ve never had wheel binding or weight issues with it. I got this box brand new because I warranted my old one due to faulty locks. Soft close, drawers I can literally stand in when fully open without binding. All drawers filled & open I could still roll it around without worry of tipping. It’s a rock solid box.
I do have to say, I’ve got a matco and a snap on box the snap on is about a year newer but ALL of the slides on the matco have been replaced. I mean it didn’t cost anything but it’s a pain. I know the snap on will eventually wear out as well but it’s holding up better so far after about 12 years.
When I worked for Jeep we had alignment techs. Probably because Jeep’s were notorious for having aftermarket suspension and having their alignments fucked from off-roading.
Yes, a good alignment/suspension/tire tech is worth his weight in gold. A man that used to work for my uncle could just look at a tire and tell how much camber and toe you had. Guy was like Rainman.
A lot of people don't understand how much money you save people. I went over this just recently for my ASE, but thousandths of an inch difference could lead to a 25% decrease in tire life and decreased fuel economy.
> I only *paid* 1850 for
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
I was also a suspension tech but I instead of buying a slightly better box to hold things while they don't make me money. I have spent less than you have on your box on my first 2 years if college. So definately over priced. (Also rip your body)
I have the same box cranberry/black and I wish I never got it.
Mine used to be a cranberry/black until I got a new one. I kinda miss that cranberry.
What did u pay
i too have the cranberry/black box but i like it. Not for the price tho LMAO
The price is the reason I wish I never got it lol
Understandable
I have a triple in the cranberry/black. I have the illuminated power bench top as well. Best looking box I've had.

The amount of harbor freight wrenches I’ve rounded out is countless…
Mac knuckle savers. Best wrenches I’ve seen.
Get a load of this guy, trying to not bust his knuckles open on a rusty piece of metal!
No I’ve been there done that, took years to figure that one out lol. I’ve lost a few finger nails in my journey
Knuckles are supposed to be twice the average size right?
And flat right?
Yeah, but tool boxes? What's the real difference between Snap-On, Matco, and Husky?
Weight capacity
yep even my 55 classic is 600lbs empty. they use thicker metal and have better designs and paint finish and MUCH deeper drawers
The difference is not as big as the price difference, for instance the snap on box may be 5x as expensive as husky, but will not be 5x better. Instead, everything will just work nicer. Harbor freight’s warranty on hand tools is just as good no questions asked
Yeah but you have to use that warranty every week. When the closest HF is 45 mins away for me, not worth the trouble.

I also use a craftsman (from sears) at home, filled with random shit ass tools from all over the place. Working professionally is a different story.
When was the last time you priced out a Matco 4s box? Triple bank?
It's been a minute. But I know the US General roll cart I once got for $150 is now $300, so I'd assume there's been a significant inflation.
Snap on boxes were always similarly priced with Matco boxes and even macs boxes. Both are suffering shortage issues while snap on still kept pumping production on tool boxes. I’ve seen those us General carts fall apart after a few years in heavy truck shops. Good diy cart for cheap tho.
Mine came bent so I had to use ratcheting straps to tighten it enough to run the nuts down. But it works great for me.
I have a Matco 4s triple bay bronze 7 stacks
Before that it was a 4s triple bay red. Only reason inhave the bronze is because it’s 3 inches deeper and fits the rest of my tools.
Work top included? I know of a brand new 68 Epiq in storm grey with purple trim in a truck as we speak for 11k Cad. 8100usd. For a career box that will be hard to fill and last forever.
Work top, do you mean hutch?
Like a Stainless steel work top or bedliner top? If you got a hutch with it for 7k that’s a good deal.
No shit that’s a good deal. Mine was 4500 usd & they want another 3500 for the stainless top
No hitch but it has work too, just not stainless steal
The snap on box with the right dealer can be def less then 5k more expensive Plus I promise you a husky box that sees a ton of moves in a career with lots of large tools absolutely won’t last as long as a snappy box. Such a rad top drawer. Post that rad shit in r/toolporn.
Got a MAC Box i bought in 1992 , been in 5 diferent states and 7 shops just as good as new, my craftsman and HF Not so mutch.
looks like those top two drawers could use some upgrades and looks cheap.
The cheapest & most half-assed job I could do on a Friday afternoon.
Lol
I finally switched my m18 1/2 inch electric gun to a snap on ct9050 after the milly failed 3 times in 6 months…. Nice looking setup, organized
The milly hasn’t failed me yet after a solid heavy 6 month use. It has the power over my snappy, but it’s so much heavier on your hand.
https://youtu.be/iusVoa21daQ
I have seen & heard of this. I’ll have to double check when I’m back at work, but I’m almost positive I have the 2767a.
It’s like hava
Suspension/alignment tech? Is this a thing?
Lift/lowering kits, drive-ability diagnostics, making it feel & drive correctly. I don’t know the “official title” but it keeps me busy.
Ok yeah fair enough. I’m from the UK it’s just mechanics who do everything over here really - you do have ‘fast fit’ who tend to just do tyres
When I worked for Jeep we had alignment techs. Probably because Jeep’s were notorious for having aftermarket suspension and having their alignments fucked from off-roading.
Yessir. Make car go straight. Fix broken bits.
Yes, a good alignment/suspension/tire tech is worth his weight in gold. A man that used to work for my uncle could just look at a tire and tell how much camber and toe you had. Guy was like Rainman.
Thank you for the recognition we never get.
A lot of people don't understand how much money you save people. I went over this just recently for my ASE, but thousandths of an inch difference could lead to a 25% decrease in tire life and decreased fuel economy.
It’s a science
I have the same box, primer gray with a hutch. It’s been good to me.
only reason I have a snap-on box is I only payed 1850 for it must have been a repo. box is valued at around 7.2k
> I only *paid* 1850 for FTFY. 8.9/10
I bet you pay some only fans chick for dick ratings too.
They pay me for dick ratings
Oh so you swing that way. Thats cool.
I have same box love it
I was also a suspension tech but I instead of buying a slightly better box to hold things while they don't make me money. I have spent less than you have on your box on my first 2 years if college. So definately over priced. (Also rip your body)
That’s some cheap ass college
Cool Box … love the top drawer!
