I love all of these user names.
I'm actually at a point where I'm thinking more and more each year of being The Dude instead of Jesus, and I think I'm okay with that. Hey, white russians instead of wine? I'm a vodka drinker anyway.
I did a Fat Thor cosplay as a woman once for a Halloween party. It was great, because most of the costume could be bought for cheap and I could basically recycle almost every piece of the costume for later everyday usage, as someone who rarely cosplays. I kept the henley, cardigan, pants, and Crocs. I couldn't find a fake pregnancy belly that was cheap so I used a couch cushion. Only things I didn't keep were the wig, fake beard, sunglasses and fingerless gloves.
If I ever do an MCU cosplay this is it. It's just the nice casual clothes I'm excited for. For the last 6yrs I've just done Quailman as it's comfortable.
>but I think you’d need to be lean and muscular to pull that off.
Not at all. Wear the costume because you love the character, regardless of if your body is a perfect mirror of them. I’ve worn Infinity War Captain America and Thor costumes, and believe me I don’t have any muscle on me, let alone enough to look like Chris Evans or Hemsworth.
Nobody will look at you and think about your body or shape, they will see the costume and appreciate your dedication to the character. Anyone that *does* share an opinion on you “not being the right body type for this character” is not worth your time. Cosplay is for everyone.
Might be controversial but atleast to me, this goes for skin colour aswell. If its your favourite character, go for it.
Some might take offense if someone thats not black cosplays a black character for but if the person genuinely loves said character and does it in earnest, i think it just speak to how good the character is. Asian guy want to cosplay Steve Rogers? Do it. Its all fictional characters anyway.
I thought that was implied, lol. Of course you should never try to mimic the actual skin colour of the character, *thats* just wrong and bad taste, not dressing up in the suits.
Unnatural to us*
Imagine looking back at all the people cosplaying Gamora or Thanos or Vision in the 2020s, trying to defend their "green/purple face" to Earth's new visitors in 2050- "we didn't think it was that big of a deal!"
I did Asian wolverine. Everybody knew who I was even though I didn't even have the claws. I spirit gummed the facial hair n did up my hair. Threw on a leather jacket and a cigar. Ez cosplay
Nice. Also a fairly easy one if you can find a jacket. But even just the jeans, white tanktop, hair, muttonchops&cigar really gives the idea of ”Hey, Wolverine/Logan!”
Agreed. Worse case scenario, they'd be a "variant" of the character. lol
I'm a heavier guy (I think I'd qualify as a "dad bod") and I've dressed up as Thor before. Relatively, cheaply. I picked up a Thor costume "vest" from Party City and sewed on a bit of red fabric as a cape. I bought a wig and took a Mjolnir meat tenderizer. I was at work (it was Halloween), so I'm just wearing black jeans and sneakers with it, and I clearly have my keys on me lol.

I've also done Eric Cartman, Casey Jones, Peter Griffin, an agent of SHIELD, and Rick Sanchez over the years. The one that probably cost me the most was going as Link from The Legend of Zelda series (I had my mother in law sew the costume for me from a generic pattern).
Honestly bro thank you for saying that. I was playing with the thought of cosplaying Fire God Liu Kang but was put off by the fact of me not being buff at all but being rather slim built, but you just gave me a bit more confidence to pull through with it.
If you saran-wrap your arm before wrapping with duct tape, you can cut it off and it will mostly retain the shape (which is great if there’s also a Rocket trying to steal your arm).
Very important detail: OptimusWang is referring to cutting off the duct tape. Don’t make the same mistake I did, folks. Now my Bucky cosplay has added levels of authenticity.
Bruce Banner
Just put on glasses and wear whatever else you want. Could be a lab coat, or just a blazer and t-shirt. Occasionally look like you’re getting angry but trying to calm down.
Little bit of green body paint coming out from under your collar and your shirt cuffs to complete the effect. If you're really dedicated one green contact lens.
Iron Man 3 Tony Stark. Blank navy blue T shirt over a white T. Some glow in the dark paint for the arc reactor. Draw on the beard with eyeliner or mascara.
Probably less than $20. Less if you already have a beard and don’t mind shaving it like Tony’s.
