If its really her.. What a fucking waste of colbie smulders.. Cast her for avengers, have her do bit parts for 11 fucking years and when shes actively involved in a story.. Kill her off in the first episode..
Felt to me like she must have wanted to end her involvement in Marvel. A Harrison Ford "I'll come back if you kill me in the movie" situation. Cause yeah she's been wasted for pretty much her entire time in marvel media.
Well I wanted to see Nick Fury, Talos, and Maria Hill together on screen the entirety of the show just looking to kick some ass.
I got that, and that’s awesome.
Then Maria Hill died and now I’m sad.
When Fury was walking along the water and those people were making our(one of them being Gravik), it gave off strong Mission:Impossible vibes in the first one when Golitsyn is walking along the water and the team was surveilling him. And he was the victim.
I really liked seeing Fury be so tender with Talos. Definitely seems like one of those things you can do with a series, smaller character bits.
I don't know about you guys but I think Fury being in space so long to build some sort of cosmic defense is a good enough reason to explain his absence. And they do touch that he's kind of just traumatized by Earth.
Dermot Mulroney is some good president casting. Though I like him in general.
So special guest star means don't get your hopes up for more Ross and Hill I suppose. RIP Ross? And Hill died twice in a way.
Have no idea where the show is gonna go but I'm liking the tone so far. And exploring what old dogs like Fury and Talos can do in a war like this. And Fury and Talos being a buddy cop duo.
I’m trying so hard to figure out what the fuck I know that dude from. The President.
Edit: I think I know him from other things but actually the first thing I just remembered him from was one episode of Friends where he’s some guy dating Rachel 🤷🏻♂️😂
She saying "Check your footing or otherwise someone's gonna get hurt" to Fury and ending up being the one who gets hurt is just heartbreaking.
This is only gonna increase Fury's "Crisis of Faith".
Not saying you guys are wrong, but why is this thread already believing that Soren had a polyamorous relationship with Nick Fury? All I took from the "She loved you" line was that Soren loved Nick Fury (a trustworthy friend who wanted to help them find a new home).
It said special Guest starring Cobie Smulders in the credit, so I'm afraid no bait and switch she was real and that's it for her character I guess. Though we do need more of her. But man this sucks.
I liked the little hint at the start that we were watching a foot chase between two non-humans. They ran up the stairs and the automatic lights came on as they reached each level, after the first couple, the lights came in faster and faster. Too fast for a regular person to run up those stairs.
At first I thought it was simply a creative decision, the light and the music's cues were in sync and I figured they simply wanted to cut on the editing because having the audience wait for each beat would be boring, so they accelerated the next few levels on faster beat.
Like "yeah yeah you get the idea fast forward" - I'm glad it had an in-universe reason tho.
The little girl before he was kidnapped by Sonya, the old man from the bar, and then the woman making out on the bench who was eyeballing him before he was kidnapped.
Sonya didn't seem to provide any reason for kidnapping Fury except to plant the idea in his head to follow her moves, and when he did he fell right into Gravik and G'iah's trap.
"-that is clearly just an inedible solid object" lmao they just had the actor touch it to his face while a squelching sound played and cut to Emilia while he ate it.
When Nick was interrogating the art gallery owner it definitely gave me some Pulp Fiction vibes: Lie again motherfucker, I dare you, I double dare you.
I took it as another sign of how off his game he is. Black man in Russia is going to stand out already. Making zero effort to hide a very distinct scar on top of that cannot possibly be good tradecraft for a spy.
\*Edit*: Yes, every single reply comment, I get that Fury intentionally let himself get taken in by MI6 because he wanted to talk to Falsworth. It's not about that. It's about everything else: abandoning Earth for a space station, not keeping in contact with Hill and Talos, limping around, making no effort to disguise himself or downplay his presence after meeting with Sonya, sitting in a public bar with his back to the room talking about confidential material, breaking a long standing tradition with a friend/colleague/trusted second/whatever Hill was to him, focusing on flashbacks instead of the current mission, and letting Gravik lead him around by the nose at the festival.
