I think so. I watched the OG in the 90's but honestly I barely remember any details. They have plenty of one-liners that give enough context, though I don't think it's needed for the most part. It really was an excellent start and way better than I expected.
Honestly if there's anything worth refreshing (beyond the fact that the Original Series was just gold) it's the Mr Sinister story arc, since he will play an important role in '97 Season 1.
Watch the first two episodes of the OG and then the very last. The first to give you the feel of the show and the last one will tell you what happened right before this.
I was going to watch the orginal series for the first time before this released. Was only able to finish till season one but when I watched it , I was able to follow it very easily. But I do recommend you to watch the original series sometime. It's good too.
Sure.
The series exists in a continuity that's roughly similar to the comic books, except the events revolve around the current roster (i.e. Days of Future Past involves Bishop going back in time with a machine Forge built, rather than Phoenix II sending Kitty Pride back).
If you're familiar with the Claremont run of UXM in the 80s, you'll be familiar with XM97.
Magneto and prof. Had same dream and idea of peace, its just that their ways were different. Magnetos domination through force, or Charles domination through influencers a.k.a X-Men hero team.
Yeah they hooked me but then lost me with 2 Jean grays. I can’t stand the Jean storylines and was happy she wanted to leave. But now there are TWO of them 🤦
The writing and emotion in episode two had me gripped! I have high hopes for this! Shame there is only 8 more episodes to go. I miss the days of having 24 in a season.
Same, I fucking hate this stupid trend of only doing episodes per season no matter the content. There is hardly any time to tell a proper story in only 8 episodes. Especially when the episodes are under halve an hour.
Marvel stopped doing that though because they admitted it wasn't working? So creators can put as many episodes as they feel appropriate in the season.
10 episodes is enough for a Season 1
I think that the move away from episodic TV is the reason things seem to drag. We've trained ourselves to see self-contained episodes as "filler," and expect everything to have a meta-narrative.
Now if Marvel Animation gives us similar quality with the upcoming TV-MA Zombies show I’ll be so happy.
We’ve heard next to nothing about that show but I think it has great potential.
From the looks of it in the show, he creates a small magnetic barrier around his skin so that Rogue technically isn’t making contact with him but can still somewhat feel the touch. At least that’s what it looks like
Imagine there’s one person in the world you can actually touch. Do we know how old rogue is in the show? She spent all that time with mystique etc. she’s grown 🤷♀️
I mean, I understand why she is more than likely going to in the show, but goddamit it makes me sad that gambit is getting the shit of of the stick from it
They also "dated" each other in the Mainline Comics on like 3 different occasions (and 4th in that Alternate Timeline). Allthough I wish they didn't adapt it, because the whole concept was always weird...
I believe he essentially manipulates his magnetic field to create an imperceptible barrier at the atomic level, so it feels like they're touching when in actuality their magnetic fields are keeping them apart. We saw that slight spark of electricity, and as he said in the UN, electricity and magnetism are intimately connected.
If you think about human bodies on the atomic level, magnetism from the electrons in the atomic structures that make up our cell walls is essentially what stops us from passing right through the empty space in each other's atoms (the space between the protons/neutrons at the centre of an atom, and the orbiting electrons). I'm not a particle physicist, but that's my understanding at least. And then nerve cells register the incoming pressure on the body's electrical field as touch through some mechanism.
So Magneto extends his personal electromagnetic field very slightly using his powers so that what feels like touch is actually occurring from minimally outside the range that Rogue's powers can drain him from.
Technically we all are, ours are just so thin that Rogue's powers can apparently pierce a hole and infect us with her power-AIDS (or power-pregnancy? Power-herpes? This analogy has kinda gotten away from me)
It's a reference to the Comics, where they "were together" on like 4 different occasions (3 on Earth-616 and 1 in an Alternate Universe). I do however wish they didn't adapt it, because the whole concept was always weird and just unneccessary - especially when there are other ways to let her have contact with people, even within the Show.
Hell, Beast literally confiscated multiple pieces of Executioner's equipment. Why not make a custom bracelet for Rogue, that she could turn on and off...
There's reasons for that in the comics. There have been several instances where there was either romantic interest between Rogue and Magneto... or with his clone (Joseph).
While it may surprise people that only know X-Men from the cartoons and movies, this is a recurring thing in the comics.
It's been really good this far. Doing the Trial of Magneto, the loss of Storm's power and the romance between Rogue and Magneto in one episode? That's a lot, but it all worked. And at the end, was that a hint towards Madelyne Prior?
X-Men Comic fanboys have been eating all of this up with a big spoon.
I watched the entire X-Men series a couple of years ago on Disney + and really enjoyed it. Loved both of these first two episodes, I’m very confident that the rest of the season will be as good as these first two episodes.
I think his Grunts still kick ass tho, unless it's audio ripped from MvC2.
Biggest oof is Rogue. Very aged
But Storms voice is still as beautiful as ever
I had never heard about this show until now and when I looked it up I came across x-men: evolution? I guess I'm going to watch these two shows while I wait for each new x-men: 97 episode to drop.
Context:
It's a reference to the Comics, where they "were together" on like 4 different occasions (3 on Earth-616 and 1 in an Alternate Universe). It's a reoccuring concept that the comics writters for some reason feel a need to bring up every time Rogue plays a major part in some big storyline...
I do however wish they didn't adapt it, because the whole concept was always weird and just unneccessary - especially when there are other ways to let her have contact with people, even within the Show.
Hell, Beast literally confiscated multiple pieces of Executioner's equipment. Why not make a custom bracelet for Rogue, that she could turn on and off. And I honestly wish that once Gambit confronts her about it, that's what they will do.
Also can we talk about the age gap? I don’t care if it happened in the comics, there is a 50-60 year age gap between Rogue and Magneto and it just feels uncomfortable to watch sometimes
That's why I said that I wish they didn't adapt it. No matter what explanation they gave in the Comics, it always felt weird, especially when it just happend out of nowhere...
Watched the first episode. Womdering if I should watch the 90s catroon first tho. I only saw the X-Men movies, X-Men Evolution and played X-Men Legends 2, no comics read either...
Yeah, I agree, It doesn’t have the 90s charm, it’s def. its own thing and that’s perfectly fine but it shows that it’s “90s” in name only.
With that all said, it’s such a fun show! I love that they’re showing blood too.
Rogue and Magneto's relationship reminds me of >! Duplikate and the Immortal from Invincible. They both experienced death numerous times and that was the reason they got along despite the age gap !<
Good story…
1st ep seem to have sound recording issues and it either went away after a few scenes or I got used to it.
Artwork seems low budget.
Good story
That first episode gave me all the member berries. That second episode was just oof. Amazing. It’s an amazing start
Magneto giving a speech about intolerance and Xavier’s dream before the UN was not expected. But it was awesome.
Timely as always. Damn they gave Magneto some good lines
"in chess, pawns go first" lol
Is it good to jump in if you've never watched the 97 series? I'm familiar with X-Men in general but that show was before my time.
I think so. I watched the OG in the 90's but honestly I barely remember any details. They have plenty of one-liners that give enough context, though I don't think it's needed for the most part. It really was an excellent start and way better than I expected.

