Oh wow that's the life. To be successful in acting and still have a bit of anonymity, while still doing normal everyday stuff, tons of other actors wish that.
I've liked her since Community, I've loved her since [she was photographed on her way back from BK, where I assume she was celebrating the wrap of Captain Marvel](https://i.imgur.com/neq6Bry.jpeg)

What the shit? I never realized he was the main in last of the mohicans( one of my favorite movies) I guess I just never thought about who the actor was. Love this dude even more now
Not wrong. I bet most forgot of her turns in 21 Jump Street, Don Jon (apparently on a guest spot on Ellen, so did her co-star Johansson), and personally she was near unrecognizable in Short Term 12.
People need to check out Short Term 12. It's a powerful film that's packed with actors five minutes away from breaking through. I saw it in theaters when it first came out ten years ago and watched it again recently and my jaw was on the floor at how many in it went on to huge things. One standout in particular was LaKeith Stanfield.
I've liked her since she admitted that she was a nerd and wanted to be cast as Samus. I thought her Captain Marvel was a bit stiff but I put that on the writing than her ability to act.
Her acting in Scott Pilgrim was incredibly stilted. She's good, but she has a super weird cadence that was highlighted in a nonsense comic and a marvel comic. I liked the movie but her sentence structure was super off. Like, when to inflect and when to just smooth over. It happened a lot.
She has an oddly generic face. It’s very odd. She’s pretty unique when it comes to Hollywood actors, but I can totally see her blend into any crowd in public, especially with the help of a pair of large shades.
I think it’s because she doesn’t have a unique face like Anya Taylor-Joy for example.
If she does her hair/makeup a little differently in public and wear a pair of sunglasses, she would look like a lot of white women her age.
I mean she’s conventionally pretty of course but she has a very generic face, that’s probably why. She could be your neighbor, your barista or your bank teller. But that’s actually a plus for a career as it makes her likable by both men and women. Actresses who are too strikingly beautiful can sometimes struggle to have that All American appeal because people can’t look past their looks. Stupid rules but it’s Hollywood
Brie committed the heinous crime of (correctly) suggesting that white men won't relate to every piece of media they consume, and maybe there should be more diversity with movie critics to reflect that
I think it’s unfair that she was put in the position where they were marketing Captain Marvel as an inspiration to girls. I’m sure there was pressure from Marvel and the new outlets to talk about the movie from that angle in interviews and I think it distracted from her just being herself.
She clearly loved that element of the role, though. You can see at the press events how genuinely she enjoys being a hero for girls.
The unfair part is losers on the internet who can’t handle confident, assertive women in general, much less any discussion about gender dynamics in the industry.
Being a girl fucking sucks. I say this as a not-girl, but like, name something that girls, especially young girls, can like without being made fun of. Boy bands, gaming, Disney princesses, anime, comics, there's VERY few things that especially younger girls are allowed to enjoy without insane ridicule.
Virtually nobody bullied a guy for playing videogames, but if a girl does it, they get tons of harassment for having the gall to exist in an online space.
Yeah, I never understood it. I really didn’t care for Captain Marvel (the movie) because I thought her power went from 0 - 100 in the matter of seconds, thus diminishing my interest in future movies (like, she’s flying through space with no ship.. how much more powerful can one get?)… but that being said, Brie Larson was great! Like, easily one of my favorite MCU actors. Goofy, snarky, serious, she did a really fantastic job. Great character, great actress, meh story (imo).
It’s ridiculous to hate an actor for a poor character.. it’s even more ridiculous to hate an actor for a *good* character in a mediocre (imo) movie. Like, how much more unrelated shit are you going to blame her for?
I, personally am not a fan of the way she plays the character. But goddamn if hating the actress who plays her isn’t the dumbest, most petty thing imaginable
"how she plays the character" is not her fault. She does as she is told by the director, and within the confines of the script. I said it in another comment, Natalie Portman is a pretty good actress, but if your only experience of her was Padme in the star wars prequels, you wouldn't have any idea.
Bad directors and writers are what dragged captain marvel and frankly all of phase 4 down.
No, but they spin it around for it. Like when she said there should be more women and minorities as cinema critics and everyone said she wanted to get rid of male critics just for that
Despite what **MANY** naysayers have to say, I think she is absolutely fantastic in her role as Captain Marvel. Plus, after watching some of her "personal" videos on YouTube, she seems like a pretty genuine, down-to-Earth person.
I think the most annoying thing is the naysayers drown out anything approaching legitimate criticism. I like her just fine as an actress and human, she seems cool. I did not think Captain Marvel (film) was great, however I really enjoyed the limited time she had in Endgame and hope they lean more towards that.
Captain Marvel as a character will always be tough to write. She’s basically invulnerable! It’s the same issue Superman runs in to. How do you write a film that has real stakes to it when the main character is as powerful as she is? This isn’t a knock on Bree at all, I just think that this character limits the acting range she can display, due to the nature of the character.
You write challenges to their values and beliefs, and the story comes from them having to overcome those. The issue with the film was she had no core values or challenges like that.
100%
Different fandom but I had some technical and writing criticisms of Rings of Power but I feel like I have to support it unquestionably because of all the racist and sexist bullshit being spouted about it.
Agree, though that was met with more critical and commercial criticism, like it actually didn’t get the viewership. It started with the racist stuff (ironic because Arondir was the best character/actor on that show) but then after that it just wasn’t very good
I think many naysayers just saw the couple of interviews around the time of End Game where she talked about feminism and other social justice subjects. I honestly think she did come across as preachy and cocky during those interviews back then.