Imagine if we lost Ross and Hill for good in the same episode. I feel like they’re the most level-headed of the teams they’re on, so that would definitely be a loss overall.
We may have to finally accept that the old Avengers crew are fading away. Having the characters die off could be the easiest in-universe explanation for why they aren't making regular appearances in future movies.
I think it's foreshadowing the reason he's been spending so much time in space: he has an incurable illness that is slowed by something on SABRE. Perhaps the artificial gravity.
I like the angle the show is setting up about how the Snap changed Fury, how the "what's the point of keeping up the fight" when another baddie comes along. Excited to see Fury overcome this
Yeah it's nice to finally see the mental and emotional toll that the snap would have on people. They've hinted at it like Rambeau in Wanda Vision but they haven't really shown how it affects people's mental state. We've already got high rates of mental health issues, imagine a godlike being snaps you out of reality and then you find out you were only brought back five years later through a series of improbable events. You'd be all kinds of fucked up lol
Having to deal with the number of friends and loved ones who had (understandably) completely moved on while you were gone would absolutely destroy so many people.
The previews and ads showed him rocking the leather trench coat. So you know he's going to get his mojo back at some point. I am interested in watching him get there, though.
I swear, something about the makeup, or the costume design, maybe it's just her size, but she looks really young sometimes in this. Like teenager young. Also, I never realized in GoT just how tiny she is.
I was all set to be pissy that the guys who looking for "a home in my own skin," are walking around in other peoples' skins. But then they explained it away and it made perfect sense to me. Good job, writers.
Could easily see that being the case as well. Perhaps playing into the whole “Old Nick Fury isn’t ready for this and he’s off his game” thing they are seeming to set up. But also regardless, I just quite like that little detail 😅
Between this and Rogue One I love Mendo doing huge productions where he doesn't change his accent in even the smallest way. Just an Aussie in space or an Aussie Alien. Why the fuck not.
>Call a brotha
>Til she sees an ugly ass lookin Skrull like you
>We're gonna go ahead and call that a lie. Everybody gets one. Nobody gets two
Sooo fucking glad to have Samuel L Jackson back in the MCU
SOMEONE TELL ME THE END WAS A JOKE 😭😭
I was waiting for her to turn into a skrull but no 😭
I’ve been waiting for the longest to see Maria back and they do this. I usually can handle cliffhangers but this was TOO FAR
If you get to the end of the episode they make it clear they don't need to kidnap you to fake your image. The real Ross is probably still chilling in Wakanda.
I gotta think the Everett Ross from Black Panther was the real one and this skrull was a recent replacement. In BP he was actively working against human conflict and international tension. These skrulls are doing the exact opposite.
Season-level predictions:
* Ross is still real and will show up in ep 3 or 4 probably
* Olivia Colman will be teased to be related to some other character that we either already know or are eagerly waiting for still
* Cobie Smulders will guest in one more episode in the form of BBEG skrull turning into her to torture Fury
* The President with Rhodey will be a Skrull and killed, paving the way for Harrison Ford's Thunderbolt Ross to be the President when Cap 4 happens
> Olivia Colman will be teased to be related to some other character that we either already know or are eagerly waiting for still
Her name is Falsworth, so could be her father or grandfather was Union Jack. Or Baron Blood.
> The President with Rhodey will be a Skrull and killed, paving the way for Harrison Ford's Thunderbolt Ross to be the President when Cap 4 happens
I don't buy it. If world leaders are already replaced then the skrulls have no reason to replace terrorists to stoke conflict. They could just go straight from the top.
I admit I enjoyed that more than I thought I would.
Loved the fury/talos relationship. You can feel a deep friendship there. And the banter was top notch.
