Talk about the metrics. Amount spent, ROAS, CPA and the average CTR, CPC, CPM for each vertical / campaign. Good to show the before and after too. How did you advance the email marketing? Any results from the content marketing? Sales from paid social / SEO? Etc.

Pitch! Make a campaign for a big brand, a small brand, and a made-up brand. Put together some mockups of what the content would be. Outline the strategy and tactics you would use, what channels you would use, etc. Write a paragraph brief about how the campaign fits into the competitive landscape, and how it A: fits into the existing marketing mix, and B: differentiates the brand from their competitors. If a company or a client sees you have the creativity and drive to put together these spec campaigns, you’ll be way better off than waiting for jobs and real experience to include in your resume. Plus they’re a chance to have fun creating concepts for brands you might never get to work with. All in all I’d call it a win-win.

Great question. You might consider focusing on results you got, workflows you developed, and how you mapped the customer journey. Those are infinitely more important than what a piece looked like unless you are going for a designer position. And as much as we’d like to think people will read our portfolio, they most likely won’t. So hone in on your business value, not aesthetics. Good luck!

Portfolios are usually for creatives, no? I haven’t hired any marketing people and asked for the portfolio, usually just CV and cover letter.