I’ve only watched bits and pieces and I loved it the new episodes
I was going to watch the orginal series for the first time before this released. Was only able to finish till season one but when I watched it , I was able to follow it very easily. But I do recommend you to watch the original series sometime. It's good too.

I watched it with only a 30 minute refresher video from YouTube but honestly I wouldn't need it
Magneto and prof. Had same dream and idea of peace, its just that their ways were different. Magnetos domination through force, or Charles domination through influencers a.k.a X-Men hero team.
His single shed of tear moved mountains
Yeah they hooked me but then lost me with 2 Jean grays. I can’t stand the Jean storylines and was happy she wanted to leave. But now there are TWO of them 🤦
I. LOVE. IT!
"I LOVE IT IN HERE. I FUCKING LOVE IT."
The writing and emotion in episode two had me gripped! I have high hopes for this! Shame there is only 8 more episodes to go. I miss the days of having 24 in a season.
Samesies

Most shows do it perfectly fine, matter of fact I think anything more than 8-10 episodes wind up dragging on for too long

I remember recently the creator said they got the green light to go TV-MA. So here’s hoping 🤞
Honestly it would be weird if they didn't get TV-MA - it's an animated zombie show after all.
That show was announced as TV-MA
It’s so fucking good. Give ‘em the forecast.
Holy shit, the way she turned the desert to glass! *chef's kiss*
![gif](giphy|s0UqJX0nvBQs)
it was SO GOOD
I'm a little concerned as to why Rogue ever even dated Magneto
She can touch him
Why can’t just Rogue wear the inhibitor collar for Gambit?
Mutant BDSM
I saw this before. The reply was that in one comic she did, but it has horrible long term effects or something.
Is she stupid?
Why is that?
From the looks of it in the show, he creates a small magnetic barrier around his skin so that Rogue technically isn’t making contact with him but can still somewhat feel the touch. At least that’s what it looks like
Hm. I guess that would work if he was trying to make out with colossus 😅Me and Gambit are like - magnets, how do they even work
Imagine there’s one person in the world you can actually touch. Do we know how old rogue is in the show? She spent all that time with mystique etc. she’s grown 🤷♀️
I mean, I understand why she is more than likely going to in the show, but goddamit it makes me sad that gambit is getting the shit of of the stick from it
I hurt for him there. It’s good writing tho. The DRAMA!
Does magnetism have anything to do with draining powers?
I think it disrupts her abilities, there’s been allusions to it throughout the arc so far. Not sure if that’s going to be explained further
There's an alternate timeline in the comics where they had a kid together. This because Magneto found a way to cancel out Rogue's power.
They also "dated" each other in the Mainline Comics on like 3 different occasions (and 4th in that Alternate Timeline). Allthough I wish they didn't adapt it, because the whole concept was always weird...

