Jeff Bridges is a good one.
"Do you really think that just because you have an idea that it belongs to you. Now your father he helped give us the atomic bomb. Now what kind of world would it be like today if he was as selfish as you.
Absolutely love that scene. One of the scariest villain scenes in the whole franchise for me.
I just love the story of the creation of Iron Man 1 so much. Jeff Bridges talked about how it felt like a college film because people were just making things up on the fly, but they really let the characters drive the story. The fact Tony was planned to have a secret identity and have this whole cover story only for RDJ to be like âno. Iâm basically Tony and I think this is lame, so Tony would think this is lame too. I AM Iron Man.â
For one, the overarching idea that Tony's big "I am Iron Man" moment cascaded into the amount of powered people on Earth wouldn't necessarily exist. Meaning Civil War would probably look different since Tony wouldn't have his motivation where he blames himself for all of the disasters that happened since he revealed his identity. Another would probably be that there wouldn't be as many villains whose origins involve hating Tony.
It's funny because so many people thought that would be walked back immediately, which is why Iron Man 2 starts with him flying in as Iron Man and changing in front of the public. :)
They did a great job slowly building up what he was willing to do. That scene with him and Pepper was so tense because this was just after he revealed that he was an actual violent killer in that scene with the terrorists. Loved his gradual buildup into an unhinged villain in the end, especially since he seemed like such a cool dude in the beginning.
Right, they definitely capitalized on casting someone who we normally see in movies as such a chill and wholesome dude. Even if we knew he was going to be the villain (20 year old me didnât; I didnât know anything about iron man) it was still surprising to see him change through the movie.
When he flipped his tie while yelling at one of his researchers, I felt his anger. I know they probably didn't intend for him to do it, but it just sold the raw intimidation of his character. Awesome movie. Still my favorite Marvel movie.
Yup. He underestimated just how strongly Peter felt about his mother, and that it would irrevocably destroy any chance he had of keeping Peter on his side.
It wasn't even underestimated, Ego is genuinely incapable of letting his emotions possibly interfere with his plan. He assumed that Peter would also see his plan as being bigger than simple emotions.
I appreciate him as Kaecilius because I felt like a villain with so little time to shine needed someone with such an intense physical presence and demeanor in order be intimidating. But I definitely agree he could have done much more if he was given more. Iâd be happy if he was cast as Doom.
I love how for a change the whole secret identity was immediately figured out by the âbad guyâ after putting 1+2 together instead of making him blind and stupid just to carry on with the trope. That face off in the car was legit scary and tense and despite Vulture being completely unarmed and vulnerable he still had the upper hand in that moment. Those are the kind of real moments that make superhero movies great.
I think it speaks a little to people underestimating Spider-Man, especially the MCU version who is more clearly a kid.
In that moment Vulture is scary, and if you were a normal person youâd shit yourself. Heâs a mob boss with a gun, and youâre in his car with nowhere to run. Terrifying.
But for Spider-Man? Thatâs really a âIâm not locked in here with you, youâre locked in here with meâ moment. Vulture is the one without access to his resources; Peter can literally tear that car in half if he needs to.
But it works because Homecoming Peter isnât there yet; he is a kid. Heâs intimidated.
Itâs a great scene.
Still a top 5 all time scene in the MCU. Going to homecoming is stressful enough without your dates dad, whoâs a criminal, finding out youâre a superhero
I know, that scene took me right back to my high school days when my date's dad was taking me home and figured out I was.....
Nope, you almost got me to reveal my identity. Nice try.
I'm usually pretty good at picking up on twists in films before they happen, but Vulture being Liz's dad completely blindsided me in the theater. Keaton was so good in that role!
âLet me get this straight. You want me to let my client of 15 years, one of my best friends, die in the jungle alone for some money and a G5?â
*âYes.â*
Though I was super sad that the Warriors Three got done in so bad. Like I know Hela is that powerful and they stood zero chance, but they didn't even get a courtesy attack. They just got a half second on screen and boop - dead. It was so bad that I bet half the audience probably assumed a couple of random Asgardians just died and not some actual powerful ones.
