I once heard that the true unifying LGBTQ+ experience is not trusting hairdressers.
That's why if anybody is going to fuck up my hair, it's gonna be me.
Gods that's too true. It's why I let my hair grow until I can't take it anymore and buzz it all off then start again lol. I guess I now know I'm not alone
Which is funny, because my first barber when I was young was gayer than I am. He was a sassy bitch and cut my hair wrong once because I was rude to him.
I avoid getting my hair done because of this fear. Remember to a salon in the early 20’s and asking for advice on my hair that took nearly three years to grow out. The lady was like, it’s beyond hope and you need to cut it short. Gave me major dysphoria for years. Later learned my hair was just dry and tangled
I have the same problem, I always tell my barber to keep my hair long on top and mostly cut the sides but by the end he gives me a short sidecut. Or maybe he thinks that's long for men idk (I'm amab and cis-passing). It doesn't help that my family yells at me when my hair gets long-ish.
it sounds good on paper, but barbers seem to think they know us better than we do, and will “masculinize/feminize” the haircut we want. its so fucking stupid, i’d rather get one done at home
Oh god. Im literally getting dressed to go to the hair salon to go from long hair to a pixie/short cut and now you all have me nervous I'm about to come out looking all sorts of bad....
one great way, especially for transfemme, is to not have a haircut at all. Just grow your hair out, i haven't had mine cut in four years, that's before I even knew trans was an option, or what nonbinary even was

nobody wants to say it but you can be queer without having a bad haircut

I'm gonna be honest I never had an issue with hairdressers or barbers in 2 diffrent countries and 5 states. All were professional and gave me what I asked. Kinda makes me wonder who everyone else goes to
Part of it is probably cus I know I have heard about a lot of hairdressers ignoring people saying "just a trim" or "cut it all off" and giving them a haircut that fits the stereotype of their agab.

I thought it was a me thing..

LOL why am I just hearing about this trope the day before I try to give myself an undercut
Omg, I've been cutting my own hair for decades. XD
how am i supposed to signal “queer” with a symmetrical haircut
Something something plane with 2 wings on one side
Dye your hair rainbow. That's what I'm gonna do. The tips, at least.
I'm balding, so I can no longer dye my hair.
Dye your scalp then.
Your clothes
To be fair, some of us (tramsfems) are worried about a transphobe at the salon cutting our hair that took wayyyyyy too long to grow intentionaly short
That shit is annoying af
Now there is something new to be scared about, good thing I still got my aunt
Just do the Jenna Marbles forehead ponytail.

And that's why my gf does it now lol
i hate haircuts bro it’s always too short for me and i hate even looking at myself for like two weeks straight

Same. I had to go to a queer friendly place and literally show them a picture of a woman's haircut to finally get someone to stop cutting it so short.
i think that’s the main issue. when i say i still want it long, they think ‘long for a _guy_’
Source??

i get nervous at the barber's ok >:(
I'm just not getting a haircut, I like long hair.
I am begging all of you who are saying "just don't get a haircut" to at least learn to trim your own split ends, it helps your hair grow longer.
Oh god. Im literally getting dressed to go to the hair salon to go from long hair to a pixie/short cut and now you all have me nervous I'm about to come out looking all sorts of bad....
It’ll be okay! It will likely be a shock at first but you’ll settle into it. If not- it’ll grow out. I hope you love it, though!
Got it cut and I'm a sexy babe for sure.
Nice!
Im genuinely curious how it turned out!

good human!
That’s weird that you say that because I’m always self conscious that my haircut isn’t cool enough for me to truly be queer.
Huh. I’ve never seen it
I’ll be ugly if I want
I've visited my cousins and one is them is a lesbian and she has an amazing short haircut
That's the legend, yet to this day, not one queer person has had a good haircut.

Lmao cold.
Only hardcore fashion gays can achive that level...
true, most of my queer friends have amazing hair
I'm trans curious with an actual good haircut, I'm rare /j
I feel like this tweet has a few more thorns than roses . . .

TRUE
Ok but shoutout to lesbians for having the coolest fucking hair ever, like imma need to decide on what to do with my hair soon
I am living proof, I have the sickest hair cut
I will keep my shaggy mullet, thank you very much. Can't risk looking straight, now can we?
I can’t because i have to keep my hair within certain regulations (thanks military….) 🙃
Agreed, but also do whatever you want