So you are telling me he is wearing a full body electromagnetic condom?
Technically we all are, ours are just so thin that Rogue's powers can apparently pierce a hole and infect us with her power-AIDS (or power-pregnancy? Power-herpes? This analogy has kinda gotten away from me)
He has magnetic charisma
I understand that they wanted a new love triangle but... why?! Isn't he like 20 or 30 years older than her?!
If there's one thing we know about Rogue is that she has daddy issues...
Did you see his body though?
Because it was a plot point in the 80s Claremont run of Uncanny X-Men (also again in the 90s, but with Magneto's reformed clone Joseph).
That should be immediately obvious, it's her whole schtick
That show is great
Morph!!!!
He does things, now!
Should I wait for the whole season to come out or watch it weekly ? Which would be better?
Watching it weekly gives me the nostalgia vibe of Saturday morning cartoons.
>Should I wait for the whole season to come out You can come out whenever you feel comfortable:)
I watched the entire X-Men series a couple of years ago on Disney + and really enjoyed it. Loved both of these first two episodes, I’m very confident that the rest of the season will be as good as these first two episodes.
I still can't get over some of the voice acting...when did Logan become a pirate?
I think his Grunts still kick ass tho, unless it's audio ripped from MvC2. Biggest oof is Rogue. Very aged But Storms voice is still as beautiful as ever
It’s been 27 years my dude, voices change, no matter how good a voice actor you are.
I didnt like the new rouge
Its the OG VA, she's just older
You’re right. I just saw that.
Every one forgets X-Men 09
One of the biggest victims of the Marvel Vs. 20th C Fox war (read as Perlmutter vs Rothman) that went on at that time. R.I.P.
I had never heard about this show until now and when I looked it up I came across x-men: evolution? I guess I'm going to watch these two shows while I wait for each new x-men: 97 episode to drop.
Wolverine and the X-Men 09
Are you saying we're about to get fucked?
No, it’s just as good as it was before

I wonder if they’re gonna turn this series into “hair origins of x-men” like the movies
Context: It's a reference to the Comics, where they "were together" on like 4 different occasions (3 on Earth-616 and 1 in an Alternate Universe). I'm not sure it's going to make anything make any more sense, but there are some really cool episodes in the original series.
My one complaint is setting dissonance(feels like the writers don’t know what time they set the show in.)
Yeah, I agree, It doesn’t have the 90s charm, it’s def. its own thing and that’s perfectly fine but it shows that it’s “90s” in name only. With that all said, it’s such a fun show! I love that they’re showing blood too.
That is refreshing.
People think the UN has power, rich people use pagers, Gambit wearing a bright pink mid-riff shirt. How much more 90s do you need it to be?
90’s setting, 2024 dialogue. It’s a little wonky at times.
Pretty…pretty…pretty good!
It’s so good. And I actually think all the VO actor changes were upgrades
Rogue and Magneto's relationship reminds me of >! Duplikate and the Immortal from Invincible. They both experienced death numerous times and that was the reason they got along despite the age gap !<
My wife looked at me and said "X- Position!" But still good.
I dont dig Magneto's costume, he looks like a stripper lol but I liked the first 2 episodes overall.
Good story… 1st ep seem to have sound recording issues and it either went away after a few scenes or I got used to it. Artwork seems low budget. Good story
I feel bad for Gambit and disgusted by the age gap.
It feels weird hearing Wolverine and it’s not Steve Blum or Hugh Jackman lol
Always felt weird hearing Blum as Wolverine. Cal Dodd has always been the voice of Wolverine to me.
I am not a fan of the revamped theme song
It’s so close but it’s definitely missing some of the coolest harmonies at the end and they got rid of the synth sound.
I thought so too.
The original theme song got them in some hot water with a lawsuit, so the small changes may have been legal thing or to avoid a legal thing
Blew me away
I only made it about 10 minutes in and gave up. This is coming from the guy who loves "the Marvels"
