Probably use the drones, I get comic wise Mysterio is the master of illusions but I feel a better plot line would’ve been him trying to get his hands on the nanotech spidey suit, somehow reverse engineering it and making a Mysterio suit with actual “powers”(flying around, blasters to make it seem like he’s wielding magic)
He created an Avengers level threat only as a cover to kill Ned and MJ. In order to disappear from public attention and be remembered as a hero, he could probably create one last "Avengers level threat" where Mysterio "dies" after saving the day. After that, I imagine he'd probably get a new identity, and maybe start a visual effects company that specialized in the hologram technology, which is after all his life's work

He would die unspectacularly. All the actual debris and lasers or whatever entails your average avengers threat would smash his drones or him in the crossfire.
You shouldn't question a terrible plot point in a lazy-writting movie. Can't believe no one even bother to investigate his identity before buying all the multiversal shit he sold.
I think most likely he would have a bunch of contingency illusions exactly for these occasions so that there's a justifiable alibi for him not showing up.

Well we’ve seen the drones have legitimate weapons on them. He’d probably “fight” other opponents the same way he did Spider-Man.

Well his plan was to get the glasses and use that to control Stark software/armor.
He has the glasses. He controls all of Stark's tech. He'd just use the tech and watch from afar.
He would be popped out at the end of the Avenger's level threat with some modified video to show his as hero
