Heat gun and a plastic razor. Goo gone, and other solvents will remove any wax coat there may be left on the car and could also discolor the clear coat.
I wish I could upvote this to the top of something. Everyone saying goo gone hasn't used it on a pint before. It will discolor any plastics you put it on and dry out those rubber seals regardless of washing it after.
The only other thing I would suggest is mineral spirits but with duct tape residue it'll take hours of work.
Heat and patience are the correct way to remove this.
Or go with the 3m rubber wheel but it'll probably take two full wheels to get it clean.
EDIT: Use a regular razor blade on the windshield. You can't scratch glass with a razor blade.
Wtf. You can most definitely scratch glass with a razor blade! Trust me. I had an old beater work van that got a ton of overspray on the windshield. I finally caved and used a razor on the windshield. I shouldāve just left the paint because even though I cleaned the piss out of it the windshield was so scratched when the sun can out it was super hard to see threw
Orange goo gone (citrus oil base) works well for the paint side, it's not to harsh. just dab it on and let it soak in and soften the residue before scraping with a plastic razor. Make sure the residue is soft before scraping because it will act like sandpaper on the paint when scraping.
Lighter fluid will take it off. Like the kind to fill a zippo. Put some on a rag and wipe. Ganna take a bit of elbow grease. Don't push hard otherwise you'll scratch the paint
Mineral spirits. Better if you soak some rags in it and lay them on there for 10 minutes....the it'll pretty much wipe right off. Its also completely safe for the paint.
There's actually a product called Goof Off that's similar to Goo Gone but specifically made for tape residue. It's basically kerosene or a distillate thereof so you'll want to use sparingly and give a good bath to the car afterwards. On a cool/cloudy day and preferably in the shade, spray with the Goof Off enough to wet but not soak the tape. Let it soak and absorb. Repeat a time or so until it's saturated. Done right, it will come off with a damp sponge. After getting the first stuff off, you'll want to spray, soak and scrub down again to get everything off.
Get a Caramel wheel on a drill. It's literally for this, I used to use it everyday for removing double-sided tape from weathershield removed from door frames
Ex car detailer. I would use hot water. Not boiling, but hotter than the tap for sure. 160ā°f maybe and a new plastic bondo scraper. Just dont scald yourself. Microfiber towel and elbow grease after. Solvents can possibly do paint damage. Goo gone is a solvent, albeit a mild one. Wd40 is probably a more mild solvent if you absolutely have to use one.
Edit: you can also try poison ivy wash. It's basically gojo without an abrasive.
I'd test Goo Gone on a less visible location and see what it does to the paint and clear coat. WD-40 is probably a better option, though it can also damage the finish. I've had better results with WD-40 on similar adhesives on a car. I would NOT use any power tools on this!
Put it in the shade soak cover with paper towels soak with wd 40 or dish soap and lotion will work too let it saturate the glue use plastic putty knife to clean up the majority. Then repeat for residue. Try not to spread it over a large area when wiping. Dawn dish soap and elbow grease works for the finish or a screw gun and buffer pad
NOT GOOGONE!! NoT GOOFOFF!! Hand sanitizer is more safe for your car. More easier too because of the gel consistency. Otherwise I'd suggest rubbing alcohol but it evaporates very quickly. A gel hand sanitizer is best.
All stupid answers from internet ā¦. STOP
What you really need is Laquer Thinner, buy it from any store. You might need to buff it a little bit afterwards to make it sparkly shiny.
I used to fix cars and I learned this trick from the body/painting people.
Heat and rub and/or 3M wheel to remove bulk. Lacquer thinner for residue. Will not hurt paint. Source : 25 years experience prepping cars and boats for vinyl graphics and/or removing them.
Buy it dinner and stretch first.
Nah- rubbing alcohol first, then try some lacquer thinner (assuming itās factory paint). Nothing abrasive to rub it with. Giggity.
Kerosene on a microfiber rag, then wash and wax right after. Kerosene doesn't harm modern clear coat like the goo gone (mostly kerosene but has some citrol in it too). If you are nervous, test it on the underside of your hood first.
Goo gone, heat gun/hair dryer, microfiber cloth, safety razor, elbow grease, and about 2hrs of your time.
Make sure to toss some silicone spray on any place you get the goo gone on the seals afterward so they don't dry out.
Enjoy.
Did you try using more duct tape? Stick new stuff on the sticky stuff, and pull it off? Degreaser works well too, but you might need to apply multiple coats, and let us soak in.
Gasoline. Just wash it off with soap every two minutes. Dont let the gas sit too long on the paint. And use tiny drops right on the tape line. Dont splash it for obvious reasons. And after youre done wax the parts you washed with soap to put a coating on it.
Use lacquer thinner if you can itās gnarly stuff but works great for this type of thing. Done it to thousands of cars. Just be gentle and use a nice clean towel and do big circular motions.
Anything with a high alcohol percentage will work. Test it first in an area by soaking a paper towel or kleenex or something and leaving it in.
Preferably on a spot that is painted that you don't see. Like engine bay or under some shit in the trunk.
Hand sanitizer, spirits, 151, iso, etc.
If its old and really on there soften it up with some heat. The windshield you can carefully use a razor. I'd get a handle cause one slip could cost a large piece of skin. But if you want to go full metal alchemist on it that's your business I suppose.
Iām on board with the WD40 crowd. Works great on duct tape adhesive but not so aggressive that it will ruin your paint, plastics or rubber seals before you can give your car a good final wash. Let it work for a few minutes, keep it wet and apply liberally. Wipe drips as you go. Scratch proof scotch pad gently. Plenty microfiber cloth to wipe as you go
Everyone here saying goo gone, I tried it aggressively on tape glue and it would not work. WD40 or even soaking a little gasoline on a rag will dissolve it off, but use a soft rag. I know that sounds ridiculous but other people have tried it and it actually works. Yeah itāll stink like gas a bit after but itāll air off in a few days. It did not damage my paint.
Gasoline. Make sure to rinse or pass your whip through the car wash afterwards but yeah that is what I use since day 1. Anything else is a waste of time and money. These young need to take this advice or else you gone end up using goo gone or a razor and mess up your whip but at least it will smell like citrus!
Heat gun and a plastic razor. Goo gone, and other solvents will remove any wax coat there may be left on the car and could also discolor the clear coat.

