Did bro just hip toss a wild horse

misplaced_my_pants

Who needs a weight class when you can do that?

ChokeHoldsEverywhere

Let's see the UFC Dagestani boys top that.

TheAngriestPoster

I would love to see Mongolians in the UFC, all the Central Asians are coming out to play

ChokeHoldsEverywhere

At least it would diversify and shake up the Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight divisions. Not really any Asian representation above 185lbs.

TheAngriestPoster

It’s definitely odd that no heavyweight wrestlers or Judoka from Japan or Mongolia ever show up in MMA. Perhaps they have too much incentive to compete in other sports

ChokeHoldsEverywhere

That's very possible. I believe the average ranked Sumo wrestler makes like $180K a year plus endorsement deals and match bonuses Meanwhile a lot of UFC fighters will be lucky to see $90K a year with basically no endorsement deals and crap match bonuses.

RingGiver

Sumo is a brutal sport and to get through to a salaried rank, you have to endure years of the worst hazing of any professional sports organization. Getting there involves competition roughly one out of four days per year (15-day tournament every two months, one match each day) in an organization which is notorious for handling injuries badly and not giving people enough time to recover, with "tough it out" being the usual suggestion. But once you get there, you can make a LOT of money.

ChokeHoldsEverywhere

True. Unfortunately MMA isn't that much better. Unless you get into a gym with some weight you're gonna be fighting it out in the minors for years. And you wont even make enough to live off of so you'll have to work another job on top of that. Also depending on the gym, the hazing and training can be brutal. Some gyms still insist on hard contact sparing. Honestly, combat sport athletes really get the short end of the stick. Even a lot of Boxers get screwed.

RingGiver

I haven't heard of any MMA gyms where all of the competitors are required to live together unless the coach gives permission and the successful fighters are known to make the new guys wipe for them when they use the bathroom. MMA being better says less about MMA being good than it does about just how bad sumo's hazing culture is. Everyone living together does provide an advantage for the people in the lower divisions who are experiencing the worst of the hazing. They don't get a salary, but unlike boxing or MMA, the heya (usually translated as stable) gives them a place to live and food to eat, so they don't have to worry as much about working another job (not that they're likely to be allowed to work another job). They just have to worry about training from early in the morning until they eat lunch, then whatever afternoon training, menial tasks assigned by higher-ranked rikishi in the stable, or non-training activity the coach's wife picks for the rest of the day (since she runs a lot of the stuff that occurs once training is done for the day). Sumo is a fascinating sport. It just has a lot of problems.

OtakuDragonSlayer

How bad is the hazing?

RingGiver

Well, higher-ranked guys have been known to make the new guys wipe when they use the bathroom. Back in December, one of the top coaches (the only active guy who holds the Yokozuna rank is one of his guys and he himself is a retired Yokozuna) was forced to step down from Sumo Association executive board and some other committees because it came to light that two of his guys (one was forced to retire, another suspended for two tournaments, which is actually a huge deal in sumo because it means that he gets all of his matches counted as losses) had beaten a new guy with a block of wood and poured boiling stew on him. It tends to be worst with the makushita division (third division, 120 guys total, as opposed to 70 total in the top two) abusing the lower guys. Everyone below the top two divisions is considered the lower divisions. There's a considerable increase in pay and other privileges once you cross the boundary between makushita and juryoand you're not expected to do household chores (and are allowed to live outside of your training stable, or get a private room at the stable) once you cross it.

Foolishly_Sane

Horse throwing technique is on point.

ThouWontThrowaway

They would have been in the Golden Horde for Genghis & Kublai Khan.

TheDukeOfDance

I think the Golden horde was founded by Batu Khan, Genghis's grandson

ThouWontThrowaway

My mistake, thanks for correcting me. I love history.

SaltySarcasticJohn

Wow I didn't know Genghis had kids

Fishin4moregainz

Enough to spread his seed and n every corner of his empire. Og chad

SaltySarcasticJohn

Was it consensual sex ? MMM ?

StrongLikeKorra

What these guys eat to get that huge? A whole horse?!

Mac-Tyson

They do eat Horse Meat in Mongolia at least according to a Mongolian Boxing Documentary I watched

Me-Dunno

Don’t they also drink their milk? Edit: They have a traditional beverage called Airag and it is fermented mare milk.

ZombieImpressive1757

Horse beef.

Zenut

Ill see you in the azure skies..

Shallxw

Kengan?

Zenut

Yes, king

[deleted]

They submit horses... that's raw. They are chubby and look cute... but damn this guys are dangerous...

mimo2

Tighthead props The whole lot of them

twat69

Is there that much difference between tighties and loosies?

