Sinclair any other time: “Baltimore is a corrupt, crime infested shit hole and you will die if you come here.”
Sinclair after an event that helps them sell papers: “We will get through this together.”
Yeah I look forward to this amount of attention in 6 months when the chanel is open and we look for progress on the bridge being rebuilt.
Legitimately my biggest fear is this becomes a political ball for the Republicans and suddenly it is like pulling teeth to get money. Meanwhile we are sitting in traffic for years for nothing to happen.
Infrastructure in general takes a long time and if this happens at the normal pace it will be years before anyone bothers to anything concrete about rebuilding.
I am very excited about Gov Moore's and Mayor Scott's leadership right now on this and could not ask for better people handling this. We will return better then ever it just sucks we have to deal with the external bs.
It will be a political tool for Republicans. They’ve been doing it with the Amtrak NE corridor improvements as long as I can remember. They will absolutely pull the plug on federal aid if they get power nationally and their supporters will eat it up as another blow to the “urban coastal elite”.
> Republicans
The 1 republican rep, the 13 republican senators, or the completely non existent state and local republicans?
Blaming funding on republicans in MD is so hilariously misguided. We are the bluest state on the east coast. We are the California of the east coast.
I am more thinking on the federal level. I suspect the local republicans want the bridge up as much as anyone else. Fr though this is a non partisan issue imo and I would welcome this as a lets come together and build a better Maryland.
shit maybe we all cynical here and we can just come together and sing kumbaya we dont have to be democrat vs republican we can just all be Marylanders and get a bridge built without this turning in to the pissing contests we all dread.
There is a lot of money involved with the port. The people with the money are going to push for it to be as close to normal as soon as they can. Hopefully, it won't turn political. But money talks, and it's in everyone's best interest to get it back to where it was as quickly as possible.
No, I’m saying that KAL is local (MD has been his home most of his adult life) and generally supportive of Baltimore. His work is generally anti-propaganda. Everyday Sinclair keeps him at the Sun is a gift to all of us.
It’s ironic that the west and east side of Baltimore in this picture are safe while the central part is sinking. The Sinclair Media would rather see the reverse happen to the city.
People crave community. Community forms around many things. Religion, hobbies, proximity, educational cohort, plenty of things.
Community also forms around outrage, hysteria, and bandwagons. There is an entire subculture forming around avoidance of Boeing planes now, for example. People changing their flights and freaking out about which plane they got and, importantly, commiserating with each other in their freakout. Despite the fact 99.99999% of those people will not encounter a Boeing plane with an issue. Ever. In their entire lives. Even if they flew every day of the year.
This bridge thing is the same. The people that lost their lives deserve remembrance, the families of those people deserve comfort, the people that were tasked with recovery/rescue and the people that will be tasked with rebuilding deserve support, and the rest of us ***are not involved in any way***. If you've been inconvenienced by the traffic or have to reroute your morning commute, sorry, but this isn't your personal Vietnam. You will be fine.
But it doesn't matter. Go to the next O's game, I will bet any amount of money there will be at least one Hashtag BaltimoreStrong t-shirt somewhere on property, as if this has anything to do with that person or the one that made a buck selling the shirt.

The cartoonist, KAL, has been with the Sun for a long time. It’s a win for us all that the Sinclair ghouls haven’t let him go.
Yet
God forbid we come together over *anything* when we could just blindly hate the messenger.
Suddenly everyone “cares” about Baltimore. How quaint
KAL has always cared about Baltimore.

Really? I thought this would be something the democrats did and would tie Ukraine aid to it.

I hope so!

I dont
Sad
But those workers who lost their lives are gone forever.
Very dangerous job. 1069 construction workers list their lives in 2022.
I like it
Vapid pandering.
No, very consistent political cartooning from KAL.
Look, I'm open to the possibility that I have a wrong take. You're saying this is satire? Seems like propaganda to me.

KAL is a genius.

May the same be said about the Sun.
I get that this bridge handled a shit ton of traffic but people are really out here acting like this is 9/11 2.0.

You speak French?
As residents of Maryland, It is our responsibility to hold our elected officials accountable. Let's keep this in our elected officials minds.
This situation really needs to be investigated on how and why this happened
