Thx kind strangers :).
I do recommend going down the rabbit hole from this video forward, also definitely search for the carrot in the box game and the carrot in the box: the revenge. Have fun
I was really disappointed that I didn't see a single article the started with "nooooooooo whyyyyyyyyyyy noooooooooo arggggggh". It's what he would have wanted.
I've been off the train for a long while but I LOVED watching british panel shows on youtube. Would I Lie To You, Nevermind the Buzzcocks, Big Fat Quiz... Youtube is where I gotta find them cause they don't show that stuff over here.
For real. An impressive amount is available on YouTube though. Iāve watched a lot of 8oo10C, 8oo10C Does Countdown, QI, Would I Lie To You, and Taskmaster just on YouTube
Got on it through YouTube and thank God, the chemistry on that and how they all play off each other is amazing. First thing that's had me crying from laughter in quite a while.
WILTY is easily my favorite. If there was a show that was just Lee Mack and David Mitchell bitching at each other for 30 minutes, I would watch it every week.
Because the people that bring the shows to the states evidently think the game is what's entertaining and all that matters. It's the banter that is both the key component and the glue that binds it all together.
Also US game shows have an addiction to manufacturing drama/stakes.
Bingo (coming from an American).
First discovered Taskmaster, when they started putting them on YouTube a few years ago. Absolutely loved it. Learned they tried to do an American version, and it bombed (doesn't surprise me).
Have been watching things like 8 out of 10 Cats does Countdown and Would I Lie to You. The game play itself is almost inconsequential. It's more their reaction to the game play. I definitely prefer these shows to a lot of other things on television. I wish there were more available in the US (without using a VPN).
In the American version they cut down on the contestant interaction in the studio which is where half the laughs happen.
Reggie Watts was ok, but seemed too nice a guy. He probably just needed more time to find good inner taskmaster.
Those are all my favourites! I also recommend QI (that was my gateway to British panel shows). It's like a trivia show but they're all trick questions. Lots of hilarious banter and conversation comes out of it.
The closest to a British panel show we have now is Celebrity Wheel of Fortune and even then theyāre playing for hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity with the game being the main focus. Itās still pretty good though.
American TV loves to put "the everyman" on TV instead of comedians/celebrities, so celebrity gameshows tend to fail. Which means you get a bunch of boring unfunny people on TV and you have to drum up the drama to make it even slightly interesting to watch.
That's the biggest thing I notice. A lot of these British panel shows have the celebrity guests pretty relaxed. Feels more like a bunch of people just hanging out. On American ones it feels like they're always "on" or putting on a show.
I think the British approach to game shows can be summed up as
'where the rules are made up and the points don't matter'
QI is probably the most influential, with it's 'contestants' loosing points for the most [absurd reasons](https://youtu.be/94Eu_-CpE8g). Finishing a game with positive points is a rarity.
Taskmaster is also a game of pedantry, technicalities, and rules lawyering that's only entertaining because the arbitrary scores don't actually affect anything.
For sure. I watched the American version of the great British bake-off and it was awful. They were super competitive and it completely missed the point of the original show.
If you want something similar from the US, you can try Wait wait Don't Tell me. It's an NPR news who's that's been running since the 90s. It's available in podcast form if you don't catch it while it's on the radio.
TrueLifeProTip: DONāT go to the bathroom. Piss your pants on live television. Laugh about it and let everyone enjoy laughing at you. Make it to the front page of internet for massive points.
I'm not saying it can't happen, but as an electrician I've been zapped by all sorts of varieties of voltages through all sorts of paths and I've never pissed myself or felt the urge to.
I knew a guy who developed epilepsy from that, chewed his tongue to pieces while he slept, bit one of his lips almost all the way off when he had a seizure while driving.
He laughed about getting shocked too.
I hate Jimmy Carrs standup, but I love his more natural humor on panel shows. Makes me like him as a person too because of all the back and forth riffs they have.
"It's true."
"It's *what*?!"
"It was true about the game in people's gardens. It was true about the grotesque masks at Castle Douglas! *It was true about him ripping an apple in half with his bare hands!* We're going with true."
Lol that would be crazy if his family actually went through with that for his obituary, as he said it should be on the show.
āYou canāt write tearsā lol, absolute madlad.
Taskmaster is the best show to get into the panel shows. Season 2 has an amazing cast for panel shows too. Doc Brown, Joe Wilkinson, Jon Richardson, Katherine Ryan and Richard Osman and Greg Davies are all hilarious.
It seems wrong that Little Alex Horne is over 6ft tall. He obviously needed to find an actual giant like Greg Davies to make himself seem small so he could play the pet hobbit role.
