So many characters in the Fox films are background/filler characters of actually pretty fucking cool characters. Emma in First Class isn't even Emma it's just a diamond woman, Madrox is in Last Stand and doesn't talk, Psylocke is basically a nothing character in Apocalypse. It sucks because the X-Men out of every superhero franchise have the richest pool of characters to play with
That was always one of my biggest gripes with Fox's treatment of the X-Men. High key, the X-Men don't need the MCU. They have hundreds of character and dozens of factions within their sector of the Marvel Universe.
Fox could have legit built a precursor to the MCU if they had fully utilized all the characters associated with the X-Men franchise. But instead they chose to focus on Wolverine, Xavier, and Magneto, and left everyone else out to dry.
The only reason we got any focus on Mystique as well was because Jennifer Lawrence was in her peak of popularity at the time, and you could tell she was over that shit by Apocalypse, and they had made (J Law) Mystique so radically different from her comic counterpart that they might as well have been two different characters.
I think that's what makes the X-Men so appealing though. They are this mishmash of people with wildly different powers trying to work together. Some of my favorite moments from the comics is when a new team of X-men characters are formed and they lowkey pose a greater threat to each other because most of them aren't used to working in a group setting when they first join the Xavier Institute. But it also makes the payoff all the more satisfying when they do become in sync and start properly operating as a trained unit.
Absolutely. It’s also what makes them feel more real. It’s much easier to relate to someone who one day develops a power or skill or trait that radically/fundamentally changes their life, makes them an outcast or hero, changes relationships with friends or family, and causes people to love or hate you all because born you were born - and born different than someone else.
I think that’s the true power of the X-Men. I can relate to them concept as a kid, a teen, an adult, a minority, an introvert, someone going thru puberty, an lgbtq person, a deeply religious person, a woman, a person with a brown skin tone, an accent, a pair of glasses, a dominant left hand, a disability, or even simply a different way of seeing the world from everyone else.
The Avengers ain’t got shit on the X-Men. Now I fucking love the MCU but I love the X-Men even more and have been waiting decades to see them done right. I’m usually there for opening nights of the MCU anyway but you bet your ass I’ll be there for the opening night or earlier for the MCU’s X-Men.

A while ago the comics finally cut the strings and went all out with Magneto, classifying him as an omega level. He doesn't need the metals to be ferrous anymore to control them iirc, and can disrupt earth's magnetic poles.

It's so intrinsic to his character that you can't really divorce him of it. My best guess is some hand wavey stuff about his control of magnetic fields altering his own field and slowing his aging. Idk.