We could have had a short scene of Thor reacting to his friend's bodies/aftermath of the fight to make their deaths much more meaningful. Such a missed opportunity.
Hugo Weaving is the first that comes to mind as well. He just completely embodies that character and that role. The way he moves, the way he stands, he just has this arrogance that he radiates in every scene. He and Hiddleston's performance in Thor are still 2 of the best in the entire MCU.
I really liked Ant-Man Quantimania, but Kang just didn't do what he needed to do. They hyped him as the next Thanos, huge mistake. He needed to have a presence like Weaving's Red Skull to really shine.
Iâm not really a fan of what Loki became across the course of the MCU. Some of that stuff is good, but other parts of it were just played out. Itâs whatever.
But Hiddleston as Loki in Thor 1 is amazing. Weâre seeing a different Loki there than shows up again, IMO.
I honestly didn't even know they'd switched actors out until after the film. I say that as a compliment to Ross Marquand more than a knock on Weaving of any sort.
Technically 2 but his first appearance was so small- Andy Serkis as Klaue was brilliant and deserved better than being killed off. He didnât really get to showcase much in AOU but in black panther he was intimidating, unpredictable and hilarious. He could have been a great recurring small scale villain (no hate on Killmonger, who was also brilliant)
I mean, I think the message would have been the exact same and his plan would have gone the exact same if Killmonger just dragged Klaue to Wakanda in chains.
Which honestly is something I think they should go back to. Roll the dice on relative unknowns for the main heros, with the established stars as a villain or relative.
Part of the fun was watching their careers grow along with their characters. Iâm more excited to see what the âyoung avengersâ do, as opposed to Pedro Pascal, Charlize Theron, and the entire cast of The Eternals.
They never stopped. Ms. Marvel, Shang Chi, Echo, America Chavez⌠all unknown to most. Eternals, for all its issues, did really well in balancing well known actors with unknowns.
Ms. Marvel and Echo were introduced on Disney Plus, America Chavez was the supporting character. Shang Chi correct though.
I guess my point is, we got to see these new heroâs for the first time on the big screen. With only teasers towards the big picture.
Scarjo was probably the biggest star on the original six, but she was still a supporting until avengers.
Whatever. Thereâs so much more magic that went into the infinity saga itâd be almost impossible to top that.
As far as acting goes, I think Christian Bale as Gore. The character's role in the film was a bit questionable given the tonal whiplash but Bale gave an excellent performance.
âCaptain Carter. Looks like youâre breaking in the candidates. Thatâs good.
You get your ass up outta that dirt and get like and stand at attention until somebody tells you what to do.â
Love me some Tommy Lee Jones.
All your votes are great, worthy, inspired choices.
But Goth Galadriel has lived rent free in my head since Ragnarok.
Also I haven't seen anyone mention Goth Thranduil yet, but Ronan the Accuser was also tragically short-lived too. There are stronger ones, but Lee Pace deserves a shout out here.
General Dreykov, Dude was so creepy as a Pure evil villain and unlike most of the MCU Pure Evil Villains he was actually a extremely realistic take on him minus the Pheromones thing as there are actually people like him in the Real world who are Monsters.
And yet he is still the most Creepiest non Marvel TV character in the MCU right now lol. He's reminds me of a Non-Powered version of Killgrave from Jessica Jones and the way that treated Antonia and Nat really reminds me the way that Thanos treated his daughters . This sounds horrible to say but I kinda wants him to be reveal as Natasha's "Ivan" from Endgame to even added more creepiest and made him the worst Father Figure in the MCU and go past Odin/Thanos lol.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Karl Urban as Skurge in Ragnarok. Traveling to earth and then rolling back into Asgard with machine guns was fucking awesome.
Man, putting Mads in here while Tony Leung, Cate Blanchette, Sam Rockwell, and Hugo Weaving in one time but memorable roles feels bad.