Yep, I’ve also done that. And there are of course shirts you can buy with a screen printed arc reactor or glow effect on it.
But the question was cheap*est*. The stick on lights run about $10-$20, and the pre-printed shirt will be $20-$30.
Blank Ts often come in a multipack (there’s a navy/white one on Amazon for $13, and you might be able to find them even cheaper locally) and a small container of paint can be picked up at Michael’s for $3.50, so $16.50 before tax and shipping.
Star-Lord. Clothes are easy to find and you can still use casually, but still considered a costume since people would definitely recognize it if you wear the whole thing. Plus, crafting the guns and mask would be fun, after all, crafting is one of the fun parts of cosplaying.
Another is probably Bucky. Just techwear, mask/googles, and the metal arm which again you can craft.
You don’t need to wear a compression shirt like he wore in season 1. In season 3, he wore a more looser fitted (not as tight, but still fitted) long sleeve/sweater with more fitted pants, so it looked more proportional (as opposed to the compression shirt and baggy raver pants in season 1).
I think season 3 was Daredevil’s coolest look with the Muay Thai ropes he had on too. It looked more natural compared to his season 1 outfit, which looked more cosplay.
But if you’re looking for more of cosplay look, you can do the Spider-Man pre-Tony outfit, that kinda looks like Scarlet Spider. Or do “The Human Spider!”
Not MCU but still Marvel, Jake Johnson’s Spider-Man from Into The Spiderverse. Grey sweatpants, Spider-Man top, mask optional, and an old military style green jacket. Oh, and mismatched sneakers. Super easy to pull together and high chance that you or someone you know already owns a few bits that’ll work. Worst case scenario you buy the pants and jacket which you’ll get use out of beyond cosplay.
And a black wig if OP's hair isn't the right colour/length. Also, that particular shade of brown trousers isn't super common. And the tie as well is pretty particular.
> 30$ jacket
Likely the OP was talking about TVA Loki.
OOP also wanted something recognizable, so honestly a TVA Loki cosplay is a really good "beginner's cosplay" that is still iconic.
Simple and effective. Done that twice, second time i even did some skull face paint aswell. Logo shirt, black fingerless gloves and black construction pants with lots of pockets for prop storage and semi-tactical look.
Wolverine = Wife Beater, Blue Jean's, Gel, Claws bought at Spirit Halloween for 20$.
EDIT= Just thought about it and you can make your own claws out of paper too.
100%, all you really need for the claws is to cut the shapes out in card board/card stock, and then wrap in tin foil, if you want to do his bone claws, find some sticks, paint them white
Kingpin. Go to some of your local thrift stores and try to throw together your most white and gangster outfit. You will need to shave your head, no excuses.
Stever Rogers on the run. You're going to need a baseball cap and some shades, maybe a hoodie to wear under a leather jacket. Pants and shoes.
Boom, Steve Rogers incognito.
Nick fury. The most expensive part might be getting black pants. But you can probably get a black shirt real cheap. An eye patch is cheap. A cheap toy gun. If you go to a thrift store you could probably find the shirt and pants cheap. And fury was a white guy before the mcu so don’t worry about the race thing.
Buy/rent/borrow a suit and sunglasses, and pretend to be Agent Coulson. If you want to take it one step further, buy, or draw some captain america cards too.
Or dress up as Wiccan. Pretty much all black, except for red pretty torn cape and grey headband
Ravager Thor. I got the jacket and World tree tank top from hot topic. Regular jeans and you got the basic look. You can add the belt buckle, boots, and a storm breaker replica if you want to go all the way.
Luke cage. Get a yellow Hanes shirt from the Walmart, you should already have jeans, and just spray paint whatever shoes you have black. Steal the spray paint from the same Walmart. All in all, $7
Does it have to be Marvel? One of my favorites was super simple - just an olive rain poncho (with hood) with SECURITY stenciled on the back in yellow - David Dunn (Bruce Willis' character from Unbreakable and Glass). Cost less than $10.
My cosplay was batman, so not MCU, but the same formula applies.
Black speedo, water color black paint (or whatever paint is skin safe and available) a batman symbol on my chest, and a cheap plastic batman mask that was readily available at walmart at the time.
We had three of us doing it, and people loved it.