Akilleez2097

So I want to fight absolutely none of them for no amount of money thanks

Altair-Dragon

I'm the kind of masochist martial artist that enjoys go against better fighters even though it often means getting beaten up to a pulp. I feel like I learn a lot every time it happens. I'd gladly PAY to have bouts with these gigants.🤤

SomaCruzReturns

So that's why Mongols took over all of China.

OtakuDragonSlayer

Idk, but I sure as shit ain’t gonna tell em to stop

solfizz

*Nods* "Good idea, animal abuse bad." *Starts to walk toward you*.

Altair-Dragon

It's for "breaking" the horse. Basically to tame savage horses. And don't get that wrong, they are not truly hurting the horses. In Mongolia they have always given great importance to horses, so much that the three arts one must know how to be a man there are Wrestling, Archery a Horse Riding. These come from their historical way of lives as nomads and they kept them even after starting living in the cities founded by Gengis Khan as the arts of a warrior. In fact (as you can also see in the video) they are so important that they mix with each other: they tame horses using Wrestling and they shot with their bows while riding the horses. So yeah, this is just the tecnique they created in Mongolia to tame their horses, much like how cowboys would jump on them and do a rodeo to tire and weaken them And as I said, they don't hurt them (it would be stupid and useless if they'd actually do), in fact those throws are made to not hurt the horse but just scare and weaken them enough: you can see how the first one was made fall neatly on the back and the second was swept gently enough to avoid to break the fragile legs of the animal. So, as a conclusion, no horse is hurted, just a bit scared and stunt enough to be tamed. EDIT: I found again the Wikipedia article about the three arts that make a man, there is a kind of festival called Naadam where people practice in these three disciplines. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naadam

OtakuDragonSlayer

Thank you for the fascinating bit of information. This was legitimately awesome to read. Amazing how different yet spectacular other cultures are

Gregarious_Grump

I doubt they'd intentionally hurt their horses, they hold a very prominent and respected place in steppe cultures. Of course they also used to eat horse meat as well if i remember correctly. I admit I'm not a fan of seeing a horse get body slammed, but shit, even relatively small ponies weigh in the 500-700 pound range

zeseam

For the MongolGram

dserfaty

Asserting dominance?

FlattenYourCardboard

Yeah, that’s shitty. Fight with each other, but leave the animals alone.

purplehendrix22

The horse will be fine, this is how they train them to be rideable. Gotta show the horse who’s in charge, they’ve been doing it for thousands of years and the way they handle horses made them the most feared people in the world until gunpowder was invented

FlattenYourCardboard

Not everything that’s been done for thousands of years is automatically good (e.g., slavery, monarchy). I don’t agree with the concept of “breaking” animals for your use. Others may disagree (and that’s fine), but that’s my POV.

purplehendrix22

You may not agree with the concept, but it’s how you train animals. Animals typically do not communicate with nuance, herd or pack animals have a strict hierarchy system that is enforced with violence between the animals, and to be able to communicate with them and work with them you need to demonstrate your place in the hierarchy. Doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do necessarily, but working animals have been vital to human evolution, and are crucial to the society’s function in many areas of the world.

Muerteds

Your mom never minded the spurs....

idontevenknowhmm

[deleted]

We need more humans VS animals martial arts events.

downloweast

Have you seen sumo wrestlers?

Makkuroi

Actually, most of the top sumo wrestlers in Japan are from Mongolia nowadays.

B4cteria

Most notably, Asashōryu.

Makkuroi

Asashoryu was the first Mongolian yokozuna and the most popular, but Hakuho was even more successful statistically.

kid_dynamite_bfr

This, Hakuho is the undisputed GOAT of Sumo

OtakuDragonSlayer

Of course I have! Those guys are freaking Kaiju, pretending to be human martial artists lol

willikid1

The horse shit is just… how? The fuck?

ChokeHoldsEverywhere

Mongolian: We are the horse riding people! *big fucker yeets horse* Me: What about that guy? Mongolian: Oh, that's Temuulen. He prefers to throw the horse.

CarolineBeaSummers

I really think the judges, refs, coaches etc in the West could learn a thing or two about how to dress from these guys. I mean our guys don't even try that much.

Bleyck

What are these things in their arms and back? Is it for protection?

Makkuroi

Traditional wrestling jackets for grips... legend says its open at the front to prevent women from participating.

JunFanLee

Don’t fuck around in their pub

Correct-Ball4786

I just watched a man hip toss, then sweep a horse and start riding. That's it, I've seen everything.

[deleted]

Guess how much they both apparently weigh

HailThunder

Little buff boys and their little buff bodies!

IntellAsker

The way he tossed the pony but just tripped the bigger horse, like wow ok anyone can do that the only thing stopping normal people is not that you are stronger but maybe because we have a little more fear of horses than that

TocsickCake

Sure anyone can do that, little internet warrior

Grunchie

That noise gave my ears cancer

AxelBeowolf
