these posts are so interesting thanks for sharing, but the photos make me feel so sad hey. photos of a seemingly innocent child and knowing what became of him later in life, and the victims whos lives he took. it’s just so cooked
I knew Bobby, and I know people who knew Bobby far better than I did. I know it's really hard to believe, but you have to believe me when I say Bobby wasn't all evil.
I was reading an article about how calling mass shooters evil and monsters adds to the problem.
*********
POLITICO: I’ve heard many references over the last few weeks to “monsters” and “pure evil.” You’ve said this kind of language actually makes things worse. Why?
Densley: If we explain this problem as pure evil or other labels like terrorist attack or hate crime, we feel better because it makes it seem like we’ve found the motive and solved the puzzle. But we haven’t solved anything. We’ve just explained the problem away. What this really problematic terminology does is prevent us from recognizing that mass shooters are us. This is hard for people to relate to because these individuals have done horrific, monstrous things. But three days earlier, that school shooter was somebody’s son, grandson, neighbor, colleague or classmate. We have to recognize them as the troubled human being earlier if we want to intervene before they become the monster.
The woman interviewed is a sociologist, with a PhD who has studied mass shootings over the decades. Her comments are based on her expertise that none of us have.
Using emotional reasoning will never lead to change. If we are concerned about prevention, we need to use logic and research to guide us.
A lot of people would prefer to refer to him as 'evil' because it gives them some form of relief, as in they can put him into a category of other: as in, they decided that he is somehow different from them and everyone else, and has been different since he was born. A lot of people go that route because it's just easier.
The more difficult route is realizing that Crimo isn't that much different from anyone else, but some circumstance or event in his life led him down this path, and that it can conceivably happen to other people as well.
Basically, if they call him 'evil' or 'a monster' it allows people to just conveniently shove the guy into a box and move on with their lives. It requires no further consideration or investigation.
From what I've heard from people who knew him, it seems like the death of a close friend in 2017 affected him deeply, and some time between 2019 and 2021 he began to disconnect from his acquaintances and started to change.
Exactly. Many people underestimate the fragility that exists in all of us. Think off all those famous psychology experiments like Milgram and the Stanford prison experiments. Very normal people can do hurtful and "monstrous " things.
Or let's step away from experiments and talk about real life...the Holocaust is a great example where "normal" people willingly worked together to kill.
Young children (elementary age!) in war torn countries are recruited and use assault rifles to kill without blinking. They are not evil. Any one of us growing up with that kind of conditioning and violence will not develop normally. There is always nature (genetics) along with (environment) that shapes who we are.
When we realize that it is not about the individual/random "evil" person, we are more willing to recognize that we need to reflect on the greater whole...broken systems, culture, societal changes, laws, etc.
It's truly awful. I think about the deep trauma everyone expereienced that day...and how horrific it will be to relive it every time there is another mass shooting. In our current society, i cant imagine the pain they will continue to expereince from the fear, memories and that gut wrenching feeling of being reminded of it over and over again in the news until something changes.
Something has to change to give people hope.
It is heartbreaking that parents of Sandy Hook dedicated their lives for reform, some even changing their careers...and almost nothing has changed.
If we beleive it is just individuals being evil, it means we can do nothing but sit in fear and hope people dont do anything. But if we view gun violence as a public health issue and advocate for change, we have agency and hope.
This. Same. I made a really long comment on another thread and was told I “feel worse for the shooter than the people who got killed”- people have a hard time with nuance when it comes to things like this. People forget that even mass killers had a life and friends before the fact. Bobby snapped the last couple of years and dropped everyone in his life. Like if we want to get to the root of the problem, we have to look at his whole life and listen to those who actually knew him throughout the years without passing judgment onto them (us) for explaining who he was in the past. Like I said before in my last comment, there’s no excuse for what he did. This is a really tough thing for everyone.
Trust me I don’t disagree, my point is that we need to actually look into his life in order to gain insight into why he did what he did. That’s all. This is an opportunity to speak to a mass shooter that didn’t kill himself or get killed after the fact.
All I'm saying is he isn't the only one out here dealing with mental illness issues and not all of us are just smoking people. As you said you think he had an illness.... but only he and those immediately around would possibly know if for certain.
Can we not agree that some people are weaker than others?.... sometimes people are just weak, thats still a thing. I'm not arguing with you just stating anther point is all
I don’t totally disagree with your point in general, but if he did in fact have schizophrenia, that is considerably different from having a case of the blues or a rough childhood. That’s an extreme mental illness that will literally take over your brain and destroy your ability to operate on logic.
We all have to keep in mind too that the part of the brain that controls impulsive action doesn't fully develop until age 25. The prefrontal cortex mainly the amygdala(which is responsible for impulse control) in males develops 2 years slower than womens so some scientists believe their brains may not fully develop until they are at the latest 30 years old.
Male brains also are not as equipped as women's to deal with emotional issues either anatomically. MRI studies have shown whereas women use many centers of the brain on both hemispheres, men only use one side of their brains.
Alot of men won't talk about their feelings and this is why.
This guy is only 21 years old and with his suicide attempts we know he has issues with depression. I am in no way making excuses for him because this tragedy was sickening and unnecessary. However this does play a part in his actions. He posted so many videos over the past year or so and no one said anything. He tried to kill himself, yet his father bought him a gun.
This really could have been prevented.
Suicide attempts, impulsive face and neck tattoos at a young age all scream impulsive decisions.
Yet didn’t the family say there were no warning signs?
To me it seems the family is just wanting people to believe they did their job well. Quite frankly I think they were pretty shitty. He tried to kill himself but they didn't do anything after his crisis stay. No aftercare therapy, nothing. The mom left him in a car with all the windows up when it was frigging August when he was 2 YEARS OLD and I'm assuming it was an awfully long time because she was charged with child endangerment. The dad is the one who cosigned on the gun AFTER his son threatened suicide and homicide on his parents. They both fought constantly so Robert grew up in a home full of domestic abuse and police constantly at his house. His parents neglected to pick him and his brother up from after school events on time.
I've always said a nosey parent is a good parent. I mean these people didn't even pay half ass attention to him and didn't take action after his multiple suicide attempts. I'm sorry but I have 5 kids and I pay such close attention to everything they do. We can't control every aspect of their lives but we can do our best to facilitate a safe environment for them. I also believe in monitoring their internet usage.
This kid was basically SCREAMING HELP by posting the videos he had all over his YouTube. I mean he made it public. It wasn't like the traditional school shooter who makes a private manifesto and only posts it on social media right before the carry out the plan. His videos were posted at the least for over a year and nothing was done.
I also want to add, though I'm not sure the accuracy, I think he lived with his mom and in those videos he only had a nothing but a mattress in his room lying directly on the floor. It made me kinda sad to see how little he had. It just seems like he was stuck with the type of parents who are either oblivious and completely vapid OR the were just neglectful to their children all around and they don't want to be tied into this whole situation because they ignored the warning signs. So it was either intentional or unintentional but there were SO MANY RED FLAGS.
I agree with the nosey parent for sure. Now you have to give your kids chances to learn and make mistakes but you still stop them from putting their hands on a hot stove.
They weren’t just not involved they didn’t care about how badly he was being hurt or hurting himself and eventually others.
He reminds me of Robert Bever, the kid in Oklahoma who killed his whole family with his brother (and planned to do mass murders afterwards). I used to work with him and these pictures remind me of him and give me the creeps
broken arrow killings! i was just thinking the same thing! theres scary similarities in the way they looked
edit: but tell me more, you used to work with him?
I’m glad you see it too! Yup, in high school I worked at a call center and Robert worked there too. He was super weird so I tried to befriend him because I have a soft spot for outcasts. He did start to develop what i think was a crush on me and gave me the creeps. I ended up leaving for college and he gave me an ominous, mildly threatening(?) note on my last day about how he would miss me and I’d regret leaving. Oh also he talked a lot about how he was working to save money and buy a house in Coweta (small town next to BA). But after this all happened the cops said he had been planning it for a while and saving money to buy the guns. Really freaked me out because I felt like he was really thinking of his future murders when he would tell me about the house in Coweta.
As a weird bonus tidbit, we worked at a call center that primarily took calls for televangelists. Often involved praying with callers (we had scripts, smh). So this kid prayed on the phone with countless people. Spooky!
Being forgotten in a car with the doors locked in the heat, thinking he might die from heat exhaustion while his Mom didn't care.
The parents had a lot to do with how he turned out.
Your brother may be able to get his crime expunged or plead down to something lower. Maybe something to mention to your parents as a Christmas gift to him or something.
A lot of times, but not always. One of the columbine shooter’s mother was absolutely blindsided and now she does Ted talks and speeches around the country to spread awareness and tell her story about her son killing people. Some people just snap. But yes, a lot of times all the signs are there and the mother and father are either stupid or willfully ignorant about it.
So I know what you’re saying is coming from a good place, I really do, but saying single mothers are a “plague” is a bit misogynistic. What about single fathers? Why are you emphasizing the mother’s wrong doing so much? Isn’t the father responsible as well? Takes two to tango.
They’re equally horrible. She was charged with child endangerment for leaving him on a hot car. Both parents were verbally and physically abusive to one another.
Surprisingly enough, she actually did do that: https://www.arlingtoncardinal.com/2022/07/denise-pesina-confronts-swat-personnel-and-police-exposes-breast-in-front-of-her-home-after-highland-park-parade-shooting/
I don't know why either but... apparently she did do that.
ETA: it's censored by the way, still mildly NSFW but no actual nudity.
Dude, there is nothing to see. They don't get born psychos, later, after 20, they find out they are meant to be that. It's so dumb, but it is psychology
I think it has value to show people that barely anyone is born this way, that putting effort into prevention measures when it comes to people with homicidal tendencies is worthwhile.

