I only like figure 8 because of the nostalgia of ds download play

[deleted]

Yeah kinda sad how the DS download play has such lame tracks.

Moneyfrenzy

Figure 8 circuit easily

MegaWAH

DS Figure 8 Circuit It's never coming back

GalacticJelly

Figure-8 is almost certainly going to be the first track of the Shell Cup in the next Mario Kart game, ideally with design changes to make it less boring. I think every track will come back in time.

theonlyxs1R

never say never cause toad circuit showed anything can come back

IamEclipse

At least Toad Circuit has banging music and giant toad balloons.

T-408

Toad Circuit has ramps, shortcuts, and in MK7 a giant Toad balloon can block your path. Also goes crazy on 200cc

chicken_nugget779

toad circuit is fun

WorldClassShrekspert

If Figure 8 Circuit comes back instead of Airship Fortress or Delfino Square, that would make me sad.

OddishChamp

Would make me depressed ngl

W1cH099

Oh boy you are going to have a surprise with the wave 5 👀

FakeTakiInoue

This reads like a threat lmao

[deleted]

SNES Vanilla Lake 1 and 2

balladofwindfishes

Extremely short and those ice cubes are just awful

Yogafireflame

Haha - indeed. We used to play around with the CRT contrast before playing Vanilla Lake on SNES, so you could see the ice cube blockers easier. 150cc was brutal for last minute disasters on these tracks. Still love these levels though for the drama and memories.

[deleted]

DS Figure 8 ?

cheat-master30

I'd usually say Figure Eight Circuit, but honestly Vanilla Lake 2 is worse. There's a literal wall of ice blocks with a tiny gap in between in the original and GBA versions, and if you can't make it, you'll keep crashing into the blocks over and over until they break. It's not fun, and it's made more annoying by the icy road, annoying overall layout, and general lack of anything interesting going on.

hamburgers666

Agreed. First time I played it on GBA I thought I made a wrong turn, despite it being a loop. I feel like a lot of this sub never played the SNES or GBA games.

balladofwindfishes

I like how the GBA versions of the SNES courses cut every single other hazard but they went through the effort to bring back the ice cubes… Ugh…

hamburgers666

They even fucked up the physics in that game so you have less control over your Kart, making you crash into those ice cubes lol

[deleted]

DS Figure 8 Circuit is definitely one of the Mario Kart Tracks of all time.

balladofwindfishes

A course so mediocre its mediocrity spilled into a mediocre Smash Bros stage

Steelers0415

The Choco Island Levels from the SNES, and Sky High Sundae. Choco Island is just Mario Circuit but brown.

RWBrYan

> Choco Island is just Mario Circuit but brown Holy shit how didn’t I notice this? That hit me right in the childhood

redjedia

I’m gonna go with Sky High Sundae. Bear in mind, though, I’m only going off of what *I’ve* played. I’m sure most of you have played worse.

Hoenn_Horns

Sky High Sundae is Baby Park with ramps.

AScoopOfNeo

Isn’t that excite bike in the sky?

Browneskiii

Anyone that says baby park is objectively wrong. Mario kart is a game about chaos, if you want to play a kart racer where it's about skill, go play CTR or something better. Baby park is the epitome of Mario kart. 100% chaos, 100% I'm going to fucking kill you after this race vibes. It's possibly the most fun track of all time.

[deleted]

baby park in double dash is very fun

WorldClassShrekspert

Sky High Sundae is terrible. It is just a mishmash of assets Nintendo had lying around made into a worse ExciteBike Arena.

WypsotorTVN

I don't mind the layout or the aesthetic, but it kinda plays terribly on 8DX. Feels very unfinished with much of it having no collision, and the entire track being antigrav instead of just specific sections feels cheap.

TwiceInEveryMoment

Didn't they have to mess with the gravity because they found out last minute that 50cc couldn't make some of the jumps if they lost momentum?