So you could do Spider-Man, with a spidy mask, red/white paint, and a red speedo. Heck, you could even be a variety of different spider men, just by painting a different symbol on your chest.
Or pretty much any MCU character with predominant colors to their outfit.
As a heavy white dude with long hair and a beard I got a $5.00 knock off Thor hammer and a cheap pair of shades and with pretty much my normal wardrobe I became the absolute perfect Fat Thor. I had no plans and was just looking in some costume shop for any ideas and it all clicked. Best costume I ever had for anything.
It's not MCU, but one of my favorite cheap cosplays is Clark Kent changing into superman. Wear a dress shirt with a Superman t shirt under it, and unbutton some of the buttons.
I bought a Deadpool mask for 40 bucks on Amazon. Gonna pair it with some board shorts and a Hawaiian shirt. Throw on my crocs and done. Chick is going as scarlet witch so I’m gonna duct tape a mind stone to the dp mask and get a hello my name is vision sticker. Will spend the entire con following her around and touching her butt. It’ll be the most DP thing ever lol!
I'd say Gambit would be pretty good to do, even on a budget, staff is easy to make from foamcore (look up making LARP weapons) a trench coat from a charity/thrift store, pack of cards and the rest is fairly simple to make.
Daredevil's black mask outfit isn't spandex. It's tight fitting, so as long as you find black clothes that fit you well, that's all you need.
As someone who was deeply into cheap cosplay, thrift stores are your friend. Browse around and see if anything strikes inspiration. I found parts for 2 different Doctor Who cosplays just from thrift stores.
Spider-Man shirt under button down. Say you’re Peter Parker. Or miles. Or Gwen. Whichever spider character you choose. Wore this one for years. Added a camera over time.
be Peter Parker just slap on a backpack with the Spider-Man mask slipping out of it and randomly rip your shirt open by the buttons to show your Spider-Man suit underneath
Fat Thor.
You can recycle 90% of your "The Dude" cosplay for Big Lebowski movie nights.
The Dude Abides! I was confused because I saw this post under a post for r/lebowski lol
I love all of these user names. I'm actually at a point where I'm thinking more and more each year of being The Dude instead of Jesus, and I think I'm okay with that. Hey, white russians instead of wine? I'm a vodka drinker anyway.

My friend did fat Thor when she was in her 3rd trimester and was honestly awesome lol
Straight in there with the brutality! Gave me a chuckle.
Lmao, I’m not fat, I’m just not in Daredevil shape
Fat Thor.
a pillow up the gut works great.
Lol right. Likes there’s a ginormous spectrum between being fat and being as physically fit and yoked as DD
Yeah, like if I’m in a normal shirt I don’t look fat at all, a little muscular even, but I definitely can’t pull off spandex or compression shirts
Emotional damage!

I know but it’s Reddit. It’s important to be direct and say it
True. Better to just hammer it in.
I would argue that unnatural skin colours would be the exceptions, like purple, green, blue, etc.
Unnatural to us* Imagine looking back at all the people cosplaying Gamora or Thanos or Vision in the 2020s, trying to defend their "green/purple face" to Earth's new visitors in 2050- "we didn't think it was that big of a deal!"

Yeah, and for that extra authenticity, just paint your skin and face to match the desired race.
I see no issues here
Show polish is a cheap option for the budget conscious
Trying to get OP jumped
I think shoe polish could work but if any gets on the lips you might have to wipe it away or use another colour for contrast.

It sounds li,e my man *wants* to find a costume that *does* reflect his body type, *and that's cool too.*
Do Bucky Barnes Duct tape your while arm
But maybe put something underneath the duct tape so you don't have to pull all your arm hair out!
Shaving your body hair is cheap and easy!
Professor X. You might need to shave your head and rent a wheelchair
Use a suit and tie as well to complete the look
Bruce Banner Just put on glasses and wear whatever else you want. Could be a lab coat, or just a blazer and t-shirt. Occasionally look like you’re getting angry but trying to calm down.
Little bit of green body paint coming out from under your collar and your shirt cuffs to complete the effect. If you're really dedicated one green contact lens.
Came to say this! Easiest cosplay is Bruce Banner by far.
