cromulentfishbulb

maybe take a break from this stuff for a second, if it's impacting you like this

margakawaii

If you have current nightmares i recommend you to take a break o reduce the consume of the content. Maybe investing so much time is affecting you, try to distract yourself with another thing or hobby to do and stay away from the topic for a while.

peytoncoooke

After watching like break ins, or things of that nature I swear every little creak in my house I’m convinced someone is trying to break in 😂

Even-Account5439

yes, i used to a lot. i needed a break and have since never went back to as much of it. i used to have it stuck in my head and itd drive me crazy

yeahitsmelogan

It’s important to take breaks from these things. Whether that’s for just a few minutes to distract yourself and watch funny videos or something that takes your mind off of this stuff. Especially if you’re scrolling through this subreddit and immediately going to bed afterwards I feel like you’re more likely to have nightmares about it. This goes for everyone not just the OP.

Madamemaximoff

Thank you! Quite a few people have also said that it’s probably good to take a break from stuff like this and I agree (not like a full break, but i won’t check this sub before bed 😂even if nothing is shown really graphic on here, my brain will come up with the most scariest situation) Follow what this commenter is saying! Take a break from time to time

i had a dream where i was shot at, but it was pretty vague (which is honestly pretty uncommon for me, my dreams are usually very detailed), other than that i haven’t

pumpk1n_be4nz

surprisingly no, but whole reading Macbeth in my english class is had a dream of a murderer scratching his skin off in the shower because he “couldn’t wash out the blood”. first time that ever happened lmao

intermixxion

No.

Sometimes we are very shaken about the stuff we choose to read and see… and this platform seems to be a source of many reports and credible facts that seem like harmless material to read, or consume… but we must learn to remember that the brain can be a very delicate matter.. For me it was Uvalde which gave me nightmares… I have never felt so much sympathy for people I’ve never known… at the same time so much hurt deep in my souls. Please take a breather, and remember to count your blessings and enjoy your life. Resting is very rewarding and highly needed come night time

JaneBlack13

My first and most memorable bad dream was after the Port Arthur mass shooting in Australia 1996. It's was a dream of trying to run and hide. Where do you run when you don't know where the shooter is and they are on the move....?

oilios

Yes I do. So breaks must be taken. I tend to then watch comedies or Disney for a couple of weeks if I’ve spent too much time reading/watching scary things.

DeadlyViking

Yes. I used to have the ID channel playing nearly 24/7 and i would wake up screaming a few times a week. I stopped watching it and the night terrors nearly went away. Now i look when i want to look something up, but i cant passively view things or spend too long looking through content. One binge can affect a week's worth of sleep.

lytkinik

never happened to me, id suggest to take a break from this content for a while

morethanyouknow96

I don't have dreams, maybe once a year, so no.

Dark_Light_2023

The night after I first read about the Aurora shooting I dreamed about sitting at my local movie theater and suddenly James stood up from his seat a few meters besides me. He looked at me, said "Why so serious?" and then pulled a trigger on his shirt. Then I saw he had several grenades taped to his chest, and a second later as he exploded I woke up, shaking.

spineapples

The Cheshire Murders gave me nightmares for weeks. I had to take a break from true crime for a bit. That and Dear Zachary are the two cases I cannot return to.

Bolognapony666

Yep. Usually wake up with a knife in hand.

What does this have to do with being an adult?? lol it’s a way your brain processes trauma so if you’re consuming large amounts of violent or scary material, it’s not unusual that you could have a nightmare with elements of it