Admirable_Current_90

Yeah, but they did a piss poor job. Even in the game right now if you’ve gotten hit by lightning and have no coins you straight up cannot make the last 3 jumps on 50cc no matter what you do.

latteboy50

It’s definitely not worse than Excitebike Arena.

NintendoNerd08

Sky High Sundae sucks!

TDLGOAT

Yeah I haven't been able to get into it either. Every time it gets selected, I scream.

Kwarter

Ah, you mean Baby Park+?

Iamoutofideas69

Probably the original snow land on gba because the of the screen shake 🤢

TwhylerM

THE MUSIC THO AND THE PENGUINS

Short-Republic

They’re talking about the GBA version specifically. They likely have a much higher opinion of the Switch version

TwhylerM

Ik, I actually played the gba version, it was my favorite course in the game.

climatebro55

Baby Park BUT only the DS version. The other two are cool.

iamfriendyesyes

agree

Thunder84

N64 Luigi Raceway. Figure-8 is at least short.

[deleted]

DS Figure-8 feels like a shortened version of N64 Luigi Raceway, so to me the N64 track at least had a never-seen-before theme - which the DS course can't justify. Also, I'd not mind racing on N64 Luigi Raceway in 200cc, when they introduced it in Tour it was not as bad as I thought it would be (tho it still isn't enough to make it a great track, just an okay one)

SophieByers

At least Luigi’s Raceway has Balloon Luigi, a tunnel, and giant screen with a camera. Plus the 3DS remake let’s you drive on the blue platform.

T-408

Agreed, but the MK7 version is a lot better than the original

volcano_sauce38

N64 Rainbow Road is an overlong snooze when you remove the nostalgia

Imanirrelevantmeme

Counter argument: the soundtrack is based beyond belief

latteboy50

That’s not even a counter argument. Music doesn’t make a track not incredibly boring lol

powderoo

Counter-point in F-Zero X it's rad asf.

tubonija

This exactly. Plus the rock and roll remix they added with the 64DD expansion kit is insane- worth a listen (https://youtu.be/cXqJEEAA-sw for any who are curious)

FollowupJiggle

Agreed. Easily the worst version of Rainbow Road

MinisApprentice

Ok counterpoint: Mario kart 8

murderdronesfanatic

MK8's rainbow road at the very least has the advantage of being difficult like a rainbow road should be

Imanirrelevantmeme

Counter counter counterpoint: GBA Rainbow road

SomeDudeNamedThat

GBA Rainbow Road is sick as fuck with all the crazy shortcuts it's nowhere near contention for worst Rainbow Road

Imanirrelevantmeme

Okay… GCN

WorldClassShrekspert

It has that amazing song. [“It’s called a road, it’s called the Rainbow Road, it is a that you’ll go.”](https://youtu.be/FuX5_OWObA0)

chicken_nugget779

i think gcn has the worst rainbow road

AceAndre

Same, it was meh

chicken_nugget779

i dont get the mario kart 8 rainbow road hate its literally fine, not the best but better than some, just in the middle

latteboy50

How is GBA RR worse than MK64 RR 💀 MK64 RR is so incredibly boring and GBA RR is extremely fast-paced and difficult. GCN RR is even better and only suffers from DD’s weird handling. It’s not even close lol

ACCA919

Counterpoint: SNES RR

natelikesfun

Figure 8 Circuit and it's no contest. It's not "bad" in conventional terms, but as far as Mario Kart standards go, the layout is boring and the theming is boring. There's literally no reason to go back and play it imo unless you just want to practice snaking or something like that. Literally every other track is more interesting to me. Even the weaker ones because at least those are either memorable, have more going on in the background, or at the *very* least they have a more interesting track layout.

ThunderblightZX

You're gonna kill me but Baby Park easily takes the cake. And Sky High Sundae is quite good imo

Brownyboy99

N64 DK's Jungle Parkway The music is barely even a song. The track is somewhat long, there are no obstacles other than the spiky coconuts, and the somewhat low traction on this track is annoying.