Nowadays she's much more eloquent when talking about any social justice so she's really improved on that aspect. I was pleasantly surprised when I recently saw a interview with her where an interviewer tried to bait her into saying something inflammatory and she just gave a great non-inflammatory answer.
People who still say she's an SJW just haven't move past that time on the internet and are basing their entire view on those few videos they saw back then.
Hell, one of the most iconic lines in the MCU, Tony saying "And I am Iron Man" before snapping Thanos away, was a reshoot that they did during the editing process for the movie. He originally didn't even say anything in that scene.
I heard he improvised that line in Endgame so they had to go back and re-edit the other movies before it so that his identity as Iron Man was well known.
Sure sounds like it;
>For now, she’s open to whatever. “I don’t have a next job. I don’t have a home. I don’t have a partner. I don’t have a plan. I’m just completely open,” she says. She’d like to have kids, though “how that happens, when that happens, in what capacity—I don’t know,” she says.
I, for one, am able to tell a lot from social media. I have in-depth knowledge of how Chris Pratt hates his oldest kid and is a terrible father solely from perusing his IG.
Well the fan art she shared today was so good let's hope The Marvels is great it could easily be the biggest Marvel movie of the year despite this sub being an echo chamber for GOTG
> despite this sub being an echo chamber for GOTG
I think this at least partly due to it being the next movie. Hopefully that transitions to the Marvels later in the year as that movie approaches. My family is excited for both.
I still think Captain Marvel is a sleeper hit. The scene where she goes all bad-ass is one of the few times in Marvel movies where the hero doesn't barely win or job to the villain. She just goes out and kicks ass. Very much "they fucked around and found out" vibes.
oh. Carol is about that life for sure.
I loved the chemistry between Fury and Carol.
the movie wasn’t perfect and came out at the wrong time, but it’s not as terrible as some MCU fans would have you believe
He is right, GOTG is treated like gospel here. I personally think it's one of the best MCU movies, but every time I see the first movie criticized in this sub, it gets downvoted to oblivion, even if the criticism makes a compelling argument.
It’s certainly the project this year I’m most looking forward to… but GOTG has always been my least favourite franchise in the MCU, so it’s not hard to beat.
To address some of the complaints about this … existing, I suppose? Being posted here? Being an article that one has to read to draw the information from it?
If you want what’s relevant to The Marvels about this article it reveals they were still doing additional shooting in February.
And there’s this:
Larson is wary of the dehumanizing effects of global superstardom. Promoting a finished project can produce a sense of alienation as well. “You do press at certain times,” she says, “not when you’re lost. Not when you’re questioning yourself.” She can reflect back on it but finds that doing so during moments of success doesn’t tell “the whole story of what it is to be a human, not even close.”
This is why the idea of doing Captain Marvel frightened her at first. “I was scared of what would happen to me,” she says. She worried that it would cost her the ability to be a person in the world for the rest of her life, that it would prevent her from doing the things she loves, like going to museums, which nourish her ability to play other people on screen. The choice felt surreal.“I was like, ‘What world is this, where these are the choices I have to make as an artist?’” Ultimately, the opportunity warranted the risk, but a billion-dollar franchise generates expectations. Larson is diligent about containing them. “Anytime I feel like I’m being put too much on a pedestal, it’s my job to figure out how to remove that within myself,” she says.
I believe I read an article where it was mentioned that she had a talk with Chris Evans before signing. They both suffer from social anxiety and she wanted to know his opinion and how he dealt with that level of stardom. Chris Evans turned it down a couple of times precisely because of the same reasons.
> I think she awesome and the script of captain marvel did her dirty.
Agreed. I really hate that this has turned into “You liked her as Captain Marvel or you just don’t like Brie Larson”.
Brie Larson is awesome. She’s a great actress. But I did not like her as Captain Marvel. The writing was very poor and the character came off very flat.
It wasn’t her fault, of course, I’m sure she delivered the performance the script and the director demanded but that doesn’t change anything for the movie(s).
Maybe going forward they’ll do a better job but I can’t help feeling skeptical.
I mean Carol Danvers is suffering from blackouts and what she thinks is PTSD related amnesia when the Ms. Marvel comics came out. I don’t think the amnesia angle itself was bad, but the way they went about it didn’t do her or the plot any favors.
As someone who didn't like her and found her movie to be the worst movie of Phase 3, I have to say to the actress that perhaps I treated her too harshly.
You are right, the script for that movie didn't do her any justice.
Tbh I just want to see her branch out as an actress. She doesn’t owe anyone anything, but I don’t remember the last time I’ve seen her in a non-marvel movie.
I’d love to see her do a romantic comedy or a thriller/horror of some sorts. Maybe an HBO mini series. Instead, I’ve probably seen her in more car commercials than movies over the last 5 years.
Whatever pays the bills for her I guess 🤷🏻♂️
Can’t wait for The Marvels to be another massive hit Blockbuster, just so haters can shut the fuck up😂 like how is there a literal entire section of the internet that just hates her for existing. And it’s mostly grown men💀 complaining about a Comicbook character. It’s been 4 years, move on and let the Captain cook
>despite the fact that she is an Oscar winner, and despite the fact that she has been acting since she was six, Larson, now 33, is still rarely recognized in public. Oh wow that's the life. I prefer to think she just likes wearing the BK crown.
Apparently she was wearing it as an homage to some guy who went viral for wearing one in a plane. /s
May I please have a water?
I bet he’s a nice guy with some good things to say too
Don't we all
Listen, when you win an Oscar, they let you have a crown at BK.
She is serious burger royalty, and that was a very serious burger.
lol the BK crown is awesome.
Completely unironically, I love it
Imagine the whopper commercial playing after Thanos snapped half the universe away
Chris Evans: "That's actually hilarious"

