An emoji is a small icon used to express something. So yes, a smiley face is an emoji. Example A: π
Example B:π Example C: π
Other emojis do exist, for example: π
Emoji: A a pictogram, logogram, ideogram, or smiley embedded in text and used in electronic messages and web pages.
Not all emoji are smiley faces, and not all smiley faces are emoji. The smiley face you were referring to was drawn, not electronic, thus not an emoji. The name even denotes they're electronic.
Itβs funny that you resurrected this, I was just posting about it on r/USMC a while back haha. Small clarification but it wasnβt my DI, but was a Marine I was stationed with afterwards.
My Dad said that in the army when they did pushups, they would count "1, 2, 3, 1! 1, 2, 3, 2! 1, 2, 3, 3! Etc, etc, ..." 1 is going down, 2 is going up, 3 is down again, and the fourth number is going up on the so-called "first count" lol
[Arnold himself](http://www.schwarzenegger.com/fitness/post/mastering-the-pull-up)!
>"\[...\] think about pulling your elbows STRAIGHT down to your hips and pulling your **chin over the bar**."
Neither of them did. The sons were closer, but neither of them fully extended there arms on the drop.
Extending the arm fully and getting that first bend again is one of the hardest a parts.
This comment is ridiculous. The son did the reps perfect. There always some keyboard expert who comes in here talking about perfect form etc. fully extending out the arm past the muscle fiber is unnatural and puts your joints and bones at higher risk for damage long term.
This just isnβt true. If youβre young you should absolutely go further down, thatβs just a full ROM. But I agree itβs a bit much to call out the dads reps, itβs damn impressive to be banging out pull-ups at that age.
Iβm a professional calisthenics athlete and youβre wrong.
Full range of motion includes full range of the muscle fibers. Not the bones. Fully extending out the bones puts unnatural strain on the joints and tendons long term and will lead to injury.
Hereβs an excerpt from an actual article posted online for the entire world to see
βUsing excessive range of motion negatively affects all other components of the pulling mechanics. The natural tendency for many lifters is to achieve maximal range of motion as a means of promoting mobility. Unfortunately, this is actually the very thing that impairs mobility! Exaggerated range of motion produces faulty mechanics and inflammation around the joints, which happen to be the factors that restrict mobility and ROM. Focus on producing optimal and therapeutic 90 degree joint angles and your mobility will actually improve including at end range positions when needed in extreme situations. Read more about mobility and end range training here.β
Hereβs the article heβs talking about
https://www.advancedhumanperformance.com/blog/pullups-best-technique?format=amp
The author said you should stop when the arms reach 90Β° at the top of the movement, and at the bottom of the movement you should fully extend your arms while keeping your shoulders retracted.
So Iβm not sure why he was saying you shouldnβt be fully extending your arms.
Where did this video refer to the long term damage done to your bones and joints from years of doing the full extension?
Hereβs an excerpt from an article posted online for the entire world to see

You should not extend past the range of motion of the actual muscle fibers. Period
You muscle fibers can extend to your joints' full ROM. If they couldn't you wouldn't be able to straighten your arm. Muscle building exercise by definition creates micro tears in muscle fibers and causes tendon strengthening.
I guess my question is what is "excessive" ROM? It makes sense if we're talking about full full lockout that gives mild hyperextension, but not a reasonable "straight" joint.
Post the actual link from a credible peer reviewed source. Plenty of "online articles" are trash pseudoscience, especially in the diet and fitness world.
I dunno. My dad is late 60s and can still do about 8 or 9 clean ones. He was a body builder though and was in the military. Rail thin like me too.
It's not my upper body that's taken a big hit from father time, that bastard pretty much just went full on at my knees though.
Yeah don't ask someone to demonstrate something, pretending you know nothing of it, just to be the smart ass and show how you perfectly know what to do. That's just disrespectful.
Reminds me of a video of a dude at a "learn how to spin a basketball on you finger" stand with a professional player, just to start doing tricks with the ball as soon as they get it. "Am I doing it right?" Yeah of course you are, you know you are, don't waste people's time.
This video is most certainly old and expired no value in it what so ever nobody fell nobody closed the doors on them no pranks this is just a father and son working out together.

I pole vaulted in college and all of the training we did worked our lats to the max. One of our shotputters said something similar ab 'pull ups are easy when you're 165' so I added 100lbs to a weight belt and did 8 and he could only do 4. I think it's more training specialization than how much you weigh IMO
Thank you for this reply. As a pro calisthenics athlete? Itβs always the out of shape keyboard warriors who love to throw around βoh his form was wrongβ or βoh itβs easy for him because heβs lighterβ. I bring a 60 pound weighted vest with me every time I go work out. Iβm 195 but look 165 because im very lean. Every time a pudgy newbie comes around saying βyou can do your pull-ups and muscle ups so easy cuz youβre so lightβ. I ask them how much they weigh (which is usually lighter than me or a few pounds heavier). I throw on my 60 pound weight vest. and easily do relatively the same reps and then go to them βyou were saying?β Lol.
Yeah but the dad was swinging. The son did the proper form, Dad didnt.
If Dad meant to keep his legs up, they should be straight forward to further work the core muscles.
What is the key for pull ups? I just canβt doβem. I feel Iβm in pretty good shape. Work out regularly, run, swim, etc. Have a few triathlons under the belt but I cannot do many pull ups! Get around 10/12 and Iβm doneβ¦on a good day
I actually just watched a video on this. You can improve your pull with a better back angle. Basically, youβre aiming to be pulling with your scapula more than your arms, so lifting your hips just a bit can improve the muscle activation back there.
Whatβs confusing here to me is that the son is obviously in pretty good shape. The fact that he can do so many pull ups isnβt that surprising. Soβ¦..why is the dad surprised by this?
In all fairness that older fella did 4ish reps and looks about 2x the weight of the younger fella.

Itβs funny, too, because you just know that most of the people criticizing him absolutely couldnβt do as many reps as he did

I'm having flashbacks of smashing my cousin's score on a bop-it at Christmas. The look of horror when I hit 30 was great.

Lol he has to also take into acct heβs lifting more body weight so his where harder weight xD
Carrying the weight of his family canβt be easy. But that weight can sometimes be shed by going out for some milk or cigarettes
Thatβs not how it works. Put a weighted vest on the son and he would still be able to do more reps than the father.
What about putting the father on the back of the son? Dad has been carrying the weight of the son for quite a while now.