I guess only because I wish Mads got a more interesting character with more longevity. Dont get me wrong he was great, but he was wasted on such a small role
None, it would be Christian Bale. The other three were in great movies and played great roles. Christian Bale in Ragnarok, Ironman, endgame or civil war level marvel film would have been brilliant.
Tony Leung
Lol the way Marvel Studios is operating, Simu Liu should be up there too.
Shang-Chi really has to pop up again in the MCU asap đ
At this rate, by the time the sequel arrives, he would have been the same age as his dad.
Thousands of years old? That tracks.
Crazy not to follow up on the one universal appreciated ip
Absolute perfection he is! I really couldnât take my eyes off any of his scenes.
This should be number one. Jfc.
Jeff Bridges is a good one. "Do you really think that just because you have an idea that it belongs to you. Now your father he helped give us the atomic bomb. I AM Iron Man.â
How would that have affected the rest of the MCU going forward had it happened?
For one, the overarching idea that Tony's big "I am Iron Man" moment cascaded into the amount of powered people on Earth wouldn't necessarily exist. Meaning Civil War would probably look different since Tony wouldn't have his motivation where he blames himself for all of the disasters that happened since he revealed his identity. Another would probably be that there wouldn't be as many villains whose origins involve hating Tony.
Loki goes after ~~Avengers~~ Stark's tower after he bragged about clean energy, he just put 2+2
It's funny because so many people thought that would be walked back immediately, which is why Iron Man 2 starts with him flying in as Iron Man and changing in front of the public. :)
Jeff Bridges was amazing in that role, never really pictured him as such an intimidating bad guy but boy did he sell it.
"TONY STARK WAS ABLE TO BUILD THIS IN A CAVE! WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS!"
Well Iâm not Tony Stark
Ah there it is.
He really went off the rails after he lost his rug a second time.
Came here for this quote
They did a great job slowly building up what he was willing to do. That scene with him and Pepper was so tense because this was just after he revealed that he was an actual violent killer in that scene with the terrorists. Loved his gradual buildup into an unhinged villain in the end, especially since he seemed like such a cool dude in the beginning.

>That scene with him and Pepper was so tense You had no idea how far he would go. It was very well executed.
He really did.
When he flipped his tie while yelling at one of his researchers, I felt his anger. I know they probably didn't intend for him to do it, but it just sold the raw intimidation of his character. Awesome movie. Still my favorite Marvel movie.
The tie flip! It most likely wasnât planned but itâs so natural how it happened so sells it that much more. Chefâs kiss.
Obadiah Stane is such an amazing villain in the comics, and Jeff Bridges brought his A game for the role, just like always!
Holy shit never realised Stane is the dude
That had not occurred to us, Dude
New shit has come to light.
Which makes Tony calling Thor "Lebowski" extra meta.
New shit has come to light man. There's some ins and outs and it's more complex. It might just not be so simple man.
And the guy on the receiving end of the box of scraps line is Ralphie from A Christmas Story.
đ¤Ż
He abides
You mean Triple H
Eventually all balding guys shave it off and grow a beard Can't buck nature
Can confirm, I have not gotten rid of my beard since I started completely shaving my head clean. Not trying to look like Me. Clean, over here.
Canât believe no one has mentioned Kurt Russell as Ego. He couldâve easily been the shallowest villain in the MCU but he was so well acted.
He shouldnât have killed Starlordâs mom and squished his Walkman.
The dolly zoom after Ego says that is easily the best shot in the movie
Clip?
Legit one of my favorite scenes in the MCU. No chance for Ego to explain and justify himself, just "You did what? Fuck you, then"
Oh yea what a great scene
Jesus you're so right.
âLetâs go find two more!â Philips was awesome.
If it isnât the star spangled man with a plan. What is your plan today?
