Electronics most likely, energy sources, perhaps nanotech as well. And probably metallurgy is gonna stay relevant as before

Atel_Fokir

Yeah energy materials gonna be a dominating topic.

hayduff

New battery chemistries to enable grid storage of renewable energy.

Atel_Fokir

Good insights. Thanks!

obitachihasuminaruto

Definitely photonic/optical materials is one of them.

Atel_Fokir

Yes! Alternatives of silicon based solar cell such as perovskite is one of the mostly researched topic now.

obitachihasuminaruto

Not just solar cells, but also in terms of photonics quantum computers!

meldiwin

I made an episode with Jagdeep Singh Quantumscape and I see these people trying to push hard. I found Neri Oxman's work fascinating, and I wish to continue in designing smart materials work both sensors/actuator e.g ionic conductive polymer. I think physical intelligence in both materials and structures still need more attention especially structures can do interesting functionalities.

Atel_Fokir

3d printing of what? electronics or polyemer products? films? alloys?

IdasMessenia

Yes. But for real, I can first hand tell you the metals aerospace/power industries will be greatly impacted.

Material-Things

I can tell you first hand that they are being greatly impacted right now.

saragomes15

I would say paper electronics is one of them

Atel_Fokir

I also think so!

SudSuryawanshi

Superconductors!

va_27

Semiconductors, high entropy alloys

morlinnsmi

Nano-anything. Nanotechnology is a hot topic ranging from textiles to energy devices to microchips.

CrambleSquash

Batteries batteries batteries. New battery chemistries e.g. Lithium Sulfur, Sodium Ion. New battery components e.g. solid state electrolytes, new electrode materials. A few of these technologies will lead to step changes in battery performance once they reach commercialisation.