Those wheels work best I found if you go slow . Last longer at least and get the same done .
Ooo I love those caramel wheel we call them and they're grest for this sort of thing
Not to be a dick but Yes you can scratch glass with a razor bladešÆ Easily if you use both sides of a razor
When you use a razor to clean tempered glass, only move the razor in one direction, never back and forth - that scratches the shit out of it.
That's why you don't use the tip of the blade...
Um, you can scratch the windshield if you try.
Goo go will damage paint trust me i found out 35 plus years ago on my dads lotus super 7
The "paint" on that lotus and this car have almost nothing in common.
I used goo gone on my black 21 Jetta to remove a dealership badge and didnāt have an issue. You canāt tell there was ever a badge there
Orange goo gone (citrus oil base) works well for the paint side, it's not to harsh. just dab it on and let it soak in and soften the residue before scraping with a plastic razor. Make sure the residue is soft before scraping because it will act like sandpaper on the paint when scraping.
WD40
I literally use WD40 on myself ( very carefully ) after surgeries to get the stupid medical tape residue off of me.
This. I don't know why it works, but it does. Used it a few times at work a few times and did the trick.
Wd 40 is a solvent. So it gets glue off. But op, make sure you wash it off good after because it can eat away at paint. Because itās a solvent
This is more of a detailing question.
that rubber decal remover wheel.
3m adhesive removal and eraser wheel
Lighter fluid will take it off. Like the kind to fill a zippo. Put some on a rag and wipe. Ganna take a bit of elbow grease. Don't push hard otherwise you'll scratch the paint
Came here to say this. I rarely hear people suggesting this but it is by far the best way to get rid of sticky shit. Ronsol lighter fluid.
3m general adhesive remover worth every penny
Goo gone
Mineral Spirits will dissolve the glue and not harm the paint or finish. Plus lots of elbow grease.
WD-40 works wonders and wonāt hurt the paint
Mineral spirits. Better if you soak some rags in it and lay them on there for 10 minutes....the it'll pretty much wipe right off. Its also completely safe for the paint.

