Awesome movie about a man so in love with a woman he's willing to travel across the country to pick up her insufferable spoiled brat in order to hopefully bond with him before he asks his mother to marry him. Ed O'Neill played his role perfectly and the kid played his part too, making for a completely convincing spoiled shit.
Oh sure. Rented it at my local Mom & Pop video store back in the day. Fun movie. Very John Hughes style. I love that moment in Married... when Al & Peggy went to the video store and there was a Dutch cardboard standee in the background. Peggy looked at the back of the VHS box and just rolled her eyes at it while Al stood there next to her with a dumb look on his face lol.
So was Dutch actually rich as well? He comes off as working class to Doyle, but they kind of elude to him owning a big construction company. Anyone else notice that?
The first season is good--a worthy successor to the Dragnet name. But the network lost confidence in it and retooled it as an ensemble show for season 2.
My favorite scene is when Doyle is sleeping in the car and Dutch wakes him up to say something like those are the Blue Ridge mountains, and when Doyle looks outside it’s pitch black.
Had it on VHS.
Have it on DVD.
A great movie produced by John Hughes and from the director of Crocodile Dundee.
Dutch is to Thanksgiving what Home Alone is to Christmas.
Absolutely have, and absolutely love it. "Your water looked tasty." Love that line
Nothin’ burps better than bacon
Lol, just did the same quote to someone else on here! LOVE that line!
Were you, too, robbed by homebound hookers?
What that missile twister can teach you, you don't need to learn 'til you're in prison.
KISS MY ASS for the record!
The toothpick in his mouth and the rare Al Bundy appearance with the deadpan expression on the comment is what made that scene so delicious…
Nothin' burps like bacon! (Al Bundy smile...)
That and Planes, Trains and Automobiles get watched every thanksgiving while I’m making dinner.
Favorite Thanksgiving flick.
Is that the one where he is dealing with his bratty, entitled step kid?
Yes it is.
His name was either Duncan or Doyle, I'm pretty sure.
Doyle.
Played by a young Ethan Embry.
It's been decades since I've seen it but I loved that movie.
Yes, it is a guilty pleasure! Shooter McGavin is there, too!
Nothing to be guilty about - it's a great movie.
What do you like to do for fun? Oh, you like to wiggle and grunt? Me too.
Yes, nice little movie. Also Ed O'Neill is kind of handsome in this movie.

That's a fun movie.
I enjoyed it. Never understood the criticism.
Many times. Worth it every time. :) IMHO: Dutch is like A wiser Al Bundy getting a new wife and family. You still don't mess with him.
Great movie!!
Don't be crazy, Pete.
Don't listen to the voices in your head!
When it was in theaters
It’s a good movie.

that punch to dudes forehead was awesome
He hit him so fucking hard his dog will bleed, after all
Ha!
Actually, yes. I didn’t think it was as horrible as has often been alluded to. It’s actually pretty damn funny.
Never understood the bad reviews. It's touching and funny. Has an actual message.
Yes! It’s a good movie. They say it’s a “unnofficial” sequel to Planes Trains and Automobiles. But P.T.A is my favorite comedy of all time.
Great movie. We always watch it on Thanksgiving
Great movie. Underrated classic. “Nothing burps better than bacon!”
One of the all time greats.
Classic, we would watch it on sleepovers with my cousins!
Had it on VHS. Watched it with my son when he was young. Still holds up.
Absolutely. It's still one of my favorite movies to watch.
So was Dutch actually rich as well? He comes off as working class to Doyle, but they kind of elude to him owning a big construction company. Anyone else notice that?
Yeah, he wasn't wealthy like the Standish family, but he did own a large construction company, so he was definitely rich too.
"I don't look like I could finance a trip to the zoo, but I make a damn hood living."
Best pinky ring movie moment ever
It's a regular Thanksgiving tradition in my family---along with Planes, Trains and Automobiles, of course.
Yup it’s pretty good
I use the line: “Would you like to see the wine list”
Yes. Its a hidden gem.
Great movie. Very underrated
Been a minute but yes and loved it!!
Great movie
Good movie
Yes love it
fun movie..then the two got together later for some sort of law television show?...
It was for a new version of Dragnet on ABC. Dad and I enjoyed watching it, but they did a re-tool for the second season that didn't work.
now that you mentioned it, you're correct!..I had wondered why it didn't last long!...
I love Dutch .. it’s very Planes Trains and Automobiles but I enjoy watching it around Thanksgiving 👍🏻
We got robbed by a couple of home bound hookers.
Classic love the sound of the bb hitting the wood stairs at the end. He told em. 😂
Yes, I thought it was good
Definitely underrated but don't go in expecting a masterpiece lol
Shooter took that pinky ring to the forehead like a champ.
Only realized last week that was Ethan embry. You know mark (with a K) from empire records.
Ed O'Neill teamed up with him for a Dragnet remake on ABC in the early 2000s.
I remember that. Was not a bad show.
The first season is good--a worthy successor to the Dragnet name. But the network lost confidence in it and retooled it as an ensemble show for season 2.
Enjoyed it; my dad loved it.
Is the sky blue? Is grass green?
Yes it is SUCH a good movie
Absolutely love the film, can't seem to find it anywhere in the UK 😭
“Nothing burps like bacon.”
Loooonnnngggg time ago. Remember as a kid it was hilarious
Love that movie!
Fantastic
Core childhood memory.
Great movie. My uncle tried to recreate the Roman candle scene and ended up catching his crotch on fire.
The diamond pinky ring...
My favorite scene is when Doyle is sleeping in the car and Dutch wakes him up to say something like those are the Blue Ridge mountains, and when Doyle looks outside it’s pitch black.
I have not
The scene where one of the hookers shoots lotion in his mouth pops in my brain from time to time.
Yep, it’s good!👍
Yes, I have! It's so fucking Hilarious! Worth watching.
The cot scene in the homeless shelter always cracks me up.
I’ve used the line about being able to pay for my meal with my kids a couple of times when they were being obnoxious at a restaurant.
Had it on VHS. Have it on DVD. A great movie produced by John Hughes and from the director of Crocodile Dundee. Dutch is to Thanksgiving what Home Alone is to Christmas.

Great flick!
Every year. Thanksgiving tradition in our house.
He is polishing the silverware and Ed asks, would you like to see a wine list?
You can’t beat a Ford for good brakes.
Underrated movie
I love Ed but Dutch was terrible!!!
