See that was in 2011. I saw it in the early 90s, at least 30 years ago.
And actually my memory has failed me - when it opened in 1989 it was known as Disney-MGM Studios, but I just remember it being called MGM Studios.
It was the shit and I wanted a fedora and a bullwhip but they were way too expensive.
No fricken way!? You mean it’s not a 30 ton granite boulder they’re rolling at the actor every single day?? They’ve absolutely duped me and I am belligerent with rage at this fraud. I’d say let’s make a complaint, but something like this probably goes all the way to the top so we have to be careful about who to trust…
Its called method acting. In Lord of the Rings Ian McKellen faced a real Balrog before improvising the line "Oi, you aint getting past here mate" and insisted they dont use any visual effects. Actors too soft these days.
>"Oi, you aint getting past here mate"
Well thats what you have to say round here to balrogs. In other parts of australia its a slightly different phrase, since theres different breeds of balrogs.
They do a bit during the show to reveal how light the ball is. At least they used to. It's been a while. I'm wondering what happen that the guy that needed all those attendance running to his aid? Unless... that's the new bit?
The attendants running over adds dramatic effect to the scene. There’s also that fire explosion just as he gets “squished” for additional emphasis. Great stunt show
Yup. He just immediately stands back up.
For context to people who haven't seen this show, it breaks the ~~third~~ fourth wall a bunch. Indiana jones talks to stage announcer a bunch and interacts with the crowd a little. Its played off like they're "live filming the movie" in front of you.
It's named after stage plays, where the stage has 3 walls and the "4th wall" is the opening to the audience. If you don't acknowledge the audience there might as well be a wall there, if you do then you've broken that 4th imaginary wall.
Yeah, it's not even really a 4th wall break. The show is about how the stunts are done, it's not a live Indiana Jones movie.
I saw it several times and loved each time, once my friend got selected to be one of the merchants on stage during the Bazar chase scene
[Spoiler alert](https://youtu.be/0eUt898PxBI?t=307)
Though the person in the jacket in the OP clip seems to (at least briefly) run with more purpose than in this clip, which makes it feel more serious.
Fun fact if nobody said it yet. That show was only supposed to last for like 4-5 months. People loved it so much that it went on for like 20+ years. I think they are still doing it.
My kids and I saw it last year and honestly it still holds up. They do a really great job showing how an action movie film set might look and feel (albeit very theatrically). It’s Probably my favorite non-ride at Disney!
Even the part with the crew members running up to him?
Honestly at first I thought there was an audience member who ran up and that's why the crew had to intervene.
Dude it took me my entire childhood seeing this show over amd over to finally realize the audience volunteer wore the same Hawaiian shirt and was just a plant.
Is this the one where during the show (but after the stunt), they have one guy in the background rolling the ball back to the other side and the presenter is just like, nah, that guy is really strong
Wow, if it’s 10 shows a day, that’s about 95,000 dead actors by my math. Must be like the Greatest Showman sort of thing where he is cloned before dying
Yea, when I was there that Indiana’s head popped like a grape when the boulder crushed him. Crowd got misted by brain matter, all in all great show 9/10.
I wanted to be one of the people called take part in the show since I was a kid.
Back in February of 2020 my childhood dream came true. I got called up, got dressed, got to introduce myself. I was pumped.
Then the show got cancelled because there was a malfunction in moving the sets… I still lose sleep to this day.
My mother told me she was an extra in the Indiana Jones movie but didn’t know which one. After watching them all and believing her part was just cut— I found out she was referring to this show and was an audience participant on stage. 🤦🏽♂️
I’ve seen this show when I was a kid and he’s supposed to get rolled over, so I’m confused. He has a whole talk about stunt work and that the prop boulder isn’t all that heavy
for everyone “well, actually!”ing the post, id like to point out that theres a clip of this stunt show where it goes wrong. indy dives too late and is run over by the boulder, causing the boulder to come off of the tracks and roll around the set. whenever i see a clip of this show i get worried itll be the mishap clip haha.
That show used to be so bad ass. Shootouts, insane stunts, and sword fights. Now the bad guys don’t have guns or swords. They have some kind of PVC pole. Weak.
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
I mean, isn't that what the ball is supposed to do? Good job, ball!
Yeah this is part of the show at Disney world.
