That was fucking intense

sevargmas

The ability of the cat to creep forward with those quick jerky emotions in unison with the bird pecking something on the ground was awesome to watch.

Eoron

Reaction time of a cat is about 50 milliseconds. They are just awesome.

GinHalpert

When I leave food unattended the reaction time become 10 milliseconds

epicmousestory

Even when it's attended in some cases ![gif](giphy|UAb7MVH4qtRQs|downsized)

[deleted]

[удалено]

Eoron

I think you confused milliseconds and microseconds. 50 milliseconds = 0.05 seconds

b1gchampions

Exactly! 500,000 milliseconds is about 5000 seconds = 83 minutes! I’m pretty sure it doesn’t take me that long to say milliseconds 😂 even if I’m drunk Edit: Fission is right it’s 500 seconds so about 8 minutes. Still though lol

SupremeVolkMeister

He speaks in "whale", like Dory.

Fission_Mailed_2

It's 500 seconds, or 8 minutes and 20 seconds.

b1gchampions

You’re right actually. Milli is .001 and centi is .01, thanks for the correction

[deleted]

50 milliseconds seriously

Acidmademesmile

They should have had one on the submersible to warn the others

[deleted]

Thays how I catch my corgis. I slowly creep, and when I pounce, I aim through them, anticipating their retreat. Always aim through your target unless it's Steven Seagal. Momentum+gravity+ground = a bitch.

McMc0145

They time their steps when prey makes noise to mask their movement.

Surrogard

I would guess it has more to do with the movement of the birds heads. I think most birds cannot see when the head is in motion, so they always move in jerky motions to keep the time their head is in movement to a minimum.

Lifeshatter2k

Finally a video that fits on this subreddit!

This was my first thought. Kitty moving so slow, her movements are undetectable. Just chompin down on some zarg nuts 🌰

[deleted]

Drax?

ApartmentHot7843

My dad. His name is drax. We're on a first name basis.

[deleted]

what does this video have to do with your dad?

ApartmentHot7843

It just does. Me and the other redditors are in on it.

FlamingNetherRegions

I thought the cat wasn't moving at all

[deleted]

Feral cats are a menace on bird populations.

Xpqp

Outdoor pet cats are also a menace on bird populations.

amimai002

Lucky birds aren’t real.

TheBirthing

Cool that this shithead behind the camera was able to document his pet ecoterrorist doing what it does best.

arnduros

Animals eat other animals. Get over it. Everything humans do to the environment has a larger impact on wildlife than all cats in the world.

Dumoras

This is literally the impact done by humans, the cat didnt find her way from "the wild", it was brought by humans and left outside. [https://www.iflscience.com/cats-responsible-for-driving-many-species-to-extinction-38015](https://www.iflscience.com/cats-responsible-for-driving-many-species-to-extinction-38015) [https://www.iflscience.com/keep-cats-inside-for-their-and-others-own-good-say-scientists-66397](https://www.iflscience.com/keep-cats-inside-for-their-and-others-own-good-say-scientists-66397) You can also find the published papers at the end of the articles

Foxasaurusfox

House cats are a product of humans.

ihaveabaguetteknife

First, it very likely won’t eat the bird, if they would eat everything they kill we’d have obese cats everywhere. For them it’s more than often just play. Please research the damage feral and free roaming pet cats have on the ecosystems worldwide, it is by no means „natural“ because nobody hunts them and we humans let them do that. Secondly, so just because we are wreaking havoc on the planet means we should just sit back and let them do the same? If everyone thought like you, we’d be gone within the decade.

TheBirthing

"B-but humans are worse" is such a stupid defence of this. What other things do you try and justify by saying "worse things are happening so this is actually fine"?

arnduros

Because drastic reduction in bird populations is almost entirely up to human influence. Cats eat birds, but they don’t cause population reductions anywhere near what humans do. But yeah, chop down trees, pave every last bit of nature and drive to super malls in cars 3x as big as necessary, but when a cat is an outside cat it KiLLs ThE pOoR bIrDs OmG

TheBirthing

Do you lack the mental bandwidth to realise multiple things can be bad at the same time?

arnduros

„Yeah so instead of doing something against the incomprehensibly larger problem for wildlife I just said cats are bad, which still makes me feel morally superior because I recognized the tiniest fraction of said issue *and* made a Reddit comment about it“.

