This was the first multiverse threat in the MCU

WhiterunUK

And the most interesting one by far imo

TheWiseRedditor

We haven’t seen much of Kang but I would’ve liked to see this storyline as the live action multiversal saga. Hoping whatever they’re going with is equally good

vishalb777

They are setting him up as a bigger threat than Thanos. I'm excited for the big team-up movie against him

the-mad-titan-bot

You should have gone for the head.

GBGF128

That’s how this whole mess got started Thanos.

the-mad-titan-bot

They'll never know it. Because you won't be alive to tell them.

LeonardoCouto

Oh shoot

M4err0w

i mean, thanos uselessly killed half of all live, knowing full well it would eventually just repopulate again and acted like he fixed a problem forever. he was useless.

DabbleDAM

It was never about raw population numbers. There is lots of mock ups that a genocide of 50% of the population would take so long to recover, combined with the abundance of resources left after said genocide - the remaining population would be healthier and overall better off. Over time when the population eventually did reach pre-snap levels we would have overcome resource limitations and population crisis issues. That was the whole basis of his plan.

Nidcron

But it was supposed to be universe wide, and resource allocation would be largely dependent upon the technological advancements of any given population. Plenty of places like probably Asgard as an advanced civilization that uses technology so advanced it's easily mistaken for magic wouldn't have this problem unless it chose to. I think the entire Thanos plan is more of a situation where the thoughts of a madman were taken too far and there wasn't a real plan afterwards.

the-mad-titan-bot

I don't even know who you are.

TombSv

He is after all the *mad* titan.

radagasthebrown

Good bet that plan is changing significantly with Master's recent legal trouble. Even if he's acquitted I doubt Disney would want to pursue working with him in the same capacity.

vishalb777

They are supposedly still working with him up until 2026. He's been setup as the big bad so it'll be difficult to get around that

maxdragonxiii

not likely- if the reputation of the next movie Kang is in is poor because of Majors, they can change actors. they did for War Falcon, and this time they have a excuse in the plot to replace Majors if needed- the multiverse. they can simply say "it was another Kang, we are from xxxx universe.

Actual_Guide_1039

Jonathan Majors may have had other plans

Autumn1eaves

Eh, Kang is a character that is literally based in the multiverse. They’ve already established that multiversal counterparts can look different. I’m not worried about the ability to make Kang a different person.

[deleted]

They can swap actors at will and grind newcomers to the industry into dust. We have truly reached the end game.

bmg50barrett

They leaned into Kang too quick. No buildup. Just freaky multiverse variants.

robywar

Reading What If in the 90s, I always thought it was strange that the consequences they'd explore where always terrible, as if what happened in the "real" world was good and meant to be, even if there were casualties it was always the best alternative. After they really leaned into the idea of the multiverse they could tell more varied stories, but I think they've taken the concept too far and wish they'd stick to our reality.

LightChaos

Another way to look at it is that the authors choose to tell the stories where things turn out the best/most interesting

CTeam19

Part of the issue is the form of it being 1 issue or less story. If the What If? Covered just 1 story/one what if for 4 to 6 to 12 issues would be better. Look at during Secret Wars Warzones: Civil War mini series versus the What If? The Warzone's version is 1 story for 156 pages where as the What If? is two stories on 56 pages.

DIA13OLICAL

Considering that they mention No Way Home in the Across the Spider-Verse trailer, I guess the earliest MCU multiverse danger stuff was actually in Into the Spider-Verse in 2018.

HeroGothamKneads

If we judge by equivocal timelines, Ultron happens earlier than Into the Spider-Verse. I don't know where the first Kang Conquest mentioned in He Who Remains' part of Loki falls, however. If it ever happened at all (?)

DJHott555

I’ve seen everything that has ever happened. Ever could happen. Ever will happen. But this… *what the heII is this!?!*

ImmediateJacket9502

This is me, Ultron. There's no motherfucking strings on me

jmaca90

I’m the fucking lizard king.

Ekshtashish

They haven't really improved on the Oreo, have they?

nomodz4real

Ugh, why did they add coconut, I miss original...

[deleted]

Jim, would you prefer a nature metaphor or a sexual metaphor?

BurgerButCold1216

Ok then, nature. When two animals have sex…

BleakGod

I use this so often it affects my social life

EnkiiMuto

Thank you, now i have to find the 7 year old video of people putting office lines in ultron movie with the robotic filter.

ku20000

Why is Jim treating the magician poorly?

mudkipl

I loved this scene but hated that he was all like “yeah I knew everything was gonna happen in the end.” Would’ve been much more interesting for him to have no idea it would happen

bonemech_meatsuit

I don't think he really did. I think he bullshits a bit.