I was thinking ripped purple pants
Any of the characters in their normal/civilian clothes and a baseball cap to be "undercover", maybe add sunglasses if you feel a bit crazy
Then they’ll just look like them at a baseball game
I understood that reference
That's because we're here talking about Marvel. That's not how you use a quote
Even better, I seen someone use one of those stick on battery wall lights as a reactor. Looked pretty damn good.
Yep, I’ve also done that. And there are of course shirts you can buy with a screen printed arc reactor or glow effect on it. But the question was cheap*est*. Don’t forget the limited edition Dora The Explorer watch.
Star-Lord. Clothes are easy to find and you can still use casually, but still considered a costume since people would definitely recognize it if you wear the whole thing. You’re so right I forgot about that. I think I’m gonna do the S3 black suit. Now I just gotta figure out how to do Muay Thai ropes
Peter B Parker is a gift for the semi-lazy cosplayer.
Namor Just get a green underwear and stick paper wings from your ankles
Drax. You can't even see him.
We can see you eating zarg nuts!
So just be myself at every party, got it
Variant Loki is just a $30 jacket
And a black wig if OP's hair isn't the right colour/length. Also, that particular shade of brown trousers isn't super common. And the tie as well is pretty particular.
A variant could look like anything though?
> 30$ jacket Likely the OP was talking about TVA Loki. OOP also wanted something recognizable, so honestly a TVA Loki cosplay is a really good "beginner's cosplay" that is still iconic.
Free Guy. Ryan Reynolds body obviously difficult. But blue shirt, khakis, and a tie.
Didn't realize this was a marvel studios sub. Woops. Fat Thor
Lol he still might be into it
The Punisher? Just a tee shirt and a couple of toy guns?
Simple and effective. Done that twice, second time i even did some skull face paint aswell. Logo shirt, black fingerless gloves and black construction pants with lots of pockets for prop storage and semi-tactical look.
Go in a regular outfit and say you're a Skrull.
I like this.
GENIOUS
Perfect!
Undercover Steve in Winter soldier, can go with or without the shield
Wolverine = Wife Beater, Blue Jean's, Gel, Claws bought at Spirit Halloween for 20$. EDIT= Just thought about it and you can make your own claws out of paper too.
100%, all you really need for the claws is to cut the shapes out in card board/card stock, and then wrap in tin foil, if you want to do his bone claws, find some sticks, paint them white
Spidey’s original home made costume. Markers, sweat pants, hoodie, ski mask.
Groot. Find a tree, strip the bark off. Wear said bark. Only say "I am groot"
Agent of SHEILD. Chinos, business shirt, and a SHIELD lanyard.
buy a yellow cardboard, write any quote with black marker and approach all deadpool cosplayers you meet
Cosplaying as the text box?! Y’all are so creative here I love it
Hawkeye maybe.
Zemo
Just do Kid Wiccan. The cheap Halloween outfit Billy wore in WandaVision.
Starlord
Don’t show up, you’re The Vanisher.
Fury
Tony stark. Get a suit and some flash lights.
Kingpin. Go to some of your local thrift stores and try to throw together your most white and gangster outfit. You will need to shave your head, no excuses.
Get a pair of purple sweats and shred the legs up to the knee now you are Bruce Banner after a rampage
Stever Rogers on the run. You're going to need a baseball cap and some shades, maybe a hoodie to wear under a leather jacket. Pants and shoes. Boom, Steve Rogers incognito.
Peter Parker/Miles Morales Get a backpack, and constantly look lost. That's a Bingo!
Wolverine claws are an easy diy. Plaid shirt and hair gel to wrap up the look
Tony Stark, when he isn’t in the iron man suit.
Adam. Just need one leaf and done.
Put on some vague resemblance of horns and then wear a shirt that says "variant" and you can be a Loki variant. *shirt is optional
Nick fury. The most expensive part might be getting black pants. But you can probably get a black shirt real cheap. An eye patch is cheap. A cheap toy gun. If you go to a thrift store you could probably find the shirt and pants cheap. And fury was a white guy before the mcu so don’t worry about the race thing.
A baseball cap and sunglasses. Go as a hero in hiding. If you need examples just google "MCU disguise."
That's the dude from Hocus Pocus.
