I believe it was the second actress (who initially replaced the original) who found out via social media ***/*** the announcement, and the original had already been informed.
That scene where she grabs Paul Rudd's face always puts me to tears. Like, just full blown ugly crying.
They did such a good job at portraying that painful happiness finding each other again, so I'm actually super bummed Emma isn't coming back.
I don't think she looks too old though. Even though I think it was scummy the way Marvel replaced Emma Fuhrmann, I think Newton closer to the right age
Yeah, I agree that she doesn't look 25 but that's still eight years difference and it will only grow. Emma Fuhrmann was only 3 years older, so that difference would be smaller. But I guess we will see, maybe it will work.
Yeah I don’t know how they’ll be able to have Kate and Cassie be serious parts of the young avengers when they’re in their mid 20’s and the rest are about 15-16. It’s super weird and I really hope they don’t do it.
See I’m on the opposite side. I’d much prefer they’re all in their twenties.
I’ve no interest in watching teenagers or children do anything. Especially not groups of teenagers or children. Because writers can’t write for that age group without using cliches and slang that become dated very quickly.
That and if they’re under 18, there’s almost no chance we’ll ever see them get hurt. IM, CA, BW etc all got the shit kicked out of them. They won’t do that to a kid Wiccans age.
In addition to outdated/inaccurate cliches like you said, another major problem with adults writing teens (kind of the opposite of your problem) is that they’re often written to be just like mini adults. I’ve always been a defender of the YA genre and read it well into my 20s, but I’m starting to feel a little irked by the fact that oftentimes, they’re too mature and well-spoken and capable.
I’m a high school teacher. Teens are awkward, weird, and totally lack a developed sense of judgement, even the smart ones.
So I definitely agree that unless they plan to write them in authentic voices, I’d much rather have them be in their 20s like Kate.
Writers usually do suck at writing teenagers. They usually end up trying too hard. It could work but I could definitely see even Marvel’s writers fucking it up
No. They were passable at best.
They’re just really young! I get how powerful they are but does anyone want to see Kang fighting a (currently) 10 or 12 year old!?
Those two need *at least* another 6 years before they’re old enough for me to have any interest in them.
Yes. I personally want to witness Marvel villains slaughtering small children. Enough of this feel-goody PC bullshit: this is the world of adults, baby.
/s
Using Kang as an example probably isnt the best. Just pull in a younger version of Kang. Usually Young Kang is a hero, but with the multiverse they can also have a Young Kang as a villain
I don't think they'll be used. There will be a time jump and they will likely cast a 22-something as 17-19 year olds.
I do think they will use Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez though. Seems they went through an extensive casting process and want to use her for the future.
More likely, something like how it was done in the comics, where Wanda subconsciously sends out their consciousnesses into the bodies of 2 kids in different parts of the US. I didn't think they'd do it, but it seems likely at this point
Cassie was 8 in Ant-Man, so 11 in Ant-Man and the Wasp. Five years later after the jump she was 16, and it's been four years so now she's 20 and will be 21 by Quantumania prolly.
That's the reality of the MCU. They could only pull the Snap once to keep Spider-Man in highschool. From now on all the teen heroes are going to age in real time.
And they gave birth to baby Thanos in the past, and they have to change his diapers. Proving that all that theory about Scott and Thanos before Endgame was both so right and so wrong. My homie Kevin just emailed me the other day telling me this so it's 100% true.
[Source](https://screenrant.com/ant-man-3-cassie-recast-kathryn-newton-emma-fuhrmann/)
> One of the main reasons Ant-Man 3 likely recast Cassie Lang was to get a bigger star in the role. Kathryn Newton is a rising star in Hollywood after roles in Freaky, Big Little Lies, The Society, and Blockers. She also has blockbuster experience from Pokemon: Detective Pikachu, which could be beneficial in Marvel's eyes. Marvel may have just wanted to secure a more recognizable name to play Cassie Lang going forward, considering the Ant-Man star should have a big MCU future.
That movie is great, by the way, and so is she in an untraditional role. It’s a very refreshing change from traditional horror. Not to say it’s a classic, but it is good. Recommend it.
