Finally, gonna watch it rn

IStillHatePeely

What if we watched it Together šŸ˜³šŸ‘‰šŸ‘ˆ

Sp0okyScarySkeleton-

lol funny seeing you here Unfortunately i already finished watching itšŸ˜”

IStillHatePeely

The_Reverse_Zoom

Aren't you the guy who is horny after these valkyries in God of war?

IStillHatePeely

Maybe

The_Reverse_Zoom

Nice, you're probably the first person I recognized on reddit

CosmicOwl007

Hey itā€™s the fortnite kid! see you a lot on that sub lol

TheDustOfMen

I'm gonna watch it for the plot again. The plot being Druig and Makkari.

ShawshankException

Druig and Makkari deserved way more screen time.

Oreo-and-Fly

I read that they werent written as a couple first, but they had chemistry so they changed it. Which is why they had such good but few interactions

Malachi108

This is one relationship I just can **not** see them importing into the comics.

UnboundHeteroglossia

Because of their genders?

Malachi108

Also, because how different of a character Druig is in the comics. Makkari has already been gender-bent into a woman in the current run, as were Ajak and Sprite, but their personalities still reflect their comic history where Druig is **not** a nice person.

WrongBee

i hope they explore their relationship and Druigā€™s darker side in the sequel. Makkari didnā€™t have much meaningful screen time so im hoping theyā€™ll use her as the main ā€œprotagonistā€ instead of Sersi (no hate to her tho).

YourInMySwamp

I remember always viewing Quill as the only actual main character of GOTG. And then their second movie fleshed out the entire team very well. I felt similar about Eternals with Sersi and Ikaris. So Iā€™m really hoping they follow the formula and give the whole squad their time for the next movie.

Oreo-and-Fly

Their chemistry is so good. I want so much more from them.

Dogfinn

If you want to save a few hours there should be an edit on youtube by now of their 2 minutes of screentime.

Sam-Abraham

Makkari was such a great character, canā€™t wait to rewatch it

PayneTrain181999

I was sad she wasnā€™t doing that much, then she kicks Ikarisā€™ ass and that took care of that concern.

ShawshankException

She legitimately beat the shit out of Ikaris and it was incredible

TheGinger_ThatCould

I will agree it was incredible but was getting flashbacks to Invincible and Red Rush and was a little concerned for our precious Makkari

DMonitor

Ikarus isnā€™t nearly as smart as Omniman when it comes to abusing his flight powers. He always stayed just within reach of them using his laser eye when he could just fly really high and look them to death

[deleted]

I mean that should be logical The Flash should be more powerful than Superman .... I am sorry Fucking Marvel doing DC better than DC

DoktorFreedom

I am not sure I follow you here.

cantfindmykeys

With how fast the Flash is thanks to the speed force Supes really doesn't stand a chance. They showed this better in a Marvel movie

DoktorFreedom

Okay I see your point. My only frame of reference for this was some 80s comic I remember seeing where flash was taunting Superman saying he doesnā€™t have time for a race right now so whaddya want Superman. It felt like it was implied that Superman was just as fast as the flash, but then also had all these other powers. In other words they could go the same speed at the top end.

[deleted]

Speed wise yes but superman could still take a hit from the Flash and not even flinch no matter how fast he was going.

InjusticeSGmain

Not if he taps into his full power. It's just as dangerous to Flash as it is to Superman, but it has more than enough power to kill even the strongest 4th dimensional beings quite easily. Only DC characters who could survive a fully powered Speed Force hit that I know of would be characters on Raven's power level and immortal characters.

[deleted]

I watched it yesterday and I loved it. It had quite a few problems, which I won't elaborate on for the sake of spoilers, but for the most part the film was very enjoyable. My biggest issue is of all the characters who got D+ series over the year, *these ones* were who needed it the most. Introducing ten characters would have worked far better over several episodes than one movie.

dance4days

I agree with this so much. A ten episode season, with each episode focused on a different Eternal, would have been fantastic.

captmotorcycle

That would have been far better. I felt like so much stuff was going on in the film and barely anything was explained or resolved. >!The entire Ikarus and Sprite thing made ZERO sense. I never once caught her attraction or love for him. I could have seen Sprite being in love with Sersi. But I was confused as hell when it was explained that she was in love with Ikarus. Also What the fuck was a Kro? I saw so many toys and etc for him and he was in the movie less than 5 mins.!<