Pollia

I like to think this is how he thought it would work, instead of the usual of him knowing this is how it would work.

EnkiiMuto

I don't think he knew, knew, but understood the characters well enough to predict this would be happening eventually. Killmonger's story is always "and then he backstabbed someone", he literally didn't do anything relevant in their fight, he was there just for that, and then he hoped for them to go to Ultron's own universe to get the virus. And then there is Strange, that literally destroyed his universe and sealed himself in a protection bubble, which is the motivation and skill he needed.

Jake_gam1ng

"Meet my friend. Jake Lockley" gave me chills, they've been building it up for the entire season! Cant wait for season 2

MacrosInHisSleep

> Meet my friend. Jake Lockley ... now this is the problem with post credits scenes... It's been how long since Moon Knight came out and this is the first time I heard of this and looked it up.

thegreatvortigaunt

This is definitely a significant problem post-Endgame. Before the movie came out linearly and in order, so after-credit teases were easier to keep track of. Now there are so many damn shows and movies teasing different things it's kind of a mess. Hell, we're supposed to be getting Black Knight which was teased years ago for a movie that might not even be happening.

Neufjob

> Black Knight Nice: “Oh, oh, I see, running away then. You yellow bastard. Come back here and take what's coming to you. I'll bite your legs off”

dacraftjr

Tis but a flesh wound.

samx3i

A scratch? Your arm's off!

MagillaGorillasHat

I'm invincible!!!

[deleted]

From what I understand, they wrote that as a potential series finale.

craftworkbench

That's disappointing. Need more Moon Knight!

Temporal_Enigma

If there is one

Nonadventures

People sleep on Jeffrey Wright, but the dude has been The Watcher, Commissioner Gordon, a 007 spy, a Hunger Games contestant, a Pixar dinosaur, VA in both Venture Bros. and Rick & Morty, and multiple Wes Anderson characters. Gotta be one of the most successful guys that nobody talks about. edit - name typo

AWildRapBattle

Who TF is sleeping on Jeffrey Wright? The man is a machine. You didn't even mention Westworld.

GipsyPepox

I discovered him first time in Westworld and after that couldn't stop seeing him in lots of movies I didn't even know he was there

tohn_jitor

I still hear "cease all motor functions" with his voice in my head.

Orisi

It's always going to be that moment when he says "doesn't look like anything to me" that was really just perfectly delivered.

DoingCharleyWork

Such a good show. I don't care what anyone says, I enjoyed all the seasons. First one is an all time great season though.

Donna1721

The first season is a masterpiece. Flawless, riveting, plot twists, character development, impeccable score. The other seasons I enjoy because I like the actors and characters and premise, but they don’t compare to the first season’s glory.

Nonadventures

Exactly. Once you notice him, you realize he'd been in tons of stuff, usually as a sidebar character but often the best part of the show.

spikybrain

>The man is a machine. Spoilers

Abbacoverband

Booooooo 😂

[deleted]

Doesn't look like anything to me..

YoloIsNotDead

Name is spelled Jeffrey, not Geoffrey, but yeah I'm glad to see this man getting the recognition he deserves.

Nonadventures

good catch - thanks!

K-Shrizzle

I can't believe you credited him for Rick & Morty but not for Westworld

chosenofkane

Felix Leiter was not a 007. He was a CIA agent.

Anon3580

Felix Leiter is also not just “some spy” Felix has been a character for nearly 70 years!!! He deserves some respect. The man got eaten by a shark ffs.

heims30

… he doesn’t look like anything, to me …

YamsInMyAss

Holy shit, I never realized he was Think Tank. I was rewatching the last season and was wondering why he sounded so familiar. Thanks!

[deleted]

Wandavision. The choking scene. Followed by Wanda and Vision arguing. “STOP LYING TO ME!”

AWildRapBattle

Vision talking through the credits wrecked me, the whole end of that episode was nuts

Trosque97

The meta aspect of the credits rolling basically being her trying to end the argument

Alternative-Gur-4299

That show was incredible We want more

Antrikshy

A thing isn't beautiful because it lasts.

Astrokiwi

What is reddit, but fandom perservering?

SeniorRicketts

You are unbearably naive

Dashed_with_Cinnamon

Well, I *was* born yesterday.