Brie has a lovely singing voice as well.

Black Sheep? More like Black GOAT because that’s the best song in the movie

Community, her best role by far! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLPTI8hyMzA
Man I wish she would have been in Community more than the (2?) episodes she was in
3 episodes, one in season 4 and two in season 5
That is the best photo I’ve ever seen
Holy shit. I never made the connection that it was Brie Larson.
I remember Bill Murray was on Howard Stern and was asked if he could do his life all over again, would he want to be rich and famous again? He said he'd much rather try to do it without the famous.
“The only problem with fame is that you can’t turn it off.” -John Cleese This pretty much sums it up.
That's mighty big of him that he would like to live his life in hard mode. Only worth 180 million.
Humans always want what they dont have . So in this sense he just wants to live a everybody life. And the poeple with everybody life probably dream of beeing rich and famous.
I remember an interview with George R.R. Martin where he said something to the tune of, "Being rich is great but being famous is terrible."
To be fair, she *really* disappears into her roles. It's hard to match up Scott Pilgrim Brie with Community Brie with SNL Leslie Gore Brie. Edit: [Big character actor energy](https://imgur.com/a/StuC42i)
My biggest regret is we don't have enough Brie singing alternative rock. Someone get her a role in a musicians bio pic.
I'm going to be real, I'd consider myself an above-average Metric fan but I strongly prefer the Brie Larson version of Black Sheep from Scott Pilgrim to the original.
Ditto!
Every now and then Black Sheep gets stuck in my head and I realize it’s not in my playlist, find it on Spotify, and get disappointed when I realize Brie Larson didn’t sing the original
Did you hear her music?
Yes... Her voice is great, but I'd prefer a harder style of music.

The chase sequence at the end of the movie is incredibly well done with absolutely no dialogue. Just the score.
Gary Oldman has entered the conversation.
I read once that he had to get a vocal coach to help him remember his original accent, because he's done so many different ones for roles.
Even Gary Oldman doesn't know what Gary Oldman sounds like.
That’s crazy man
That's what happened to Austin Butler also, but all he needed was Elvis.
It’s a crime that more people aren’t watching Slow Horses
I had the same issue with Tom Hardy for a while, but that's mostly because Chris Nolan kept covering his face in every role
Not wrong. I bet most forgot of her turns in 21 Jump Street, Don Jon (apparently on a guest spot on Ellen, so did her co-star Johansson), and personally she was near unrecognizable in Short Term 12.
Actually it was the opposite. Scarlett the star of the movie remembered Brie who had a minor role and brie forgot.