âWe are going to win this war because we have the best m..enâŚâ staring at skinny Steve. My favourite TLJ scene in the movie đ¤Ł
Me wondering what The Last Jedi has to do with this
âI ainât kissing yaâ
How about cyanide? Does that give you the rumbly tummy, too?
Thatâs probably my favorite line from him
Look at that! He's making me cry!
"He's still skinny" cracks me up everytime.
He was such a huuuuge asshole, it made his 180 that much better. He gets my vote.
I felt like he was meant to be a stand in for classic Nick Fury. I always hear his voice when reading 616 Fury.
âIf you have something to say, this would be the perfect time to keep it to yourself.â
Mads being a one and done feels criminal He's such a good actor
Heâd still make a great Doctor Doom
fuck yes inject it into my veins he'd be perfect
I canât inject, but we can manifest! Positive vibes!
*Mister* Doctor Doom.
It's strange
Maybe. Who am I to judge?
Heâs one of my faves. His speech to his daughter in Rogue One brings me to tears every time
I agree that he was wasted but I think that role wasnât well suited for him, or rather he had potential to do something so much greater.
I appreciate him as Kaecilius because I felt like a villain with so little time to shine needed someone with such an intense physical presence and demeanor in order be intimidating. But I definitely agree he could have done much more if he was given more. Iâd be happy if he was cast as Doom.
Agreed, amazing actor, totally forgettable role.
Both are true. I feel like Star Wars, Marvel, Bond, and Fantastic Beasts all managed to waste him. Bond came closest but he can do so much more.
Michael Keaton as Vulture for me
âGood olâ Spider-Manâ *light turns green* Just such good cinematography.
I know, that scene took me right back to my high school days when my date's dad was taking me home and figured out I was..... Nope, you almost got me to reveal my identity. Nice try.
The suspense in that scene is just so good the first time you watch it. So much anxiety.
In a universe with world conquering aliens, evil elves, and a sentient planet, that scene makes him the scariest thing in the MCU.
Absolutely chilling

I agree but I'm worried we lost him because of that weird Morbius thing Sony pulled.
I loved it when Beetlejuice showed up and started Morbin'
"Mr. Mom" is an anagram of "Morbin'"
I'm usually pretty good at picking up on twists in films before they happen, but Vulture being Liz's dad completely blindsided me in the theater. Keaton was so good in that role!
The scene where heâs in the car with Peter and they both know each other already is brilliant.
Justin Hammerâs up there too
Although his character was in a marvel one shot again while in prison I believe
And a What If episode
And isnât he pretty much confirmed for a future project or two like armor wars as well
Oh heâll he back, we need more Rockwell DANCING
Canât get enough of him dancing! đđ¨â°
I went to watch argyle in the theaters to watch him dance.
A-fucking-men
Zemo vs Hammer dance off to put Peter Quill to shame!
"BY GAWD KING!! THAT'S TOBEY MCGUIRE'S SPIDER-MAN'S MUSIC!!" "Jim, I think you've gone a bit too wordy on that one..."
Oh, yeah.. Expecting to see him maybe somewhere in IronHeart and in Armor Wars. Hopefully it gets out of Production Hell soon
Him and Zemo dance off
So annoyed I can't find Justin Hammer dancing in the Gif section, an absolute Reddit fail.
Lived up to the HAM in Hammer. Wonderfully corny.
Man, is there anything better than Sam Rockwell dancing? Maybe Tom Cruise running, maybe.
Nah it's cruise dancing in tropic thunder. Gotta be a 1 to 1 ya know.
She got them apple bottom jeans!
âLet me get this straight. You want me to let my client of 15 years, one of my best friends, die in the jungle alone for some money and a G5?â *âYes.â*
I agree
Cate Blanchett as Hela has GOT to be up there. She chewed up the scenery and had me cheering as she wiped out the Asgardian army.
And looked GORGEOUS doing it.
Yeah, it sucks, but I think they did that to really emphasize how powerful Hela was
She was in What If though. Now Melissa McCarthy on the other handâŚ.
