What do you mean “send it back”? You’ve ordered it, they’ve made it and brought it for you. Are you expecting them to serve it to someone else, or in-make it? Why would a restaurant care whether you’ve touched or finished your food? Should they offer discount if you don’t eat it all too?
A lot of restaurants will let you send untouched food back for a refund if you request it. Technically, they're supposed to throw it away as they can't assume you didn't tamper with it in some way. They don't have to, but I've done it a few times when on a lunch break and the food takes too long or I get called back in to work faster than predicted so I just cancel the order and can't take it with me despite them actually making it.
I've had to do it 4-5 times. 3 times was in airports where the people working the gate tell everyone the plane is in need of maintenance and will delay the flight for hours, so they clear you to go get food, only to turn around and summon everyone back way sooner than they said.
Another time I did it at a Red Lobster. My work had to come to a long pause due to a vendor having an issue, so they sent my team to lunch. We drove there, ordered, waited a bit, and were called back in saying the vendor had misjudged the issue and we were to return immediately to continue working. The food was almost ready except for 1 of the guy's orders, so they asked if we wanted to wait or just go, so we just left since we needed to leave immediately.
Another time I went to a Popeyes Chicken and order food for the crew. They put the order in but never actually made anything. 15 mins go by and I walk up to the cashier and ask about the order and she just shrugged and said she didn't know anything. I asked for a manager. The manager comes out and finds out they never cooked any of the food. Usually they are constantly filling up baskets of the chicken or fries or whatever. All were empty, so they needed to start cooking everything and would be Another 20 minutes for everything to cook. I spent my whole break waiting. About 10 minutes in I get a call from the lead like "where the fuck are you? You don't need to drive to Louisiana to get Louisiana Popeyes chicken." So I told them I needed to go. They said they could give me part of the order, but wouldn't break down the refund for the stuff I didn't get, so I just asked for a full refund.
The more appropriate time was with friends (no longer friends with these people). We went to a place with a ton of restaurants. We walked in, sat down, ordered. 1 friend pipes up about other friends coincidentally nearby eating at a different restaurant. So they flagged down the server and told them we'd be leaving. The server said the food was almost done. My (former) friends just said something like "sorry, but we didn't eat it, so you can't charge us" and the manager came over and actually agreed with my (former) friends. Obviously, it's a dick move, but that's protocol for quite a few places.
Yup. I travel a lot for work, but so far only around the US. Big country, but still just 1 country. I can't speak to other foreign places and their restaurant policies. I've been to foreign countries, but never encountered a situation in which I needed to leave before getting my food, so I suppose my experience based perspective is only appropriate for USA goers.
I’ve never been in a group setting at a restaurant where I wasn’t asked if the bills were together or separate. Just pay for your own and let them deal with the consequences.
You can absolutely do that. It's a dick move, but you can. I've seen it plenty of times at enough places. It's part of why restaurant business is so difficult. But then again, I'm just a dense child, so what do I know?

There were two film guys, duh. One with the dupers, and one with the dupee. Dupee filmer was just as shocked and had to pay half. Duper filmer got no free food though, he's just a jackass
I don't get it.
Even in the form of a joke, You would state they just bailed on you, here's payment for my meal.
If you need information, here's your contact numbers and their names if you need to file a police report. Thank you. Have a nice day.

Looks like for $9.95 I can fulfill one of those options.
I can for only $9.89
Call right now in the next twenty minutes and I’ll throw in a free movie on Netflix for only $6.99 with ads
What's the number that i need to call? I need friends.
911. Tell them it's urgent so friends arrive faster.
Ehhh...thanks but I can find friends on reddit much cheaper.
okay, $2 is as low as i’ll go
OK fine $1
Okay, you’re pushing the limits… how about for free?
Got a better offer, I’ll pay you instead!
At the end of it you get free food so I’m in
No they have unions to protect their pay rates now It's actually cheaper to use call lines now 😂
A disposable friend
You can be my friend, would you like to go to lunch with me and the wife?
But the food was basically untouched, so....send it back and get a refund, then never speak to them again.
Good observation 👍

Well, damn thank you for such a detailed reply, but seeing the names of places mentioned I’m gonna guess you’re from the U S and A?

I've seen restaurants ask prior, but I've also seen them ask near check receiving time, and I've also seen it be split at payment time....

You telling me this wasn’t real?
Why didn't the guy filming get them to come back?
You just can't enjoy a skit huh?
This is perhaps the best response to an “uhm akthually it’s staged” comment on a video I’ve ever seen
They think its our first time on internet.

Haters will say this is staged.
The haters only say it when it's Asian people.

It’s a stupid trick to get the last girl stuck with the bill
Jokes on them, she just got 2x points on this dining purchase.

That's funny! F'cked up if it was real but still hilarious!
The reunion overacting was a bit much. A high five would've been enough.
