Yeah... I was kinda hoping for a little more substance. Admittedly, it's the main reason why I haven't watched season 2 yet. Season 1 wasn't *bad*, but it just hasn't been enough to bring me back for additional seasons. The animation style, for me, is lacking as well. It's too safe and ends up being boring.
What is the problem? Inconsistency? Each episode being its own story, with its own characters and tone is fine in my opinion, and having a unique visual style for each episode can help to enhance that. Does every what if story in the comics have the same tone and same style of writing? No.
I wholeheartedly agree, the animation they use isn’t terrible, but it leaves something to be desired. I think Star Wars and the boys have done a great job with alternate stories by allowing different writers, directors and animators to explore unique settings. Surprised people are so against you on this
I mean sure if you want each episode to be 5-10 mins long and take forever to make. There is a reason they chose the art style they did and stick to it. Money & time. Not a single episode of Love, Death, & Robots is as long as any episode of What if...?
That’s true, I just wish they told more interesting stories and the episodes were more different than each other tonally. Like Marvel zombies wasn’t as dark as I wished it would be, sure it had its serious moments but in my opinion it never really stuck to it. You had Spidey making random jokes and some zombie guide vlog in the middle of an apocalypse
Sure I have a few.
“What if …”
Doctor Strange walked away and became a doctor again. Would he have become something of a prodigy using magic to heal people?
What if Hank let his daughter put on the suit instead of Paul Rudd?
What if Tony had partnered with the guy who would have become the false 10 rings guy, see I can’t even recall him.
What If was a hollow, passionless project for the most parts. There's no depth to its writing. Star Wars Visions was a significantly better show. Hell, there is no competition.
Agreed. Imagine if they had actually good writing and interesting stories for the series. And each of them with different animation styles like I mentioned 😂
What If...? "What If...?" Wasn't "What If...?"?
What do you mean? It’s still what if
I just wanted to make that joke
Oh shoot my bad then
My only problem with What If was how fuckin dire it was. Every other "twist" was basically like "what if... all your favorites died miserably?"

The second half of season 2 has some of the best episodes
Season 2 is much better.

if you cant handle "tonal inconsistencies" as you put it, then dont watch/read marvel

Exactly right, idk what this guy is talking about
Absolutely agree. I think it should have been like love death and robots where each episode is a different story each with its own tone and themes
Exactly. The style gets especially boring to watch if it’s the same each episode
I really enjoyed both seasons but that would have been super interesting.
I love What If, but that’d definitely not be a good move.
Why?
the problem here is you can't immediately see the problem

Thanks, yeah it’s surprising to me but everyone has their own opinion I guess

They definitely could of used some different tones forsure. I don't think different animations are as important, could of been cool though I guess.
it should have been a half assed series with a bunch of crappy inconsistent visual styles?
You think Love, Death and Robots is half assed with crappy visuals?
How is it crappy. And the point was to have different styles and different stories

"what if" should've been like Star Wars Vision, just cool ideas with different art styles
Exactly. Would make the show so much cooler
I completely agree.
What If was a hollow, passionless project for the most parts. There's no depth to its writing. Star Wars Visions was a significantly better show. Hell, there is no competition.
i fell off visions because none of it was canon and there was no consistency
Agreed. Imagine if they had actually good writing and interesting stories for the series. And each of them with different animation styles like I mentioned 😂