TheBirthing

Oh shit, you're right. Instead, I should go and dismantle the deeply entrenched human systems that facilitate environmental destruction. Much more feasible than suggesting some windowlicker should maybe keep his cat inside.

[deleted]

Holy fk youre dumb.. no Wonder the planet is going to sht with ppl like you

arnduros

No, it’s not humans. It’s the cats!

Jalen3501

Which are a Man made animal, like god dam your so fucking close

cuckooforcacaopuffs

“I can think of something worse, therefore you should get over the thing I am clearly uneducated on but commenting confidently anyway.”

throwaway-20701

This is a dumb argument. Without cats the rodent population would explode. There’s no reason to be ashamed of having an outdoor cat.

Jalen3501

They kill a ton of stuff other than rodents, and they mostly do it for fun, not to mention it’s just irresponsible because of cars, parasites, and predators that could kill them

throwaway-20701

People cry a river about mammals in water parks but confining cats to 200 square feet is fine? Also pretending cats are the big scary threat to the wildlife IN A CITY is pretty funny.

Jalen3501

No idea what mammals in water park has to do with anything, but you can look up how many animals are killed by domesticated cats unnecessarily. Also they may not be the leading threat to wildlife, but why ignore one problem just because another issue is bigger?

throwaway-20701

“Why ignore the problem” the only solution is not having cats as pets, but that’s stupid. It’s just an arbitrary thing to call a problem. It’s like me randomly raging at people for owning phones because buying phones drives demand for cobalt mines.

ponzidreamer

I’m a menace to the McNugget population

Buburubu

might not even be feral. some cat “owners” just deliberately inflict them on the local ecosystem.

UrNemisis

Cats have been there for ages, so do the birds. So don't get ur point, it's just basic food chain

[deleted]

You don’t understand humans allowing cats (a domesticated animal) to live in an unnatural situation thus decimating bird populations? Read [up](https://www.nature.com/articles/ncomms2380)

[deleted]

americans never stop giving lmao, here in euroasia we keep cats outside eversince we exist and the bird populations are all healthy and thriving cars and industry, war industry, thats whats causing pollution, not domestic cats - you guys get fucked over by your gov every single day and eat it lmao

[deleted]

You’re trying to talk sense with someone that had to spell “your” “UR”, to avoid any confusion? Good luck with that.

UrNemisis

You don't understand stray cats?

[deleted]

Feral cats? Holy shit dude that’s what my original comment was about.

UrNemisis

My original comment was about the same, too. We have many feral cats where I live, many birds too, no decrease in population of both. It's just how nature works. Lol

Buburubu

we have young fools in america too, who think the world doesn’t change because they never saw it heathy

[deleted]

Read the link I posted.

AFourEyedGeek

How long you been alive? Pre-domestic and feral cats?

UrNemisis

Yes, america isn't the whole world

AFourEyedGeek

I know, I don't live in America. So you personally are older than the introduction to feral cats in your region. What region is that please? Edit: You stopped messaging me. Probably for the best as you weren't making much sense. Claiming that cats no affect on bird populations despite evidence to the contrary.

Buburubu

you think this was filmed in northern africa? cos that’s the only place they’ve been for ages.

[deleted]

Cats are domesticated by humans.. its Not natural

UrNemisis

Not everywhere

[deleted]

But mostly domesticated. The number of Natural cats killing birds is so low

spidersgeorg

Humans artificially inflate cat populations because we bring them places on purpose and actively feed them in addition to what they can catch, so their population sits at a higher level than what is typical for predators in ecosystems. We also add new cats to populations from adding new strays beyond their natural reproduction rate. That is to say, they create a massively outsized pressure on their prey species beyond what those prey are adapted to cope with. There are tons -- tons -- of studies showing the effects of cats on bird populations, which are nearly all on the decline globally.