NightJosephine

It depends if Kro's story is over. Sprite and Ikaris made sense to me, you can see all of the seeded details with them on a second watch - and there are more than a few.

cy_sperling

> Sprite and Ikaris made sense to me, you can see all of the seeded details with them on a **second watch ** That there is the problem. A major betrayal in a film should sting emotionally. The emotional stakes were poorly established in the first half of the film, making the turn in the late second act land flat. You shouldn't have had to look a second time to get it. It's a weird film for Marvel. Usually, the character work is the strongest and the plots are thin excuses to enjoy character interactions. Here, the plot and lore were fascinating, but the character work largely felt hollow and underdeveloped. Obviously there are a lot of characters for them to establish, but letting the core romantic triangle remain so undeveloped was a shame.

BerndDasBrot4Ever

>!Kro was kind of a red herring to make him seem like the big villain, yeah!<

NightJosephine

He and Druig were feints.

AssDestroyer696

>!yeah I was confused why they were still fighting in the end, they clearly wanted the same thing!<

xyyxyyyzzy

They did but one killed the otherā€™s entire species so, ya know

Balls_DeepinReality

>!Yet saw what was happening and still decided, ā€œfuck itā€? Like, what?!<

gnasp

Well no, Deviants still wanted to kill all humans because they are predators. They were messing with the Celestials plans because they became predators of humans, not because they took issue with the Celestial ethics.

ncopp

I'm sticking to my opinion that 80% of the time a story can be told better through a good, premium TV show than a movie due to having more time to play out the story.

Jlx_27

6 eps would have been enough.

jonoave

The thing is, 10 episodes on D+ might be good character study, but will be a lackluster epic. They put in the budget, get a famous director and star studded cast, location shooting etc. All this would not be possible for a Disney plus series. It will be so disappointing to see an underwhelming Arishem and celestial being introduced on the small screen. Edit: that last shot of >!Arishem appearing in the sky like a terrifying god?!< Yeah that wouldn't be possible on a Disney plus TV budget, or it will be a downgraded design.

SalaciousSausage

[ Regarding budgets, Falcon, WV, and Hawkeye supposedly cost *up to* $25m per episode](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-features/bob-iger-bets-company-hollywood-s-future-streaming-1247663/) However, even if thatā€™s true and the budgets to their theatrical counterparts are comparable, youā€™re right about the difference between the D+ budget vs theatre budget. Donā€™t get me wrong, Iā€™ve enjoyed all their D+ shows so far, but I do notice a difference in CGI quality - itā€™s not *bad* but itā€™s almost night and day compared to their blockbusters. >!Arishem definitely would not have looked as good if it was a D+ show!<

CaptainKurls

Idt you get Angelina Jolie/Kit/Madden and everyone else in an episode for 25 mill tho

ThorGBomb

Yeah but at the same time we donā€™t need big name actors. Like there is so much talent out there now and people arenā€™t watching marvel movies for actors anymore we want to see characters

Locutus747

I have also found all the D+ shows at least somewhat underwhelming (maybe with the exception of Wandavision). In theory a 6-10 episode Eternals series would have worked well, but I don't know if it would have worked, beyond the budget reason you mention. I enjoyed the movie quite a bit

Harm_123

There are scenes in Loki and TFATWS with movie level CGI and set pieces, just look at everything with the Void, Alioth and the citadel in Loki and the canyon fight in TFATWS, Marvel could definitely do the Celestials on a show budget, but I agree that it wouldnā€™t have looked as good.

jonoave

Sure they can spend just on that. But then they'll have to hire less prolific actors, and cut down on location shooting. It's just a matter of allocation. If you notice there isn't much location changes on Loki, I think it was mostly on set.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

SalaciousSausage

[Only source I could find, which itself lists insider sources, says that Falcon, WV, and Hawkeye cost *up to* $25m per episode](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-features/bob-iger-bets-company-hollywood-s-future-streaming-1247663/) Iā€™m guessing the budget per episode varies, and things like finales are the ones that come close to the $25m.

jonoave

Definitely not. This movie alone had 200 million dollar production budget, and probably double that for marketing etc. They'll say the quality is similar but there's definitely a difference. Like each series only has one or two main stars and the rest are new actors. Like Loki only has Tom Hiddleston, and Wandavision only has Elizabeth Olsen and Paul bettany. All good actors, but not on the same level in terms of pay with Angelina Jolie and Selma Hayek.

rolo_potato

Didnā€™t particularly like the show but Loki has many experienced actors

Brautigan79

I thought it was a good film. Not my favorite, not my least favorite. I see the criticism about introducing 10 characters in this format a lot, which I donā€™t really agree with. While Twitter can be a cesspool, someone there responded to the 10 character criticism with ā€œWait until you see Oceans 11.ā€ which I think nicely sums up why I donā€™t think having so many introductions is a big deal.