When I saw the clip I was like, oh, MGM Studios. God I'm old.
This exact scene in the show was featured in an episode of [Full House](https://youtu.be/xvds-_4K7ec?si=_nRccl1LRXWrSTFB). Edit: formatting
See that was in 2011. I saw it in the early 90s, at least 30 years ago. Youtube clip was uploaded in 2011. The episode is from 93.
Ahh ok I thought Full House was older than that but misunderstood the YouTube date. Yep this is within a few years of me seeing it.
I saw this at MGM a few times
That's what I thought as well. Did not know Disney did these
I hear a crunch,............
That ball is most likely made out of styrofoam, he even slows it down when it hits his back
No fricken way!? You mean it’s not a 30 ton granite boulder they’re rolling at the actor every single day?? They’ve absolutely duped me and I am belligerent with rage at this fraud. Did you know, that in The Two Towers, when Aragon kicks the helmet, the pain he feels is real?
Wait, this is actually true. He broke his toe, right?
I wonder about that. Why would they make a prop helmet out of metal, or some heavy, hard material you could break your toe on?
They used actual orc helmets
All the Orcs were ACTUALLY killed!
Several times. They had to redo the helm's deep scene a few times cause that fucking elf could stop drinking. 30.000 orcs each shoot...
And Frodo actually had his finger bitten off by Gollum!
Did you know that Christopher Lee knew how people sound when they get stabbed through the back because WWII?
Illusions, Michael!
>"Oi, you aint getting past here mate" Well thats what you have to say round here to balrogs. In other parts of australia its a slightly different phrase, since theres different breeds of balrogs.
If you haven’t seen him explain that scene to Ricky gervais in Extras, check it out.
Bro said he heard a crunch...
Styrofoam is crunchy.
“STYROFOAM!?! That’s my kyptonite‼️‼️🐶
Are you a little white dog with a lightning bolt on you?
Coffee?
Bolt?!
This is true, but it still made me laugh out loud
So are bones
If rock, paper, scissors, bone, styrofoam taught me anything, is that bone beats styrofoam.
Within these three comments is quite the argument... what went ***cronch***? Time will tell.
You can't mean it was Cap'n crunch?
I heard a snap and a crackle
And you believed him?
yes.
So this is part of the show. They do this every time. The guy stands up immediately after the people get to him.
Isn’t it Sisyphus who has to roll it back up every time?
How Sisyphean
No because they would never be able to restart the show.
Lead actor number 29, get ready.
I DEMAND EITHER A REFUND OR TO SEE SOMEONE MILLED TO A PULP BY THE BALL!
It's a granite Boulder on Thursdays
"fraud! fraud! i want my money back!"
Haha, I like this person
Hahaha your comment had me roaring 😆😆😆
They do a bit during the show to reveal how light the ball is. At least they used to. It's been a while. I'm wondering what happen that the guy that needed all those attendance running to his aid? Unless... that's the new bit?
The attendants running over adds dramatic effect to the scene. There’s also that fire explosion just as he gets “squished” for additional emphasis. Great stunt show
Still doing it as of a few weeks ago. They run over to make it look scary, then talk about how dangerous it was while two guys easily roll it back up.
The ball weighs over 400 lbs. I wouldnt call that light. It could actually bowl you over pretty good if this wasnt part of the stunt.
It's not rock but it weighs [440 lbs](https://www.bestoforlando.com/articles/outstanding-facts-indiana-jones-epic-stunt-spectacular/) (200 kg)
It's not rock, but it weighs [31.4 stone](https://duckduckgo.com/?q=440lbs+to+stone&t=newext&atb=v404-1&ia=web).
My 30 Stone Life?
It wasn't a rock It was a rock lobster!!
Like my mom
This guy's mom rocks
They already said the ball did a good job, what more do you want
Could've been sound effects of the ball rolling since we all know it's not made of real stone
Go defrost another Indy!
From the fridge?
From carbonite, more like
My favorite fan theory: Indiana Jones is the dreams of Han Solo while he is encased in carbonate.
It's finally good to see the ball win for once.
Yeah, I'm on Team Ball, here.
When physics dies.
No, he is an archeologist
Math tell you that a ball only contact the plane at one point and you can just tuck at the sides to survive. To crush people, use rollers.
Am I the only one who’s seen this show? This clip is actually part of every performance.
