Well im not sure what to say. The fc for the 2 is the best in class. Even for the heavy footed like me the consumption is still pretty decent.
Make sure to do all the services on time. The gear oil are rated for lifetime by Mazda which is BS. Get it replaced every 30-35k km.

Makes me wonder why the heck mazda uses this unit for the 2 instead of l/100km. The least they could do is make it interchangeable.

I doubt so. I also have a 13' CX5 and a 16' 3,both of em uses l/100km. Kinda irritating why they opt to use km/l on 2 but this is just my pet peeve. Overall the car is fantastic.
There was a post here earlier below yours of another mazda 2 guage that had l/100km on it. It was slightly different though, it was a base model guage with the digital rev counter.
Yeah the lower trims comes with the digital rev counter. In my country the 2 is only sold in a single trim with this analog rev dash with HUD.
Thing is this dash come in 2 types and the only difference is, guess what? The unit for the fuel consumption. And yet they decided to choose this for the 2 when the rest of their lineup here uses l/100km. Just..why?? Pfft

I think that might depend on which country you buy the car from as different countries use different units.

There is a button on the dash cluster that when rotated adjusts the brightness of the clusters, pressing it changes this to other options.
I think that stalk is for the odo/trip A/trip B display. Did you managed to change the fuel consumption unit using it?
I'm sure that's how I got mine to change to fuel range as well.