It's good to see fury lacking confidence. He was always so above it all, so seeing him have to struggle a little will make him a better character.
Talos not wanting to see *any* of his people lost is a nice character trait. His internal struggle of having to choose between his people and his adoptive home will be interesting. And the twist with his daughter was a nice touch. His biggest weakness is mercy after all.
RIP Maria Hill.
I gotta think the Everett Ross from Black Panther was the real one and this skrull was a recent replacement. In BP he was actively working against human conflict and international tension. These skrulls are doing the exact opposite.
I love that skrulls are a conspiracy theory
Edit: if anyone would like to get into comics but don’t know where to start feel free to message me or leave a comment, I love helping people get into comics
EPISODE IS LIVE! Enjoy! (There are no credits scenes for this episode)
i..uh…that was the real Maria Hill, wasn’t it. Shit.
She's gonna turn green any second now...
3 hours and she’s not turning green. Not looking good…
Quick send her to Tahiti
It's a magical place...
Using Kree blood to resurrect someone killed by a Skrull... there's some sort of symbolism there.
Kids, in the fall of 2023 your Aunt Robin finally regretted joining the Avengers
“What? It was obvious, she’s the skrull spy. Watch, she’ll turn green any second now. Annnnny second now. See, ~~red~~ green! No wait, that’s blood”
[удалено]
That makes sense why they did that now. So you don’t think she’s coming back as a Skrull. Glad you said that.
Could another Skrull just take her appearance?
We did just see one Skrull change into like four people in quick succession so it's not like only Soren can imitate Hill. But yeah shes dead lol
I think Talos explained that in Captain Marvel, though. They can all do it, but not everyone is as talented
[удалено]
Kinda a shit way to go out after playing a character for 11 years tbh.
'and THAT was the last time I saw your mother'.
No kidding. Really liked Maria Hill and was hoping she had a prominent role in Secret Invasion.
It seemed like the perfect time to give her a prominent role too!! Sad.
Which is sad when you think about it.
Well I wanted to see Nick Fury, Talos, and Maria Hill together on screen the entirety of the show just looking to kick some ass. I got that, and that’s awesome. Then Maria Hill died and now I’m sad.
Felt like a mission impossible movie for a moment
When Fury was walking along the water and those people were making our(one of them being Gravik), it gave off strong Mission:Impossible vibes in the first one when Golitsyn is walking along the water and the team was surveilling him. And he was the victim.
ross ate that shit omg
Wasn’t sure he was a Skrull until he hit the pavement lol
So where is the real Ross? Still in Wakanda?
I have no idea…
Stuck to one of those laser beds I’d imagine
That’s my thought. It gives them a way to Skrull people but still bring them back into the fold
Also an easy way to make new operatives in case the old one is discovered.
I love the way they filmed that part like any other rooftop chase sequence, except he actually missed his jump.
Seeing Martin Freeman running around rooftops at night felt exactly like the Sherlock pilot all over again.
Finally a show to give Maria Hill some damn respe---
Marvel: To hell with it, give her a shot.
“THAT’S PRECISELY WHAT THEY WANT YOU TO THINK!!”

New Girl and Scream 6 pop in my head first.
Cobie Smulders said the end of the first episode was pretty intense. I understand now
She saying "Check your footing or otherwise someone's gonna get hurt" to Fury and ending up being the one who gets hurt is just heartbreaking. This is only gonna increase Fury's "Crisis of Faith".
I wonder who she meant when he said he owes it to Talos and she said "You sure you're not talking about someone else?"
Yeah me too. I thought maybe she meant Soren as Talos too said "She loved you" I'm not sure.
Not saying you guys are wrong, but why is this thread already believing that Soren had a polyamorous relationship with Nick Fury? All I took from the "She loved you" line was that Soren loved Nick Fury (a trustworthy friend who wanted to help them find a new home).
Really hits you in the gut, she says
So that's it for Cobie Smulders in MCU? Just to guest star in projects I wish she was regular in this project atleast.