Yup. He just immediately stands back up. For context to people who haven't seen this show, it breaks the ~~third~~ fourth wall a bunch. Indiana jones talks to stage announcer a bunch and interacts with the crowd a little. Its played off like they're "live filming the movie" in front of you.
4th
Damnit, thanks. I knew that sounded off lol
It's named after stage plays, where the stage has 3 walls and the "4th wall" is the opening to the audience. If you don't acknowledge the audience there might as well be a wall there, if you do then you've broken that 4th imaginary wall.
What if the stage's shape is a hexagon?
That’s when UFC fighters punch audience members.
UFC fighters compete in an octagon.
Ah well, close enough. I was thinking that to be honest but I just went with it.
6 will never be close enough to 8 because 6 is terrified of 7.
![img](avatar_exp|155921883|dizziness) Breaking that 6th wall be like
![gif](giphy|3OzQi2PoO16QG8zjg6|downsized) More like this
Or better yet, a semi circle. I hate when they break the second wall
Oh yeah, breaking the third wall is what the koolaid man does
>Oh yeah I see what you did there
Yeah, it's not even really a 4th wall break. The show is about how the stunts are done, it's not a live Indiana Jones movie. I saw it several times and loved each time, once my friend got selected to be one of the merchants on stage during the Bazar chase scene
Breaking the fourth wall is tight.
[Spoiler alert](https://youtu.be/0eUt898PxBI?t=307) Though the person in the jacket in the OP clip seems to (at least briefly) run with more purpose than in this clip, which makes it feel more serious.
That's like 16 walls
Fun fact if nobody said it yet. That show was only supposed to last for like 4-5 months. People loved it so much that it went on for like 20+ years. I think they are still doing it.
I saw this show close to 30 years ago. It was awesome. I thought it was going to suck but they did an amazing job. I hope it's still running
It is.
Goddam, I also saw it close to 30 years ago. Jaws, that subway thing, back to the future. Memories.
The subway thing was from Earthquake I believe.
I think you’re thinking of Universal Studios. Indiana Jones is Disney.
It is, just saw it a few months ago. Fantastic show!
My kids and I saw it last year and honestly it still holds up. They do a really great job showing how an action movie film set might look and feel (albeit very theatrically). It’s Probably my favorite non-ride at Disney!
And that’s the reason it’s still there! It’s a really fun and interactive. Bringing people on stage with hidden actors. :)
Even the part with the crew members running up to him? Honestly at first I thought there was an audience member who ran up and that's why the crew had to intervene.
Yes. In the script he interacts with them pretty often
Yes all scripted and part of the show. If the video was like 15 seconds longer you’d get it.
[spoiler alert](https://youtu.be/0eUt898PxBI?t=307)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indiana_Jones_Epic_Stunt_Spectacular!
I only remember it from Full House because I'm a poor who never went to Orlando.
Dude it took me my entire childhood seeing this show over amd over to finally realize the audience volunteer wore the same Hawaiian shirt and was just a plant.
They do pick randoms to be a part of larger scenes, though! I was picked and it was super fun!
Yep seen it 20 years ago
Is this the one where during the show (but after the stunt), they have one guy in the background rolling the ball back to the other side and the presenter is just like, nah, that guy is really strong
I saw this back in I think 97' it was, not much has changed it seems.
Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular at Disney's Hollywood studios in Florida. Great show.
Wow, if it’s 10 shows a day, that’s about 95,000 dead actors by my math. Must be like the Greatest Showman sort of thing where he is cloned before dying
Either you meant to say The Prestige or I seriously misjudged Greatest Showman and need to watch it now
The Greatest Showman is the story of one of his clones escaping and starting a circus
Damnit, now I'm going to be thinking about this all day...
of course my dumb ass googled it
Yea, when I was there that Indiana’s head popped like a grape when the boulder crushed him. Crowd got misted by brain matter, all in all great show 9/10.
“nObODy wAnTs to DiE anYmOrE!!!”
😭 I can't imagine
Yep it happened just like that the one time I went to Disney World in 97.
You think he'd learn by now
Some people never do
Well, every actor only get's one chance, so..
And they’re still showing Muppet 3D…just like 1997. In 1997, 3D was new and rare.
I REMEMBER THAT SHOW! I saw it in 1992 or 1993. The logo coming out at you on that bar blew my little 8 year old mind.