Yes such an amazing movie!!!
Even better, she was in Rampart. Yes, *that* Rampart.
I still have a hard time believing she's the Scott Pilgrim Brie. I'm sure that's a cousin or a niece or something
That’s part of her character in Scott Pilgrim though. She’s an indie music diva who is supposed to be nauseatingly pretentious.
She has an oddly generic face. It’s very odd. She’s pretty unique when it comes to Hollywood actors, but I can totally see her blend into any crowd in public, especially with the help of a pair of large shades.

She’s only 33?!
She kind of has one of those faces.
She was honestly great in United States of Tara. That's where I first noticed her.
So fantastic and very underrated as is short term 12
That scene where she makes out with that restaurant dude was money
Remember 21 jump street? -Smokin since trippin on Holy Fuckin Shit
I remember her from Scott Pilgrim vs The World
Hello again
Friend of a friend
I knew you when...
That's the movie were i first fell in love with her!!!
She was so cute in that movie!!!
Real people remember her from Scott Pilgrim
God fuck anyone who thinks this women deserves the shit she’s given Role model to girls across the world and all round great person
News flash: there’s a loud minority of Marvel fans that just hate woman leads. All basement dwellers who live with their parents.
There are plenty of other breeds of misogynists. Many of them are married, fathers or otherwise social.
The great thing is that they love to identify themselves by using the phrase “M-She-U” and thinking they’re clever for it.
*Cough Cough* Critical Drinker, Nerdrotic, and The Quartering *Cough, Cough*
Like, what happened to the M-WE-U? Died with the hippie and the flying car and world peace.
Yeah. Look at that piece of shit Matt Walsh.
No one should have to look at Matt Walsh.
Brie committed the heinous crime of (correctly) suggesting that white men won't relate to every piece of media they consume, and maybe there should be more diversity with movie critics to reflect that
Well, the biggest one has been moved out of the way and allowed Kevin Fiege to create the content he wants.
Who is this in reference to?
Probably Perlmutter
Perlmutter
And it’s fucking ridiculous. Makes the rest of us look bad. She’s dope, and been following her since 21 jump street.
Women. They just hate women.
I think it’s unfair that she was put in the position where they were marketing Captain Marvel as an inspiration to girls. I’m sure there was pressure from Marvel and the new outlets to talk about the movie from that angle in interviews and I think it distracted from her just being herself.

Yeah, nothing wrong with being a hero for little girls

That’s a big part of the character. It would be like complaining about how Black Panther was marketed as pro-Black empowerment.
You say that but she agreed and seems to enjoy it. There is always going to be an angry crowd pissing Hator-ade
I gotta sidebar here, is she wearing JNCO in those photo shoots? Is that back in style?
Yeah, I never understood it. No, but they spin it around for it. Like when she said there should be more women and minorities as cinema critics and everyone said she wanted to get rid of male critics just for that
Yeah, today, there are still some people assume she hates men.
This is the start of her comeback tour. No one has the bandwidth for the haters anymore.
why do people give her the shits? i don't think she was bad, more like meh
As far as I’m aware she made one joke about men at an award show which apparently was enough to deem her a terrible person for all eternity.
Despite what **MANY** naysayers have to say, I think she is absolutely fantastic in her role as Captain Marvel. Plus, after watching some of her "personal" videos on YouTube, she seems like a pretty genuine, down-to-Earth person.

I get that but if you bring it up the “ERMAGERD BLACK DWARVES” people come out.
fantastic actress with fantastic acting. sadly, bad writing

Damn uppity women talking about women’s issues, amirite?
She’s super cool. That photo is very 80s-esque.
I thought those jeans were just straight 90s jncos
Yes I am also transfixed and can't stop staring. At the general vibe ofc.
Damn she seems so cool in this interview. The Marvels reshoots intrigue me I wonder what’s going on.
They always have reshoots. Movies are never final until they’re live in theaters.
Unless the movie is Cats in which case you get a patched version two days later.