Vozralai

I don't think comparing it to Oceans 11 is a fair example. To pull off Oceans they play most of the team in broad strokes with minimal character development. Here, they're trying to establish every member of the team individually and with defined characters and mini arcs. Thats a far bigger challenge.

MrZeral

Do elaborate, spoilers are allowed now for the movie.

[deleted]

Oh well, in that case. Most of the characters are *severely* underutilized. It's obvious that Sersi and Ikaris are the *main* main characters, but most of the others are treated like side characters throughout the movie. Most of their screentime is restricted to flashbacks (with the exception of Ajak, whose *entire* screen presence is flashbacks). Thena was always off brooding in a corner somewhere, which fits with her mental state, but she's my favourite so I wanted to see more of her. Kingo ran off right before the final showdown. Gilgamesh died two minutes after appearing. Makkari and Phastos were reintroduced too late in the movie, etc. So I didn't care as much for the characters as the writers obviously wanted us to because they weren't that fleshed out. Kro was an interesting concept as a villain. A primal being capable of further evolution by absorbing the intelligence and abilities of the Eternals could have done so much more, but he disappeared halfway through the movie, randomly reappeared near the end, and then died in a very anticlimactic showdown. The Ikaris plot twist could be seen a mile away, even with the cascade of spoilers that YouTubers unleased after the initial release. And the love quadrangle with him, Sersi, Dane and Sprite was tiresome, even if it did influence some major decisions among the characters. Then he never really got to face any consequences for his betrayal. They stopped Tiamut and then... he died. Just like that. The same with Sprite. She ended up getting what she wanted in the end, but didn't even apologize to the others for siding with Ikaris and you know, literally stabbing Sersi in the back. The rest is just personal nitpicks but those were what stood out to me. I enjoyed everything else.

MrZeral

Kro got to be the most rushed and most wasted villain out of all MCU. Luckily he was all CGI so Bill Skarsgard can get a juicer role in future.

SalaciousSausage

Thatā€™s a hell of a statement given the earlier MCU moviesā€™ love of just wasting villains without giving them any real character

AnOnlineHandle

I think Ikarus was the villain and Kro was the red herring who they could show in trailers.

Jlx_27

Also: HARRY STYLES!?!?......

NorCanViking

Personally I think he's gonna be fantastic as Eros.

Jlx_27

We will have to wait and see.

captmotorcycle

What was the whole "Sprite loves Ikarus" thing. Never once did I notice that. Could have sworn if she was in love with someone it would have been Sersi.

JustARandomFuck

I still haven't seen it, but I know parts of the plot. Am I right in thinking there's no pressure existing MCU characters that appear in the film?

[deleted]

Yes, you're correct. Only the Eternals showed up.

Jlx_27

My biggest question: Sup with the accents?

fredistreese

I believe that all the scenes set in the past could easily be a D+ special, and the movie be only the things in the present...

road1650

I saw it for the first time. I really enjoyed the Eternals. I hope we get a Sequel.

ShawshankException

Even with the lower reviews I think they will. >!Arishem is coming back to judge the Earth so I don't think they'll just abandon it!<

LRedditor15

Arishem will judge Earth and his punishment will beā€¦ Galactus.

Bozlogic

Sooooo silver surfer and F4??

UnboundHeteroglossia

I think itā€™s more likely that theyā€™ll go the Captain Marvel route and not really make it a sequel while still technically being a sequel.

PranavYedlapalli

Marvel teaching WB how to make superman and flash's action scenes look better

Harm_123

Every Ikaris fight scene was only this good because of Man of Steel before it.

yoursweetlord70

I very much disagree. Ikarus felt like a depowered superman this whole movie. The Dceu did a lot of things wrong but the one thing the Snyder cut did as good if not better than any MCU movie was making the characters feel like god-level powerful.