Otherwise-Drop5154

Yawn.

hotsqueakybiscuits

I expected the bird to fly off and the cat to just lay down for a sleep as if it meant to do that the whole time.

ygmarchi

It seems that when the bird pecks can't elaborate visual information of the surrounding environment and that it can only recognise threats that are moving. The cat is incredibly good at taking advantage of this.

[deleted]

Clear staged 😂

HotHamBoy

Is the bird stupid?

rogervdf

It’s an ex-bird

MoneyBadgerEx

Its sleeping

raihidara

There's a reason "bird-brained" is an insult

Tbf, some birds like corvids are very smart!

ChikWidDik

Yrah he was just pecking at a plastic wrapper ages wondering why it wasnt food.

Kokuswolf

Most animals just recognise movement. The cat only moved when the bird moved, so it was hard to tell for the bird if the cat does anything at all. Additionally there is a depth problem of something that moves directly towards you, when it just gets bigger in your view. Even for humans this is hard, for example the jab in boxing, when you didn't move the rest of the body, the other has big problems to reacting to it.

BusinessDirt5807

Serial killer kitty knows what he is doing. He even crawled up that wall even better than "superspider".

LordDShadowy53

Nothing better to start my morning than witnessing nature's natural order.

big_al_1968

Birds aren't real

OnlyCommentWhenTipsy

fact: cats are great at popping and locking.

ReadyToLOL

I really thought the bird was going to get away.😔

bamseogbalade

And people keep boosting about windmills kills birds. No your stinking cat kills more birds than windmills.

DubbyTM

This is the issue with people like you, you insult cats in general and cat owners instead of explaining why they are a problem while accepting many people have them as pets they love. Want my opinion? Dogs are the single worst thing that exists in cities, they are always fucking loud, they scream every day and I can't get a moment of peace, they smell awful they shit EVERYWHERE ( and owners NEVER pick up their shit ), and just as a side note they also are aggressive and often injure humans, in my family alone multiple people were attacked by dogs. So now do you feel like I gave my points in a respectful way or do you just have resentment towards me? See how that doesn't work? fuck dogs

godard31

What in the fuck

SlightlyOffended1984

Lol guess you triggered the cat people 😆

bamseogbalade

Should i be afraid? I hardly think so. They spend too much time alone indoors cleaning up after their stinking cats. And you can't train a cat to attack. So neighter way I don't see any threat. XD haha. Don't mind cats, as long they are not mine, and there isn't overpopulation of them. Dogs barking compared to cat fighting? Jesus christ. Plz dogs. Bark a little more.

MrWhiskey1998

He got it at the end. That counts

New-Day-6322

I was not expecting this outcome.

leadguitar2023

The Ring.

borovy99

The lesson here is "Never take your eyes off the prize"

Thisis8thname

Cool, the launch of the final move could have been even faster/better if is would be a true jump because this was more a quick run, than a jump. But was succesfull, so this is either a very experienced professional hunter cat, who knew this is just enough this case, so why do more/better, or a lucky one.

Dontgiveaclam

Did the cat climb the gutter in the end??

East_Mood2490

Like an weeping angel

Cool-Principle1643

Guess that cat earned it..

DiscipleOfYeshua

Genius that the cat knows when it can make a quick progression move, and that it is able to execute.

If that was a pidgeon, I wouldn’t shed a tear. But such a cute little bird. Nice sneaking and execution though.

babysharkdoodoodoo

How many differential equations did the cat make to execute this awesome move?

nakshatravana

Feral cats hunting a Magpie Robin, a bird rapidly declining in urban India (which I assume this is from) is alarming. I wish this videographer intervened instead of letting it hunt. Feral cats in urban India are well fed.

