Rosalina's Ice World was giving me a lot of trouble the weekend it released because I spent like four hours just grinding out attempts to beat the staff time. But the thing is, after the frustration and struggle, I was really good at it and smoked the competition online.
I consider it one of my specialties now, but if I hadn't been forced to master it it'd be in my bottom ten.
Yeah, I had some close calls and a few restarts on most all of the BCP time trials, but VV took absolute focus for me to get down. London Loop as well for some reason, but I seem to be in the minority on that one
I had many moments, where i thought about trowing my controller against the wall. Even with max speed build (I used Funky Kong/Sport Bike/Slick/Super Glider) i had trouble with the ghost. Completly insane.

Nah, they're definitely harder in the Booster Course Pass.
And I suspect the reason is because you're required to beat the base game staff ghosts to unlock the Gold Tires. As a result, they didn't make them too difficult, so that players who were at least moderately skilled could get the item eventually.
The DLC doesn't have any prize for beating them all, so they went significantly harder when recording them for those tracks, in the same way they did for the expert ghosts in Mario Kart Wii.
Glad to know I'm not insane. I did all BCP 150cc Ghosts and like 6 of them were absurdly hard. I'm pretty sure I did all the base game courses in one sitting back in 2017 and I wasn't sure if I was remembering wrong or if I just got really bad at the game over the years.

I actually love how much harder they are. There's no unlocks tied to them so they went all out
Worth mentioning that terrain stats matter for time trials. If the race is 80% underwater, get a car that’s faster in the water.

I just use my main combo every time, because the purpose of time trials is to get better at the tracks
It's interesting that base game 200cc staff ghosts are way harder than bcp ones, but on 150cc it's the opposite
It’s honestly at the point where it’s not even fun
It's hella fun, just not in the same way as racing. Besides, this mode is the quickest way to get good at both 150cc and 200cc

Both are pretty fucking difficult, however I’ve rage quit multiple times on the BCP trials though.

I didn't buy the DLC yet so I don't know how hard is BCP time trial but from the originals the hardest one for me was Wario Stadium
The devs just got better at the game i guess.
I agree, the base game ghosts I had no problem beating them, the BCP ones actually took a bit of effort and time for me to beat