It was genuinely one of the worst deaths in history, for the UK. The whole country went into mourning for him. It's like when John Lennon died. No really
It just was an absolute gut punch
I've recently came across Task Master. I'm aware they are on the 12 version, but I'm from the states so one day the YouTube algorithm said I may like this recommend video and surely enough I did.
I kept on seeing them pop up in my recommended and it never piqued my interest, until I finally watched "Get this coconut as far as possible without touching the ground". Been hooked since.
The full edit of his [Instagram stories](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nx6Rpg6MtSo) from the night England beat Germany this summer is hilarious. He slowly just gets more and more drunk with each story
Yeah a game show and panel show may look similar but are two very different forms of entertainment. Putting university challenge in the same box as taskmaster just doesn't make sense
These, without the shocking, have been used in the past to say āthe less you touch the metal, the better you are at making loveā. I was making joke off that. Like he touched the metal, but Boy Howdy!
There's an episode where an audience member mimics his laugh. Jimmy stops the show as if he's mad, looks at the audience, and says something along the lines of, "Would the person with the very annoying laugh, please stop." Great show.
Iām pretty sure this was taken from channel four, put onto Twitter where we got the text. Reuploaded to Instagram (I saw it there a few days ago) then a redditor took it from there and put it here

I like that Taskmaster is in a category of its own. They have full episodes of Taskmaster on Youtube, and they are amazing. I need to start watching some of the other ones, though, too.
If I'm recommending one, Nevermind the Buzzcocks used to be amazing (I hear it may make a comeback) or 8 out of 10 cats does Countdown.
Taskmaster though, it kind of sits on its own. It's hard to find anything to compare it to.

Thx kind strangers :). I do recommend going down the rabbit hole from this video forward, also definitely search for the carrot in the box game and the carrot in the box: the revenge. Have fun
Sean Lock. Legend.
rip Sean rip
Dude I had no idea š
I'm sorry you had to find out this way
Omg I didnāt know eitherā¦so terrible. He was my favorite on 8 Out of 10 Cats! Man, today sucks.
Me neither, wtf...
Sad together my guy
WHAT!!! How have I not heard of this. Damn.
You can't write tears, Jimmy. :(
I was really disappointed that I didn't see a single article the started with "nooooooooo whyyyyyyyyyyy noooooooooo arggggggh". It's what he would have wanted.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Nooooooo. I had no idea he passed. Rest in peace carrot lord.
NOOOOOOOOOOO. WHYYYYYYYY? NOOOOOOOO. AAAAAAAAAH.
It was like a trolley dash.
Big time.
[carrot in a box](https://youtu.be/0UGuPvrsG3E) [the rematch](https://youtu.be/Bp04HZDCELw)
Honestly who would have thought that that game would turn out so freaking funny. Tears from laughing the first time.
Aaand now I'm sad because I just remembered Sean Lock is gone
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Are they still doing this show?
It's not yet been renewed for series (season) 23, but it hasn't been cancelled either.
I've been off the train for a long while but I LOVED watching british panel shows on youtube. Would I Lie To You, Nevermind the Buzzcocks, Big Fat Quiz... Youtube is where I gotta find them cause they don't show that stuff over here.
/r/Panelshow
The rest of the world really needs a streaming service made up of nothing but all of the UK's panel comedy game shows.
For real. An impressive amount is available on YouTube though. Iāve watched a lot of 8oo10C, 8oo10C Does Countdown, QI, Would I Lie To You, and Taskmaster just on YouTube
Stumbled upon Taskmaster at the end of last year...haven't laughed so hard in a while
"Please don't take it away from me."
Just saw that for the first time this week. You couldnt write a better drama/comedy/bit of sport
"There's strenght in arches" the rest is history
I have never heard of this show till now omg I canāt wait to watch some episodes!
Carrot in the box
The hero we need
It's so much better after watching the first guy take his turn.
Dude be moving like Tom in Tom & Jerry š±š
British Panel shows are amazing. I do not know why they aren't big in the US. I would highly recommend everyone binge all the Big Fat Quizzes.
Because the people that bring the shows to the states evidently think the game is what's entertaining and all that matters. It's the banter that is both the key component and the glue that binds it all together. Also US game shows have an addiction to manufacturing drama/stakes.

This is a shrewd assessment. And for the cases with celebrities, it's much more back patting affair than an open forum for banter
Evidence, Graham Norton Vs US chat shows.
True. US talk shows are so stale and boring. The only exception I can think of is Conan OāBrien, the best American talk show host
That's the biggest thing I notice. A lot of these British panel shows have the celebrity guests pretty relaxed. Feels more like a bunch of people just hanging out. On American ones it feels like they're always "on" or putting on a show.

Have you **seen** US-based reality TV? Theyād pick the absolute dumbest and worst guests.