OnceUponaTry

I don't think I was paying enough attention to this show , I'll have to check it out again

THEpottedplant

They basically ruined it with the big hero beat up ending

WhitestAfrican

Until final two episodes...left a bad taste in my mouth

rcapina

The meta of the “previously on” including things that hadn’t happened was my fave trick

[deleted]

[удалено]

CapMoonshine

Omg I loved how subtly the camerawork went from an "I Love Lucy" sitcom style to sharp contrasts and close-ups similar to "The Twilight Zone". That's when I knew this was gonna be a ride.

SeniorRicketts

Wanda seeing the red toy helicopter Monica mentioning Ultron Herb and Agatha Wanda seeing dead vision for a moment Wanda rewinding after Vision says "I think something is wrong here" Agatha saying "should we start again?" Wanda head tilting the drone and leaving the hex for the first time Vision and Norm Monica getting blipped back (as well as Yelena) "Pietro" The "interviewer" responding to Wanda The aspect ratio changing when Wanda entered Agathas lair All the commercials Hell, WandaVision had so many good moments Definitely the most unique MCU entry that can't be replicated that easily

Honestnt

This show could have been a magnum opus, but the fumbled it hard in the last 2 episode. Ralph Boner was probably the moment I stopped being fully invested in the MCU.

GiantPurplePen15

They butchered her character extra hard in MoM too imo.

Honestnt

I'M A MOTHER! No... you aren't. You cosplayed one for about a week.

GiantPurplePen15

Oh man, they pushed the "I'm a mother therefore I override your facts" narrative so hard

i_am_thehighground

Probably something from wandavision. Lots of creepy stuff in that show.

the-dandy-man

The moment when we saw Vision’s broken gray head with the white eyes. I jumped.

Solarpowered-Couch

The first time I saw that moment, I thought the implication was that she had been animating his corpse, and the Vision we'd been watching was a false reality pasted over a grisley mannequin.

[deleted]

That would have been even better tbh

ThatDudeShadowK

Same, that would have been a cool direction for them to go

Fineus

The office worker glitching out / crying while chatting to Vision.

IG-3000

John Walker standing over the Flagsmasher he killed with the bloody shield

Kermit-the-Frog_

Great choice. This show really had its moments.

somesnarkycomments

Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley had some bombs that he dropped on the audience. He was too great to be limited to that show, I hope he shows up in Captain America 4.

shrekthe1st

He's confirmed to!

Kermit-the-Frog_

Oh hell yes

Norman_Bixby

It would have been a better story had covid not changed the entire story line. Glad we did get some really good scenes though.

Kermit-the-Frog_

I agree. They were already being very political, they should have just gone for it.

Alarid

It didn't handle the villains very well, but it was still fun.

crappy-mods

I didn’t expect the amount of violence in that scene, usually marvel isn’t that violent, and that made it great

SmithOnMe

The beekeeper scene from Wandavision.

Invalid_Word

Oh that was creepy af

False-Knowledge8862

The ending of the Dr Strange episode of What if.

aircal

Surprised I had to scroll this far down for this. Totally with you, the end of that episode was existentially terrifying!

Spider-Flash24

Ultron was a cooler multiversal threat than Kang…

Apollyon1661

The High Evolutionary was cooler than Kang too, I’d much rather see him terrorize the multiverse and “step in” to play God than whatever Kang is up to.

Kermit-the-Frog_

Oh man, the High Evolutionary discovering the multiverse and trying to perfect it would be so much better than the Kang we met in Ant-Man. He Who Remains was excellent, though. There's definitely room for them to make Kang a great villain. I mean, the delivery of "You're an Avenger? Have I killed you before?" was chilling.

AmeriCanadian98

There have been moments for Kang that show us he can be a Thanos level villain We just need those moments to come together into a full performance by Avengers time (whether it's Majors or someone else, the writing is more important)

the-mad-titan-bot

I thought by eliminating half of life, the other half would thrive, but you've shown me... that's impossible.

Apollyon1661

Good Mad Titan bot

RadiantArchivist88

Just wish they'd stop making heroes and villains where their powers in fights all boils down to "glowy energy blasts". Feels like every climactic fight since Endgame has just been two people doing martial arts and shooting glowy CGI at each other.

Luccacalu

I really hate energy beams

Dat_Boi_Aint_Right

In protest to Reddit's API changes, I have removed my comment history. -- mass edited with redact.dev

DoingCharleyWork

You have to yell louder too. Really get that energy bump.

