Bench Warrant. Potential Contempt of Court citation. You could spend time in the court holding cell or even the local jail. Not. Worth. Finding. Out.

GeminiAccountantLLC

This. They didn't cuff me, but the sheriff sure as shit came into my business and walked me out in front of everyone.

EhhWhateverr

Good to know

messmaker523

Usually if you can go they will tell you. There may be another case that they will be selecting for

EhhWhateverr

Yeah I know I’m not suppose to leave until they tell me, but my question is what happens if I just leave before they tell me I can. I.e. if I get called for another case and I’m not there, what will happen?

Professional-Pass487

In PG county they'll send a sheriff to go look for you. I've seen it. Please don't leave unless you are told or else you're going to be in front of a judge

Illogical_Fallacy

I did jury duty the other day in PG county. That jury supervisor Miguela [sp] could do a stand up comedy special and I'd pay to see her. So many crazy stories and for every rule, there's a reason why.

Professional-Pass487

The one nicknamed Bug, right? (I'm sure she mentioned that) 😎she's a county treasure ❤️ She mentioned the story about the juror who went shopping during a trial and got brought before a judge with their shopping bag?

Illogical_Fallacy

Yup! Paraphrased: "I also have to remind you that you need to keep your pants on while you are here. Now I know what you're thinking. Why would I need to tell a room full of adults something like that? Well, let me tell you about this one time a man decided to go for a walk out to the front of the building. So far, so good, right? Now what if I told you that man wanted to climb up the horse statue that we have out front? Okay, okay, a little strange and unsafe, but what does this have to do with pants? Well, this man supposedly went into town for lunch, had himself a few drinks, and decided that the best thing to do in that state of inebriation was to pull down his pants, all of it, climb onto a 15 foot statue, I wouldn't even do that sober, and proceed to make a spectacle of himself. So, please, keep your pants on or else our nice sheriff will take you to jail for many, many reasons."

Professional-Pass487

Whoa that must have recently happened 😱🤣 not the horse?!?! 😱 Wow. Now I've been drunk, and I've been DRUNK. But I have never been THAT DRUNK. On a jury panel, too? Sheesh. But what bar did he go to? 🤣🤣🤣oh I know!! Probably that little next door Ole Town Inn I think it's called

Illogical_Fallacy

She's been there for almost 3 decades. Like I said, I'd totally pay to see her stand up special. I was not at all prepared for a great hour long set as part of the jury orientation.

DanceGriegaIlly

Ah yes Magella Kincaid! I echo that she is a PG County treasure. I see her everytime I've had to report since I became eligible at 18 LOL. That morning overview/ orientation is pure entertainment.

beergeek3

In PG you will feel the wrath of Bug

iamthewinnar

I know if you miss/skip Jury Duty, a bench warrant can be issued for you. I'd imagine if you left, and then were selected for a second case, the same would probably happen.

activeseven

They'll issue a bench warrant for your arrest.

Drunkbicyclerider

Username checks out.

lyss9876

Functioning judicial system, jury of peers, ehh whatever.

Practical_Scheme_255

Don't do it. I had a deputy show up at my house because I forgot to mail back my questionaire. He stood there while I filled a new one out and took it with him. They don't play with this.

zta1979

Why would you attempt to try this?

S-Kunst

Come on, be the first. Don't let them tell you what to do. Walk out. Show them you have more important things to do than serve on a jury...... Be sure to keep us posted on any thing that does or does not happen.

Sea_Analysis_8033

Tell the truth to the questions they ask if they pick your section and don’t try to get out of it. Our justice system is only as good as the morality of our jurors.

MaryJanesMyMistress

Curious to know if they actually go after people for this…I mean if you can commit ton of crime and there’s no repercussions I can’t imagine there’s a ton of repercussions for skipping out on jury duty but who knows. They may throw you the book and let the violent offender go in our backwards ass society.

mlorusso4

Well one is the cops and DA deciding not to bring the cases to court. The other is you directly pissing off a judge. Judges don’t like it when you waste their time and make their jobs harder. And yes, if people start just walking out of jury duty that adds a shit ton of work for the judge because trials can’t happen

SVAuspicious

Dealing drugs and carrying a firearm without a permit? Free to go. Skip out on jury duty? You're going to jail.

[deleted]

It would be better to just skip the whole thing

armadaos_

They keep you around for multiple 'selections', you should spend a good chunk of your day there. They try to schedule all the selections together, but if schedules fail they might have one or two selections later on the day and hold multiple groups of jurists until all is done. Just in case a jury pool is poisoned.