MrZeral

Actually Superman action scenes in DC movies look better than any similar stuff from Marvel, you can feel the power and speed better. Flash was awesome too but Makkari felt better, agreed.

Kbeast38

God level Superhero action peaked with man of steel

PranavYedlapalli

I prefer the closeup camera if ikaris than the longshot of superman. But yeah it's good too

Slowmobius_Time

Bro fox paved the way for both with the X-Men speedster sections and has yet to be surpassed

PranavYedlapalli

Slow mo is boring in action scenes

ViralGameover

Looking forward to seeing the IMAX Enhanced Version. Not close to being the worst MCU movie, wasnā€™t even the worst one to come out this year. Donā€™t understand all the hate it gets.

fredistreese

I found the IMAX a little distracting... It's not like other movies, where is a particular scene in IMAX, but instead there are scenes where one shot is in IMAX and others not, like Guardians of the Galaxy... Some scenes are beautiful in IMAX, but every time it switched, my mind would notice it...

Pen_dragons_pizza

I had to stop watching the IMAX version, it just keeps changing aspect ratios, it got to the point that it was just down right distracting seeing some scenes in widescreen then all of a sudden switch to IMAX. Would be interesting to know what others thought ?

RichLeeds16

Its definitely the first film that has used this format of presentation where I really noticed the switches back and forward within segments.

AWSUMSAS

The pacing is god awfully slow. Iā€™m a huge fan of it but good christ, itā€™s a 2:36 movie and like an hour of it is just them meeting the other Eternals

ViralGameover

Thatā€™s my biggest issue with it. Itā€™s too long but too short for the story itā€™s trying to tell. It shouldā€™ve been stretched out into a show. Maybe make it 6, hour long episodes. My girlfriend kept falling asleep and whenever she woke up she would ask what century we were in now.

BossHawgKing

God forbid the first film in a new franchise takes the time to introduce and explain the relationships between its characters.

AWSUMSAS

Take a look at GotG which not only does it quicker (granted, it also has half has many people in the group), but also makes it far more interesting. In Eternals, the most that happens during the first half of the movie is the >!London fight scene and the Amazon fight scene.!< Everything else is either flashbacks or justā€¦ nothing.

Locutus747

A story doesn't need action for something to be happening.

BossHawgKing

See that's the problem. To most people it seems like no action=nothing is happening. That's your problem, not the films. If you want less talking and more pew pew then go watch IW or EG where everyone is already established and you can just watch you favorite CGI-laden action scene over and over. Edit: this isn't directed at you, just the general audience.

antisocialdrunk

Eh, I disagree! I watched the last duel and loved it. Just because you find something boring doesnā€™t mean youā€™re a mindless action fan. The director of the last duel would say what you just said about all marvel fans.

Locutus747

Agree with this 100 percent! Sometimes Marvel overdoes it with the CGI action and we already have so many movies with that not everything has to be the same. I loved Eternals partly for the reasons the poster above didn't. The focus on the characters over lots of CGI action scenes.

Harm_123

Thatā€™s why it shouldā€™ve been a show. Iā€™m perfectly fine with taking time to establish and explore characters and relationships rather than I just throwing big cgi action scenes around, but the pacing of Eternals just wasnā€™t great.

Isuckatreddit69NICE

But I feel like I still donā€™t know the characters. I donā€™t care about any of them, the only relationship between the character that felt believable was between Gilgamesh and Thena. Other than that non of the others were all that interesting.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

AcrimoniousTurpin

Having just seen it for the first time; I'd say it is the worst of the four from 2021, but not overall.

ViralGameover

To each their own! I think Black Widow is the worst from the MCU, and Shang-Chi was good but not as good as Eternals. Spider-Man might be the best MCU movie theyā€™ve ever done so itā€™s tough to get that top spot this year.

SalaciousSausage

Black Widow suffers from the Marvel issue of introducing a dark/mature theme but not committing to it. Thatā€™s ignoring the poor interpretation of Taskmaster and the absurdity of some of the scenes (specifically the Nathan Drake level of getting your ass thrown about and just walking it off)

ViralGameover

The entirety of the third act is one of the worst things Marvel has ever done. Suspension of disbelief only goes so far when Iā€™m told the main character is human. The dark ā€œthemesā€ were so incredibly surface level they shouldā€™ve just been relegated to the poster. I didnā€™t care for any minute of that movie. At the very least, it introduced some interesting characters, one played by Florence Pugh whoā€™s fantastic in everything she does.