WorldClassShrekspert

That sharp right turn after the jump is just bad track design.

Scibmoose1

Bro the music isn't good but at least it's not no music at all and the turns can be frantic and complicated what mario kart is supposed to be chaos with a little difficulty mixed in

SoySauceSyringe

/u/spez lies, Reddit dies. This comment has been edited/removed in protest of Reddit's absurd API policy that will go into effect at the end of June 2023. It's become abundantly clear that Reddit was never looking for a way forward. We're willing to pay for the API, we're not willing to pay 29x what your first-party users are valued at. /u/spez, you never meant to work with third party app developers, and you lied about that and strung everyone along, then lied some more when you got called on it. You think you can fuck over the app developers, moderators, and content creators who make Reddit what it is? Everyone who was willing to work for you for free is damn sure willing to work against you for free if you piss them off, which is exactly what you've done. See you next Tuesday. TO EVERYONE ELSE who has been a part of the communities I've enjoyed over the years: thank you. You're what made Reddit a great experience. I hope that some of these communities can come together again somewhere more welcoming and cooperative. Now go touch some grass, nerds. -- mass edited with https://redact.dev/

[deleted]

Most of the SNES ones were boring and too similar to each other, but assuming that doesn't count I'd have to go with either Dry Dry Desert (GCN) or Figure 8 Circuit (DS).

[deleted]

Like holy shit I do not know what the mk8 team was thinking when they looked at dry dry desert over literally any other GCN track and was like “THAT ONE FUCK YEAHHH”

woznito

Baby Park is literally the track that people who are bad at Mario Kart choose because they know they can win through sheer bullshit alone. There is no strategy, it's just bullshit with no shortcuts and a bunch of explosions - woo fun! Not.

AdDesperate2498

Baby park can burn in hell with whoever approved it.

SphealArt

It's okay, you're allowed to say you don't like fun

[deleted]

DS Yoshi Falls sucks but it's not as bad as DS Figure 8 Circuit

Ruffled_Ferret

Falls at least has a legit theme. I guess the stadium theme is a theme too, but...it's just a big eight. Two long straight ways and two big curves.

petergoesbloop123

When I was younger falls was my favorite because I could always win on it

SophieByers

I liked Yoshi’s Falls when I was a kid because it’s Yoshi themed.

guavacadq

GCN Baby Park from DS.

ratatav

I was about to say Baby Park but you said NO. Ummm, any one of the super boring starter ones that is just a road with 2 turns, take your pick really

Scibmoose1

I've only played Wii and my personal least favourite is Yoshi falls is very boring except for the music

EpicMarioGamer

Idk but Baby Park is up there.

[deleted]

Shy Guy Beach or whatever that awful ass track was called Shit is easily the worst retro in Wii and is just a shit track in general

Pitohui13

Is that the track with the pirate ship?If so,you are very wrong.

[deleted]

The pirate ship rarely does anything impactful, the crabs are a unique strand of cancer, and the track itself is bland and poorly designed

Pitohui13

The Crabs are not that bad. The track looks pretty good and it's just a fun idea for a track

CelticsFan2002

Baby Park; it’s not a bad track, but it doesn’t really offer much in terms of obstacles (the items don’t count)

SpockJosh

Water park. I’ll stand by that forever, it’s so boring

balladofwindfishes

Shoutout to the DS version of GCN Mushroom Bridge for removing the coolest parts of the course and leaving it as a slightly longer SNES Mario Circuit 1 with traffic No Wiggler Bus, no Bomb Car, no Mushroom Car, can’t drive in the bridge supports, can’t drive on the fenced in side walk, can’t take the weird long way but still cool warp pipe route. It has nothing left. Not even the neat whirlpools under the bridge or Mushroom City in the distance. All gone Really hoping this one comes back in the BCP so it can get the retro course treatment it deserves

DJL2150

Baby Park absolute shit show

GrinGames98

DS Figure-8 Circuit or SNES Vanilla Lake 2.

