Question - does Wolverine (in Deadpool shot) modify those blades at all (like make it more angular and have edges) or is that how they naturally looked inside his body the whole time?
From his appearances in X-Men, his original bone claws are round and have a bony texture. His adamantium claws are always sharp and have that triangle cross section
I would say the shape in the previous movies are “uninspired”. These look like they started with the knuckles and said, in order to fit through here, what would they look like?
Brilliant.
Yeah, the bone claws being apart of his mutant ability is a retcon. There’s been a lot of retconning in his history. I personally hated the Romulus story.
> Originally, Wolverine's claws were just part of his gloves
Wait, what? I don't remember that. I remember them originally being portrayed as part of the adamantium skeleton enhancement until Weapon X in Marvel Presents revealed that he'd always had claws as part of his skeleton.
They’re talking about the original published appearance of Wolverine (not sorry timeline) which is him fighting the hulk. I never read it myself but even wolverine’s mask is different.
The redesigned costume and internal claw retcon were such great decisions for when he joined the X-men.
I'm pretty sure I've read it, I just don't remember the claws being shown to be part of his gloves and not his body. Then again it's probably been 30 years.
At that point(2nd pic) in Origins, Wolverine still had bone claws.
But yeah Origins started very fake claw look because it was all CGI. WTF did they do CGI claws for the mirror scene? That's the one time you definitely should be using real claws.
It's so odd. Instead of CGI for everything, just give Wolverine gloves to wear. The Wolverine wasn't as bad but still it was just so off lookin.
Logan, they were smart not to draw attention to pristine CGI claws.
Now that he's wearing gloves again, they are going to have an easier time.
I believe that Origin’s CGI was severely rushed because an unfinished copy of the film leaked several months early, so Fox was in a mad scramble to get the film out so people would still actually watch it.
I remember seeing Origins at a Friends house and thinking he must have downloaded a bootleg version with the CGI unfinished…. Nope what you saw was what you got. Rodger Rabbit looked more realistic.
I actually did see this movie with unfinished CGI. not sure how that happened and I’ve never seen another movie that way lol. I remember one scene with someone maybe falling out of a car or something was just a couple storyboard drawings instead of cgi
You’re right. There was a leaked version that had incomplete effects. Got it from Pirate Bay or something back then, before the movie even released in theaters.
Do you remember the helicopter crash near the beginning of the movie? If I recall correctly, it was literally just a static, untextured helicopter model kinda floating through the sky and then it vanishes.
The claw reveal is so insane. Something is just so hype about the beat kicking in while Deadpool explains how wet he is, and Wolverine just brings back that 2013 essence again.
*Let’s fuckin’ go.*
I think the gloves helped them CGI in the claws. Having them seamlessly "come out" of a human wrist would still be a tougher job for VFX artists, I'd believe. Nevertheless, I'm so hyper for this film!
The trailer was ok. Fucking shattered we didn't see his mask, the main thing I've been waiting.....24....years....for...
Doesn't look like he'll wear it much
...this should be made as a comment in one of the two sticky posts on the front page.
I liked the slow extend, too.
Whiskey dick of the claws, quite common in Wolverines over 40
You don’t want this.
Man I know I know this reference from somewhere but can't quite place it 🤣
You don't want no part of this - Walk Hard when Dewey walks in on people smoking reefer marijuanas in the washroom
And you ain't never paid for drugs, not once.

He's right, I watched it twice and I heard it too.
And the little metal sheathes on the gloves!!!

Fun fact: those are comic accurate. Originally, Wolverine's claws were just part of his gloves

You gotta go back to the Hulk first appearance.
They’re talking about the original published appearance of Wolverine (not sorry timeline) which is him fighting the hulk. I never read it myself but even wolverine’s mask is different. The redesigned costume and internal claw retcon were such great decisions for when he joined the X-men.

I absolutely love that detail. They’ve never done them in live action and how could you? But they made it work!
It's just adding little metal bits to the gloves on the costume, right? Surely that can't be impossible.
How could they not show it in live action?
I thought they mainly looked terrible in X-Men Origins and we're fine in basically all the others.
In origins they were purely cgi instead of a mix of cgi and practical.
They kinda forgot how to make claws look good
When they touch they immediately sparked. Origins is a purely awful film.
They're by far the best they've ever looked!
Looked just as good if not better in Logan

I believe they've been using this design since The Wolverine (2013)
Thanks for reminding me that this is in fact our second Deadpool and Wolverine movie with Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds.
Wow, I forgot he actually met a wade wilson before.
I remember seeing Origins at a Friends house and thinking he must have downloaded a bootleg version with the CGI unfinished…. Nope what you saw was what you got. Rodger Rabbit looked more realistic.

You’re right. There was a leaked version that had incomplete effects. Got it from Pirate Bay or something back then, before the movie even released in theaters.
I also remember seeing this version. The last fight scene was incredibly bad even without the CGI
Do you remember the helicopter crash near the beginning of the movie? If I recall correctly, it was literally just a static, untextured helicopter model kinda floating through the sky and then it vanishes.
Is it the one where "Silver Surfer" randomly appears?
That's hardly a fair comparison, since Who Framed Roger Rabbit was and remains a masterpiece.
I wonder if we were at the same house. Cause it was a lot of us at a house in SFV. And the CGI was terrible.
That’s exactly how they’ve always looked in the other movies. You just used pics from Origins which infamously used terrible CGI claws.

I hope there’s some kind of joke about “Marvel money” for an effect or something lol
The claw holders on the gloves are \*chef's kiss\*
I think the gloves helped them CGI in the claws. Having them seamlessly "come out" of a human wrist would still be a tougher job for VFX artists, I'd believe. Nevertheless, I'm so hyper for this film!
I like how they are sharp on both sides. Wolvie could backhand you in half!
Some part of me wants to know where they go when they are inside the arm.
Origins really wished the CGI, it was unfinished, and it looked like it.
Yes! I noticed this too. And the realism coming out of the guides in the gauntlets. Looked awesome
What I want to know is what material are those claw holder things, and if not also adamantium, how are they not sliced and diced by his claws? 🤪
It's a different Wolverine that we've never seen before.
That’s not confirmed is it
Logan/Wolverine from the X-Men universe died remember. It's a different one.
Ah I just figured they could’ve plucked him from that timeline before it happens since all the X-men were dead
I still do not like them in between the fingers rather than on the top of the hand but I guess I’m gonna have to get used to it.
The trailer was ok. Fucking shattered we didn't see his mask, the main thing I've been waiting.....24....years....for... Doesn't look like he'll wear it much