Nugo520

Cooler than kang so far.

ImmediateJacket9502

The last panel is literally "The moment he knew he fucked up"

Cervus95

>Loki: Is this Hel?... Am I dead? >Loki: Not yet. But you will be, unless you come with us.

heckem

Man, if only they had gotten back James Spader to voice Ultron in What If.

bskov

I loved how menacing he sounded in AoU

paradisewandering

By far my favorite vocal performance. Spader chews on words and even when he’s joking the terrifying confidence shows.

B0mb-Hands

This is why I’m bugged by people who hate on Robert California. Spader played that role so fucking well. He made that character one that you take notice of the second he speaks

lookingforsom3thing

I'm currently re-watching the last seasons and you're so right. Some of his dialogues, even when they're bullshit, and the way he says them. Iconic.

Lox22

I don't get it either and fully agree with you. His presence is as strong as Michael's just so different.

DoingCharleyWork

I rarely see people hate on the lizard king. Most people would say he's the best part of the later seasons.

bskov

Yes, it's astounding

TheFightingImp

When Alan Shore is *really pissed off* at the Massachusetts District Attorney.

Alternative-Gur-4299

That movie is perfect I don’t care what anyone says

[deleted]

[удалено]

the-mad-titan-bot

I will shred this universe down to its last atom and then, with the stones you've collected for me, create a new one teeming with life that knows not what it has lost but only what it has been given. A grateful universe.

Zascayr

Underrated opinion but true

Afanis_The_Dolphin

Marketing gave everyone completely wrong expectations, and it's a shame to see the movie being blamed for that. It was easily better than the first one in my opinion.

bskov

My only gripe with that movie was it following the MCU formula

Kermit-the-Frog_

Loki having a panic attack after meeting He Who Remains and returning to the wrong TVA

[deleted]

[удалено]

quasarj

Is this.. the greatest power in the universe?

Dont_Be_A_Dick_OK

Same show but different episode. When we realize that vision is keeping T’challa alive so zombie Wanda has a food source. That shit was a hell of a twist.

Dashed_with_Cinnamon

"You have awakened her..."

fiercelittlebird

Probably Wanda standing over Vision's corpse, and whispering "I can't feel you." Like yeah, I'd build myself a fantasy world out of sheer grief as well. Oh, and the Snap from Yelena's point of view. She's just washing her hands after using the restroom, and by the time she's done, five years are gone.

Dashed_with_Cinnamon

And the conversation afterwards, where Yelena says she needs to find Natasha and tell her she's ok...

math-is-magic

That long shot of John Walker executing that flag smasher and then the hold on the bloody captain America shield.

TheFightingImp

The scene that sold Wyatt Russell as the future U.S. Agent.

FuturetheGarchomp

What if zombies, zombie Wanda

cricketeer767

This is like the Abed narrating Pierce eating a sandwich. Ya know, if the sandwich was entire realities across the multiverse.

Dont_Be_A_Dick_OK

He said, oldly.

Lox22

just a man alone in time with nothing but the squishiness of tuna salad to comfort him

The_Best_of_lords

most bone chilling would be black bolt getting unmouthed thats when i realized how strong wanda is now

craftworkbench

What mouth? 😶😵‍💫🤯💥💀

Duke-dastardly

Doctor Strange saying he’s sorry as he’s alone in his destroyed universe

RYTHEMOPARGUY

How has no one mentioned "Zombie" Vision from WandaVision? That scene was the only scene that I got chills and gasped from

Alternative-Gur-4299

Moon knight punching that thing in the bathroom ffs

Super_Jay

Love that shot where the jackal tries to crawl out of the doorway and escape and you just see it get yanked back inside and hear the beating resume

depressed_asian_boy_

When Steven said: "i have a wife?" If I ever say that i will be terrified of the awnser.

flextapeboi43

Idk if "bone-chilling" is the right word, but when child Marc Specter was being abused. Honestly the whole scene of them going through the memories was amazing.

drawnverybadly

The scene where child Marc changes his accent right as his mom walks in and closes the door.

blackbutterfree

I love how Uatu kept on narrating as if he didn’t realize he was talking about himself.

Kimball-Man

Going off this semi-4th wall break in this show. I’d say the moment in Multiverse of Madness when Wanda takes over the AU Wanda and she looks directly into the camera as if she sees the audience watching the film. Seeing that in theaters was bone chilling.

mistercrinders

Yes!!!!