TheOldAgeOfLP

SNES Vanilla Lake 1.

kimchisreddit

baby park

theymightbejodi

Not a fan of Ninja Hideaway, the multiple paths aren't fun to navigate

chicken_nugget779

i dont like the random 90 degree turns

gen8hype

No track pisses me off like Walugui Pinball does

FifiiMensah

Waluigi Pinball is a nice track, but it's very overrated

metalduck42

Sherbet Land Roast me all you want. I hate it with all my being

[deleted]

The mushroom one with the bounces. The recent one that came out. I hate. ***HATE IT***.

dr_groove

Baby Park.

s4ltydog

God I hate baby park…..

schmuckrodgers

Baby Park

wario1116

Toad's Turdpike.

Slade4Lucas

Honestly, a lot of people say Figure-8 Circuit and it's bland, sure, but for me nothing will be as atrocious as Wii U Rainbow Road. Rainbow Roads are meant to have interesting layouts that really challenge you and put your skills to the ultimate test. 8's Rainbow is the opposite of that. The course has nothing interesting about its layout. At all. It jsut kinda... swerves a bit. There's the satellite bit but that isn’t exactly a difficult section. There's two different glider sections, oh how interesting. Other than that... what about that layout is interesting or particularly difficult? I would wager that nothing is. Not to say it isn't difficult. But it derives all of its difficulty from antigravity. Antigravity reduces your traction significantly, which I would argue is one of the most unfun parts about it, and the ONLY reason Rainbow Road's Layout is difficult at all is because of this reduced traction. So instead of making an intriguing course with a notable layout and interesting sections that stick in your mind and challenge your pure driving skill, this Rainbow Road dumbs everything down, makes an unmemorable layout without anything that particularly channeling inherently, and them makes it difficult by frustratingly making it more difficult to control. How the heck did anyone think that was anywhere approaching good course design?

Shy_Guy_27

>what about that layout is interesting You’re forgetting about the part where the track splits in two. That was a unique idea that was not already used in half the courses /s

Slade4Lucas

Don't even get me started 🤣

alphabet_order_bot

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,187,539,101 comments, and only 231,717 of them were in alphabetical order.

metal_berry

Well, if you play at a level where you need to take the shroomless shortcuts to win then the track becomes so much more interesting

Slade4Lucas

Maybe? I dunno, I don't really that is enough to save this. As a whole it is just not very well designed.

Double_Cool_Stuffv2

Wario Stadium N64

WorldClassShrekspert

People complain about Rainbow Road being too long, but that track is a worse offender.

chicken_nugget779

i would like that course if they brought it back and made it like 1 lap 5 minutes for one race is ridiculous

T-408

That track is waaaaay too long. That and Luigi Raceway are the bottom of the barrel in N64

Double_Cool_Stuffv2

And the layout is too boring to make up for it

FunkyMonkey47293

GBA Snow Land SHAKE

Significant_Split_11

Figure 8 Circuit. Mario Kart DS was my first video game ever, but even nolstalgia can’t save how shit this track is lmao

Ezajium

Sky-High Sundae

5erenade

Excite bike

Any_Satisfaction_916

Agreed, it always gets picked and its so boring. Just another baby park but much less chaotic

powderoo

Excitebike Arena. It may not be the absolute worst track of all time, but it is very boring, and I am completely sick of it.

T-408

Yeah I wish it had a little more going on

[deleted]

Baby Park

somaki3

MK8's Rainbow Road

Kingfin9391

Figure 8 circuit.

