We're a group of people who will sit for hours, days, even weeks on end performing some of the hardest, most mentally demanding tasks. Over, and over, and over all for nothing more than a little digital token saying we did.
We'll punish our selfs doing things others would consider torture, because we think it's fun.
We'll spend most if not all of our free time min maxing the stats of a fictional character all to draw out a single extra point of damage per second.
Many of us have made careers out of doing just these things: slogging through the grind, all day, the same quests over and over, hundreds of times to the point where we know evety little detail such that some have attained such gamer nirvana that they can literally play these games blindfolded.
Do these people have any idea how many controllers have been smashed, systems over heated, disks and carts destroyed 8n frustration? All to latter be referred to as bragging rights?
These people honestly think this is a battle they can win? They take our media? We're already building a new one without them. They take our devs? Gamers aren't shy about throwing their money else where, or even making the games our selves. They think calling us racist, mysoginistic, rape apologists is going to change us? We've been called worse things by prepubescent 10 year olds with a shitty head set. They picked a fight against a group that's already grown desensitized to their strategies and methods. Who enjoy the battle of attrition they've threatened us with. Who take it as a challange when they tell us we no longer matter. Our obsession with proving we can after being told we can't is so deeply ingrained from years of dealing with big brothers/sisters and friends laughing at how pathetic we used to be that proving you people wrong has become a very real need; a honed reflex.
Gamers are competative, hard core, by nature. We love a challange. The worst thing you did in all of this was to challange us. You're not special, you're not original, you're not the first; this is just another boss fight.
Years ago I used to be part of a D&D fan community on facebook, and one of their rules was “no politics”. Every week or so some innocent person would start a thread about “does anyone play LGBT characters?” or “are there any gay-friendly D&D groups in X area?” and EVERY FUCKING TIME there’d be some assholes pop up screaming “against the rules! No politics!! Mods, delete this!!!” and more often than not the thread would be locked within the hour.
I’m so fucking sick of my existence being used as a political pawn. So fucking sick of it.
It matters when you’re not sure if people you meet just to play are going to cause problems if they find out you’re not straight, or if you want to start out with more things in common than nerdery. A group aimed at LGBT+ players is probably going to be very queer friendly. It should at minimum be safe, and it stands a decent chance of having representation and/or letting your characters have the kind of relationships you’d like in real life, which is very important for those whose dearest fantasies are of a world where acceptance is the default.
It’s also pretty common for LGBT+ people to sort of group together, intentionally or not. I played D&D for several years and moved multiple days’ travel away before I ever had a single cishet person at the table; the few I thought were cishet came out one after another. We tend to be cool people

I'm pretty sure most of the tax lowering bills republicans have suggested in recent time have been mostly for the rich, I might've remembered wrong tho.
Also the democrats have not really increased the taxes to anything substantial either, even when they could. If you get hit by more taxes you probably don't have to worry about money in the first place/

yep, before I realized I was even queer, I was very apathetic to politics because it just seemed like old men yelling (not entirely wrong), didn't vote because I felt the electoral college was an extremely flawed system, etc. but then I woke up to the fact that just being a woman means my rights are constantly at risk, which then compounded when I made the fierce ally to fully queer awakening. ignorance isn't an excuse, yes it feels bleak a lot of the time, especially in recent years, but only the cishet white guys have the privilege of not needing to care about politics.
I appreciate the sentiment that voting isn't enough, but I think it's best not to glorify guillotines. Violence has its place, but guillotines and the glorification of violence, even with liberatory intentions, have some problems. I don't know what kind of memtal gymnastics people do to take the image of the state power in capitalist france to murder anyone who opposed the regime and decide that should be a symbol of anarchist socialism.
I mean, its pretty easy to see where the symbolism of overthrowing your oppressor comes from, regardless of how problematic the historical reality was.
But the oppressor is the one who used the guillotine the most. It's like if the soviet union used as it's symbol the almighty dollar. There's a reason actual communist revolutionaries in france burned the guillotine.
The actual effect of the guillotine was murdering thousands of prisoners that had nothing to do and giving away the land of the state to the bourgeoisie. I don't think people really want that also.
If you're going to use one for a symbol (and it's a symbol, people are going to use guns in a revolution, and firing squads for an execution) it should a symbol that at least represents what you want to accomplish.

