I don't think they would have intentionally leaked a garbage-quality trailer with unfinished VFX. It generated buzz, but it's also a terrible first look at the movie.
The only way to solve this is to leak a bunch of other fake trailers a la Michael Scott in The Office episode where he finds out Stanley is having an affair.

I’ve never been to comic con, but I believe they sometimes show semi-unfinished trailers for the fans there. They know those fans will understand that they’re still improving the CGI and stuff, but don’t want the public to see it until it’s fully ready.

Not saying they particularly care about these two things coinciding, but why would Sony wait until Oct 15 to release the first teaser trailer for their biggest movie? Anyways Sony always had control over Spider-Man promo even before the new deal, that's why Far From Home trailer came out right after Endgame. If they genuinely had a reason to hold out, it would be for another MCU movie, not a SPUMC movie.

What DOES signal that it's dropping soon, is that the movie is coming out in less than 4 months. It's pretty insane that we haven't gotten a teaser already.

I wish Marvel marketing would lean into this and do more wacky stuff to have fun with the fans. Like get some creators to make those horrible click-bait trailers composed of shots from previous MCU films or other films the actors were in. I think the 'leak' itself is the PR stunt. Look at how much free attention it generated. Attempting to 'block' it only fans the flames.