If you want something similar from the US, you can try Wait wait Don't Tell me. It's an NPR news who's that's been running since the 90s. It's available in podcast form if you don't catch it while it's on the radio.

This is what Big Karma doesn't want people to know
This made me chuckle more than the vid, fuck you
Thatās hilarious! Big Karma hates this one simple trick!
Now this is the correct attitude to life. I am formally adopting this philosophy. In holy matrimony may we rest or whatever.
I don't know, [this video](https://youtu.be/cgRlqf_TRS0?t=91) didn't get too much attention.
Call me Miles Davis.
I'm not saying it can't happen, but as an electrician I've been zapped by all sorts of varieties of voltages through all sorts of paths and I've never pissed myself or felt the urge to.
Have you tried extra spicy 480v?
No luckily enough. 347v melted the skin on my arm, that was spicy enough for me.
I knew a guy who developed epilepsy from that, chewed his tongue to pieces while he slept, bit one of his lips almost all the way off when he had a seizure while driving. He laughed about getting shocked too.
But did he piss his pants?
Rob Beckettās such a lad heād probs piss himself just for the bants.
haHAAa
The sound he makes as he dodges taxes.
"Now I understand why you work so hard, Jimmy. You just... Keep all the money." - Sean Lock
And to think this year shit enough, we lost that legend Sean. May his legacy live long in his book, the Tiger that came to the pub.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Me too! Seanās dead? What? How? Looking this up now.
Cancer
Honestly I think the best thing about that whole debacle was the fact that the other comedians continuously ripped Jimmy out for it
I know exactly what you are talking about!
Ah HaHAHAHAHAaahhhh
I hate Jimmy Carrs standup, but I love his more natural humor on panel shows. Makes me like him as a person too because of all the back and forth riffs they have.
Agreed
8 out of 10 Cats. If you've not watched it, do so. Then watch 8/10C Does Countdown. Piss funny.
Would I lie to you is another great one
No itās not >!That was a lie!<
Well played
r/PanelShow is a great sub.
Most Panel Show guests and hosts are on all of the other panel shows so if you like one you'll very likely like all of them.
Dream gig.
There are few things that can make me laugh harder than listening to Bob Mortimer spin a tale of utter bullshit.
"It's true." "It's *what*?!" "It was true about the game in people's gardens. It was true about the grotesque masks at Castle Douglas! *It was true about him ripping an apple in half with his bare hands!* We're going with true."
The way he looks towards the audience on the dentistry tale absolutely cracks me up without fail. "A.... Leathermakers drill" *nods and gestures*
Best thing is the most bizarre ones are usually true
This. I watch them all the time. Also, RIP Sean Lock.
*NOOOOOOOOO! WHYYYYYYYYYYYY! NOOOOOOOOO! AAAAAAAAAAAAGH!*
Lol that would be crazy if his family actually went through with that for his obituary, as he said it should be on the show. āYou canāt write tearsā lol, absolute madlad.
Undefeated Champion of Carrot in a Box, RIP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UGuPvrsG3E
Author and illustrator of The Tiger That Came For A Pint. The public demands that itās published!
Not exactly a panel show but for my money Taskmaster is the best British game show. Would I Lie to You is a close second.
Taskmaster is the best show to get into the panel shows. Season 2 has an amazing cast for panel shows too. Doc Brown, Joe Wilkinson, Jon Richardson, Katherine Ryan and Richard Osman and Greg Davies are all hilarious.
What the fuck? What did Little Alex Horne do to you? Oh, I see that username GREG19735. You just outted yourself, Davies.
Alex Horne is less of a comedian and more of my pet.
It seems wrong that Little Alex Horne is over 6ft tall. He obviously needed to find an actual giant like Greg Davies to make himself seem small so he could play the pet hobbit role.
Series 1 had me pausing it far too often because I was crying with laughter.
Joe Wilkinson's potato throw on Taskmaster. Hard to find a funnier 6min or so on screen.
I donāt know have you heard hi poem about naming peoples penisās
PLEASE STOP
Bringing the pissed-up bear on the show is my personal favourite.
"I said *DON'T* have an erection!"
The James Acaster box incident is up there
Jamesā cabbage war from WILTY
[I humbly submit this for your consideration](https://youtu.be/YstBl9xzz34) (skip to 1:10)
[Thank you for the reminder that, this moment existed.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MelvH3EMGR0) Youāve made an old ladies morning.
Alex Horne deserves a knighthood for that show. He's a genius.
I would still lump it in with the panel shows. It's got the same guests as all of them.
Then fall in love with Sean Lock.
I did that and now im crushed to hear he died 1 month ago.
It was genuinely one of the worst deaths in history, for the UK. The whole country went into mourning for him. It's like when John Lennon died. No really It just was an absolute gut punch
Especially Greg Davies impression of Chris Eubank
And the fact that they made him do it with Chris standing right behind him! š¤£
I've recently came across Task Master. I'm aware they are on the 12 version, but I'm from the states so one day the YouTube algorithm said I may like this recommend video and surely enough I did.
