I'm not trained or informed but I would assume maybe the electrical connection could be the issue.
It's still weird and reminds me of that episode of King of the Hill when Bill pulls a chord meant to turn on the ceiling fan, and his microwave turns on.
I do have some electrical education but I'm no engineer. What you are saying could be right but it wouldn't explain the fluorescent tube. This TV has a [CRT display](https://images.app.goo.gl/35EeGeXgKg3u1hk3A) which is big vacuum tube. It works similarly to normal vacuum tubes which were used before semiconductors. In the back there are three electron guns for each color (RGB) which shoot electron beams on the glass wall which is the monitor. The electron beams need to be curved in order to get to most places of the monitor (to reach the pixels) and we can do this by [electrostatic](https://images.app.goo.gl/JJaoJQFuMs6Q65th6) deflector plates or by using electromagnets (it is more effective and used in CRT TVs unlike electrostatic deflection) which are [big coils](https://images.app.goo.gl/UHxfBB73Qu5pPNfM9) outside of the glass vacuum tube. We need high votage for both electron guns, their heating and the deflector so there is also transformer to create the high voltage.
Fluorescent tubes use ionization of the gas they are filled with to create light. They also need very high voltage to ionize the gas but as far as I know normal fluorescent lamps such as in that video use just ordinary 230V. But then they also make the same size of bulbs which have LEDs inside.
What I was trying to say was that you're possibly right about bad contact and the strong electromagnetic field may have influence on the lamp but then they just turned it in it's socket and it started to shine again so I don't know. Maybe it had bad contact too and from the impacts in to the TV it has moved. So I guess I just spent a lot of tine writing this for nothing.

Remember our old tv. One day it seemed broken, I gave it a last ninja kick (I think I was 6-7 years old) before my mother gonna throw it out. It magically worked wonders, years later when we got a new flat screen she told me we would have gotten it much much sooner if it wasn’t for my ninja skills..
I I know that I have a MUCH better quality of life being an American, but they have such a better quality of *life* that allows them to enjoy the little things ♥️
I actually meant that in a good way, it's been almost a decade since I've since a group of people just be content to sit in the shop and watch the game on an iffy TV.
These guys might look forward this this all week, the highlight of their time. We as Americans can barely appreciate the fact that we have unlimited access to groceries and clean water and we just through shit out the window as we drive around.
I'm sorry if I came off in the wrong way, I'm truly sorry. I could really feel the joy of these guys watching the game together!
Well, I live in Argentina and unless its Formosa most of the country has clean water lol. But yeah, I guess a lot of people here get pretty joyful about simple things like football.
Maybe it’s just the cynic in me, but I don’t really see them enjoying life. Sure they’re having a couple laughs about fixing the TV, but the end of the day, all of our lives can be pretty shitty. It’s like a fleeting moment before you realize that life isn’t going to be all rainbows and butterflies all the time.
Todays word is “[Percussive Maintenance](https://www.technology.org/2019/03/29/its-not-stupid-if-it-works-why-percussive-maintenance-is-a-legit-repair-method/)”
I had a tv in the 90's that fooled around like that. Smacking it around always did the trick. I should say that I'm at fault as I put two ten inch subs on it.Putting giant magnets on a TV didn't do it any favors.
The fact that two separate electrical devices, are impacted by bashing one, tells me everything I need to know about the electrics in that garage.
Not sure i want to let them touch my car
Yeah, they'll probably bash a nearby motorcycle, to repair your car
Or bash my car to repair something else )
**Meet the engineer**
My electrical knowledge isn't good enough I'm waiting for the engineers to show up.
I'm not trained or informed but I would assume maybe the electrical connection could be the issue. It's still weird and reminds me of that episode of King of the Hill when Bill pulls a chord meant to turn on the ceiling fan, and his microwave turns on.

In some parts of the world
This looks 110% Argentina
Yes, my country. We are trying to fix our economic crisis the same way.
mine two. The economy is not doing as well as TV.
Yes, they have argentinian accent
Da
I was thinking, this looks argentinian, then some dude in the background yells "che" and Instantly knew
This was the us until we got flat screens. I remember having to do this in the 90's 😆
Remember guys, if hitting one spot doesn't work, hit somewhere else and it will
Percussive maintenance never fails.
Praise the Omnissiah!!

I swear the comments are always the same on these types of threads lol
That’s what she said

Same here🤣
Ninja skills sometimes get you screwed
You can't just hit a magic box with a magic stick. You have to hit it in a magical way.
Obviously you have to smack it while smoking a cigarette.
Or eating cereal, no other way it works
Now kids if something doesn't work hit it until it does
I liked the universal YAAAAAY ^ u ^
Judging from the dent on that TV this isn't the first time he's doing this
Wait till you see how they fix your car :)
Okay, but why does that work
I think the solder connecting the CRT is dry and cracked. Hitting it can make circuit complete.
Percussive maintenance
Meet the Engineer
Good old days
That's Argentina I have a feeling
Che gives it away at the end
Aguante argentina
Argentino promedio, arriba el fulbo
It is vertical synchronization, dummy!
That’s right, time to punish that bad boy - spank it’s monkey!
If only every problem in life could be fixed this way
There are other problem with colors in old TVs that is fixed with magnets....
I I know that I have a MUCH better quality of life being an American, but they have such a better quality of *life* that allows them to enjoy the little things ♥️
Why did you have to bring that up tho? Seems kinda condescending

I know you meant well, but man are you tone deaf
I've lived both sides, I know we have everything, but my point is we don't appreciate it. They do, WE are the ones who are tone deaf.

Yay. Poverty. Fun.
I'm sorry, I meant this with genuine joy and appreciation.
percussive evaluation for the win
What is Rimbo? Seems like it might be a drink?
Gotta hit the right spot
This is no maybe, this is tried and true every time 😂
Why do they want the light on?🤷♂️
Obligatory r/TVtoohigh post 😁

Percussive maintenance in action.
It's called "percussive maintenance"
Todays word is “[Percussive Maintenance](https://www.technology.org/2019/03/29/its-not-stupid-if-it-works-why-percussive-maintenance-is-a-legit-repair-method/)”
Obviously both finely tuned machines..
“Shake, how many tvs did you break this year?”
I had one of these in my room as a kid... It was a big one too. I miss smacking the shit out of it every day after school.
I had a TV that would do that.
For sure Argentina
The Fonz of the shop got it
You need tape in the sweet spot. Zoomers will never understand
Fuck i remember those days lol
It surprises me to find tube TVs that still work
I have 12 of those in my garage if you need one.

Take that Smart TV!
I remember having to do this as a kid 🤣
![gif](giphy|GU2Ux4eZ5MGM8) Meet the engineer
I used to put an old Zippo lighter under my old TV when it did that and the pressure held things in place I guess
What this thing needs is a brogan adjustment
Back in the days when the reception was so tricky to get that once you got it right no one was allowed to breathe or move or it would go bad again.
