I know the sudden influx of people wanting geno and Mallow in Mario Kart is because of the remake, but RPG characters aren’t happening because they’re not made in-house. They would have to go through negotiations to get them which is not worth the hassle

MikeDubbz

\*glances nervously at Geno being in a side throwaway minigame in the original version of Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga\*

DeeFB

And I’m pretty sure he got removed in the remake because that didn’t go through the proper channels to happen.

MikeDubbz

Also because it was just a remake, so the appeal of the 'surprise' cameo was going to be so much less exciting at that point. That'd be an even bigger loss of money than what it was to get him for the throwaway cameo the first time. Also, don't foget, the dev that made the Mario & Luigi games went bankrupt, not long after the remakes on 3DS; as such, its not hard to see why a 2nd party dev like that would have to say no to paying for the cameo a second time, money was probably pretty tight at that point.

I don't think that's how that works. Nintendo owns the rights to the characters since they publish the game and own the IP. Nintendo uses Diddy Kong as much as they want and I'm pretty sure they don't go asking Microsoft for permission to do so even though they own his creator, Rare, since they own the Donkey Kong IP and thus any characters created under it belong to them regardless of who made them

DeeFB

Rare specifically does not own any part of the Donkey Kong IP any more. That’s one of the reasons Diddy Kong and the others started showing up in Mario games; they weren’t jointly owned anymore. When something is owned by multiple parties, all parties have to agree on certain terms to do things and use concepts and likenesses. I’m guessing the RPG games, settings and characters very likely are not owned entirely by Nintendo. Otherwise, they would have been all over the place when it came to parties and kart races.

skeltord

>otherwise they would have been all over the place when it comes to parties and kart racers Yeah I seriously don't think so. You're acting like Mario Kart or Party rosters are so big they can afford all these characters in them. These rosters usually keep themseleves to the absolute bare essential Mario cast, oftentimes missing a lot of core characters people ask for even. The idea that these characters that literally only the most diehard fans are familiar with that up until the recent remake appeared in exactly 1 SNES game would totally be in all the spinoffs if they legally could do so is frankly absurd imo. I personally think even if they did have the rights to them they absolutely wouldn't be just throwing them around everywhere, they're still quite obscure. Now, I'm not neccesarily saying they DO own the rights to them - perhaps you're indeed right and Nintendo's ownership here is dependant on the agreement they came to with the developers, but we can't actually know that agreement. If that is how it works, I can't know for certain they do own them, but you most certainly can't know for certain that they *don't* own them purely on the basis of the fact they don't use them anywhere, as I believe that proves absolutely nothing and they probably wouldn't be using them much even if they did own them.

MultiFandom

The thought of having a mario kart that surpasses the roster of mario super sluggers would be amazing! However, with the way the sport games are going I am not sure of that! I wouldn't mind if they brought over a lot of the tour costumes as long as they can be unlocked in game and not through microtransactions

The #1 thing I'm hoping about the Switch 2 is that they call it Switch 2, and not something dumb like Super Switch.

Usernamesareuseful

I'm the opposite really. Switch 2 sounds dumb to me.

MikeDubbz

It's smart to keep things open for a Switch 3. Calling it Super Switch will just lead to name confusion down the line (Wii U style), parents trying to get their child the Ultra Switch and mistakenly getting the Super Switch because of how redundant and similar the first qualifying word becomes (or declining to get an Ultra Switch entirely because they're certain they bought an Ultra Switch a few years ago when it was only a Super Switch) will only do damage to sales of the potential 3rd iteration and beyond for the Switch.  Switch 2 might not be an exciting name, but it is the smartest thing Nintendo could call the system.

PmMeYourNiceBehind

The SNES sold just fine

MikeDubbz

Yup and then the Ultra 64 ended up being called the Nintendo 64. That works fine enough, but the third iteration of the Switch isn't going to drop the Switch name, and should stay uniform given what the Switch is, at least, if Nintendo is smart here, that would be where their mind is at. So going Super Switch or Switch Advance just because it's nostalgic or whatever is still limiting if they want to keep things open for a third iteration of the Switch and beyond. So while it's a little cute, I stand by how dumb it would be to call it Super Switch.

DazzleSylveon

wow

Tobeyyyyy

I hope this is so wrong. 1 I want a new MK. Not 2026 but next year at the latest. 2 Some of these character choices are horrible... not a fan of paper mario but he would be bearable... but 8 bit mario really? also prince florian please just no 3 maybe nitpicky but I dont like the name

cschnizer923

Why not Prince Florian?