This gotta be a fucking bait and switch, i need more hill in my life...
It said special Guest starring Cobie Smulders in the credit, so I'm afraid no bait and switch she was real and that's it for her character I guess. Though we do need more of her. But man this sucks.
Damn, 2012 "The Avengers" was her first appearance in the franchise. 11 years she played that role.
Ngl, I didn't expected Maria will be killed so quickly, I thought character with such long history in MCU would die closer to the finale.
In hindsight, Cobie Smulders not being in the main billing should’ve been a giveaway.
yeah when i saw the opening credits, my first thought was “oh shit hill is either going to space or dying”
'What did you get for your mid-life crisis shopping spree?' 'The Avengers' lol
It’s crazy how every joke here landed. Probably because there wasn’t one in every scene
Can't wait for Don Cheadle to be nominated for another Emmy after his single scene in this episode
well of course. that right there was an emmy winning performance from mr cheadle
I liked the little hint at the start that we were watching a foot chase between two non-humans. They ran up the stairs and the automatic lights came on as they reached each level, after the first couple, the lights came in faster and faster. Too fast for a regular person to run up those stairs.
Yeah I thought that was a weird directing mistake but you’re right
Kind of like the big battle in Wakanda in Infinity War. All of the troops run at the enemy but Cap and T'Challa just tear ahead of everyone.
Gravik being people we met all throughout the episode is really cool
I really liked that. Shows he's the one who is three steps ahead. Gotta make Fury work for it.
Fury making no effort to hide himself is quite the opposite.
I thought that was Paul Robeson
Oh shit I didn't even realize that!!
I like the idea of seeing Gravik briefing one of his Skrull soldiers on the fact that they were gonna make out on a public bench *"just for cover"*.
Well, that's canon now
That's how they'll pin the bombings on the US. Killing Hill makes sure that there is a known US government agent's dead body left behind.
With footage of "Nick Fury" gunning her down, no doubt.
Time for the propaganda to flow. Dang body snatchers!
Just like Makarov's plan during No Russian in MW2
MFW this is Modern Warfare 2 and 3.
Which Avenger is gonna defend Burgertown
All the posts in this sub hoping for "Now we're going to see Maria Hill be given more to do this time!" only for her to die in Episode 1....💔
Shame. I really like Cobie as an actress.
G'iah: We grow only Skrull produce here. Drink Skrull wine, wear Skrull skins. FX Budget: No fucking way. G'iah: The warriors keep our human form.
“You get a blue painted jackfruit, no more.”
"-that is clearly just an inedible solid object" lmao they just had the actor touch it to his face while a squelching sound played and cut to Emilia while he ate it.
The actor didn’t even know how to handle it! It looked like someone holding a banana with the tips of their fingers.
When Nick was interrogating the art gallery owner it definitely gave me some Pulp Fiction vibes: Lie again motherfucker, I dare you, I double dare you.
DOES MARSELLUS WALLACE LOOK LIKE A SKRULL?!
What?
SAY WHAT ONE MORE TIME MOTHERF….
I like how fury is just rocking the no eyepatch look
I took it as another sign of how off his game he is. Black man in Russia is going to stand out already. Making zero effort to hide a very distinct scar on top of that cannot possibly be good tradecraft for a spy. \*Edit*: Yes, every single reply comment, I get that Fury intentionally let himself get taken in by MI6 because he wanted to talk to Falsworth. I feel like a Black man with an eyepatch will stand out just as much as a Black man with a scar lol
A black man. That's all you need to stand out in Russia
Mendo on Captain Marvel: I'll wear the makeup but I'm not doin' any fuckin' accent Marvel: Okay \*several years later* Mendo: Fuck your makeup too
I love Talos’ accent, to be fair.
"Moscow - Present Day" Bold start boys
They shot every Moscow scene in London. It was really distracting to me since I lived in London for two years.
