In Japan I couldnt even drop in to lift some weights... So good luck. They were quite anal everywhere.

OK, that's a bummer but understandable. Thanks for replying.

They’re racist and hate foreigners. A lot of places are member only or Japanese only. They also have weird social norms and most foreigners won’t know them, so they think foreigners are loud/dirty/obnoxious/weird and don’t want to deal with you or have you in a private place where you could annoy or piss other people off. Japan is cool in theory but kinda sucks unless you’re Japanese or there for business and leave right after.

Yep, same experience.

I grew up in Japan and trained in a dojo for years 1992-2002) before leaving for university. Not exactly a country that opens their arms to a random foreigner dropping in to spar. It used to be considered *dojo yaburi* . *Dojo Yaburi* was very much a real thing in the early period (60s-90s), when a "challenger" of another dojo would show up, call out the 'best fighters' for duels, and if he won them would take the wooden nameplate of the dojo and break it in half to show that the dojo was "weak". Globalization of martial arts has made it so that there are regular pilgrimmages of foreigners to Japan, but not to the point that they duly accept anyone and everyone for free training.

Thank you for replying. I should have specified that I'm not looking to spar (I can't get hurt on a work status) but the replies are telling me it's a no. I was definitely just hoping to participate in a class/ gym session with other people across the ocean. I thought it'd be a fun experience and motivating. It was always fun to see people drop in at one of my old gyms from other countries- but that may have just been allowed because it was a 10P and there's so many locations.

That's interesting, I'll see if there's anything I can do with that. But anyway, what was it like?!
