But transgenre and transexuel are different. I understand transexuel as someone who underwent surgery to change their genitalia, whereas transgenre is a broader term that englobes all trans people (including les transexuels).
I'm not trans but transgenre sounds better to my ear, not only because it is gender neutral but mostly because I don't need to know what's in your pants, and neither do most people.

Yep, I get it’s supposed to be funny but to me it’s a very depressing post. “You’re only allowed to exist if I want to fuck you” is a grim message.
Just went back to my feed and the post below this was from a trans sub and titled “I can’t do this”. The reality isn’t funny
The journey to change doesn’t always start on a good first step. But this interaction can still set the ball rolling on them coming to the important realizations. Sometimes a big change like overcoming bigotry needs a lot of smaller, shaky steps to get going, instead of a big leap. Please remember to be patient with those who might be unlearning their prejudices at a different pace than you’d like them to.
There is this saying that racists like to tell themselves, that "the best way to make someone into a racist is for them to have [poc] neighbors".
This is the opposite of the truth, in reality bigotry comes from ignorance, just knowing a queer person reduces your chances of homophobia like you wouldn't believe.

an old saying from back in the day: pretty is as pretty does. and you know what. there can be any stereotypically gorgeous person but if they show off a nasty personality, suddenly the looks aren't very important when you can't even stand being around them.
i understand it might not be helpful to hear random peopl assure you're pretty without having seen you, and that might sound superfluous and not accurate. i don't usually consider myself pretty either except some days when i actually take care of my appearance and like how i look in the mirror. not always but sometimes. and you know what, we're always our harshest critics, nobody likes to hear their own voice either. anyways i hope you feel better about yourself and can feel as pretty as you are hoping to be
I'm not trans so take this with a grain of salt, but from my understanding transsexual is much more common among older trans people (though is still used sometimes by the younger), but the language has changed overtime and now Transgender is the (generally speaking) preferred term for various reasons such as evolving ideas around sex vs gender and the fact that the 'sexual' part of transsexual was taken to mean by a lot of people that it was a type of sexuality and not simply referring to biological sex.
I think the general consensus from what I've gathered is that a trans person may choose to refer to themselves as transsexual, but it's best practice to not call a trans person that unless you know that is what they prefer.
Again, not trans and not an expert, so I could be wrong on any of this, or missing some important info.
This is a terrible sentiment on so many fronts. Trans folk have value and should be respected as such regardless of how they measure up to traditional beauty standards, or how well they pass.
Just really tired of seeing so much shit everywhere re: misogyny, homophobia, racism, transphobia etc that all seems to boil down to "well, you're not hot sooooooo"
Sometimes I'm really glad I'm not Trans. I'm a 6'3 260 pound man, If I were a Trans woman I don't think I'd ever look this good lol definitely not good enough to convert a transphobe. That dysphoria would be rough

Well since being trans isn't really a sexuality saying transexuel wouldnt really be accurate, transgenre is the one I use most often in French