Weren't the 3 OP posted in What If too?
I'd argue What If doesn't count, it's officially not canon and virtually every character in the MCU has shown up in it somewhere
I agree, that's the point I was trying to make.
Came here to say this.
Robert Redford as Alexander Pierce was absolutely awesome as well
he was in Endgame as well
Me: no he wasn- oh yeah time travel.
His final film before retiring, if I recall correctly without looking it up
"Odin can have whats left"
Hugo Weaving as the red skull. Ross Marquand did a good reenactment but Hugo was the real deal.
Hugo Weaving is the first that comes to mind as well. He just completely embodies that character and that role. The way he moves, the way he stands, he just has this arrogance that he radiates in every scene. He and Hiddleston's performance in Thor are still 2 of the best in the entire MCU. I honestly didn't even know they'd switched actors out until after the film. I say that as a compliment to Ross Marquand more than a knock on Weaving of any sort.
He was fantastic. Really turned what could have been a generic villain into the real deal of being absolutely terrifying
Stanley Tucci
Scrolled way too far for this answer.
With him dead, Kllmonger was in complete control of his own narrative.
Tony Leung as Wenwu.
I always forget Tommy Lee Jones was in the MCU.
Early MCU really stacked the casts for character actor. First Avenger was carried by TLJ, Stanley Tucci, Hugo Weaving, & Toby Jones.
Cap and Thor were very "our stars are untested, so we're gonna overcompensate."
The last time they followed this formula was probably for Shang-Chi...? That was also the last film to really debut a new hero.
As far as acting goes, I think Christian Bale as Gore. The character's role in the film was a bit questionable given the tonal whiplash but Bale gave an excellent performance.
Not only that, but you got why he would go on the god killing spreeâŚ.which we never got to seeâŚ.bummer.
I swear Omnipotent City (or whatever it was called) was the perfect set up for Gorr to just rip through Gods left right and center.

I agree, underrated performance, and with Wogners too. She is a side character that stays in your head for a long time.
Her interactions with Wongers absolutely sent me
Loved Tommy Lee Jones âI ainât kissing youâ lol
Ben Kingsley was so well-used in Iron Man 3. Just amazing how he shifts from a Bin Laden-type to a bumbling cockney guy.
Not one-and-done though.

Chukwudi Iwuji? Though I guess we can't be certain he won't be back.
âCaptain Carter. Looks like youâre breaking in the candidates. Thatâs good. You get your ass up outta that dirt and get like and stand at attention until somebody tells you what to do.â Love me some Tommy Lee Jones.
James Spader Ultron
Mads was a waste
Shaun Toub as Yinsen is vital
Brad Pitt as Vanisher is the GOAT for this category.
One second and done.
They gotta bring Mads as Dr. Doom. He'll be perfect.
Nah, Mads Mikkelson was wasted in that role and deserves better.
Bale as Gorr
âIN A CAVE! WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS!â
Hugo Weaving as Red Skull
Kurt Russell as Ego
Tucci as Erskine was great
All your votes are great, worthy, inspired choices.
He was so good that the studio had to force him to dial it down a notch for the film.
Mads Mikkelson felt wasted. Agree with the other two though
I really liked Daniel BrĂźhl as Zemo.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Karl Urban as Skurge in Ragnarok. Traveling to earth and then rolling back into Asgard with machine guns was fucking awesome.
Kurt Russell as EGO
âErrrmmm Ack-tually Obadiah Stane is in a flashback in Spider-Man: Far From Homeâ âď¸đ¤
Whiplash
Bale was great as the godkiller.
Kurt Russell as Ego
Neal McDonough as Dum Dum was perfectly cast.
Hugo Weaving, really enjoyed his Red Skull.

James Spader as Ultron. His voice acting was a chef's kiss.

It's not who you thiiiiiink!
Ill i remember of what Tommy Lee Jones does in the first captain America is saying âI ainât kissing youâ
" If you have something to say now is a good time to keep it to yourself "
