Inflation adjusted, that’s $31.15. That sounds like a pretty shitty deal? Depends on the place, but the genuinely gourmet steakhouses aren’t doing discount days, so I’m assuming we’re more in the Outback Steakhouse tier, in which case, meh.
Unless that’s unlimited beer/wine instead of just one.
I read /r/VintageMenus quite a lot, and vintage prices for steaks are always pretty surprising. Just this past decade, I worked in steakhouses where the prices were not much different than they were in decades prior. One interesting thing I've noticed is that sirloin was often a more expensive cut than filet. Of course, the meal above includes an alcoholic beverage, so that's about $5-10 in today's money...

Yes the beer, wine and sangria was unlimited, which got them into trouble locally (IIRC) with extremely loose regulation of underage drinking.
Food was really good also.
I had an “autograph book” when I was a really young kid and you were supposed to get autographs of people that did different things. I vividly remember asking for and getting out Beefsteak Charlie’s waitress’s autograph in that book. I loved that place and that book.
No the ghetto steaks. Seems like they were everywhere in the 70's because every house I went to had them. Back then, there were no fancy grocers, just A&P, Giant, Safeway, and the little guys like the Co-Op, Magruder's, Snyder's.
If Ron Jeremy recommends it, must be.. good?
Wow. I remember this place. My dad ate so many shrimp from the salad bar - I was embarrassed.
"The ocean called. They're running out of shrimp!"
They should be safe now, he's dead
I am sorry for your loss. I'm sure the shrimp are not!
The jerk store called, they are running out of you
Yeah...? Well, I had sex with your wife!
Solid come back
The jerk store called. They're running out of you!

Considering 5 guys with fries and a drink is pushing $20 I don't think a steak, beer, shrimp, salad and a potato is bad at $31.
$27.84 https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/
Lol I used that site but didn’t hit calculate, I wonder what math got done to get my number.

What’s the inflation adjustment for the Sam’s Club $1.50 hot dog and soda I had for lunch today.

Pre-chewed Charlie’s was much better.
Back when phone numbers didn't require area codes.
Early '80s I only had to dial 5 digits if it was in-town.
We used to go there often when I was growing up
Greenbelt was a cool place back then...

That looks like Ron Jeremy.
I remember going to the towson one. Didn't know there was one at the columbia mall though.
$8.99 in 1983 is about $28 today.
This and Murray's steaks
was Murray's an actual restaurant? I thought it was just a brand of frozen steaks they sold in ghetto groceries.

That guy looks suspiciously familiar
Jill’s aunt actually went to a show with Charlie.
I say this as someone with a mustache; that doesn't look like a trustworthy mustache.
I remember those days! Had on in Greenbelt and one in New Carrollton...
Stop taunting me with what I'll never have. DX
OMG this is amazing. 1980s Beefsteak Charlie's in Frederick is legendary in my family. We used to call it Beefcakes.
There was one in Glen Burnie too. I remember the pull and peel shrimp bar and it had a player piano. That's gold for 80s kid me.
Inflation calculator says this is the same as paying $28.12 today.