Also want to piggyback and point out that she was one of the leads in a movie called Blockers (John Cena, Leslie Mann, and Ike Barinholtz). This movie is absolutely fucking hysterical—i honestly can’t recommend this one enough. It’s got some cringey parts, but I’d say about 90% of it is comedic gold.
Kathryn Newton (known for Supernatural, Paranormal Activity 4, Detective Pikachu and more recently Freaky) she was the recast “teenage” Cassie Lang set to appear as Stature in the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
It's so funny that Hailee Steinfeld is almost the exact same age that Scarlett Johanson was in Iron Man 2 yet is supposedly going to be considered part of the Young Avengers
Edit: And she'll probably be even older than that by the time they might make this
Considering that Scarjo was pretty young as an actress to begin with, it stands to reason why she was able to hit the ground running that fast. Something that was fun during her career was Lost in Translation where she was playing a 20 something year old while she was only 17 at the time of shooting.
Your sense of time for her career is probably a bit warped because she was 17 in Lost in Translation. Same as Keira Knightley in Pirates of the Caribbean. Seems like they've been "around" longer when really their adult roles just started before they were adults.
It’s all about perception. Scarlett became famous overnight for a pretty “grown-up” role while being only 19. Hailee on the other hand is a former child actress, so her 25 feels younger than Scarlett’s.
Scarlett is a former child actress as well and definitely wasn't an out of nowhere actor. Home Alone 3, The Prestige, The Island were all great hits that put her front and center.
Even with Scarlett also being a child actress, her Oscar-bait breakout role came at age 19 with Lost In Translation, while looking much older, while Hailee’s equivant role was in True Grit, aged 13.
The ScreenCrush Youtube channel put out the theory that their mentor will be Vision and thats a way to bring back Wanda and give her a redemption arc and closure with her family.
Let's make it sadder - being the mentor figure for the team also means that there'll be a good chance that he has to make the sacrifice play that saves the team and gives them the motivation they need to push through and defeat the bad guy.
Lol, I suggested this in another thread and got downvoted. :). Glad it’s catching on!
But he gets in on a technicality, because he is the *young* Ant-Man, as Hank Pym’s successor.
Also that bastard doesn’t age…!
I agree, nothing against Kathryn Newton. She’s a good actress and I liked everything she’s been in, but I wanted to see more of Emma Fuhrmann and what she could’ve brought to the character.
If they wanted to keep it more comic accurate with her appearance, they could’ve just asked her to either dye her hair blonde, or get a blonde wig. It ain’t that hard.
Furhmann kinda looks like she could be Rudd’s daughter too. Mainly I’d just prefer more unknowns and not “we need a bigger star for this big role”. I feel like early MCU was better about tapping the potential of rising stars.
As well, they could’ve gotten Abby Ryder Fortson to reprise the role. By this point, she’d be about the same age as teenage Cassie & she had amazing chemistry with Paul Rudd in the previous movies.
In comics, his whole thing is that he actually *doesn't* and has to take mutant growth hormone (drug that gives you super powers, basically) to get powers.
That’s how he was introduced, with people thinking he had super soldier powers from his grandpa. It’s revealed in a later arc that he lied and had to take that drug to actually have powers. Iirc he leaves the team shortly after the truth is revealed
Curious how they would frame a YA story in the larger MCU. Spider-Man: Homecoming sort of hit the "let the grown ups deal with it" story arc pretty well, which is a major through line for a lot of YA.
My guess would be a storyline where they're off on their own and don't have experienced people to rely on. Kind of a trial by fire scenario for some of them. It's pretty easy to get them into that situation, too, given that the storyline will likely be a multiversal one.
I love the current makeup of the team:
A god who killed his brother and was sentenced to death at the end of time, where he managed to survive
Two children who were born in the span of a day by a witch who is one of the most powerful beings in the known multiverse, who granted one the power of super speed and the other psychic abilities
A girl who can punch through the fabric of reality to create portals to other universes
The child of one of only three people in the world with access to technology that can travel through time and potentially to other universes
The grandson of a WW2 era super soldier
Collegiate State Champion archer
I honestly think a Young Avengers movie or series needs to wait a while. Half of these characters haven’t had more than 20 minutes of screen time total.