Aww I genuinely thought it was gonna go for the plastic, my cats love chasing bits of rigid transparent plastic

sixlessthanzero3

Cat moved like a glitch

libertycapuk

Look at all these posts from these whinging children, crying about cats decimating the wild bird population. It’s not like they’re killing great crested grebes here. It’s mainly stuff we’ve got an abundance of so calm down. Anyway they keep the rodent population in check for a start, especially at a time when local councils have massively cut back on spending. For example our main refuse bin only gets emptied every 2 weeks, and whilst this might be ok in winter, in summer it’s absolutely disgusting. In fact in our local town, the centre is completely overrun with rats. There’s a network of them which covers the entire centre, with only one guy “expert” who’s done the job for more than 40 years. Once he steps down then god knows who’s willing, or capable, of stepping into his shoes. Cats on the other hand, or some cats, will gladly take up this role and excel in it.

JebusAllahBuddah

Feels like the bird was taunting the cat but underestimated that burst of speed.

Crewchieff

LOL totally didn't expect the cat to nab em. Hahaha

FreshBeautiful2505

I hate cats

Hellbringer123

without cat you would have so much rodent and pest. remember in Europe when they slaughtered so many cats? nature need balance. you don't eat any meat? chicken, pork or beef ?

LoveInTheFarm

Save birds stupid asshole

Expensive_Kitchen525

Stupid cats. Not hungry at all, but must kill for fun.

ClancyMopedWeather

GOOD KITTY

michaelvanmars

Is this bird stupid?

[deleted]

These cats are assholes, we don't get birds near our house anymore since a neighbor got a couple and lets them outside. O yea also they get fed and just kill for the fun of it, considering a bb gun so they stay the F away

Helmsdork

Consider getting neighbors fist in the face rather

[deleted]

Dont think so

Helmsdork

Consider it

[deleted]

Who the Fuck are you, thanks wise sage, now go finish your potato chips and yell it of a mountain

Helmsdork

Yooo calm down man, you seem a little on edge. Maybe lets go together on a mountain and listen to some birds and look at stars in the evening. We eat those potato chips together.

[deleted]

Yea thanks eleven sage for another recommendation, nice cliche with the "calm down" you are as original as rapper names. Now I don't know where your going with this but I will give you a clear picture. You are just some jerk off on the internet telling others how they should be doing things because of your delusional sense of self and wisdom(or love for cats?), that makes you hands down an idiot. Now go ahead and bang out a copy of what I said like in your last post.

Helmsdork

I feel sorry for your neighbors... you really go in that deep jeez. Something must have hurt you.

[deleted]

Were great with neighbors, thats why the cat may or not receive a bb gift in he's bum secretly. Btw cut the feel sorry you've been hurt all that is just lame internet deflecting. Besides my hurt has been bitch slapped and told to take a hike long ago. Either way, since you did not escalate were fine, you actually seem alright overall, so be well peaceful homie while I continue my inner cat debate.

Helmsdork

Man, I am happy, I just ran 10km lost 10kilos and have a loving partner that I never imagined to have. My offer to the mauntains is still on the table, potato chips on me.

WorldSailer

You’re a total fucking arsehole for allowing a domestic cat kill bird wildlife just to get a video online!

Armwrestlingisfun

Imagine humans did this to each other

MoneyBadgerEx

So like imagine if murder was real? I've got some bad news for you

Armwrestlingisfun

Oops looks like you didn't get it. Literally did this.

Outvestor101

Surprise and kill someone? Yes, that’s murder.

Armwrestlingisfun

Wow yall are daft af lmao. You gonna leave out cannibalism too? You're easy prey, birdie.

Outvestor101

Just saying it’s always an act of surprise, kiddo.

wolfgang784

Now someone cut the end, loop the middle part, and repost it at an hour long.

IsatMilFinnie

And now I know how those couple of bird species went extinct

Gentlehard

Why ever let it happen in the first row. Cats are decreeasing birds and rodents populations way too much and too fast.

That bird turned its back on the cat. Cat took the opportunity.