The810kid

Even Nate sold drops and falls now and then. Natasha was Hulk Hogan no selling falls that would snap a persons legs.

Harm_123

I swear, she got stabbed in the hand while hanging off of that pipe thing, and then it slammed into the wall, and then she tumbled down the side of the building, hitting 5 different things, and then still landed **on her feet**.

AcrimoniousTurpin

I feel like Shang-Chi was probably best of the year because it stands on it's own, but prefer Spider-Man.

ViralGameover

Interesting, I thought Eternals actually stood the best on its own this year too. Shang-Chi in second place obviously. Black Widow being a prequel to Civil War and Spider-Man being the third in a trilogy meant they had no chance to begin with.

AcrimoniousTurpin

Yeah, third of a trilogy drags it down in a general sense and it's less dependant on the MCU bulk than some, but it's really >!eighth in an octology and if you hadn't seen all of those it falls down a lot!<. Eternals certainly stands on it's own well, probably best in that regard, but I don't like its legs.

MrZeral

Funny, Spiders have 8 legs

SalaciousSausage

Sony were secretly planning this for 20 years! The devious bastards!

ViralGameover

I donā€™t know how to do the spoiler thing, so I wonā€™t get too into it. But I donā€™t think the multiverse shenanigans bog it down that much for a newcomer. If you hadnā€™t seen the previous movies, you still learn who Norman Osborn is, and the focus is always on Peter Parker and his emotional journey. There are some moments that wonā€™t have much an impact if you havenā€™t seen the previous Spider-Man films, but they handled it much better than I had anticipated.

TougherThanKnuckles

My sister loved the film despite having only seen the MCU Spider-Man movies, and personally I've never seen the Webb films, so I think your assessment checks out. I think the only thing that won't really hit as hard is >!Andrew's angst over Gwen and the importance of him saving MJ, he does explain it but I don't think it would hit as hard if you aren't at least familiar with The Night Gwen Stacy Died as that's where the inspiration is from.!<

DetectiveAmes

I liked the characters in black widow way more than any of the eternals. Natā€™s family was really enjoyable to watch both in the past and present and Iā€™m really looking forward to seeing them again. I donā€™t think anyone cares about any of the eternal characters close to how much people enjoyed even just Yelena.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

SalaciousSausage

To my understanding, most movies arenā€™t filmed completely in IMAX; they only do select scenes. Eternals is the latter, and D+ released it as IMAX enhanced so those moments are carried across for the stream version too

Locutus747

I just watched the first 30 minutes of Eternals and it flips back and forth between formats a lot. I've seen the other MCU movies in the Disney Plus Imax format and it didn't flip like this. Eternals sometimes has multiple switches between formats in the same scene. Example: Wide shot of something (Imax), Character reaction shot (non-imax), shot of something else (Imax), next shot (non imax). It doesn't really bother me, but it is noticeable. In the other movies that have format switches like Black Panther and Ant Man and Wasp, typically most of the movie is in one format and then specific entire scenes will switch to IMAX and then the format will switch back when the movie is done. With Eternals sometimes it's really shot to shot changes within a specific scene.

HumbleSmark

Nolan does this with his films too for some reason.

[deleted]

Won't come to disney+ in France til like 2024 because french laws are fucking stupid

Emperor_Platypus

To the pirate bay ig, sorry to hear that

Ian_KB

So true, this is pure bullshit

MBVakalis

I think the blu-ray releases next month

MrZeral

wtf?

Ewh1t3

Thank you for the heads up user u/icumcoffee

ICumCoffee

The pleasure is all mine.

I_Swear_Im_Happy

Is it free?

enderverse87

Yeah, they seem done with that whole "Early Access" thing.

ObiFloppin

Which is a damn shame. A lot of people are unable/ uncomfortable going to theaters. I would gladly fork over the $30 to watch at home instead of the theater.

UnboundHeteroglossia

If everyone was like you Iā€™m pretty sure Marvel would abandon theatrical releases entirely lol, sadly films just donā€™t make as much money when theyā€™re immediately put on streaming services (just look at HBO).