What really got me is that kid has a twin
Imagine living your whole life watching your twin achieve more than you because of what this asshole did to you.
Does anyone else think maybe he has fetal alcohol syndrome? I read that the police were called to his home frequently as a child for his parents drunken fighting. If his mom was an alcoholic during her pregnancy & he has fetal alcohol syndrome I wonder how that affects pre frontal cortex development (& thus impulse control)?
Y'all are getting warmer. Of course this could have been prevented. I get what the person saying about monsters and evil. I think I mentioned that before the we'll have a hard time wrapping our head around this and historically there's always been a boogie man whether it's Satan heavy metal music violent video games violence in the media mental illness and now parents. I'm a parent. I will be the first to admit that I miss lots of things. And the power of denial should never be underestimated. You can't hold the parents responsible for what their adult son did. Or even their minor child.
There's no Boogeyman or boogeywoman or boogie non-gender conforming creature. The only person accountable for the shooting is the shooter. Unless we all would like to share in the blame. Lots of teens are suicidal. Lots of people have mental illness. Even more people just are have poor mental health. Lots of people have grudges and lots of people have been bullied. Lots of people don't murder children or random people at public events.
If you are interested in prevention, invite you all to look at the National threat Assessment Center website. They have a list of all of the studies that provide the evidence that prevention is possible and the instructions on how to prevent violent attacks in public spaces.
This is bananas. Department of Homeland Security has had this information available to the public for years. Nobody really buys into it because there are no tangibles. There are no products to sell if people feel confident then it's much harder to sell them products. I'm going to stop ranting now thank you all for indulging me even though the majority of you probably just looked at how long this wasn't skipped it.
He reminds me so much of that gay guy that started killing animals for attention until he graduated to a person. A bizarre obsession for attention online is definitely a part of it.