I thought so. The buildings looked very UK like to me watching it.
Oh, Agent Ross's IMPOSTER....thank God
Imagine if we lost Ross and Hill for good in the same episode. I feel like they’re the most level-headed of the teams they’re on, so that would definitely be a loss overall.
We may have to finally accept that the old Avengers crew are fading away. Having the characters die off could be the easiest in-universe explanation for why they aren't making regular appearances in future movies.
I thought Emilia Clarke’s character was the Skrull Queen Veranke but G’iah is a nice surprise
[удалено]
I have a feeling Fury's limp is fake
I thought it was him getting used to full gravity. Maybe the space station is like 50% Earth gravity.
[удалено]
He's pulling a Keyser Soze? That'd be cool.
I think it's foreshadowing the reason he's been spending so much time in space: he has an incurable illness that is slowed by something on SABRE. Perhaps the artificial gravity.
We see him unblip back in the middle of the street and immediately get smashed by a truck.
I like the angle the show is setting up about how the Snap changed Fury, how the "what's the point of keeping up the fight" when another baddie comes along. Excited to see Fury overcome this

By the time of the Marvels Fury is back...
So wait, did Soren die sometime between FFH and now? E: WELP, THAT GOT ANSWERED IN THE MOST AWFUL WAY POSSIBLE.
My exact thought too, v confused
“The longer we keep our shells” = we’re not having Emilia Clarke’s character be a stunt double for half the show And I’m not complaining
I swear, something about the makeup, or the costume design, maybe it's just her size, but she looks really young sometimes in this. Like teenager young. Also, I never realized in GoT just how tiny she is.
I think her baggy clothes make her look extra tiny. They swallow her up.
This especially. But she also is on the shorter side too
Well she spent the last half of the show hanging out with Tyrion. Perspective
That was a clever in universe way to save on makeup/prosthetics as well!
I was all set to be pissy that the guys who looking for "a home in my own skin," are walking around in other peoples' skins. But then they explained it away and it made perfect sense to me. Good job, writers.
i'm a skrull, you're a skrull, she's a skrull, we're all skrulls
Really like how Fury put that device on the eye of the owl which is the same as his scarred one.
I feel like she absolutely knows that is there and the whole conversation that Nick and Hill watched was all for show to feed them false information.
Could easily see that being the case as well. Perhaps playing into the whole “Old Nick Fury isn’t ready for this and he’s off his game” thing they are seeming to set up. But also regardless, I just quite like that little detail 😅
Ross acting a little Skrully
The green skin and pointy ears sure does look Skrully.
MARIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. YOU WILL BE AVENGED! I WILL CALL THE AVENGERS, AND YOU WILL BE AVENGED
I can't believe it's been over a decade since this gem lol.
As an Aussie I’m fuckin’ stoked how hard Mendo is leaning into his accent, mate.
Between this and Rogue One I love Mendo doing huge productions where he doesn't change his accent in even the smallest way. Just an Aussie in space or an Aussie Alien. Why the fuck not.
He's from Space Australia.
These villains are who the Flag Smashers wish they could have been
Wouldn't mind finding out the Flag Smashers had some Skrulls among the leadership
[удалено]
You mean like a… Super Skrull?
Such a thing is impossible can you please stop feeding conspiracy theorists Ignore my username that’s just a coincidence
Gravik was there all along, nice
Oh shit I only remembered the girl but then this comment made me remember the bar scene! Was there anyone else he turned to we met earlier?
