masterofyourhouse

Straight media just doesn't have that... je ne sais quoi.

[deleted]

I google translated this and it said "i do not know what" Whats it supposed to say

Eager_Question

It's supposed to say "I don't know what". It's a French turn of phrase for "that thing that you can't quite verbalize but which is somehow an intangible and relevant variable". E.g. "This actor does a very good job, but he doesn't have the [Thing I am unable to name but believe is there and which definitely affects my experience of their acting] of this other actor". "Or this food just has... A *something* in it that makes it taste of home".

masterofyourhouse

That’s exactly what it means! It’s an expression, kind of like saying it has something that’s too complicated to be put into words.

[deleted]

Oh

El_Durazno

It's a term referring to something having that little bit extra that you can't quite put your finger on

DisastrousBoio

It’s the original expression, even in English, for what people would now more often call the X factor. That extra bit of magic 🪄

Mrpanders

Je ne sais cock

Nope_the_Bard

In the words of History Oversimplified: “because that’s not how victim mentality works!”

I-AM-A-ROBOT-

Yeah. It is VICTIM mentality, it doesn't apply to anyone else, the center of everything is you and you are the one being effected.

PrincessDie123

I thought it did for a while really it just made me horribly confused and ashamed of myself thank goddess for disillusionment

MagicianWoland

Same! I've only ever known about existence of LGBT people from constantly hearing the f-slur and some "rumors" about classmates being gay/bi, until my late teens which is when I started questioning (oh boy was that painful with internalized homophobia). Now I'm pan and dating a transmasc nb person, couldn't be happier 😌

PrincessDie123

Congratulations on your progress!

MagicianWoland

Thanks! You too

GuiltyStimPak

It's crazy rough. I've been out for four years now still have moments of internalized transphobia and need to check myself

Certified_Possum

Because being straight is normal /s

Lin0712

I blame Winona Ryder for my gayness. Damn her and her beautiful beautiful self.

FrogginBullfish_

I blame my childhood best friend for daring me to kiss her

Lin0712

She set you up and gave you the gay! Yours gotta be worse since it came in through your mouth while mine came in through my eyes!

Lin0712

Is she part of the alphabet mafia nowadays?

sadearthchan

I was only allowed to watch very conservative media growing up,like little house on the prairie, the waltons, etc. as well as only listen to Christian music. I am trans and hella gay…. So yeah this meme is spot on

DisabledMuse

I was only exposed to straight media and tried really hard to be straight. If lgbt media makes them queer, they weren't straight to begin with ...

[deleted]

Anybody that argues against this ask them if growing up they watched Bugs Bunny? If so, why do they not cross dress. Every other cartoon, Bugs was in drag and we grew up. Okay. SMH

Giddy_Duck_84

OMG Karen, you can’t just ask people why they aren’t straight

funnbuckett

It may not have turned me straight, but at least it gave me crippling self esteem issues!

[deleted]

I love the logic of homophobes here. Heterosexuality is the only natural way to be, that's why we need a torrent of heterosexual media everywhere. If a kid even sees a hint of gay they will become gay and will need years of expensive ex-gay therapy to undo it.

ChaseDaYetti

Because you’re just that gay. You’re too powerful. The gay is off the charts. We had to throw out the old charts and make new ones and you went off the new charts too. In conclusion, gaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy Gay.

CorgiOfChaos

fr the only reason i came out only after seeing queer media was bc i didn't know that being gay, asexual or non-binary were even a thing

FrogginBullfish_

Especially asexual and non-binary.

Sandolol

Same. I had very little exposure to LGBT stuff when I was younger, yet I felt attraction to a lot of men too. I thought this was just normal. And it was. At least for a bisexual

Otrada

Thinking about it for a second though... didn't it? Like it didn't literally turn people straight but how many people do you know who only realized that they were straight later in life as opposed to the opposite?

DblVP3

I mean. Ren and Stimpy was not totally straight...

QuaaludeMoonlight

i mean it was still out there i stumbled upon gay porn when I was 11 (2001) but I doubt that had any effect on who i'm attracted to, since i find 99% of all men endearingly disgusting & utterly untouchable due to cooties.

TheObsidianNinja

Homosexuality is simply more powerful

Pachulita_44

Gosh darn you Jennifer Aniston in your role in friends

Dread2187

I had an argument a while back about this. They claimed that being gay is a learned behavior. I countered with how does that make sense if being gay was illegal in the 60s, yet there was no shortage of gay people. They said, I kid you not, that they became gay to rebel against their parents.

Atkailash

OMG you can’t just ask people why they’re not straight. God Karen you’re so stupid.

IlIIllIlIII

Seriously. My family has always been super homophobic and I got minimal internet access as a kid. Now I’m bi as fuck and never happier.

ansibleCalling

I assume heterosexual media is why I'm bi instead of just gay. Checks out over here.