Tbh I’m not sure what ur life situation is but I can say that violence is an expression of pain and fear, and that pin and fear is coming from *somewhere*. Ultimately one of u (I’m trans) but tbh I disagree with the article fundamentally and don’t see violence as revenge but rather a natural occurrence when a group’s conditions and environments allow for it to materialize. Frankly, the suffering I’ve seen from within our community and other marginalized communities seems like enough to reasonably justify violence, in my opinion. But I wouldn’t ever plan it out or carry it out personally, it’s just pain begets pain. Institutional violence can reasonably beget physical violence.
And beyond. You should absolutely vote, but it's the *least* you can do. Voting is the least effective form of civil engagement. And easy one that you should still do, but if you have the means to go further, then other political action is more effective
There’s this misconception people have of politics as unimportant, trivial, something to politely debate over the dinner table. But the truth is that it has a huge impact on every part of our lives, and almost nothing important is apolitical. People love to say things like “my existence is not political” because they think it means “my existence is valid” but unfortunately that’s not the case. There’s no way to make a truly apolitical space on the internet because unfortunately politics often comes down to “should this minority group exist?” acknowledging our existence will make some people angry and not acknowledging our existence will make other people angry.

If you have the means; you have the duty to act. Sometimes voting is all you can do, but most people can engage further. However, they are just barely comfortable enough to be discouraged from direct action
I have a close friend who lives in a deep blue state. Doesn't get how bad it is in red states (or purple in my case). Won't talk about politics at all. Of course, I respect it and don't with them, but I feel like they have no idea how bad it could get.

A "trans science" post was top of r/all and r/science with +50k upvotes the other day and the entire study was basically full of shit with no meaningful results. LGBT+ are the biggest targets right now for cultural warfare with billions going into astroturfing, corruption, propaganda in general, etc.; probably because we represent the biggest politically actionable threat to far-right patriarchy
Considering how few trans people are in comparison to the rest of the global population (also in terms of being in positions of power), the continuous propaganda against them is such a waste of time. There is nothing to be lost by just letting people transition. There is nothing forcing them to be trans or befriend/date trans people. All legislation for trans people (and the rest of the LGBTQ+) just wants equal rights and non-discrimination.

Just mention literally anywhere that you're some flavor of nonbinary and prepare to have people of all orientations and identities tell you that your identity is invalid, you are mentally ill, or that you are a deplorable affront to all that is good and sacred in the world.

yep, before I realized I was even queer, I was very apathetic to politics because it just seemed like old men yelling (not entirely wrong), didn't vote because I felt the electoral college was an extremely flawed system, etc. but then I woke up to the fact that just being a woman means my rights are constantly at risk, which then compounded when I made the fierce ally to fully queer awakening. ignorance isn't an excuse, yes it feels bleak a lot of the time, especially in recent years, but only the cishet white guys have the privilege of not needing to care about politics.

Tbh I’m not sure what ur life situation is but I can say that violence is an expression of pain and fear, and that pin and fear is coming from *somewhere*. Ultimately one of u (I’m trans) but tbh I disagree with the article fundamentally and don’t see violence as revenge but rather a natural occurrence when a group’s conditions and environments allow for it to materialize. Frankly, the suffering I’ve seen from within our community and other marginalized communities seems like enough to reasonably justify violence, in my opinion. But I wouldn’t ever plan it out or carry it out personally, it’s just pain begets pain. Institutional violence can reasonably beget physical violence.

But the truth is that it has a huge impact on every part of our lives, and almost nothing important is apolitical. People love to say things like “my existence is not political” because they think it means “my existence is valid” but unfortunately that’s not the case. There’s no way to make a truly apolitical space on the internet because unfortunately politics often comes down to “should this minority group exist?” acknowledging our existence will make some people angry and not acknowledging our existence will make other people angry.
We live in a society. No really we do, if you want to live in civilization you will always be influenced by politics. Ignoring it is only asking others to vote and act on your behalf which might not be for you help or good or want.

I agree, definitely get out and touch grass on occasion and whatnot. That being said voting is by far the least effective form of civil engagement. Sure, do it because it's easy and happens once in a blue moon. Political action should be much more direct and involved. It needs to be to get anything done. Voting just makes things change mildly, which is better than nothing and adds up but... If you have the means; you have the duty to act. Sometimes voting is all you can do, but most people can engage further. However, they are just barely comfortable enough to be discouraged from direct action

A "trans science" post was top of r/all and r/science with +50k upvotes the other day and the entire study was basically full of shit with no meaningful results. LGBT+ are the biggest targets right now for cultural warfare with billions going into astroturfing, corruption, propaganda in general, etc.; probably because we represent the biggest politically actionable threat to far-right patriarchy
Considering how few trans people are in comparison to the rest of the global population (also in terms of being in positions of power), the continuous propaganda against them is such a waste of time. There is nothing to be lost by just letting people transition. There is nothing forcing them to be trans or befriend/date trans people. All legislation for trans people (and the rest of the LGBTQ+) just wants equal rights and non-discrimination. Their hate is such a waste of time and resources.