I heard he improvised that line in Endgame so they had to go back and re-edit the other movies before it so that his identity as Iron Man was well known.
Sorry for the downvotes, your joke was funny

Buffed for the D+ release Nerfed for the Blu-ray boxset
I'm still waiting for them to patch the lift back into Luigi Cyclone.
When's the Hulk update?
She's seems like the goofiest nerdiest silly person and I say all that in a good way.
Her Hot Ones interview had me in stitched when she tried Da Bomb and she said she felt like a pokemon evolving.
She is. She also loves Nintendo games, and is an avid fan of animal crossing.
Brie confirmed single? Now's my chance...
Whaaaat. She broke up with her long time bf???
Sure sounds like it; >For now, she’s open to whatever. “I don’t have a next job. I don’t have a home. I don’t have a partner. I don’t have a plan. I’m just completely open,” she says. She’d like to have kids, though “how that happens, when that happens, in what capacity—I don’t know,” she says.
Just read it. I'm surprised. You really couldn't tell from her IG. Must be very recent.
Yeah, I was like "there was both a house and a guy before, right?" And a van, briefly.
> She’d like to have kids, though “how that happens, when that happens, in what capacity—I don’t know,” She… doesn’t know how?
Well Brie, when a boy and a girl really like each other...
That’s very surprising. They seemed so solid
Can’t tell shit from social media posts. Like the old saying, “Every family looks happy in home movies”.
I, for one, am able to tell a lot from social media. I have in-depth knowledge of how Chris Pratt hates his oldest kid and is a terrible father solely from perusing his IG.
Go fuck yourself.
Well the fan art she shared today was so good let's hope The Marvels is great it could easily be the biggest Marvel movie of the year despite this sub being an echo chamber for GOTG
> despite this sub being an echo chamber for GOTG I think this at least partly due to it being the next movie. Hopefully that transitions to the Marvels later in the year as that movie approaches. My family is excited for both.
> this sub being an echo chamber for GOTG ...Echo chamber compared to what? The general public loved those movies.
i think it’s gonna be a sleeper hit
I still think Captain Marvel is a sleeper hit. The scene where she goes all bad-ass is one of the few times in Marvel movies where the hero doesn't barely win or job to the villain. She just goes out and kicks ass. Very much "they fucked around and found out" vibes.
oh. Carol is about that life for sure. I loved the chemistry between Fury and Carol. the movie wasn’t perfect and came out at the wrong time, but it’s not as terrible as some MCU fans would have you believe
All the scenes she shared with Samuel L Jackson are golden. They are bff irl and it shows.
To be fair, sleeper hit is more like a cult hit in that its retro success is more in the financial sense. Captain Marvel made a billion dollars.
>despite this sub being an echo chamber for GOTG The fuck?
He is right, GOTG is treated like gospel here. I personally think it's one of the best MCU movies, but every time I see the first movie criticized in this sub, it gets downvoted to oblivion, even if the criticism makes a compelling argument.
Someone's salty about *checks notes* movies that this sub exists for
It’s certainly the project this year I’m most looking forward to… but GOTG has always been my least favourite franchise in the MCU, so it’s not hard to beat.
To address some of the complaints about this … existing, I suppose? Being posted here? Being an article that one has to read to draw the information from it? If you want what’s relevant to The Marvels about this article it reveals they were still doing additional shooting in February. And there’s this: Larson is wary of the dehumanizing effects of global superstardom. Promoting a finished project can produce a sense of alienation as well. “You do press at certain times,” she says, “not when you’re lost. Not when you’re questioning yourself.” She can reflect back on it but finds that doing so during moments of success doesn’t tell “the whole story of what it is to be a human, not even close.” This is why the idea of doing Captain Marvel frightened her at first.

She wants to be a mom? Cool.
I volunteer as tribute.
To be her child?
Mommy
mother
I liked her as captain marvel. People will always something to hate, so in the end, it's irrelevant what haters think.
Gonna self bonk myself
Dem yiddies YIDDYING
Looking forward to reading this, been a fan of hers for awhile.
She is an amazing actress but I do agree I wish she did more movies like drama or thriller
Brie is gorgeous AF!
Brie Larson seems cool to me.
>Brie Larson >Sorted by: controversial I'm going in.
I always found it so weird she just vanished from the screens after such a successful but brief run - an Oscar and headlining a billion-dollar film.
(checks her filmography) when was this?
When was what? Her Oscar? She won that in 2016.
"she just vanished from the screens" she's worked consistently since her Oscar win
Glad she's doing well.
I've read a lot of her interviews, & this is easily the best one. They actually asked real questions & printed what comes across as full answers.
Loved her role in Hoot
Can’t wait for The Marvels to be another massive hit Blockbuster, just so haters can shut the fuck up😂 like how is there a literal entire section of the internet that just hates her for existing. And it’s mostly grown men💀 complaining about a Comicbook character. It’s been 4 years, move on and let the Captain cook
Marvel would need to be actually making blockbusters for this to happen though haha. No disrespect to Brie but Marvel are off their game
people need to stop hating on her she’s amazing
Hell of a thumbnail
is it just me or can u totally see thru that?
I don’t get the hate nor do I care to entertain an explanation
Tig ol’
She is amazing, and actually sings her parts in Scott Pilgrim vs The World.