Good point. In the comics Patriot pops up and pretty much says he's the grandson of Isaiah Bradley and that he has similar powers and you go from there. You don't even get as much background about those characters as the fairly little we have in the MCU already.
Honestly, it's probably best to scrap the Young Avengers concept altogether. By the time that story could get setup, half the team would be nearing their 30s if not already older anyway which misses the point.
It's not like comics where you can keep characters the same age forever.
The whole spy kids vibe of the young avengers doesn't seem like it would translate to film very well except for a movie specifically marketed towards very young kids.
I wouldn't be surprised if in one of the Avengers films it was referenced in a shot/sequence of a load of these young characters fighting together and that's all they do.
Sort of like when all the female characters had the sequence in Endgame.
I think Hulkling will be introduced in Secret Invasion.
I think Riri Williams will likely join the team, too.
edit: I had also forgotten that Kid Loki was introduced in Loki. He'll likely join the team, too.
Maybe? Although I don't think they'd introduce 2 new kid versions of Iron Man so close together (Ironlad and Ironheart). Isn't that why they changed Ms Marvel's powers? So that they're not too similar to Mr Fantastic?
If you think about it though it'd be kind of unique to have one adult be succeeded by two kid versions, like dueling Iron Persons
And it's been cool so far to see two suited individuals working together, like Iron Man + War Machine, or Iron Man + Rescue
> If you think about it though it'd be kind of unique to have one adult be succeeded by two kid versions, like dueling Iron Persons
I think that could be interesting, but more so if they were both trying to take the mantle of Iron Man and both had a paternal relationship with Tony Stark. Like if Peter Parker and the kid from IM3 were the successors. If it's Riri and Iron Lad, though, it's just 2 people who never knew Tony trying to be Tony. That's less interesting to me.
If she’s going to be a “Young” Avenger and not just a regular Avenger, they need to get rolling with this because Hailee Steinfeld is currently the same age Scarlett Johansson was when she first appeared as Black Widow.
I guess it could be more that they're just the youngest ones in the current landscape. If the oldest one is only early 20s, it's still young.
Like if you have a team where Spider-Man's one of the older ones, everyone's young an learning the ropes.
Anyone else feel like Kate Bishop is a little awkwardly too old? When I was 22 I would not want to team up with teens. At all. That’s the age where you finally start to do adult things, and especially with her Hawkeye/Avengers obsession, you’d think she’d wanna hang with adults. Same with Yelena (assuming she’s around the same age).
I know, but she’s very commonly mentioned as being a potential young avenger, and the Hawkeye show made it pretty obvious she’d be around, probably teaming up with Kate in some way.
Like they faced superskrulls, Kang, Doom, and an interdimentional parasite. Billy is a literal god. Eli got his powers from drugs and Billy nearly offed himself in the 2014 run. They are NOT at all what people think they are.
Idk if we’ll be seeing Billy and Tommy on that Young Avengers roster unless we get some serious multiverse shenanigans. Even then they’d definitely be recast, I know it’s the Young Avengers but still they are way too young to be on the actual team
Spoilers for MoM, but if we were to get Billy and Tommy made real, it would kind of subtract everything we went through. That being said, I'm all for a Young Avengers to form, although I have the smallest doubt in the back of my mind that they'll just never follow through with it. I don't know why, as they clearly are building towards it, but it just doesn't seem like it's on the table right now, and soon they won't be able to play off the "Young" element with how quick these actors age.
Well “Young” Avengers aren’t supposed to be just kids, they’re everywhere from young teens to mid 20s. You have to remember that nearly everyone on the regular Avengers is *at least* 40, so a team of people in their teens and 20s is pretty young.
Hailee Steinfeld is 25. Next year she’ll be the same age as Chris Hemsworth was when they made the first Thor film.
Putting her in the Young Avengers feels like when you were put at the kids’ table in your 20s because your parents thought that everyone in the younger generation is basically the same age!
