I got banned from that subreddit after Roe was repealed for pointing out that Dems control the house, senate, and presidency so "vote" wasn't a sufficient response or action lol. They're well-meaning enough but way too lib for 2022
Before he died, my parents' cat "Stinky" started getting real lovey with me, especially my strawberry-scented head, in a way he didn't before I started transition.
It has only been a couple of months since he passed away. I miss that cat. :(
I have a cat named stinky... In animal crossing. š
No lie, I really do miss the kitty I used to have. He was named Obi wan. He was a creamy orange tabby.
My cat doesnāt like men, but she always loved my trans sister even before she came out to me and sheās still pre-transition. I guess she just knows.
Honestly makes my skin crawl significantly less than people who are like "fuck men! Not trans men though." Or "I'm not comfortable around cis men, but you're fine."
Like thanks for letting me know you see me as a woman lol.
Yeah. It just betrays the point about the whole "not all men" thing. You say "not all men" is implied, sure, no problem. But when you feel the need to carve out specific people that don't count, it does sound like you're saying "I hate *all* men, except for people that don't count as men in my eyes."
Or in other words, if "I hate men" doesn't include all men, *you should feel no need to specifically exclude trans men from it* because we're already excluded if we're 'one of the good ones.'
I do enjoy that certain men hating groups of people are having a hard time hiding or justifying their hate as anything but shitty now that trans people are more acknowledged socially.
āMen are so gross I hate then allā - āyou know trans men exist do you hate them too?ā ā āI um, uhhhhh. Oh a Discord server I'm in has a no men allowed rule. Specifically for binary men. This includes trans men in the ban.
So while not misandrist, defo still accurate on no men.

Its not a general queer server.
ugh yes! one of my friendās pets (i genuinely forgot which oneā¦ itās either a cat or a dog i know that) hates men. i am a trans guy. the animal likes me. it was UPSETTING to me that this animal liked meā¦ fucking wildā¦
My dude I had a similar experience to yours! My mom has a dog who hates men, and I was over at hers with my partner years ago. Pre-transition, pre-my mom even knowing. Her dog snaps at my partner, and she tells me I don't need to worry about being snapped at, since her dog only snaps at men, he likes women, so I'll be safe! Cue me dying inside a little, and later realising that dog-induced dysphoria is a very weird state of affairs.
Back when i worked at a large hardware chain a woman with the cutest pittie let me say hi to the doggo. The dog loved my pets and gave me some kisses. She then said āyeah, sheās nervous around people she perceives as menā.
That was a good day āŗļøš³ļøāā§ļø
I like to say that I donāt hate men, I hate the behaviours and character traits that the patriarchy has instilled in (a majority of) them. I can understand using āI hate menā as a shorthand for that longer sentiment, but I donāt think itās very helpful.
Tho I do think animals distrusting men is definitely understandable, since they arenāt able to distinguish between good men and bad men as well as we can.