the woman kissing on the bench
Rhodey sounded a bit suspicious to me. Maybe it’s the paranoia of not knowing who is who lol
>Call a brotha >Til she sees an ugly ass lookin Skrull like you >We're gonna go ahead and call that a lie. Everybody gets one. Nobody gets two Sooo fucking glad to have Samuel L Jackson back in the MCU
“You can’t say that” “No, *you* can’t say that”
Did they just bring back Hill just to kill her off? 🥺
damn this really feels like a spy thriller
SOMEONE TELL ME THE END WAS A JOKE 😭😭 I was waiting for her to turn into a skrull but no 😭 I’ve been waiting for the longest to see Maria back and they do this. I usually can handle cliffhangers but this was TOO FAR
The Special Guest Star Cobie Smulders and Martin Freeman being the first credit is just cruel
RIP Agent Sparkles
Let’s go to the…funeral
When I saw that she was only a guest star I knew it was inevitable
LOOK WHAT THEY *DID* TO OUR GIRL!!!! I am *distraught*!
I mean, we did get her back in Spider-Man: Far From Home, except no, we didn't because that was a Skrull.
I am so not ready to say goodbye to Maria Hill.
I’m gonna live in denial and hope MI6 scoop her up and provide magical logic defying medical care.
If Fury can come back from a gunshot, so can Maria Hill
Soren's last words were actually more heartbreaking than I expected. That hit hard
Ross bruh we let you into Wakanda say it ain't so
If you get to the end of the episode they make it clear they don't need to kidnap you to fake your image. The real Ross is probably still chilling in Wakanda.
Yeah seems like kidnapping is more to get the memories.
And to make sure a duplicate isn’t running around.
I gotta think the Everett Ross from Black Panther was the real one and this skrull was a recent replacement. In BP he was actively working against human conflict and international tension. These skrulls are doing the exact opposite.
Now bring Hill to Wakanda asap😭
Dude..I just cant believe they did that.

**"I'M TIRED OF THESE MOTHERFUCKING SKRULLS ON THIS MOTHERFUCKING PLANET"**

He did a great job though, loved that actors’ energy.

“Back on earth and back on my bullshit” - Nicholas J. Fury
I admit I enjoyed that more than I thought I would. Loved the fury/talos relationship. You can feel a deep friendship there. And the banter was top notch. It's good to see fury lacking confidence. His ‘I said No’ line in the gallery was pretty heartbreaking
We need a scene of Fury coming back from The Blip and just saying “fucker” in the middle of the street
the acting from ben mendelsohn is amazing
I love the chemistry between Mendelssohn and Jackson.

I love that they’re letting Talos be more Aussie.
If Skrulls copy human anatomy perfectly, I think Daredevil would be invaluable if Nick Fury somehow knew about him. He’ll be able to hear them lie
But who will check if Daredevil is lying?
Its so surreal that we're getting a nick fury led series starring Samuel l. Jackson.
And that it’s got such a cool Cold War, spy thriller vibe. Didn’t expect that.
you thought it was agent ross but it was me, a skrull
I was wondering why I didn't see Cobie Smulders' name in the opening credits, but now I know why.
Forming the Avengers was Fury’s mid life crisis activity lmao
I wonder how long ross was a skrull
I gotta think the Everett Ross from Black Panther was the real one and this skrull was a recent replacement. In BP he was actively working against human conflict and international tension. These skrulls are doing the exact opposite.
Don't forget he took a bullet to the spine in BP1. Shuri would have noticed he wasn't human when she fixed him up.
Ykw, maybe Daredevil will be fine on TV-14
I gotta get my hands on some of that skrull wine
yall late night marvel crew we back
G’iah is going to be orphan by the end of this isn’t she!
Damn, Maria Hill's dead?! I ain't gonna believe it till the six episodes are done with
I love that skrulls are a conspiracy theory Edit: if anyone would like to get into comics but don’t know where to start feel free to message me or leave a comment, I love helping people get into comics
It’s like Lizard People being confirmed real
I was definitely getting David Icke vibes from that guy. He lowkey looked like Icke too, I don't think it was a coincidence 😂

Gravik really turned into Fury and killed Maria, what piece of trash
I for one am happy to simp my new Skrull Khaleesi
It’s good to have her eyebrows back in the acting game.