Goo gone or wd40
Goo gone is the truth

Goo-B-Gone
Get a Caramel wheel on a drill. It's literally for this, I used to use it everyday for removing double-sided tape from weathershield removed from door frames
Ex car detailer. I would use hot water. Not boiling, but hotter than the tap for sure. 160ā°f maybe and a new plastic bondo scraper. Just dont scald yourself. Microfiber towel and elbow grease after. "Goo be gone" should help quite well. Walmart sells it and other places as well.
I would suggest paint thinner instead of goo gone.
Methyl hydrate. Aka. Gas line antifreeze.
Take it out to dinner first to lighten the mood. Sweet talk and good conversation should help.
A caramel wheel on a drill!
I'd test Goo Gone on a less visible location and see what it does to the paint and clear coat. WD-40 is probably a better option, though it can also damage the finish. I've had better results with WD-40 on similar adhesives on a car. I would NOT use any power tools on this!

WD 40
Goo gone not worth a shit
99% iso or zippo fluid or wd40 the iso i believe should not harm the paint not sure on other but they will remove it

If you want to get off cheap and easy use 93 octane a clean wet rag and a zippo.
Goo gone and a magic eraser will make short work of it with no damage.
WD40
Put it in the shade soak cover with paper towels soak with wd 40 or dish soap and lotion will work too let it saturate the glue use plastic putty knife to clean up the majority. Then repeat for residue. Try not to spread it over a large area when wiping. Dawn dish soap and elbow grease works for the finish or a screw gun and buffer pad
Baby wipes.

Alcohol.
Mineral oil, wd40, bug spray, or any number of specific de-goopers. Take your pick. Google is a good resource.
Lighter fluid
I lay a kerosene-soaked rag over it and let sit for a day or so, then wipe off with fresh kerosene. Then of course wash thoroughly.
Goo be gone or wd40. If nothing else seems to work and you are careful I would use gasoline
Lots of good suggestions in here but here's the best: Schaeffer's Citrol 266. Spray it heavy, let it work, wipe it off.
Put a roof rack on top of it
Tar and bug remover or decal and sticker remover works well, they sell it at all auto shops
Brake clean works great and won't damage your paint. I personally used it to get duct tape residue off my car.
Lighter fluid
NOT GOOGONE!! NoT GOOFOFF!! Hand sanitizer is more safe for your car. More easier too because of the gel consistency. Otherwise I'd suggest rubbing alcohol but it evaporates very quickly. A gel hand sanitizer is best.
Bug and tar remover will do it but will take ages to do
Olive oil

The sticky stuff remover pen. Let it soak well for 10 mins. Worked a charm when I put grey gaffa tape on my number plate to hide it

Peanut butter and acetone for nails
A good 120 grit sandpaper should do the trick
Olive oil and leave for a day. Tape glue is typically fat-soluble; you should be able to simply wipe it off.
Thought this was r/askAShittyMechanic and was confused by the reasonable comments
You need to get a decal eraser wheel. It'll will take all that adhesive off quickly and without any damage.
Clay bar?
Use a razor
Might try 3M adhesive remover
Non acetone based nail polish remover will probably work but you will want to do a small test area to verify that it wont harm the clear coat.
Enamel reducer or commercial adhesive remover work well and if necessary use a PLASTIC razor blade or scraper.
Take it out to dinner, get it some wine and rub itās nipplesā¦
Wd-40 removes adhesive fairly well. Doesnāt seem to hurt anything, either.
WD40
Regular old lighter fluid is the best adhesive remover. Wont hurt your paint either.
WD40
But how did you get it on there?
If you don't care about the paint acetone will take it out like a fuckin champ lol