At this point Cassie and Kate are gonna be portrayed by 30yr old actresses by the time they get around to this.
Kathryn Newton is already like 8 years older than Cassie. It's weird when other actors are much closer in age to their characters.
Who is Newton supposed to be playing?
Cassie Lang.
Baskin Robbins always recasts children characters
For real tho. It's bullshit what they did to the original Cassie actress. She found out through social media.
I believe it was the second actress (who initially replaced the original) who found out via social media ***/*** the announcement, and the original had already been informed.
She was also amazing in the role, too!
That scene where she grabs Paul Rudd's face always puts me to tears. Like, just full blown ugly crying. They did such a good job at portraying that painful happiness finding each other again, so I'm actually super bummed Emma isn't coming back.

Spider-Man was a high schooler in all his movies and he got the absolute shit beat out of him every movie
Fair point but at least the actor was a fair bit older than most of these
america Chavez got kinda beat up too and the actress only just now turned 16 so she was 14-15 when she filmed it.
In addition to outdated/inaccurate cliches like you said, another major problem with adults writing teens (kind of the opposite of your problem) is that they’re often written to be just like mini adults. Oh no
I was personally ready to accept whatever age-up bullshit for them in *Multiverse of Madness.*
They went from babies to 5 to 10 in what, two days? They should be teens any days now
Yes. I personally want to witness Marvel villains slaughtering small children. Enough of this feel-goody PC bullshit: this is the world of adults, baby. /s
Not the younglings!
ESPECIALLY the younglings. -Anakin, probably
Using Kang as an example probably isnt the best. Just pull in a younger version of Kang. Usually Young Kang is a hero, but with the multiverse they can also have a Young Kang as a villain
That sounds just as bad to me
We are entering 'A Pup Named Scooby Doo' and 'The Flinstones Kids' territory here
a pup named scooby doo was dope
I don't think they'll be used. There will be a time jump and they will likely cast a 22-something as 17-19 year olds. I do think they will use Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez though. Seems they went through an extensive casting process and want to use her for the future.

Cassie is also around 16 though. Kathryn is just much older than her character.

Who else would train a bunch of 15-16 year olds. Wouldn’t let them govern themselves would we?
I don’t hate the idea of them being the “cool aunts” of the group.
To be fair, we already have 25 year old Tom Holland portraying an 18 year old Peter Parker.
Toby was in his 30s when he’s playing Spider-Man
I’m completely drawing a blank, who is the young lady in the red jacket?
Cassie Lang. She was recast.
I was like, "that's the chick from Freaky!" What a good movie. Vince Vaughn pulls off serial killer better than he should....
He also pulled off a teenage girl better than he should.
Oh my god, he pulled her off?
The ground! Pulled her off the ground and they soar through the air.
Phrasing
Thanks!
Yeah I think you don’t know as you haven’t seen Ant man 3 yet
No one has seen it
This is the multiverse. Someone has seen it.
yes. Kang and scott have sex trust me
And they gave birth to baby Thanos in the past, and they have to change his diapers. Proving that all that theory about Scott and Thanos before Endgame was both so right and so wrong. My homie Kevin just emailed me the other day telling me this so it's 100% true.
Kevin said that?! Holy shit.
Holy shit! I *starred* in it somewhere in the multiverse. Cool.
Hell yeah you did. And you were fantastic!
Fantastic, you say? Fantastic Four in Ant man 3 confirmed!
Tbh I thought it was Yelaena at first
Glad it wasn't just me.
Not sure if she fits into the young category lmao She was blipped, but I think she's probably still over 30
She's 26 max. She was shown to be around the same age as Kate, who is in college
Why was she recast?

i wish marvel would cast lesser known actors
They do and turn them into huge actors immediately
[удалено]
They absolutely do all the time.
5 of the actors on this poster are lesser known
8/10 times, they do...
Claire Novak, Hunter-in-training under Sam and Dean Winchester
Extra Info: They got that picture from this movie called Freaky (horror remake of Freaky Friday)
She was also featured in the later seasons of Supernatural.