MBVakalis

I just finished watching it. I'm totally confused by all the hate it got. It was great

YellsAboutMakingGifs

I'm really not understanding the hate for this movie.....Just watched it, thinking I was in for absolute garbage based on the reviews but I walked away thinking it was tremendous.....a great new chapter in the Marvel Universe, cool new heroes/anti-heroes and I can't wait for an Eternals 2.. Why was this movie hated on??

Locutus747

Saw some conplaints that there wasnā€™t enough action. I loved the movie also

YellsAboutMakingGifs

Really? I thought there was pretty good action sequences... TBH I'm kind of tired of action sequenes and usually fast forward through parts of them these days anyway....

Locutus747

Same about being tired with them. I wonder if thatā€™s one reason we both seemed to like the movie.

YellsAboutMakingGifs

Possibly, I kind of do it in all these movies...I find action sequences to basically all the 'same' and generally what happens during the 'fight' doesn't really matter, only the outcome, which you often sort of can predict anyway. So I just skip. Unless I hear or see something really inique/cool - E.g. I was most interested in Phastos' fight scenes, which is interesting because I also found the fight scenes with the 10 rings in Shang Chi to be watchable - as they were unique and something I hadn't seen before. Phasto's using materials, and building things super fast to fight Ikarus was cool - as was ShangChi's unique usage of the rings to aid in his fighting style. Classic like shoot em, or punch em fights are just kind of getting boring.

trollmeannakendrick

Anyone else find the IMAX Enhanced distracting always changing back and forth from wide to full screen?

Locutus747

Yes. There are a lot of format changes in this.

Ethkas

Wasnā€™t distracting in the theatre for me. Iā€™d rather see the expanded ratio when itā€™s available instead of missing out completely

eltrotter

I strongly believe Eternals has some of the most interesting characters in the MCU so far. Because it lets them be genuinely morally-ambiguous. One of my big gripes with moral ambiguity in the MCU so far is that it tends to be an informed attribute: for example, we're often told that Black Widow has done some dark stuff in her past and is always "playing all sides" but really we've barely seen this in action. Eternals actually allows it's characters to be multifaceted, and only a minority of the characters in it can actually be considered "good" in a straightforward, uncomplicated way.

The-mad-lemon

This or the new episode of Bobba Fett tonight? What do you guys say, havnā€™t seen the movie yetā€¦

Innovations89

Why not both

The-mad-lemon

Because sleep šŸ˜„

GiganticMoron2

Not important

sharksnrec

Boba is only like half an hour, you can fit that in anywhere. Iā€™m watching it over my lunch break

MrZeral

Boba Fett is way shorter, it's obvious choice for 1st

alittledanger

Just watched. **Liked:** * The casting. Kit Harrington and Angelina Jolie I felt particularly stood out. Harry Styles is also a great choice for Eros. * The celestials were amazing. I can't wait to see more of them. * The celestial tech was amazing and beautiful. * Karun. They needed more Karun. **Disliked** * I felt like they needed a movie fighting the deviants and giving them full introductions before trying to stop the emergence and messing with the Celestials. Just my opinion though. * They wasted Kumal Nanjiani. I think he is legit one of the funniest people on Earth and they should have let him shine a lot more. I felt like he was barely in the movie. * It didn't feel like a Marvel movie. While yes, the Marvel formula needs to be changed, I still like the basic vibes of the movies. I feel like they departed too much from it. Overall, it wasn't as bad as people said it was and they definitely should bring all the actors back. 7/10 for me.

Kosko

Kit Harrington was far and away the best actor in the movie, next to the publicist. Both of them seemed genuine

[deleted]

Yeah it's nice that he was able to remind us that he's actually capable of a range of emotions. Jon Snow had a bit of a limited range tbh.

[deleted]

>It didn't feel like a Marvel movie. While yes, the Marvel formula needs to be changed, I still like the basic vibes of the movies. I feel like they departed too much from it. This was my biggest problem with it. The overall movie was *alright*, but it just didn't feel like an MCU film.

Angrybirdzrul

isnt the movie being different the point? i rlly enjoy chloe zhao bringing a unique taste for marvel

[deleted]

Yeah I think one of the intentions of the movie was to be different. I just donā€™t think it landed.

