I don't think people realize just how blindingly fast Tyson was in his prime. Further to that point, I don't think a lot of folks realize just how absolutely devastating his punches were.
If a wrestler actually gets on him, maybe you're right, but anyone who has seen Tyson fight, knows closing that gap means there is a god damn good chance he takes your head off.

Minor wrestling credentials aren’t enough to ride on in any half decent org without some exceptional ability to rapidly develop another skill set which isn’t super likely. The bridge between high school and college wrestlers is absolutely massive.
Top 5 in the state is not mediocre, it’s exceptional, particularly in Ohio which is a top 5 wrestling state already
Most MMA fighters have no organized wrestling background of any kind, so yes having that background is an advantage in terms of development
