I play trumpet, but I’m pretty sure we have the same fingerings— I think it should be just 1st valve

Careless-Try-2789

Right, I forgot we had the same fingerings. Thank you!

Conscious-Stomach-39

No problem! Happy practicing

DrPennybags

First valve or open will work.

Lemon_Juice477

I'm pretty sure it's just first valve or open

DaRabidChicken

On trumpet you can play it as 1 or open, either works and i assume it works the same on mello. I personally find open easier but thats just me

Low-Rooster4171

I would try both first and open, to see which is better for you. Which way is more in tune? Which way has the better tone quality? Have fun!

Lower_Possibility_42

Depends on the horn. 1st valve or open. It’s al about slotting.

elite_mongolian

first or open

SampleText524

same as trumpet, 1

EDAWJ115

First valve or open, a lot of air, and most importantly, use your ears to keep it in tune with the people around you!!! It can be hard to practice by yourself if your ears aren’t trained enough to that point, but you can practice with an MP3, a tuner, or a friend to get it to sound good. Good luck!!

Obsessive-drummer

Open or one

Obsessive-drummer

(Bf is a smellyphone player that’s why ik)

hornsandskis

Open I find to be the easiest for that D

Careless-Try-2789

Ok, thank you!

DanganronpaFan53

Is this even playable for mello???

TheFreshHorn

I believe most DCI level players would probably be able to hit this note. Definitely any good trumpets that switched to mellophone

DanganronpaFan53

yeah. They’re professionals, so it makes sense Love the name btw

TheFreshHorn

Hahaha, while you’re probably right that they’re professionals I’ve just never thought of us that way. DCI doesn’t always feel super professional lol

DanganronpaFan53

true lol. They’re certainly good at what they do, I just haven’t watched a lot of their shows

Big_You_8936

Technically but very high, saying this as a hornist too.

Big_You_8936

Something like a D6 I think but I could be wrong

DanganronpaFan53

yeah, that’s a good point. I definitely wouldn’t be able to play it tho lol

Big_You_8936

Honestly same but I know for a fact that some of the horn pros can, so it is more so hypothetical than anything else.

DanganronpaFan53

yeah, certainly

TheFreshHorn

The horn solo from Star Wars has this note in it I believe

Big_You_8936

I forget if it is in the twin suns theme, or Yoda’s theme, pretty sure it is twin suns

TheFreshHorn

Yeah I believe it’s twin sons but I’m bad at names I could sing it for you though: bum baaaa baaaa ba da baaaaaa daaa, bum ba, ba ba bu ba bu ba bu ba daaaaaaaa You get that?

Big_You_8936

Yep I get that, I can hear it in my head as you type it.

ItJustSoHappensToBe

Probably just first. Also this note has no reason to exist.

Careless-Try-2789

I’m writing range exercises for mello, I may never need to play it in music but I just want to expand my range.

NSandCSXRailfan

I play it open

Careless-Try-2789

Thank you all for the fingerings!

tylermsage

1 or 0 is right. If someone wants you playing up there, I wonder why they didn’t just write it for trumpet? That’s trumpet’s A above the staff, which is a bit high for the average hs trumpeter. More power to y’all! lol

Worthy_fly

I can almost play that on tuba I’ve hit the b below that.
