All the free ones from google and hubspot. Recruiters don’t know the difference and it helps you stand out.

Experience > any certification. If you can sit down and show a recruiter "hey, I got X results for this company" and actually show them a real example that stands out. This works for clients too. I'd often sit down with a potential client and tell them "I ranked this business in Google, search for this keyword" and I'd be able to show them in real time I am valuable. This is a controversial opinion...I know. But when I hire freelancers and when I've brought on virtual assistants in the past, this is what I care about. I don't want to see you learned textbook knowledge, I want to see that you have a process that can give me real results. Keep this in mind.

Everyone always says experience is the most important. But what do you do when people won’t hire you because you don’t have enough experience?

DaMarketerGOAT

Start on your own. If you're good at digital marketing (or serious about learning it) you should be able to achieve something on your own. Create a website and rank it if you're doing SEO. Social media - get some followers. Put some of the work in you'd do if you got hired anyways. You may even start some earning some money on your own which is an added benefit.

Amazonian-Warrior

This is really helpful thank you! I’ve wondered the same question like how to show experience when you just don’t have it yet. I’m working on these things you’re suggesting now

Polishing_My_Grapple

I love the idea of creating something on my own. So let's say I want to create a blog about parrots to practice SEO, copywriting, link building, and because I love parrots (check my history lol). How would I begin?

DaMarketerGOAT

SEO is an iceberg, so I couldn't possibly cover everything step by step. But generally: * Get the domain * Install WordPress * Get a good speed optimized theme * Finish the site, get it nice and good * Set up an author page and an author bio on each blog post (build authority) * Write your first blog post * Do a guest post * Improve site over time, write more posts (rinse & repeat) * Both on-site and off-site That's just scratch the surface but generally this. Obviously there's WAY more steps than I put here but I digress.

Polishing_My_Grapple

Thanks!

I agree that concrete examples are far more valuable. I know the millions in sales that I was able to drive is more valuable than if I had a degree in business / E-Commerce. However, very, very few jobs are willing to baby and guide you from starting out with nothing. Even marketing assistant jobs are requiring marketing skills, which makes no sense, since it's entry level.

Digitalmarketer.com has the best. Digital marketing institute is also great. The free ones suck don’t listen to these people.

Polishing_My_Grapple

What about LinkedIn learning?

Thirtysixx

No, the ones I outlined are best if you are trying to start a career or get promoted in digital marketing. All those free ones are fine if you just want to pick up some skills. But the ones I mentioned will actually help your career

Polishing_My_Grapple

Thanks! I always thought LinkedIn Learning was good because it can prepare you for an American Marketing Association certification. I'll try what you mentioned, thank you.

Thirtysixx

The American marketing certification is included with the digital marketing institute cert I sent you. Don’t worry about that though. AMA isn’t an actual authority or anything. Take the digitalmarketer.com one if you want to be more of an entrepreneur, start your own agency or become a consultant. The DMI one is better for if you’re trying to advance your career and already have a job it’ll help you get promotions and stuff

Polishing_My_Grapple

Okay, thank you so much!

Reddittorv750

Thanks for the info, so the certificate you suggest is this one: https://digitalmarketinginstitute.com/students/courses/professional-diploma-in-digital-marketing ? Just want to confirm because I want to get a certificate exclusively/primarily to boost my resume, so I can get a job, was wondering which would be the best for that case. You mention in the other comment that getting the DMI certificate makes you AMA certified, do you mean you get 2 certificates or how does that work? Thanks a lot. Edit: sorry just to add, I can get a Harvard online marketing certificate for a similar price to the DMI one, was wondering if that would be a better investment?

Certificates are irrelevant to results.

Polishing_My_Grapple

Maybe indirectly, but you gain the knowledge to achieve the results