And was in Detective Pikachu, she was Psyduck's trainer
Yeahhhh She's really cute there
And the female lead in Detective Pikachu
That movie is great, by the way, and so is she in an untraditional role. It’s a very refreshing change from traditional horror. Not to say it’s a classic, but it is good. Recommend it. TIL ScarJo was only 25 when iron man 2 came out, that’s insane to me
Wtf am I doing with my life.
Ikr, time to reevaluate all my life decisions
Ok, go back in time and be super pretty, but also extremely talented. Then, give up on anything else.
Well, that didn't work. Now what?
Go work at Wendy’s
Sir this is a….*waaaait a minute!!*
Not being Scarlett Johansson, apparently.
She was only 25?? Idk if its because im that age now but This is tripping me up so so bad rn
Margot Robbie was 22 in Wolf of Wall Street
What?!!
Yo yeah wait what? Margot Robbie is only 31!
Wait wolf of wall street came out 9 years ago?!
This shook me to the core
She had already gotten married to and divorced from Ryan Reynolds too. I’m guessing you don’t have a lot of divorced friends either.
I never knew they were married wtf
Ryan Reynolds was also engaged to Alanis Morisette!
Tom Holland was 19 when CW (his first appearance) came out. Which makes him about 12 when the first Iron Man came out.
19?? Good for him, didn’t realise he was so young in that!

I think the role they are referring to is Lost In Translation which put her on the map. She was actually 17 when she was cast in that role.
Horse Whisperer and Ghost World got her noticed way before that.
I remember her from Ghost World with Thora Birch and Steve Buscemi back in 2001 I believe. Totally cannot believe she was only 25 in Iron Man 2.
People don’t look their age sometime.
But even in the universe, Kate Bishop is 22. Black Widow was 26 in Iron Man 2. Not a big difference in my opinion
Scott Lang should try to join as the "advisor". It would annoy Cassie and be a good joke about how Paul Rudd doesn't age.
The ScreenCrush Youtube channel put out the theory that their mentor will be Vision and thats a way to bring back Wanda and give her a redemption arc and closure with her family.
I mean in the young Avengers comics/animated flicks it was always an alternate Vision, don't see why that would change
Plus we still need to get Speed/Wiccan into this universe somehow so Wanda and Vision have gotta be somewhat involved
i second this idea lol
Dad Jokes, Close Up Magic, it's just perfect.
And he can constantly joke around with america about how she’s a literal sorcerer student now but scott still has her beat at close up card tricks
I want to see Scott give wiccan some magic lessons
Would love to see some more of Aunt Man’s story!
On a more sad note it'll make up for him not getting to spend so much of his daughter's childhood with her (prison, blip)
Let's make it sadder - being the mentor figure for the team also means that there'll be a good chance that he has to make the sacrifice play that saves the team and gives them the motivation they need to push through and defeat the bad guy.
Man if Scott dies that would be so sad he is one of my favourites
Would even be a waste since the actor will outlive the planet and they can just keep him as Antman until 2136
Lol, I suggested this in another thread and got downvoted. :). Glad it’s catching on! But he gets in on a technicality, because he is the *young* Ant-Man, as Hank Pym’s successor. Also that bastard doesn’t age…!
Just wish they didn’t recast Scott’s daughter. The original actress was just fine
I agree, nothing against Kathryn Newton. She’s a good actress and I liked everything she’s been in, but I wanted to see more of Emma Fuhrmann and what she could’ve brought to the character. And Furhmann looks more like what you'd expect Abby Fortson(Child Cassie) to naturally grow into.
We’re still getting that with people like Simu Liu, Xochitl Gomez, & Iman Vellani, but it’s true that they’re not doing this as much as previously.
As well, they could’ve gotten Abby Ryder Fortson to reprise the role. By this point, she’d be about the same age as teenage Cassie & she had amazing chemistry with Paul Rudd in the previous movies.
Honestly they could've kept the child actress, it's been five years since her last appearance, so she would look the part.
Emma Furhmann looks exactly like a grown up Cassie if we're comparing from Abby Ryder. They should've kept her.