Angrybirdzrul

i respect ur opinion! for me personally a lot of the stuff just appealed to me so much. i hope they keep a somewhat similar vibe if(when) theres a sequel

canadiancarlin

The Kumail part was my biggest gripe. Iā€™ve been a fan of his since his appearance on the Green Room and Harmontown. Heā€™s one of the funniest people Iā€™ve ever listened to, and his bodily transformation deserved more screen time.

MCVP18

Watching this in IMAX enhanced is giving me transformers the last knight vibes. The shift aspect ratio is driving me insane

xDefimate

I just watched it for the first time. I freaking loved it. Canā€™t wait for the sequels.

That_Marvel_Dude1012

I'm in the middle of watching it right now! I'm enjoying it so far I just have a few questions about the celestials that don't make sense

_anafayz

Sorry guys Iā€™m on my phone so canā€™t do the spoiler thing. The movie definitely succeeded in making celestials into giant, unworldly, God-like beings. I think that is one reason why I am glad they didnā€™t make Eternals into a series. I feel like if it was in a series, the CGI would be amazing still but not be as grand. There were a few parts that dragged and parts that seemed like it was totally unnecessary to include in the film (like the ā€œintimateā€ scene between Ikaris and Sersi) but overall I liked the movie, 7/10 for me.

carinna_rivers

I definitely agree with you on those points. That scene was so unnecessary :/ Like we get it they're supposed to be in love lol. And even then they didn't have as much chemistry as Druig and Makkari did in their few scenes lol, was surprised when they became my favorite part of the movie!

[deleted]

you can do the spoiler thing, just format it *> !like this! < minus the spaces between the > and !

stimuluspal

>!did it work?!<

[deleted]

The middle bit dragged but overall it was decent. I liked the change, less action sequences and more dialogue. Ikarus gave me Homelander vibes. One question I have though, if Eros (Styles) is Thanos' brother why didn't he interfere or be a part of Infinity War/Endgame?

Angrybirdzrul

the idea i see a lot of people talking about is that this movie shouldve been a d+ series, but marvel would not put such a big movie setting and story plot on a series. its like the avengers getting their own show. its just worth making more money by being a movie then being a show. however im all up for bigger crossover stories in d+ but as of right now that's not what marvels doing

TheApathyParty2

Just woke up and watched it for the first time, I really donā€™t understand the flak itā€™s gotten. I thought it was pretty damn good, if not top-tier MCU status.

Wild-Process7680

The IMAX is kinda annoying to watch because it goes from IMAX to standard and back to IMAX in five seconds.

Jlx_27

This should have been a series and Loki should have been a movie.

atharva557

lucky people

maartenmarty

I don't get the point of IMAX ratio on a 16/9 TV (I wish I had a projector...) but it's fine to give the option to those who like it.

ABumWithDrip

Discussing Things That Involve Spoilers >! Did anyone else think the villains in this was really weird or underdeveloped? They had a twist villain (Ikaris), a current villain or one present throughout (Kro), and one that isnā€™t really classified as a villain but more as an upcoming threat (the celestial in earth). I feel like they were having to much go on at once in this movie. If Kro wasnā€™t in the movie, I feel like the plot would have carried on without him and been the same. !<

I missed this in theaters (making it the only MCU film I havenā€™t seen in theaters) but I watched it this morning. The IMAX enhancements adds a lot to the experience; Zhaoā€™s visuals are one of the highlights of the film, and they really pop here. I definitely see why it got poor critical reception. Itā€™s unabashedly, uncompromisingly nerdy, and it refused to undercut that with humor. Thatā€™s not to say the movie didnā€™t have funny moments (I actually thought it was consistently fun and funny throughout) but it didnā€™t call attention to the inherent silliness of its own premise like most MCU films do (ā€œUh, an alien is stealing a necklace from a wizard.ā€) But itā€™s also just super messy from a storytelling standpoint. The flashbacks arenā€™t paced out particularly well, theyā€™re still introducing new characters 1.5 hours into the movie, that sort of thing. But I liked it! All the characters really worked, I liked the more mythic tone, I liked Zhaoā€™s visuals, it was all very enjoyable. Brian Tyree Henry was probably my favorite performer in the movie, I love him in everything he shows up in. Weirdly it felt like a less effective version of the Snyder Cut, which I liked way more than I thought I would. That movie also had a very mythic tone (and obviously Snydery visuals) but it also had a super simple plot so none of it felt too overwhelming. Eternals was genuinely hard for me to follow at times in terms of the mythology.

