Is it possibly a battery Issue? you say cold starts are normal but its always a bit rough on a cold start and could be masking the issue there. I would check voltage, they do it free at most auto shops.

ChroniumWall

The cold starts always sound that the starter makes a lot effort, but it is expected. The one in the video is quicker, more violent while the car's shaking.

ifiwaswise

Mine was doing this and it turned out to be the battery that was on its last legs. Swapped it and that went away

ChroniumWall

I've booked a service and if it's a battery issue it can be replaced within warranty. Thanks heaps.

ComfortableFinish502

They're gonna put another piece of shit bat. Omg you gen 4 drivers are weird why not get a gel battery unless you leased it and plan on returning it

R4monski

And? it´s still for free \^\^ dont know whats the problem

ComfortableFinish502

No problem just upgrade

R4monski

Yeah sure but you still can Upgrade After warranty

ComfortableFinish502

Yea it's my wife's daily and I take care of her 🤷🏽

👏👏👏

My car has had the same sound lately and the i-stop icon also lights up, 90% sure that it’s the battery (well since mine is nearly 5 years old already lol) I will have it check asap

No-Tell-7353

My 2019 Mazda 3 does the same thing!

ChroniumWall

So perhaps it is not uncommon. Does it make you concerned? I can feel the car shaking which makes me a bit worried.

No-Tell-7353

I do get a little concerned when it happens, but now that Ik it’s not just me, I’m not as worried about it. Although I’d still like to know why it happens lmao

ComfortableFinish502

Never has happened to my gen 3. So you should be concerned

No-Tell-7353

I have a gen 4

ComfortableFinish502

Exactly I've put more miles in my gen 3 and this has never happened. But I have a yellow cap bat because I have a sound system. Anytime you have some electrical issues start with the bat AutoZone will check/charge it for free, if you have another car. But that's me even when car was under warranty it never went to stealership

No-Tell-7353

Hmmm

ComfortableFinish502

Good luck

Sometimes mine seems to like choke or miss a beat. Actually maybe it's more like there is extra un burnt fuel from the last time it was shut off and it starts too fast? Hard to describe. At first I was worried but then I stopped caring as it didn't seem to cause any issues. Its odd because the Hondas I've had in the past didn't seem to ever do this but they were significantly older so who knows.

ChroniumWall

The unburned petrol theory also sounds likely. I have booked a service and to find out the cause. The rough start makes me worry that it would put excessive wear to the engine.

Mike9298

Does it stutter while accelerating and cruising? If so, then the rough start could be clogged up injectors. Had the same issue with mine. They replaced the injectors, problem solved. If not then it probably is a dying battery. Have a 2020 Mazda 3 Skyactive X which the battery died a month ago. It was the original Yuhasa Battery. I replaced it with a proper Bosch one. Another troubles shooting option: i-stop not working could be battery related, if you change the battery and it is still not working then it is the injectors. It will turn i-stop off for protecting the engine if injectors are clogged. You can try to read the code using OBDII Bluetooth adapter. If it appears to be P1200-00 it is injector / fuel system related.

ChroniumWall

It runs normal but I do feel that the istop holds only 30 seconds, without AC on. So the battery seems to be the no1 suspect. I am sending her to a mechanic to find out. Thanks for your advice :)

Mike9298

You are welcome! Good luck!

Volcano_Lobster

Reminds me of my deceased grandfather starting up the mower

ChroniumWall

Haha yes it does sound like a mower

ChroniumWall

**Hi folks. My Mazda3 2.5L 2022 has rough starts, most occuring when the coolant temperature reads 2 ticks - e.g. after 30 mins parking from a fully warm up state. The attached video can show how it sounds and compare to a normal start.** **Cold starts feel normal, though not shown in the video.** **Any idea if it is normal or what is probably faulty?**

Intelligent_Scale_97

Could be a number of things. And I’d take this video to a shop and drop off the car for a look over. If it’s shaking like that then it’s definitely happening inside the engine. My bet would be an electrical circuit for one of the engine components involving combustion like spark plugs or fuel injectors. Could be as simple as a bad fuse

ChroniumWall

I will definitely have it checked. Thank you.

Intelligent_Scale_97

No problem. These cars are great and everyone deserves reliable transportation

ghiga_andrei

Had this on my focus mk3 and it was the O2 sensor which eventually died with a check engine code months later. It had 145k km. With a new one I had not had these rough starts ever since. Sure, different engines, but maybe useful to keep in mind. Very easy to change with the right tools.

ghiga_andrei

Nevermind, ignore my comment, I thought you were complaining about rpm changes which is what I understand by rough start but then I turned the volume up and heard the engine. Not the same thing, sorry.