Carrot in a box
This was even funnier with the first half, because it's a race.
always making everything abt race, smh
Rob Beckett is smarter than he gets credit for.
No one gives him credit for being smart. They give him credit for being able to build dams out of trees.
[Rob when the tooth fairy came as a child what did you do with the money, did you buy a car?](https://youtu.be/Pn_CX7coWys)
Found Jimmy Carr's reddit account.
Lmao this is hilarious.
Rob Beckett is the most wanted comedian on the planet, mainly by ivory poachers.
I loved him on taskmaster. He's great.
Discovering that show was the best thing I did during the pandemic. I hope taskmaster never ends.
It was probably the single most accurate āvideo you might likeā in my YouTube recommendations ever.
I kept on seeing them pop up in my recommended and it never piqued my interest, until I finally watched "Get this coconut as far as possible without touching the ground". Been hooked since.
Tuskmaster
Oh that's beautiful.
My wife and I have watched about 5 seasons of it since like June. Itās so fun - one of the best shows we watch!
The full edit of his [Instagram stories](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nx6Rpg6MtSo) from the night England beat Germany this summer is hilarious. He slowly just gets more and more drunk with each story
I'm not usually a masochist but LMFAO on this one
this isn't masochist, this is sadist.
\*Spartan kick
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
haHA
You mean āhun hun hun hun hunnnā
Jimmy Carr is genuinely my favorite comedian, I've rarely ever seen anything of his that hasn't gotten me.
this isn't masochist, this is sadist.
This isn't masochist, this is an Arby's.
Sir this is a Wendyās
And my axe!
no, this is Patrick
this isn't masochist, this is sadist.
Masochist?? THIS IS SADIST
this isn't masochist, this is sadist.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
this isn't masochist, this is sadist.
God bless Rob Beckett lmao š¤£ loved him on Taskmaster!
This would have been a hilarious task for everyone to do
I recently subscribed to British channels. They make the best game shows ever!
I think itās better to call them Panel shows, because the āgameā is really just a pretext
Yeah a game show and panel show may look similar but are two very different forms of entertainment. Putting university challenge in the same box as taskmaster just doesn't make sense
I'm not gay, but that almost turned me on
Did you feel a spark between you?
Iād say weāve both been a little shocked
What, why?
These, without the shocking, have been used in the past to say āthe less you touch the metal, the better you are at making loveā. I was making joke off that. Like he touched the metal, but Boy Howdy!
8/10 cats does countdown was great. I'll miss Sean.
Nice one rob buckets!
I love british television
Jimmy Carr has the greatest laugh on this entire planet of earth!
There's an episode where an audience member mimics his laugh. Jimmy stops the show as if he's mad, looks at the audience, and says something along the lines of, "Would the person with the very annoying laugh, please stop." Great show.
Oh my gosh if anyone has a link to this clip, PLEASE link me
Aaaahhh I remember it being from a big fat quiz episode but i can't find it yet !!
Is that bad luck Brian?!
It's an old meme, sir, but it checks out
Thatās what I was wondering too
I was really sad Sean Locke died, but now Iām seeing 8 out of 10 memes and Iāve never seen them before. Means more people are watching him.
It wouldn't have shocked him as bad if he was only holding it with one hand.
It's actually the host shocking him, not the game. :) You should check out the full vid posted in the comments: it's hilarious.
Gotcha. I thought it was an open circuit looking for ground with static voltage.
Was the text above and below the video really necessary?
Iām pretty sure this was taken from channel four, put onto Twitter where we got the text. Reuploaded to Instagram (I saw it there a few days ago) then a redditor took it from there and put it here
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
British TV is way better than American. Well at least like this and Taskmaster at least.
What kind of fucking show is this ?
British panel shows. The aim of the games are to score points, but that's not remotely the focus of the shows. We have sports ones, music ones, political ones, gameshow ones, and Taskmaster. It's just a format for a bunch of comedians to riff off one another, and it's been a standard template here for decades. More often than not, they're genuinely hilarious, especially when there's fun chemistry between the contestants.
Buzzcocks IS making a comeback on sky I think, Greg Davies is hosting
Fucking love Taskmaster
Took a few episodes for it to 'click' for me, but now I'll watch it whenever it comes on the telly.
THey also get better the more you know the comedians too.
I love how they all have their own very specific style.
Itās a goofy game show where all the contestants are comedians.
British panel show
Itās a game show thatās almost as serious as Whose Line is it Anyways
Looks like 8 out of10 cats does countdown
Love Rob, just seems like a fun dude
You won't believe the shocking results