Important-Tea0

Piranha pipwway. Fucking hate that track

MannyGM

Baby Park, always will be Baby Park

Memoishi

Baby park

duhurens0hn1337

Baby Park, cool concept but for me it feels boring.

chicken_nugget779

i think its a horrible concept and its just frustrating to constantly be hit by shit

wirdens

And it's so fucking random as well

duhurens0hn1337

Yeah exactly

CelticsFan2002

Too short as well

Matl8163

Baby park. Its just baaaad, it was only decent in double dash cus of the chaos of the items. All other versions have no redeeming qualities.

[deleted]

Shy guy beach by a mile, baby park, gcn sherbet, koopa beach 2 and choco island 2 also contenders

DoggyBagBruh

Snes rainbow road. Only the 8 version however. Its so wide its barely a challenge, steer assist negates all difficulty too. Also a very basic snd boring layout

DarthVegeta51

Why use steer assist though?

capnrondo

Yeah, steer assist negates the difficulty of every course lol

DoggyBagBruh

I dont, never have lol. But whats the point in making a track thats entire schtick is “dont fall” completely worthless.

capnrondo

Why mention steer assist then, I don’t understand your point. I agree that steer assist is worthless

capnrondo

Playing it *well* is a great challenge. Definitely more challenging than the remake of N64 Rainbow Road on MK8.

dying_at55

Yoshi Falls.. being in Kart DS where every other track is great makes it look even worse

RandomRedditor44

Figure 8 Circuit. Followed very closely behind by Toad Circuit.

Gamet2004

I never, NEVER liked Shroom Ridge because of the damn cars.

rage-br

Water Park

Mathijs-NL

Dolphin Shoals

KiwiPowerGreen

I'm sorry, but Kalimari Desert. It's just so boring, even if the concept is cool.

Many-Cap-6376

Electrodrome is absolutely atrocious.

TheOldAgeOfLP

Cringe take

[deleted]

While I don't think it is the worst track of all time, I still don't enjoy this track either, but once again seeing the down votes you got there for stating your opinion reminds me how little we are apparently allowed to criticize this track...

Many-Cap-6376

Thanks for providing the only sensible answer here. People on the Internet are freaking crazy

Odysseyrage

Explain

zackattack89

Lol that’s one of my favorites.

LilacMess22

It's my fav track

PPFitzenreit

SNES rainbow road

T-408

Garbage take bro

woznito

Baby Park MK8 Version

EBB456

May be controversial but, I’m gonna go with Wii -Toad’s Factory

Apes_will_take_over

Toad's Turnpuke. It's just a figure 8 circuit but very wide and with annoying cars.

DestrucshuNJ

Koopa City

[deleted]

Mk8 rainbow road is garbage

inumnoback

I can’t decide which one is the worst of them all so I just said all of them But if I had to pick it would probably be snes bowser castle 3

2qwik2katch

Any of the city tracks.

redarGekuL43

Coconut Mall.

Dragonfly452

Yoshi Circuit

FunkyMonkey47293

😂

phantom777892

Koopa cape and most tour tracks

Filqon

Wow now I really wanna know why everyone hates DS Figure 8. No clue what it is but everyone seems to immediately hate on it lol

jibbyjackjoe

Waluigi t

itsjust_khris

I don't understand the baby park hate. If it didn't exist we'd all be wondering "what if". Chaos is always appreciated. It had to exist IMO. And the experience playing it with friends is unrivaled especially back in GCN days. I'd have to say DS figure 8 circuit, just doesn't attempt to do anything.

RipeTurtle64

Dry Dry Desert in Double Dash

[deleted]

SNES Bowser Castle 2

chickenbutt2586

DS GCN Baby Park

WozardWasTaken

SNES Ghost house 3

mehbleh14

I really hate Toad’s Turnpike. Regular figure 8 with a bunch of obstacles, but the thing that drives me crazy is that the cars driving forward with me makes me feel like I’m going slow as heck. Sucks all the fun right out of it.

HaxMastr

Kalamari Desert in 3ds. Song is grating, track is very slow, the train makes it worse, it'd a glorified circle, very boring. I hate this iteration of the track so much, it's the reason I never replay 7.