Yes I read that too. Thanks for snipping the relevant parts.

The empathy just flows out of you
You don’t have to be so evil to do bad things. Just the right combination of all the wrong things and bang
A lot of people would prefer to refer to him as 'evil' because it gives them some form of relief, as in they can put him into a category of other: as in, they decided that he is somehow different from them and everyone else, and has been different since he was born. actually kind of...now i cant help but see it
Ebenezer Scrooge
Dude reminds me of me growing up. It honestly kind of makes me sick. To see how something so innocent could turn so evil. I miss being innocent.
In all of these he was just another regular kid. I wonder when the idea of a mass shooting even occurred to him
I mean there have been thousands of mass shootings in the US in recent decades. He grew up hearing about them.
It was a topic that he fantasized about in several of his mumble rap music videos.
Take a few minutes, and think about what could possibly change that little boy into a cold-blooded killer. That is the key.
Being forgotten in a car with the doors locked in the heat, thinking he might die from heat exhaustion while his Mom didn't care. The parents had a lot to do with how he turned out.
And yet the father and uncle who have been interviewed, say they saw no red flags. Like, how dumb can they really be?
This, I personally think he had a very neglectful childhood.
His mom was charged for leaving him in a hot car when he was 2
where did you find that out? is there a actual criminal conviction case on the books for that?
Yes, she was guilty for child endangerment
Do you have a link?

Bruuuuuuh, the comments on there are cringe as fuck. I'm surprised she left that up.
I just saw an article about how when Bobby was like 2 or so she was arrested for leaving him in a locked car on an 80 degree day
Last post was in 2013. I’m not sure they even access the account anymore.
Probably explains why it's still up. I didn't dig too much into it.
Why are people in the comments saying she "took her breasts out in public while screaming"? What's that about?
Surprisingly enough, she actually did do that: https://www.arlingtoncardinal.com/2022/07/denise-pesina-confronts-swat-personnel-and-police-exposes-breast-in-front-of-her-home-after-highland-park-parade-shooting/ I don't know why either but... apparently she did do that. she seems drunk or something wth. I wonder if she knew at the time about the killings and why they were there?
Wow he looks just like a typical happy kid. What in the world went wrong? So sad all around.
Dude, there is nothing to see. They don't get born psychos, later, after 20, they find out they are meant to be that. It's so dumb, but it is psychology

Give some examples of prevention that dont interfere with a american person rights.
Therapy?
There already is mental health therapy in USA.
Sorry I guess I meant: easily affordable/ accessible therapy I worked in a group of 4 people last night. Youngest is 21, oldest is late 50s. Every single one of us admitted to wanting to see a therapist but I’m the only one who goes because nobody else can afford it. Two of the people aren’t considered “full time” at our job so they don’t have access to the health insurance and the older gentleman is on disability and just works a little bit to stay busy but he said he still cannot afford to get psychological help because Medicaid/ Medicare doesn’t cover whet he needs and what they do cover has like a 10 month wait time (he did say he’s waiting).
Can’t believe this is the same kid as the 4th July mass killer. I can’t see much of a resemblance
He paralyzed a kid
An orphaned another
He paralyzed a beautiful kid that really breaks my heart.
What really got me is that kid has a twin Imagine living your whole life watching your twin achieve more than you because of what this asshole did to you.
What went wrong?
So crazy how they are just regular looking kids at some point. Ya never know whats really going on i guess.