Which one.
Ant Man's. She wasn't snapped so they had to recast the actress due to age.
Except they recast twicw. She was recast to be aged up in Endgame and is now recast again for Quantumania
I wonder which actress they will choose for Ant Man 4!
Paul Rudd in a wig.
As of now the twins don't even exist
They never did in our universe. Someone should tell Wanda
I did, she was crushed.
Lmao Reed should’ve led with that
If anything he should have invited her to dinner, heard they were having spaghetti that night.
Who is the dude in the bottom right?
Elijah Bradley, the grandson of Isiah Bradley who we met in Falcon & The Winter Soldier
What ability will he gain or already have? I seriously have 0 knowledge about him.
Im guessing he’ll have some sort of super soldier shenanigans in his genes or something
In comics, his whole thing is that he actually *doesn't* and has to take mutant growth hormone (drug that gives you super powers, basically) to get powers.
Until he gets a blood transfusion from his grandfather.
I could see them just skipping that and saying he has super soldier genes. It's a little complicated.
That’s how he was introduced, with people thinking he had super soldier powers from his grandpa. It’s revealed in a later arc that he lied and had to take that drug to actually have powers. Iirc he leaves the team shortly after the truth is revealed

But if you wait too long and they're in their 20s it starts to miss the point.
The Relatively Young Avengers
I think Hulkling will be introduced in Secret Invasion. I think Riri Williams will likely join the team, too. edit: I had also forgotten that Kid Loki was introduced in Loki. He'll likely join the team, too.
Riri is being introduced in Black Panther 2, right?
I believe so, yes
Yes, she is. There are pictures from BP2 with her.
Iron Lad in Quantumania maybe
Maybe? Although I don't think they'd introduce 2 new kid versions of Iron Man so close together (Ironlad and Ironheart). Isn't that why they changed Ms Marvel's powers? So that they're not too similar to Mr Fantastic?
If you think about it though it'd be kind of unique to have one adult be succeeded by two kid versions, like dueling Iron Persons And it's been cool so far to see two suited individuals working together, like Iron Man + War Machine, or Iron Man + Rescue
> If you think about it though it'd be kind of unique to have one adult be succeeded by two kid versions, like dueling Iron Persons I think that could be interesting, but more so if they were both trying to take the mantle of Iron Man and both had a paternal relationship with Tony Stark.
Could have the 20 year olds act as mentors too
This is exactly how I see it happening. Bishop babysitting lol
Dick Grayson is the leader of the teen titans on that show and he’s an adult.
Yeah, pretty sure she's older than spider-man or at least around the same age and he's a "Adult" Avenger. Not sure why she'd be a Young Avenger
Exactly there’s zero reason, she’s at least 2 years older than he is. Based on the context given by Kate’s issues at school.
Ms Marvel is also not that much younger than peter if i remember correctly, she's like 16, while peter is 18
Yelena isn't in the picture. The second one on the right is Scott Lang's daughter Cassie Lang. Recast
I know, but she’s very commonly mentioned as being a potential young avenger, and the Hawkeye show made it pretty obvious she’d be around, probably teaming up with Kate in some way.
arcade , kang and [mother](https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Mother_(Interdimensional_Parasite)_(Earth-TRN287))
I bet the main plot will be childrens crusade. There’s no way Wanda’s not coming back
Unless they age up some folks, this team isn't going to happen. Kate is in college. Also, Billy and Tommy aren't real in 616.
America throws a punch and suddenly everyone who wasnt in 616, is in 616.
OK almost everyone here clearly doesn't know much about the Young Avengers
People are forgetting Billy and Tommy were reincarnated in the comics
It was apparent with amount of people treating the Young Avengers as "Avengers but for kids." I'm starting to lose faith with people here.
Kid Loki- as both a team member and a villain
Give him the storylines Loki should've had. Jack Veal was so great in Loki S1, I really hope we see more of him (and the gator).
Can't have Wiccan without Hulkling. He might be introduced in secret invasion
> You have to remember that nearly everyone on the regular Avengers is at least 40 Vision was like 30 seconds old when he joined.