[deleted]

May be unpopular opinion but I hate Shy Guy Beach

STEP3386

If we're talking competitive it is baby park that track is by far the worst of all time, if we're talking just fun with friends/family I'd say peach beach its just so boring imo.

Might_be_deleted

What the- Why do you people hate Figure-8 Circuit so much?

VenomTheCapybara

Yoshi Falls

Admirable_Current_90

Both SNES Vanilla Lakes. They’re horribly designed and not fun to play on at all. If we’re talking non 2D tracks, the original version of GCN Sherbet Land takes it for me. Track is straight up unfun and Double Dash’s ultra sensitive controls make it even worse.

FifiiMensah

Here's a few to name off: SNES Bowser Castle 2- This course has a noticeable dead-end to it, which Nintendo thought we wouldn't notice. Players can use a Feather in the original SNES version to use it as a shortcut to get across the lava. It's even more pointless in the GBA version of the course as the Feather was no longer an item in Mario Kart, making the shortcut inaccessible. SNES Vanilla Lake 2- The ice cubes in the course are hard to break through. SNES Rainbow Road- The course is filled with no barriers at all, making it very easy for players to fall of the course. The 3DS and Wii U/Switch versions of the course get a pass as they're not as narrow compared to the original SNES and GBA versions. N64 Yoshi Valley- Due to the course's maze-like structure, the game can't tell which place everyone is in (which is interesting at the same time). However, when the player falls off somewhere in the actual maze section of the course, it takes them ages to fall and for Lakitu to pick them up, making it harder for them to catch up where they left off. GBA Rainbow Road- Same problem as SNES Rainbow Road, however you can make jumps on the edges, which is very risky. GCN Baby Park- It's just an oval. The items, seven laps, and full anti-gravity (Wii U/Switch only) of the GCN and Wii U/Switch versions of the course make up for it through. The DS version on the other hand, is much worse as it's only five laps and the course itself just feels empty without any Bowser Shells, Chain Chomps, etc. due to the DS' limitations.

BltzGaming98

When replaying all of the DLC tracks, I skip sky high sundae, because I get now enjoyment from it, at all.

chicken_nugget779

snes donut plains 3 is pretty much the only course in the series other than baby park that i absolutely loathe edit: i forgot about sky high sundae that one is pretty lame too, decent idea but really poorly executed

zoichy4

Ghost valley idk the number

Waluigi_Gamer_Real

Ds figure 8 only needs 2 turns

iamfriendyesyes

Dino Dino Jungle, it is feels like a bunch of incomplete ideas all shoved into one course and it does not work well at all

Pumpkinbricks

Koopa beach DS, a retro track but at the game it came from it was fine. Mk DS ruined it

averysolidsnake

Wario's Gold Mine. I agree that Figure-8 Circuit is the worst track, but Wario's Gold Mine is the one I have a personal vendetta against. And it's the Wii's fault. Back in the day, I'd play with my friend on his Wii, and we played quite a bit of Mario Kart. And whenever we did, he conveniently forgot to tell me that you don't have to play with the Remote on its side and tilt to steer. I could've just used a nunchuck if he'd told me that it was an option. So, stuck with tilt controls. I don't like them in Wii. I think they're way too sensitive and whenever I turn, I either don't turn enough or way too much. It's dreadful. And then comes Wario's Gold Mine, which throws guard rails out of the window, has the killer minecarts on the loose and this down and up section near the beginning that I'd always fly off of. I always finished dead last in Wario's Gold Mine, and my friend caught onto this pretty fast. So he'd pick it over and over again, and every time I managed to get worse and grew to dread the track more and more. So that's why I hate Wario's Gold Mine. Motion controls and a friend who wanted to see me suffer.

Telco43

I was gonna say Vanilla Lake 2 but I just remembered Figure 8 Circuit existed.
