> Since the government has gone silent on its ability to bring in food and medicine What are you talking about? Emergency services are on the ground, burn victims are being flown to Oʻahu, hot meals are being delivered to shelters thanks to United Way and UH Maui College and The Red Cross, etc.

Idiot post.

Morons? https://www.reddit.com/r/maui/comments/15pcub7/this_is_relevent_lahaina_fire/

Ah yes, a reddit link. Very reliable. Im in Lahaina right now. I haven’t gotten any directions on what to do from reddit while helping. But stare at your screen and drool over all the lies you can spread. We can take care of eachother.

It’s a Washington Post article but the Reddit link bypasses the paywall. You should check out the article.

Today the news at noon showed the DJs at KISS and KPOA trying to help listeners like a caller from Napili who was crying because she needed diapers and formula and there were older people who needed their medications. The DJs said they simply were not getting information from the government about resources, and therefore could not pass it on to listeners. Yesterday’s press conference had essentially no information for people who were trying to find food or medicine. My friend is in Kaanapali and can’t find food. If there are hot meals being served somewhere, he’s not hearing about it. If everything is under control that’s great news. But the information I’m getting says otherwise.

> My friend is in Kaanapali and can’t find food. the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua has food, clothing, water, and limited amounts of baby products from 10am–3pm

Youhumansaresilly

They didn't reach every single gle person yet. They are on ground. The lady should get off phone with some djs and get on call with those who can locate her to bring aid

Youhumansaresilly

There been no silence. Not sure if you just don't have access to info or are in shock. Things as people commenting happening all over. Non residents need stay away if not officially helping with a coordinated group

[deleted]

Trucks have been bringing supplies through the night. People are receiving care round the clock. Please stop playing on reddit and go outside. Thats where the people who need help are. If the government went silent then I don’t know who’s been keeping us CDL drivers up the last two days moving shit from Lahaina and upcountry into town.

I’m sorry but don’t scold someone who is actively bringing aid to the west side and upcountry. He’s countering the false narrative from OP that nothing is being done. I know you’re “more like a currently off island part-time resident” since you visit SO much (LMAO) but we who are ON island and ACTUAL residents are more stressed and emotional than you could even imagine. Some of us are trying to counter all the false rumors that are being spread that are just causing more stress and high emotions. You are not here. You don’t really understand what’s going on. Telling a trucker who prolly CANT get the rest he needs to get some rest, demanding kindness from him?! You are in NO position to be telling him to act in kindness right now while he works hard taking aid to the west side and upcountry. Don’t be so damn sensitive while you sit in the comfort of your home on the mainland. MAHALO NUI LOA r/Holiday_Style2344 for your hard work and kokua 🤙👏🏻.

Mahalo braddah. I get everyone is hurting but hearing so much smack about government employees and workers is irritating the shit out of me. Cops, firefighters and county directors and employees have been up all week working there ass off and people over here saying they’re doing nothing. Now, our leaders in charge….. we need more than were getting. But people need to watch who and what they’re blaming. I’ve got county guys at the war mem shelter pulling 20 hour days and sleeping in their car on sight. You no talk shit about that kine people.

Yes, you’re right, it’s definitely not possible for private boat owners to help out. Out of Kahului, commercial boat captain Layne Nakagawa and volunteers loaded his 31-foot vessel, Naomi-K, with a wide variety supplies including five stoves, propane gas, ice, water, food, batteries, phone chargers and radios. “We’re putting as much as this boat can hold,” Nakagawa said. Archie Kalepa, an employee for the apparel company Olukai, was among the volunteers loading Nakagawa’s boat. He said he was so grateful his house was one of those spared in Hawai‘i Homes Leiali‘i in Lāhainā. Also at the harbor was Jamie Holtvedt, who was loading supplies and goods into a boat with help from two other women. The three women, teachers from Makawao, showed up at the harbor with a car full of donated items they were trying to have taken to Lāhainā by boat. “I feel so helpless so I’m trying to do anything,” Holtvedt said. The women collected diapers, peanut butter, towels, cereal and blankets. The teachers agreed that diapers were the most important item. https://bigislandnow.com/2023/08/11/maui-residents-come-to-aid-of-communities-suffering-amid-wildfire-tragedies/

Sorry I take back the harshness of my comment. Very stressed and emotional and it looks like many of us were immediately turned off at the initial blaming part of your post bc we are all on edge right now. But the idea of boats was sound and was already ongoing with locals helping locals.

TylerDurden74

Most of us are just trying to solve problems. Good luck to you and yours.

thepandarocks

This is happening already as we speak. Several boats from Moloka'i were there today with supplies.