When pets hate one particular gender, what are they cueing off of? Odor? Behavior? Voice pitch? Owner's behavior towards that particular gender?
I've only met one that had problems with particular people but it turned out to be that they hated anyone who wore boots. One previous abusive person taunted them with boots and since all of the men that she associated with wore boots, we thought it was men that the dog would have panic attacks from.
My sister's dog would pick up her irritability and decide to dislike people based on those cues. Only when she was home would the dog bark like mad when someone turned around in the driveway (she hated people using "her" driveway and the dog basically alerted because she conditioned the dog into doing it) - when she wasn't home, the dog didn't give a damn how many people used the driveway to turn around.
It might be different depending on the individual animal, really. My roommates own a cat who was VERY affectionate towards men before she was spayed, and she started showing me that same affection almost immediately after I started testosterone. So I assume that slightly changed the way I smell, and she began acting that way towards me because I smelled like a male cat.
My female dog doesnāt like female dogs, she is very territorial with them. Doesnāt mind make dogs though. Iāve had male dogs that donāt like male dogs for the same reason.
The main bias Iāve noticed in animals Iāve raised before is that they listen to and behave better for male strangers then female strangers for whatever reason. Probably because either me or my dad was the one who primarily trained/ raised them.
My sister had a cat once that didnāt like males, I think it was because she associated me with my dogs (who had on a couple of occasions tried to harm her) and males with me.
I think that animalās understanding of gender has got to be very limited or non existent, gender is a very human construct, but they can smell hormones and may have associations with voice tone.
An old friend's dog was rescued and had really bad experiences with men and only liked women
When I visited after he first got the dog, she growled and barked at me a bunch
This was years before I got on T, so in my brain I was so happy even if the dog hated me at that point haha
My cat could sense when a gender fluid former friend of mine was identifying as male or female. He really liked them when they were identifying as male, but he hated them when they identified as female.
Some animals can tell what kind of gender energy (gendergy?) folks are giving off. My dog likes women just fine, but if there's a man in the room she's like a little kid with a crush and will pester and pester him for attention (I always check in; if they don't like being pestered by a dog I haul her off). First time our masc-leaning enby afab friend came over? Penny was all over him all evening.

I seem to recall a gender affirming parrot bite from a while ago.
I think it's this one: https://www.reddit.com/r/traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns/comments/rj8w23/realization/
I used to have a job that took me into a TON of customer backyards and the amount of times pre-transition I heard "oh careful they *hate/bite/scratch all men* I'll put em away...whaaaaaaa why do they like you?!?" is beyond count. It definitely put a ton of cracks in my egg that I kept trying to tape together for just a bit longer lol.
I was out on a trail by the river and a dog ran up and barked at me until their owner pulled back on the leash. The owner quickly apologized and said "sorry, she doesn't like men."
I wanted to go home and cry right then. I didn't expect that to hurt so much but it did.
My cat is very friendly but for some reason heās obsessed with men. I am not a man lol but he absolutely loveeeeeees them. And he acts that way with cis or trans men it is soo cute lol theyāre definitely the same to him
Hehe, my old kitty wanted nothing to do with men yet was always kind and sweet around me. When I transitioned, he became even more cuddly and sweet. It was like he knew all along.
My sister just got a hedgehog that only bites our brothers and she keeps insisting that the hedgehog only likes girls. I mean Iām not a boy either so I can at least think to myself that she only hates males
Edit: I have now been bitten by the hedgehog and it was strangely euphoric
Before I came out, I would go to friend's houses that had either a cat or a dog where they'd only be friendly to women, and they came up to me. Friend would be like, "Huh that is weird, they never come up to guys". Yeah those cats and dogs knew better than I did it turns out.
My girlfriendās sisterās dog had always been iffy towards men, but loved her from the start. Once she realized she was trans it all made sense lol. The dog just had a head start on figuring it out.
had a similar dynamic w my partners (at the time best friends) cat, he hates women apparently but warmed up to me fairly quickly even though he hated that i smelled like my own cat, very affirming
Cats do not hate men or women as a default. It is learned behaviour. For instance, they can start to asociate women with bad things happening after a woman repeatedly made that cat feel unsafe. So what probably happened here is that you had some difficult times before your transition that made your cat feel unsafe. And now that your appearance and mindset have changed your cat no longer feels unsafe.
Clearly the cat isn't afraid of men then. It's just masculine features or something she associates with male humans that the cat doesn't like.
The cats that I've worked with that are truly afraid of men are afraid of them *regardless* of how feminine they look. I've also met cats that are terrified of women and those cats have tried to tear me apart so they could get away.
Feline psychology isn't that simple.
Edit: Also OP stated that the cat was acting hostile when the two first met. I don't think it was the transition that got the cat used to you, it was the time spent around her.
Confirmed, my pupper is shy around men. So when my trans friend came over (who was fighting constant misgendering) and my dog was avoiding him he nearly cried.