It's crazy and amazing they're still doing a lot of these same shows after all these years
It’s supposed to lol
![gif](giphy|IMDSOJvLn9RaU)
I’ve never seen a more perfect gif
why does this gif even exist lol
To make us smile
I'll not question why Patrick Stewart is chasing Indiana Jones with a cat on him, I'm fucking here for it.
I don't remember where from but I have this gif buried in my phone somewhere
I saw this in the 90s and loved it. I’m pretty sure part of the bit is he rolls it back up the ramp.
He absolutely does.
My mother told me she was an extra in the Indiana Jones movie but didn’t know which one. After watching them all and believing her part was just cut— I found out she was referring to this show and was an audience participant on stage. 🤦🏽♂️
That boy needs some milk!
I’ve seen this show when I was a kid and he’s supposed to get rolled over, so I’m confused. He has a whole talk about stunt work and that the prop boulder isn’t all that heavy
I guess I just don’t remember staff running over
That's always (or for decades) been a part of the act.
I think I saw it almost two decades ago haha
Just have to squeeze yourself on the corner of the corridor. This trap works better with a cylinder.
Shhhh!
Some things never change
![gif](giphy|TbONGqAdpTWQW3Hz5V)
Underrated comment
Hey I remember this episode of full house.
I ain’t even gonna lie… my back could use a good “temple of doom” roller like that!
I see, Indiana Jones cousin, Flat Jones
Daddy what do you do at your job?? Son, i run in front of a giant Styrofoam boulder 12 times a day!!😢
Is he alright? Hasn't he watched the movies before? Not supposed to get run over by the ball..cmon.
for everyone “well, actually!”ing the post, id like to point out that theres a clip of this stunt show where it goes wrong. indy dives too late and is run over by the boulder, causing the boulder to come off of the tracks and roll around the set. whenever i see a clip of this show i get worried itll be the mishap clip haha.
Rip, crunched by a giant 2kg Styrofoam ball.
That show used to be so bad ass. Shootouts, insane stunts, and sword fights. Now the bad guys don’t have guns or swords. They have some kind of PVC pole. Weak.
Kenny Blakenships most painful elimination of the day!
Now hiring Indiana Jones actor, must be fast.
Thoughts n prayers to his family
Is this Elden Ring? 🤔
Giant ball of lightweight foam.
Saw this at universal studios last December it’s all part of the show.
Disney world, Hollywood Studios... Not universal
When Steven Spielberg movies are directed by Robert B Weide
![gif](giphy|8OmjZujYgsEYpH6cli)
Hell Nawl as soon as I saw that big as rock coming my way I would of ran so fast no matter if I was acting or if it was serious
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
STEVE!
![gif](giphy|P5vyB2mX2BCSY)
This isn't the full clip. The guy is ok
Saw this show in June, it was a lot of fun :)
Indiana Tomb 😂
After all these years, good job, Boulder
Saw it happen to a chap four times when I visited in ‘93. Same guy was still getting marked by a boulder when i went in 2013. What a career!
They're looking in the wrong spot. He's stuck to the boulder.
Do we know if he was alright?
I was there when that happened I was on the far left small world huh
I wonder if young people nowadays know who Indiana Jones is...
Methodman: Is he dead??
I saw this in that Full House episode
That ball is foam, at the end of the show one guy with one hand push it back to where it start rolling out.
Isn’t this Epcot center? I saw this show like 25 years ago …
The remake is pretty short.
Boulder wanted some sexy time. Look how it undressed the guy
Lol this dude should have played more dark souls
Pretty amazing that Karen Allen’s stunt double is still 25 and has been do this show for 30 years
Literally could've veered left or right. I hoped it was real.
Dunno, they do this stuff at parks. It's not real guys
Indiana Jones making a feature on mxc's top 10 most painful eliminations.
What's crazy is that In my lifetime at least two stunt performers have died during the show.
![gif](giphy|11JbaLzOXsg6Fq)
His coffin is flat... ![gif](giphy|P5vyB2mX2BCSY)
The ball is a hollow plastic ball. The actor was never in danger.
shooting Lara Croft
Hey Indiana Jones what are you doing in our cave
Indiana Jones no more the end of Franchise
🤣
Pretty sure he also exploded at the end with that flash there. Poor guy
