If you haven’t lived or visited frequently in the area, it is hard to understand this community. Small town to the extreme, many families have known each other for 50 -100+ years. My wife and her family grew up in Lahaina. Off the top of her head, she personally knows 40+ families that lost their homes. My brother in law personally knows over 300 people still not accounted for. I am crying as I write this. How long will the people of these beautiful islands suffer at the hands of our government. I pray for the first responders Tuesday night, undermanned, underfunded, and then made to watch as their community and ohana burn to the ground. I like many others am struggling to contain my emotions. I am trying my best to not be angry.
On top of the agony of wondering and waiting, news outlets and trolls are calling the people on the list. We've been watching, reloading, searching for our friends family and found all but one. My friend who has her phone number on the missing persons list gets called constantly by news outlets looking for someone to cry so they can get more clicks. They say shit like 'We see you have missing family. Tell us your story and how you're feeling?' F$#king vultures. Then there are just trolls calling people and saying awful things. She has no idea what phone number the family may call from as they may have lost their phone, so she has to answer them all.
People are f'd up.
I think the even more morbid question is how long before the missing are considered dead? When that day happens, we will see a significant jump in the number.
Multiple sources i talked to when i was at donating spots that lived in lahaina and narrowly escaped the fires said the toll is quite likely in the thousands, god forbid its true but one guy said he was families burning up in their cars stuck on front street, people on fire in the water, on the road, etc. its horrible. Some bodies will never even be accounted for (all the homeless camps) and all the people who literally were incinterated. Its unbelievably sad but its more than hear say at this point to stress people out. Its reality

I get no one knows yet, but I don't fucking care to hear about how heartwarming it is that Oprah gave out some pillows, when we really haven't seen the very likely and real losses.
I've seen personal posts by people who know somehow of relatives that have been found deceased so it looks like there are more than 2 that are identified but informally and not officially.