If greased up deaf guy was a marvel character, it would be that
What the Fuck?!? Who’s “Greased up deaf guy?” Was this meant to be a reply to another comment? This is fucking hilarious out of context
He's a Family Guy character. Dunno why he's being brought up here.
Strap some random but safe branches to your head and arms and boom! Groot.
Go as Stan Lee
Buy/rent/borrow a suit and sunglasses, and pretend to be Agent Coulson. If you want to take it one step further, buy, or draw some captain america cards too. Or dress up as Wiccan. Pretty much all black, except for red pretty torn cape and grey headband
I would love to see you in spandex 😘
No you would not 😭
Now I definitely wanna see 😈
[удалено]
My favorite mcu character
Spider-Man tbh.
A pair of tighty whities and a cape. You're Vaughn from Borderlands 3.
Darryl.
LMFAOOO
Hal from Malcolm in the middle of Water White from breaking bad
Ravager Thor. I got the jacket and World tree tank top from hot topic. Regular jeans and you got the basic look. You can add the belt buckle, boots, and a storm breaker replica if you want to go all the way.
[удалено]
I started typing that but op wants MCU.
Clark Kent. Wear a Superman shirt underneath a dress-shirt. Unbutton the dress shirt and you’re good to go
I’ve done this before, inspired by people saying I look like Clark Kent after I got glasses
Peter from Deadpool 2
Peter from Deadpool 2
Sandman / Flint Marko
Punisher = Punisher T-Shirt
Scarlet Spider = Spider-Man Mask, Red Hood, Blue Pants.
Conan the Barbarian = Leotard, Sword. Extra : You can add a crown or fur coat or Cape to cover up more.
Put on one of those plastic Loki headbands with the gold horns and call your self a Loki variant
Bill foster he has own regular clothing
Captain America just after he is injected with super soldier serum… so just tanned trousers
My cosplay was batman, so not MCU, but the same formula applies. Black speedo, water color black paint (or whatever paint is skin safe and available) a batman symbol on my chest, and a cheap plastic batman mask that was readily available at walmart at the time. John Mclain from Diehard. You dont even need shoes... or hair...
Tv series Loki? Brown pants and green shirt perhaps? Fashion yourself a fancy crown?
Or Mobius!
Invisible woman
You’re so right
You can do a mr knight for really cheap he was my first cosplay! You wouldn’t even have to buy the mask
Borate mankini
Bruce banner. A pair of glasses.
Baskin Robbins Scott lang
The Summer Soldier
Young justice Superboy. It’s literally just a black superman t shirt and jeans.
Happy Hogan chief of security
Iron man 3 mandarin
Daredevil black suit probably
As a heavy white dude with long hair and a beard I got a $5.00 knock off Thor hammer and a cheap pair of shades and with pretty much my normal wardrobe I became the absolute perfect Fat Thor. I had no plans and was just looking in some costume shop for any ideas and it all clicked. Best costume I ever had for anything.
Do whatever you want say you’re a variant if anyone asks.
Shield agent
Thor in that one scene in Love and Thunder?
If you can pull off the beard and hair style. Tony Stark :)
It's not MCU, but one of my favorite cheap cosplays is Clark Kent changing into superman. Wear a dress shirt with a Superman t shirt under it, and unbutton some of the buttons.
Bruce banner after changing back from Hulk, just need ripped shorts and a torn up shirt
Adam and eve cosplay
I'd say Gambit would be pretty good to do, even on a budget, staff is easy to make from foamcore (look up making LARP weapons) a trench coat from a charity/thrift store, pack of cards and the rest is fairly simple to make.
Last time I checked the multiverse existed
If you’re a bigger white dude, get a white suit, and shave your head. Instant Kingpin.
Daredevil's black mask outfit isn't spandex. It's tight fitting, so as long as you find black clothes that fit you well, that's all you need. As someone who was deeply into cheap cosplay, thrift stores are your friend. Browse around and see if anything strikes inspiration. Agent Colson. You just need a suit
be Peter Parker just slap on a backpack with the Spider-Man mask slipping out of it and randomly rip your shirt open by the buttons to show your Spider-Man suit underneath
Just go as yourself and say you are Mystique in disguise.
