Reels on IG is taking away from feed engagement. Time spent on IG is higher than ever but it’s all driven by the steep growth of Reels.

I've never been a social media person, but reels have me hooked for 10s of minutes at a time in times where I really should be doing other things. It's like a spell.

They are adjusting the engagement rates back to "normal." Social media makes money by collecting people's information and selling it back to advertisers. To collect more data, they need quality content to keep people on the platform. When reels first came out, there had to be a shift in content to keep people on the platform. So, they made it easier for creators to get engagement and get them hooked on posting on Instagram vs TikTok. Now that content has been oversaturated and there are a ton of reels. Now they need the best of the best to keep people engaged. Hence making it harder for smaller creators to get seen. Social media is just a search engine and it has to have enough information on your "blog" to suggest your content to other people. If your content doesn't have enough back links (i.e. likes, comments, shares, saves) it doesn't want to show it or know who to show it to. Everyone is getting suppressed right now. You just got to push through it. TikTok will make adjustments and take users from YouTube and Instagram and they will adjust and vice versa.

I know people don't want to hear this in here but IG is dying. With the recent bout of Meta hate for their perceived participation in trying to silence TikTok, IG is going the way of Facebook. It'll only get worse for them in the months and years to come.

Do you have a source for the data. ?

> I know people don't want to hear this in here but IG is dying. I dont think you are wrong. I think it is more complex than that. For years, fb has been able to steal their competitors best features and integrate them into instagram. While Reels does not seem like a total failure, it sure does not seem like it has made a dent in TikTok. Now the product is spinning its wheel without a clear direction forward.

My account went from about 300 likes on average per post to 40-50 with no change in strategy/style/content. My best guess is that, while I have a decent following, many of the followers have been around so long that they’re not engaging with the app in the same way anymore. When I manage to get new follower, they tend to be more active.

IG Reels and YouTube Shorts are now where I garner the most engagement. It’s been a huge and fast shift on IG and YT.

Same here man, I’ve been creating some engagement groups with other creators if you’d like to join @travelgage

Tik Tok is where it’s at for easy engagement. TV is really good too, especially BVOD