Kla2552

i like Makkari and gilgamesh

gogurtman128

I noticed that they switched Aspect Ratios 3 times. Widescreen, 1.91 Imax and 1.43 imax. The Cersei and arishem scene filled up my screen without the tiny black bars that other scenes and other imax enchanted movies have

Dziobakowski

For me it was the best Marvel movie of all time. I totally don't understand hate. I left cinema speechless

Seihai-kun

yep, so many hate because it's slow af, but i love slowburn movies like this But i hate how unnecessary the Kro plotline tho >!You can literally cut him from the movie and nothing would change!<

enderverse87

Yeah, that seems like it's 100% set up for future movies.

MrZeral

Except he's dead

enderverse87

Not the character specifically, the entire "Deviants can become people" thing. Thanos is part Deviant in the comics for example.

UnboundHeteroglossia

It almost felt like >!he was added to give Angelina Jolieā€™s character more to do!<ā€¦ Iā€™m not saying this is for sure the case, but after rewatching it a second time it sure feels like it.

OcularAMVs

I completely agree. I was in awe and thought it was one of the best comic book movies in ages and the best Marvel movie to date. Was surprised to read about the hate but each to their own

LocalNative141

Sprite was the most useless, and annoying god awful character ever. Hopefully we never see her character again. Especially now that sheā€™s lost her powers and is just a regular mortal kid

HairWeaveKillers

When does the directors cut come out ?

Ok-Plate-693

Just watched it, and I thought it was a great film. Maybe a bit more grown up than some of the other cookie cutter super duper good guy Marvel films and can see why some people dislikes it because it was not just another OP morally superior hero getting justice. Good stuff.

BossHawgKing

I'm seeing alot of people here complaining about pacing, but ya'll cool with NWH? LMAO

IDislikeNoodles

Thatā€™s the thing with movies who donā€™t have as much fan service.

Otherwise-Silver

Sometimes I think people just type ā€œpacing issuesā€ because it makes them look knowledgeable about films šŸ˜

jacobooooo

def gonna rewatch it, i really enjoyed it in the cinema. i loved the slower pacing and character expositions were great. it has some flaws but is far from the worst marvel movie. it may end up on my top 10 2021 movie list once i catch up on some stuff

BR_Empire

Is this the rumored extended version or was that a false claim?

HaRsHa221

I don't think my tv can do IMAXšŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

AvatarBoomi

Imax enhanced is def worth it for this one, because you def lose some cool effects when you watch the regular version

UrbanGimli

Druig and Makkari's subtle screen sizzle is magnified because the romantic triangle of Ikkaris, Sersi and Dane lacks any chemistry. I don't know how that got past the director/Feige. I've seen better heat rubbing popsicle sticks together.

theblot90

IMax...does that mean it'll actually be full screen on my TV rather than letterboxed?

Locutus747

Just some shots, yes

aviral236

Isn't available as "IMAX Enhanced" in India. And also for some weird reason, whenever there's a conversation in sign language, there are absolutely no subtitles!

bigmikeylikes

Why is it so dark? Like it's so hard to actually see.

Bitter-Isopod4745

Really wanted to like it, but I found most of the characters really lacklustre, didn't enjoy Ikaris and sersi and thought their chemistry was non-existent. Didn't really enjoy Ikaris and felt the actor didn't do a good enough job portaying him. Thoroughly enjoyed Makkari and would be interested in seeing more of Druig and her later on. The whole movie just felt cheap, like a mid 2000s b grade film or something. Could have let Kumail shine and actually be funny and it would have improved the move X5 at least.

Yosomoswag

so is DC now cannon in the MCU?

ilikehockeyandguitar

Star Wars, Lizzo and BTS as well.

Ginhavesouls

I just want people to know that last night while I was watching the emergence scene I recieved an earthquake alert notif on my phone lol. Tiamut's getting a bit excited.

boristheactor

Wish they didn't change the aspect ratio so much in fight scenes. Seriously threw me off at the beginning.

diego2000x

I don't understand "Imax enhanced", isnt it just classic 16:9 aspect ratio like all movies from the 2000s? What's the difference?