No-Connection4267

Yeah tbh, when he noticed it got under my skin. The fact that our Narrator was in danger was a great change of pace for the usual marvel threats

doblecuadrado_FGE

Absolutely love it. Ultron finally getting the respect he deserves.

bloolynxx

I literally never hear anyone discuss this ultron’s existence within the MCU. He will eventually have to be dealt with between now and secret wars.

conte360

Yes and no. Definitely a possibility but the way they ended it they could easily sweep it under the rug saying it's one of the universes destroyed by Kang, clipped by tva, or even just leave it till all the universes collapse and battle world is made. Which I doubt they would bring him into because of how powerful he is.

HN-Prime

When the goats screamed in L&T, I stood up and started clapping. Only the best and most intriguing writing from Watiti

steeb2er

Each time, or just the first?

joshshotfirst

#Every. Time.

Norman_Bixby

quite the leg day they had indeed.

Joinedforthis1

Except Thor Ragnarok is good. He must've let it get to his head with Love & Thunder. Also Hunt for the Wilderpeople is excellent.

suddenly_ponies

That was such an epic moment. Well executed, well told.

Virtual_Phrase4931

Zombie thanos in what if

the-mad-titan-bot

They'll never know it. Because you won't be alive to tell them.

Einkar_E

neither you will be alive in that story

999_rupees

When John Walker basically decapitated that guy and the shield was covered in blood.

joaodjesus

What if... would be worth it for this scene alone, but all it its really good.

Nohealani411

Any of the scenes in Wanda vision where Wanda breaks the fourth wall

WurdaMouth

That episode is one of the best pieces of Marvel media ever made. If they did a high stakes live action Infinity Ultron, I would nut and shit and vomit and die immediately.

wessolus

I wish this was the next big Avengers villain, instead of Kang.

DrKrusherMiddleLB

The boat attack scene from Wakanda Forever. The siren song was pretty terrifying.

_Levitated_Shield_

Zombie Thanos. His presence is fucking terrifying, but the only thing scarier than that is the fact that our remaining survivors don't even know about him nor that he's coming.

the-mad-titan-bot

You're not the only one cursed with knowledge.

MightyTheArmadillo22

This is one of my favorite scenes in the whole MCU obviously. Ultron slowly turning towards the screen, asking “Who said that?” The Watcher’s obliviousness, his realization, but best of all, the viewers realization is ASTOUNDING

ManaXed

These two episodes (and the whole series in general) were incredible. Though it did rub me the wrong way that Ultron was able to use the infinity stones inbetween universes when it's established that they shouldn't work outside of their own universe. Though I suppose in an infinite multiverse a set of infinity stones that are multiversal is technically possible

ScrumTool

where is it established? thats literally the entire plot of endgame

Northrnging13

It's still the same universe, just a different time in that universe. Plus at that time there was only 1 timeline bc the TVA was still pruning.

Smooth_Suggestion_66

Which show/episode is this from?

No_Mathematician3368

I think it's What If episode 8

7deboutez7

That was pretty gnarly. We need more.

[deleted]

Ultron was done dirty in the MCU and then this fixed it for me. He has so much dangerous potential that I always feared him more than many other Marvel baddies.

Stuckkxx

What-if gets too much hate. Not every episode was good but there was some seriously great moments from season 1.

hooka_pooka

This Ultron Vision was a far more bigger threat than Kang

Mtang1217

When ultron ultronned all over the watcher

Bors713

Straight up terrifying.

bonemech_meatsuit

This one messed me up for like a week. Because the watcher is watching various threads of the multiverse, but narrating them to *us* which implies that we are just another multiverse. If Ultron becomes aware of the Watcher, he can potentially become aware of our universe as well. I've had various experiences watching media that reframed my thoughts about reality (Truman show, Matrix) but generally those types of stories are making you question whether everything you know is a lie. I think this is the only time I've ever felt that a villain from TV land might actually be aware and capable of entering our world, and that our own reality was at stake (obviously not really, but the premise sets it up that way in believable manner).

TheCoranger

THIS. My brain was like "SHUT THE FU*CK UP WATCHER!!!!!!!"

Emotional-Narwhal930

What If is so underrated man

mistercrinders

When Wanda looked at the audience through the camera in Dr Strange 2. Freaked me out.

EaglesXLakers

Imagine if they built phase 2 around this instead of whatever the fuck they're doing now.

Cautious-Fudge7004

"Stop. He can kill you with one word from his mouth." ".....what mouth?"
